00:00So, Amira, welcome to Essence Festival.
00:07Yes, thank you.
00:08Love having you here.
00:09Love being here.
00:10And we're not far from where you filmed, Underground.
00:13Yes, Baton Rouge.
00:14Baton Rouge.
00:15Oh, yeah.
00:16So, let's talk about season one, which was just amazing.
00:19Did you expect just the fanfare and the support from people?
00:23You know, I was really a fan of the writers.
00:26I am a fan of the writers, Misha Green and Joe Bukowski.
00:29So, I was really excited.
00:31And all one can do is just kind of do the best work they can
00:34and hope that the audience really embraces it.
00:37And they did.
00:38And we have amazing fans who live tweet with us.
00:41And still, even now that, you know, season one is done,
00:43I'm on Instagram and they're like, oh, my God.
00:45And, you know, when are you going to start filming?
00:47And so, it's really become a little family.
00:49It's really wonderful.
00:50So, wait, have you started filming season two?
00:54Okay.
00:55Nice.
00:59Woo!
01:01Steen.
01:02Let's talk about Ernestine.
01:03My God.
01:04She is, what do you think of her?
01:06I have the highest level of respect for her.
01:09Yeah.
01:10You know, she is queen mother, really willing to sacrifice anything.
01:13She's flawed, but she has the best of intentions.
01:16You know, I think she's the best of me.
01:18She's stronger than I ever imagined I can be.
01:21I've been stronger after playing her.
01:23I've learned a lot from her.
01:25And then also, too, the sacrifices she's had to make.
01:28I just feel so blessed that I'm not putting those constraints.
01:31You know?
01:32I mean, our backs are against the wall in different ways.
01:35And, of course, clearly that's so far that we can still go.
01:38But when you're talking about death or the field or losing your identity
01:42and your history or your children, I mean, those things, whoo!
01:46But then again, you know, we're concerned about losing our children now.
01:50Yeah.
01:51But we look forward to seeing way more of you on television, on Broadway, everywhere.
01:56Congratulations on everything.
01:57It's my pleasure to be here.
01:59All right.
