00:33Everyone saw what happened to my son that day,
00:39and how they let him lay there in the street for several hours,
00:44how they treated him like he was not a human being, my firstborn.
00:50I wrote a book to tell my story and his, our 18 years that we had together,
00:57so that people would really know Michael Brown's character,
01:01and how he was loved and had a family that loved him,
01:05and that he did come from a good background.
01:12In the book called Tell the Truth and Shame All the Devils,
01:19you will learn about Michael's charisma,
01:24his love he had for his other siblings, his brother and sisters,
01:29and how he was just this A1 person to all of his friends.
01:35I also started a foundation to keep my son's legacy alive,
01:43and within that foundation we offer support to mothers like myself, Lucy and Sabrina.
01:55We really need everyone to come together to empower us as well,
02:01because this is a hard journey once you're thrust into it,
02:05having to walk every day of your life,
02:10and you don't get anything to help you heal,
02:15as far as justice I'm speaking of.
02:20Today, I just want everyone to know that this isn't an easy thing to do,
02:29and to walk out into a room like this and see a crowd of people
02:33that obviously support you and come to hear you speak,
02:36that is empowering to me.
02:38So thank you Essence.
02:39Thank you everyone here.
02:41Please continue to support and love one another,
02:48and know that with the numbers we can do great things.
