00:12His statement came as Tehran looks to ease tensions with Washington

00:15after U.S. President Donald Trump threatened to militarily intervene

00:20following Iran's deadly crackdown on anti-government protests.

00:24The move signals a major shift in Tehran's approach,

00:27who for weeks have leveled their own threats against the U.S.

00:31and warned against escalations.

00:33The White House says it's always open to a deal and would rather a diplomatic outcome,

00:39but is prepared for all possibilities.

00:41President Trump is always wanting to pursue diplomacy first,

00:46but obviously it takes two to tango.

00:48You need a willing partner to achieve diplomacy,

00:51and that's something that Special Envoy Whitcoff is intent on exploring and discussing.

00:56As always, though, of course, the President has a range of options

01:00on the table with respect to Iran.

01:03Exact dates and locations have not yet been agreed upon,

01:07but talks are expected to take place in the coming days

01:10between Iranian officials and U.S. Special Envoy Steve Whitcoff.

01:14The development comes despite two incidents on Tuesday,

01:18which many thought would derail hopes for talks or a peaceful solution.

01:21A U.S. Navy fighter jet shot down an Iranian drone

01:25it said was approaching its aircraft carrier in the region,

01:29while the U.S. accused Tehran of trying to stop a U.S.-flagged ship
