00:00Who are some of the sisters in your life who ensure that you stay on a certain course,
00:06making sure that they hold you accountable, that you're living your best life, that you're
00:09being your best self?
00:10Who are some of those folks to you?
00:30While she's taking this moment, I hear all of y'all saying, that's all of us.
00:49It's this whole room, right?
00:50We're like, we're going to hold you down, queen.
00:52That's beautiful.
00:54But I'm going to let you take a moment.
00:56Sorry.
00:57No, it's okay.
00:58That's good.
00:59Sorry.
01:00God, I'm scared to come here because of that.
01:16The person who has held me to that standard is my mother for my entire life.
01:24The person who showed me what being a woman is all about, who lifted me up, who encouraged
01:36me, and who believed in me.
01:41When we were teenagers, when most people would say, you know, what do you know?
01:48These kids, you don't know anything.
01:50She never treated us like that.
01:52She believed that we did know.
01:54We just needed guidance.
01:55I'm sorry, y'all.
01:57I lost my mother a few months ago, so I'm sorry to those who don't know why I'm sitting here
02:09crying.
02:11Mary, Mary is one of those people for me.
02:16You know, we go through our ups and downs, and we talk about it, and then we hug it out,
02:21or we make each other laugh, and we know we're going to get through it.
02:25The queen, Maxine Waters here, you know, she was someone who tried to figure out what these
02:34young hip-hop kids were doing.
02:36She saw our power.
02:38Maybe she didn't agree with some of the things coming out of our mouths, but she knew what
02:42was coming out of our mouths was powerful, and we just needed a little guidance.
02:47And I think it's important to always recognize that.
