00:03:02Aren't you going to open it?
00:03:02Not now.
00:03:05What's wrong?
00:03:07It's Dad.
00:03:09He didn't come home last night.
00:03:10So what?
00:03:11You know it doesn't mean a thing.
00:03:13I mean, you know how he is.
00:03:14What do you mean I know how he is?
00:03:18Nothing.
00:03:18Nothing.
00:03:20I...
00:03:21Well, where didn't he come home from last night?
00:03:38Well, he went to Springdale yesterday to buy me a present.
00:03:41He said he'd be back before dinner last night, but he still hasn't come back yet.
00:03:45Well, that doesn't mean a thing, Carol.
00:03:47I mean, it isn't the first time.
00:03:48You're mean, Mike.
00:03:51And I don't want your silly present either.
00:03:53Here.
00:03:54The electrons jump from one electrode to the other because of the difference in the electrical potential between the two poles.
00:04:15Now, this one is the negative pole from which electricity flows to the positive pole.
00:04:20We call the positive pole what?
00:04:22Amplitude.
00:04:23Correct.
00:04:24The negative pole?
00:04:25Amplitude.
00:04:26Good.
00:04:27If the voltage applied to these electrodes is increased to a greater amplitude, the electrical arc in turn will be greater.
00:04:34The larger the arc becomes, the more dangerous it is to anything that may be placed in its path.
00:04:39Now, one thing to remember is that the flow of electrons is always from the negative to the positive.
00:04:43The reason for this is that the positive pole has higher electrical potential.
00:04:48On a simple voltaic cell, the positive electrode is made of copper, the negative of zinc.
00:04:54A similar experiment to the one we've conducted here was recently carried out at Wisconsin Tech,
00:04:59using a voltage many thousands of times greater, which produced a spark closely simulating actual lightning.
00:05:05It isn't the voltage that creates the hazard.
00:05:07It's the amount of current flow.
00:05:08If a man were to come in contact with a high voltage without a direct path to ground,
00:05:13it's probable that he wouldn't be harmed.
00:05:15However, if the circuits completed to ground, the current will flow unhampered and cause them to be electrocuted.
00:05:21Now for our next experiment.
00:05:23If Mike, Carol, and Joe have finished their business.
00:05:25I can't blame people for what they think.
00:05:42Even Mother says he must have run into some of his old cronies and stayed in town.
00:05:46He had his paycheck with him.
00:05:48I know it isn't true.
00:05:50Not this time.
00:05:52He promised he'd be back.
00:05:54I know something's happened to him.
00:05:57Sure it did.
00:05:58Maybe he ran out of gas.
00:05:59He'd never meet anybody on this road.
00:06:05Hold everything.
00:06:06What do you call that?
00:06:06What are these stuff?
00:06:28I don't get it.
00:06:30Stuck to the tree up there and stretched across the highway and gets between two trees.
00:06:36Who would do a thing like that?
00:06:38I don't know.
00:06:39I don't even know what this stuff is.
00:06:43You know, it looks like there's been an accident around here or something.
00:06:48This figure is a guy driving along last night.
00:06:50Hits this thing stretched across the highway and cracks it up.
00:06:57See the glass?
00:06:58Wouldn't do too good for Joe's tires, would it?
00:07:07You know, maybe that's what happened to your old man.
00:07:11Where is he now?
00:07:12Oh, I wouldn't worry about that, Carol.
00:07:14He's probably hanging around some garage waiting for a busted fender to get fixed.
00:07:17To Carol with love, Dad.
00:07:32Okay, so he dropped it when the accident happened.
00:07:34What of it?
00:07:36If he was all right, he wouldn't leave it laying here.
00:07:39If he was in a garage, he'd call Mother and let her know.
00:07:43Look at that down there.
00:07:44There's no pickup truck.
00:07:48That's what Dad was driving.
00:08:14Good thing he got out of it in time.
00:08:22What if he didn't?
00:08:24Dad!
00:08:26Dad!
00:08:26What could a lad do?
00:08:28Well, if he's hurt, he could still be around somewhere.
00:08:31That's right, he could be.
00:08:33But he isn't.
00:08:37Unless he went in the cave.
00:08:39Oh, he wouldn't go in there.
00:08:40I never believed those stories about the cave.
00:08:42Maybe he doesn't either.
00:08:44You know, it got pretty cold last night.
00:08:45Suppose he couldn't walk far.
00:08:46I wanted to, well, keep warm until help came.
00:08:49Come on, let's go take a look.
00:08:52Come on.

00:08:58Come on, let's go.
00:08:59Come on, let's go.
00:09:00Come on, let's go.
00:09:01Come on, let's go.
00:09:02Come on, let's go.
00:09:03Come on, let's go.
00:09:04Come on, let's go.
00:09:05Come on, let's go.
00:09:06Come on, let's go.

00:14:01Dad!
00:14:02Dad!
00:14:03up on the road. What's that noise? I don't know. It's a regular network on, you know that?
00:14:17There it is again. Mike, what is it?
00:14:47Mike, what is it?
00:14:58Mike, please.
00:15:17I can't say for sure without having it analyzed,
00:15:23but it does look like a large piece of natural silk.
00:15:27What did we tell you?
00:15:29But that doesn't necessarily prove there's a giant spider.
00:15:31That part's pretty hard to swallow.
00:15:33But we saw it!
00:15:34Believe me, my son is not in the habit of lying, Mrs. Keatman.
00:15:37That isn't what Helen meant.
00:15:39Whether we believe their story or not,
00:15:41the man to see about it is the sheriff.
00:15:43Yeah, sure, see the sheriff.
00:15:46We did.
00:15:47He didn't believe them.
00:16:09Sheriff's house?
00:16:11Oh, yes, Mr. Kingman.
00:16:12What can I do for you?
00:16:14Oh, don't go yet.
00:16:15It's only that high school teacher.
00:16:16Well, you know these teenagers as well as I do, Mr. Kingman.
00:16:22Yeah, what will they pull next, huh?
00:16:26Spiders.
00:16:27I told them to bring me one, and I believe it.
00:16:30I can't say I blame you, Sheriff.
00:16:32Naturally, I didn't call you up to get you to investigate abnormal insect life.
00:16:36But Flynn's still missing, I believe.
00:16:38The youngsters found traces of him out there.
00:16:41You may be doing yourself a favor if you looked into that.
00:16:43Well, you took the words right out of my mouth, Mr. Kingman.
00:16:46The fact of the matter is, I've got my deputy Sanders out rounding up a search party right now.
00:16:51Get half a dozen men.
00:16:52Spencer, Haskell, maybe old Jake, anyone else that isn't busy.
00:16:55Bring them here, and I'll swear them in.
00:16:57Well, I'll need those two kids with us to point things out.
00:17:05And if you want to come along, too, that's fine.
00:17:09Oh, don't you worry.
00:17:11We'll bring rifles in case we run into that spider.
00:17:14Anything else on your mind?
00:17:20Well, speaking of spiders, are you sure rifles are just the thing?
00:17:23Insects have a pretty simple nervous system, Sheriff.
00:17:26You could plug holes in one all day and never hit a vital spot.
00:17:29If you want to be on the safe side, call the pest control people in Springdale.
00:17:33Have them send out all the DDT they can find.
00:17:35Good.
00:17:39A giant spider.
00:17:42What next?
00:17:44Well, bring your buck juice and let's go.
00:17:58Hey, what are we using it on?
00:18:00Does it make any difference?
00:18:01Well, I've got to mix the DDT according to what you want killed.
00:18:04What do I tell him, Professor?
00:18:06Spiders?
00:18:07A 2 to 4% solution is the usual dose.
00:18:10Make it 50.
00:18:14Amen.
00:18:15Amen.
00:19:47Do you think we'll find that girl's paw in here alive?
00:19:53We might.
00:19:54Spiders have a habit of studying their prey with venom
00:19:56and storing them in a silk bag till they're ready to feed on them.
00:20:00Then they heat them up, I suppose.
00:20:02Not quite.
00:20:03They drain the liquid from the bodies, leaving only the skin and bones.
00:20:07Man, what a mind you've got.
00:20:10All right, let's look for Flynn.
00:20:12And don't lose sight of the man next to you.
00:20:13No sense in anyone getting lost.
00:20:15Just a minute.
00:20:29This is a waste of time.
00:20:31You know something?
00:20:33I haven't seen a spider yet, and I don't think we will.
00:20:36You will if he's still there.
00:20:38It'd be just our luck if he'd moved into the next county.
00:20:42I don't think you'll be disappointed.
00:20:44There's something in here, all right.
00:20:45You naturally expect to find a certain amount of wildlife in a cave.
00:20:49Rats, mice, bats, and so on.
00:20:51But you don't.
00:20:54Maybe it'll frighten it out.
00:20:57Ah.
00:20:57No wildlife, eh, Kingman?
00:21:14That's about as big as they come, I'd say.
00:21:16I wouldn't handle it if I were you.
00:21:18It might have rabies.
00:21:27There, it's buried.
00:21:47Want to say a few words over it, Sheriff?
00:21:49Yeah.
00:21:57That's your father.
00:22:14Uh, when you get back to town, make out a coroner's report.
00:22:18Just put down Jack Flynn as the name, and the cause of death, uh...
00:22:23It was a spider.
00:22:24Drained all the liquid out of his body.
00:22:25Uh, just put down cause unknown, and let the coroner worry about the rest.
00:22:32That's trouble with you eggheads.
00:22:33You jump to conclusions.
00:22:35I know what I see, and I see a dead man.
00:22:37But, uh, I don't see any spider.
00:22:40We can do something about that.
00:22:42Mike, where was the web?
00:22:45Right through there.
00:22:48Wait a minute.
00:22:49You don't know what you're doing.
00:22:50You can't just walk in there.
00:22:52Why not?
00:22:55Find any giant spiders, Sheriff?
00:23:10Oh, shut up.
00:23:12Get that DDT in here quick.
00:23:14Come on.
00:23:27Here, you better put these on.
00:23:28I suggest you spray that whole cavern so it'll get it when it comes back.
00:23:31Okay.
00:23:34Oh, favor.
00:23:36Here we go.
00:23:41Come on.
00:23:43Come on.
00:23:48Come here.
00:23:50There we go.
00:25:58Maybe I dropped it in there.
00:25:59You can't go back there now. The place is full of gas.
00:26:03We'll come back some other time together.
00:26:05Hey, Haskell, when you get back to town, tell old Warren to get right out here and board this entrance up.
00:26:18Right, Sheriff.
00:26:18Well, if you do, I'd suggest you put a big, wide door in it.
00:26:24The whole world is going to want to come here and take a look at that thing down there.
00:26:28Well, what's your idea? That the town should charge admission?
00:26:31That isn't what I was thinking of.
00:26:33You know what we eggheads are like, Sheriff? We want to know why this, how come that, what about the other?
00:26:38That's a matter of scientific interest to find out what made that creature tick.
00:26:42Well, it's too late now. It's dead.
00:26:43The spider is, but not the principle that caused it to grow. That's still for us to discover.
00:26:49Well, why bother?
00:26:50We have to put an end to it.
00:26:52Otherwise, there may be more giant spiders coming into the world.
00:26:55They may even be hatching from their eggs in some remote spot right now.
00:26:57Do you realize how easy it would be for them to overcome us humans?
00:27:02Then instead of being the hunters, we'd become the hunted.
00:27:04They'd be our masters. They'd live on us.
00:27:07What would you suggest the Sheriff's Office of River Falls do about it, Mr. Kingman?
00:27:12Bring that spider up into the daylight where it can be studied properly.
00:27:16Well, if you want to do it, go ahead and leave me out.
00:27:19It's not my job, and I don't want any part of it.
00:27:22Okay, Sheriff.
00:27:27Ugly creature, isn't it?
00:27:34I can think of more suitable subjects for my camera club to take pictures of.
00:27:39What are you going to do with them? Send it to the papers?
00:27:41No, just the opposite.
00:27:42One big advantage of living in an isolated mountain community like River Falls
00:27:45is not having reporters crawling all over the place.
00:27:48Yet.
00:27:50I'm going to send these photographs along with a complete report to Dr. Berg and state you.
00:27:55Nancy, would you get me some close-ups, please?
00:27:57Oh, sure.
00:28:01Good old Bergen.
00:28:03I am for biology my junior year.
00:28:05You know, I know exactly what he's going to say.
00:28:08Gentlemen, this is a perfect specimen.
00:28:10Exquisite, exquisite.
00:28:12I can't quite appreciate the humor in it myself.
00:28:15I saw it when I was still alive.
00:28:18I expect the university is going to want it for experiment and dissection.
00:28:22Frankly, I'll feel relieved when they come and take it off my hands.
00:28:25I can't say I blame you.
00:28:27It is a little unhandy.
00:28:29Took a house mover from Riverdale to get it here.
00:28:31Cost me half my savings.
00:28:34Besides wanting my money back, I'd like to get the high school board off my neck.
00:28:38I suppose the university doesn't go for it.
00:28:41I'd better.
00:28:41Do you think I'm going to all this bother really because I've come across a scientific wonder?
00:28:53Not a bit.
00:28:55Somewhere in that hideous carcass are the genes that control organic growth.
00:29:00Man, I'd better find out what made this creature so big.
00:29:03And find out fast, or we're all going to be in pretty serious trouble.
00:29:05Usually, if nature produces a freak, it dies immediately, because it can't adapt itself to life.
00:29:22It's what we ordinarily call a bird spider.
00:29:26But the wonder of it is it's perfect, Fraser.
00:29:29Perfect in every detail.
00:29:31Fraser, you heard?
00:29:41Are you sure that thing's dead?
00:29:43I'm sure it's dead.
00:29:45How come it kicked me?
00:29:46It's just a muscular contraction.
00:29:48Gavani's reaction, it's called.
00:29:49It often happens.
00:29:51Not to me, it doesn't.
00:29:53If it can do that when it's dead, I sure hate to meet it somewhere alive.
00:29:57Don't, Carol.
00:30:14I can't help it, Mother.
00:30:15I know.
00:30:18I loved him, too.
00:30:21I keep thinking it was my fault.
00:30:25How could it be?
00:30:27It never would have happened if he hadn't gone to get me that present.
00:30:32I've lost it.
00:30:33You mustn't think of it that way, Carol.
00:30:37Why did I have to drop it in that cave?
00:30:40I wanted so much to keep it, Mother.
00:30:43Forget about it now, dear.
00:30:44You have your homework to get ready for tomorrow.
00:30:46Oh, and I forgot.
00:30:53Mike called you twice before you got home from school
00:30:55and said he would be at his father's theater.
00:30:58Oh, thanks, Mother.
00:30:59Hello, Mr. Simpson.
00:31:19Can I talk to Mike?
00:31:20Mike, you want it on the phone?
00:31:32Oh, okay, thanks.
00:31:33Hello.
00:31:49Hello?
00:31:50Hi, Mike.
00:31:51This is Carol.
00:31:51Carol, you said you'd take me out to the cave to find the bracelet.
00:31:55You don't mean right now, do you?
00:31:57If you can get away.
00:31:59Please, Mike.
00:32:00Carol, not today.
00:32:01My dad just got in a new picture, and I haven't even seen it yet.
00:32:04Something about puppet people.
00:32:05It sounds pretty wild.
00:32:07Please.
00:32:10Okay, Carol.
00:32:11I think I can borrow Joe's car again.
00:32:13Only don't come by the house for me.
00:32:15I don't want Mother to know I'm going out there.
00:32:18All right, I'll be down at the corner in 15 minutes.
00:32:21I'll be waiting.
00:32:25I'll see you, Dad.
00:32:26I got a date now.
00:32:28Where will you be?
00:32:29I said, where will you be if I want to?
00:32:42Hey, Joe.
00:32:45Hi.
00:32:46Hey, um, you remember that five bucks I loaned you?
00:32:49Sure.
00:32:49It was last Christmas, and I paid it back.
00:32:51Well, all I mean is, I'm your friend.
00:32:53You know that, don't you?
00:32:54You want to borrow five bucks?
00:32:54Oh, no, no.
00:32:57Carol and I used your wagon for a couple of hours.
00:32:59Again?
00:33:01What's the big deal?
00:33:03Well, what do you care?
00:33:05Look, we're friends, Joe.
00:33:06Just remember that.
00:33:06Why don't you come to the rehearsal?
00:33:07If my mom is getting tired, are we friends or aren't we?
00:33:09Okay, okay.
00:33:10The car's in the driveway.
00:33:12You'll find the keys in the glove compartment.
00:33:13Where else?
00:33:14Why do I have so many friends?
00:33:16Thanks, Joe.
00:33:16Sure.
00:33:18Come on, Joe.
00:33:19We got problems.
00:33:21No soap.
00:33:22It's off limits.
00:33:22I told you.
00:33:28Look, we've got to get in.
00:33:30The dance is tomorrow night.
00:33:32Oh, the cats and I don't blast if we don't swing solid.
00:33:36Hey, let's get the janitor.
00:33:38Maybe he'll open the pen.
00:33:39Oh, not with Mr. Egglake still in there.
00:33:42Well, they can't hang us for trying, can they?
00:33:45Hugo!
00:33:46Hugo!
00:33:47Hey, Hugo!
00:33:47Hugo!
00:33:49Who's calling Hugo?
00:33:50Oh, well, now, what's the matter here?
00:33:54We want in.
00:33:55We've got to develop our talents.
00:33:57I didn't have to use the auditorium until further notice.
00:33:59The principal's orders.
00:34:01No can do.
00:34:02The drama class is there.
00:34:03I can't help that.
00:34:04Kingman is just here checking out.
00:34:06Told me in particular not to let nobody in.
00:34:09Well, Kingman didn't meet us.
00:34:10He meant squares.
00:34:11We're the coolest zoologists in town.
00:34:13No, siree.
00:34:15The moving people are coming here tonight to move that thing to the university.
00:34:19You can rehearse all you want to do afterwards.
00:34:21In the dead of night, Hugo were only little kids.
00:34:24Mommy wouldn't let us.
00:34:26Well, all right, you monsters.
00:34:30And now I want you to behave yourself.
00:34:33Don't talk to me with that thing.
00:34:35Did that?
00:34:36Now, the first guy who steps on Daddy Longlegs is going to hear from Hugo.
00:34:40Yeah.
00:34:47Crazy.
00:35:04It's big, all right.
00:35:06Hey, maybe the drama class is through with the auditorium.
00:35:08Let's blow this place.
00:35:09It gives me the creeps.
00:35:10What is it, Superman?
00:35:12Chickening out?
00:35:12Well, certainly not.
00:35:14Well, let's stop goofing out, huh?
00:35:15Now, guys, start with the opening number, and don't go to sleep on it.
00:35:36Play with everything you've got.
00:35:37Loud enough to wake the dead, huh?
00:35:38Hey, what goes on here?
00:35:53It's the drama class.
00:35:54What else?
00:35:55All right, either you come in or get out.
00:35:57I don't stand there and scream.
00:35:59We're rehearsing.
00:35:59One, two, three, four.
00:36:07Well, okay, let's go.
00:36:09All right, let's go.
00:38:11Hello?
00:38:13Hello?
00:38:15Hello?
00:38:17Hello?

00:38:36Hello?
00:38:37Hello?
00:38:38Hello?
00:38:39Hello?
00:38:40I'll get it.
00:38:41Great guy Pete Sanders was.
00:38:43You've got plenty to live up to.
00:38:46Sheriff's Office, Cagle speaking.
00:38:49What?
00:38:50All right, Mr. Kingman.
00:38:53I'll meet you at the school.
00:38:55You stay here and answer the phone.
00:38:57Helen!
00:39:01What is it, Art?
00:39:02It would be a good idea if you stayed inside the house for a while.
00:39:05Oh, and I was just going to take the baby for his checkup and do some shopping for dinner.
00:39:08Stay in the house, Helen.
00:39:09No matter what.
00:39:10I'll be back as soon as I can.
00:39:11I'll be back as soon as I can.
00:39:41I'll be back as soon as I can.
00:39:42I'll be back as soon as you can.
00:39:43I'll be back as soon as I can.
00:39:44I can't wait.
00:39:45No matter what you see, Tracey.
00:39:46I'll be back!
00:39:47Let's see what you see.
00:39:48Come on, then let's go.
00:39:49Come on.
00:39:50l'm up.
00:39:51Watch him.
00:39:52I'll be back as soon as I can.
00:39:53Come on.
00:39:54Alright, men.
00:39:55Let's do that.
00:39:56I'll be back as soon as I can.
00:39:57You're done!
00:39:58Come on, I'll be back as soon as I can.
00:39:59Oh, my God.
00:40:29Oh, my God.
00:40:59Oh, my God.
00:41:29Oh, my God.
00:41:59How's that call to the Capitol coming?
00:42:01Well, hurry it up.
00:42:02We want action here.
00:42:03Get off the streets!
00:42:06Hello?
00:42:07Hello?
00:42:07Sheriff Cagle, River Falls.
00:42:10Hello?
00:42:12Get off the streets!
00:42:13Hello?
00:42:19Hello?
00:42:19Hello?
00:42:26Operator, I've been cut off.
00:42:30Okay, sister.
00:42:31Well, that's that.
00:42:33The long-distance lines are down.
00:42:35I got my motorcycle out back.
00:42:37How long would it take you to get to Springdale on it?
00:42:40Maybe an hour, maybe less.
00:42:41Go ahead.
00:42:42And get the governor on the phone.
00:42:44Tell him we've got to have troops from Fort Brown.
00:42:46Also, flamethrowers and artillery.
00:42:48Tell him we need...
00:42:49DDT?
00:42:50No good.
00:42:51That stuff just stunned it.
00:42:53All right, Dave.
00:42:53On your way.
00:42:54Wait, Dave.
00:42:55All right, Dave.
00:43:13Go ahead.
00:43:23All right, Dave.
00:43:25Oh, my God.
00:43:55It's still too soon for the troops to be here.
00:44:02I know.
00:44:03I thought they might fly a few men in with whirlybirds.
00:44:05I'll give them time.
00:44:08Hey, isn't that Jake?
00:44:12Wait a minute, Jake.
00:44:16Where to, Jake?
00:44:18I'm evacuating.
00:44:19That darn monster run me out of house and home.
00:44:21Which way was it heading?
00:44:22Toward Maple Street.
00:44:24I've had it.
00:44:25Maple Street.
00:44:28Helen.
00:44:34I think that's just right now.
00:44:35Come on, just a little bit.
00:44:51I'll do这些。
00:44:52Hey.
00:44:52Hey.
00:44:53Hey.
00:44:54A building?
00:44:54No!
00:44:56Hey!
00:44:58Hey!
00:45:00Hey!
00:45:01Hey!
00:45:02Hey!
00:45:02Hey!
00:45:03Oh!
00:45:04Oh, my God.
00:45:34Oh, my God.
00:46:04Oh, my God.
00:46:34Oh, my God.
00:47:04Sheriff, any news from Springdale yet?
00:47:11Not a word.
00:47:13Good.
00:47:15Kingman says the spider's headed south along the old Higgins Road.
00:47:18At least the town's safe.
00:47:21Mike, will you help me look for it?
00:47:33Yeah, okay.
00:47:43This isn't getting us anywhere.
00:47:44Why don't I buy you another bracelet?
00:47:49Wouldn't be the same at all.
00:47:51Besides, I'm broke.
00:47:55Well, when was the last time you remember having it?
00:47:57Well, it was just before I fell on the web.
00:48:01I was up there, and then I stumbled.
00:48:04If I dropped it then, it should be around here somewhere.
00:48:07Mike.
00:48:17Did you find it?
00:48:17No, but there's an opening down here.
00:48:21Do you think it could have fallen through?
00:48:24Yeah, it looks like there's another cave down there.
00:48:26Maybe we can get into it through this opening over here.
00:48:30Come on.
00:48:30Wow, there must be hundreds of these caves down here.
00:48:50Hello?
00:48:52Hello?
00:48:54Look for my gracious.
00:48:55Oh, I am looking.
00:49:00Here it is.
00:49:14I guess you're happy now.
00:49:16Oh, I am.
00:49:17No kidding.
00:49:17Good, then I guess we can go home.
00:49:20Let's see, which way?
00:49:22That way.
00:49:23Okay, only this time let me keep this thing for you
00:49:26till we get out, okay?
00:49:28Come on.
00:49:30Let's see.
00:49:44Let's see.
00:49:46Oh, no.
00:49:46Oh, no.
00:49:48Oh, no.
00:49:48Oh, no.
00:49:56Oh, no.
00:49:58We got enough spiders around here.
00:50:28Well, help ought to be here soon now.
00:50:42Sheriff Cagle again, sister.
00:50:44How soon before those long-distance lines to Springdale are going to get fixed?
00:50:49Another two hours, maybe.
00:50:53Okay, sister. Keep working on it.
00:50:58Open the door, will you, Simpson?
00:51:05It's Dave.
00:51:20Where did you find them?
00:51:23To corner Maple and Horton. He never got to Springdale for help.
00:51:28That puts us right back where we start.
00:51:30And all we've got to do is sit right here and wait for that thing to come back and finish us all off.
00:51:35I was all in favor of sealing off that cave some time ago while the monster was still in it.
00:51:41Wasn't I, Kingman?
00:51:43You can do it right now.
00:51:46It went back to the cave. Yes, sir, I've seen it.
00:51:49The thing to do is to get lumber out there and board that entrance up tight.
00:51:52Boards won't hold it.
00:51:53Any better ideas?
00:51:54You're the road farmer, aren't you, Mr. Haskell?
00:51:56I am.
00:51:57Do you have enough dynamite to blow up the cave entrance?
00:51:59I can blow up half that hill if you want me to.
00:52:02Okay, Sam, go ahead and get the stuff. We'll meet you at your place.
00:52:05Right.
00:52:06Simpson, you've been sworn in.
00:52:07Take care of the office for me till I get back and call the coroner.
00:52:11The rest of you boys come with us.
00:52:26Sheriff's office, Simpson speaking.
00:52:28Oh, hello, Mr. Simpson.
00:52:30This is Joe, Mike's friend. Remember me?
00:52:33Oh, yes, Joe. What's the trouble?
00:52:37I better tell the sheriff.
00:52:39Well, he's not here now. Maybe you'd better tell me.
00:52:42What is it, Joe?
00:52:44Well, it's about my heap.
00:52:46Somebody mooched it off me today to go for a ride.
00:52:49And it isn't back yet.
00:52:51After what that spider did this afternoon,
00:52:54well, I was just wondering if the...
00:52:56Well, it's a good idea to check.
00:52:57What's the boy's name?
00:52:58Well, it was Mike and Carol Flynn.
00:53:00Did they get back yet?
00:53:02No.
00:53:03At least I haven't seen them.
00:53:05They say where they might be heading.
00:53:07No, sir.
00:53:08Thank you, Joe.
00:53:10I'll look into it.
00:53:21Hello.
00:53:22Now, Mrs. Flynn, this is Mike Simpson's father.
00:53:25Didn't take us this long to come in, did it?
00:53:28Sure it did. You just forget.
00:53:40What time is it?
00:53:41I don't know. I haven't got a watch.
00:53:42I've got a feeling it's late.
00:53:43Still light.
00:53:44Don't kid me. That's luminous algae.
00:53:45It grows on cave walls and it shines.
00:53:46Don't you remember Mr. Kingman told our science class?
00:53:49All right, but from the next cabin you'll see daylight outside. You want to bet?
00:53:52I don't see any daylight.
00:53:53Good.
00:53:54Good.
00:53:55I don't see any daylight.
00:53:56Good.
00:53:57I've never been in this cave before either.
00:53:58I never been in this cave before either.
00:53:59I can't see any daylight.
00:54:00I can't see any daylight.
00:54:02That's luminous algae.
00:54:04It grows on cave walls and it shines.
00:54:06Don't you remember Mr. Kingman told our science class?
00:54:09All right, but from the next cabin you'll see daylight outside.
00:54:12You want to bet?
00:54:19I don't see any daylight.
00:54:22Good.
00:54:24We've never been in this cave before either.
00:54:29We're lost.
00:54:33I know.
00:54:35Well, let's hurry up and find our way out.
00:54:37That's what I'm doing.
00:54:39I figure if we just go straight ahead, we'll come to the part we know.
00:54:43Come on, let's go this way.
00:55:01Why?
00:55:01Mike, Mike, we can't go any further.
00:55:08It's a dead end.
00:55:11There's got to be another way out.
00:55:15What you ought to do is find it.
00:55:21Mike, look.
00:55:24There's something written on the wall.
00:55:26What did I tell you?
00:55:29There have been people through here before.
00:55:32George Weston lost April 9th, 1902.
00:55:38Mike!
00:55:42You must have starved to death.
00:55:45I'm getting awfully worried, Mike.
00:55:47Me too, Carol.
00:55:50Why did I ever have to bring you down?
00:55:52Here, it's all my fault.
00:55:54Forgive me.
00:55:57What do you suppose your mother's thinking?
00:55:59Well, they wouldn't tell her.
00:56:01She's in the hospital having a baby.
00:56:03What about your dad?
00:56:03He's a pretty good Joe.
00:56:06I think he can take it.
00:56:08My mother can't.
00:56:12Not after what happened to my father.
00:56:14Don't make yourself feel bad, Carol.
00:56:16Don't you eat it, Ben.
00:56:25You know, all of a sudden I feel hungry.
00:56:28Me too.
00:56:30I just remembered.
00:56:30I've got a candy bar with me.
00:56:32I've got a candy bar with me.
00:57:02All right, Joe, man.
00:57:17I think it's snappy.
00:57:18Let's get that gear off that truck.
00:57:32Carol always lets me know when she isn't coming home.
00:57:44Always.
00:57:46But today, I don't know.
00:57:47She just wasn't herself.
00:57:49She attached too much importance to that bracelet.
00:57:52Oh, I hope she and Mike haven't gone back to that cave.
00:57:54Carol, do you see?
00:58:00This is the place where we got lost.
00:58:02Now I know the way it's through there.
00:58:03But the spider, Mike.
00:58:05If we stay here, we'll find us.
00:58:06Come on, let's run.
00:58:13There's the hole we fell through.
00:58:15We haven't got far to go now.
00:58:16Come on, climb up to the web.
00:58:17Come on.
00:58:29I'm stuck.
00:58:30Give me your hand.
00:58:31Give me your hand.
00:58:32Oh, come on.
00:58:37It's coming.
00:58:39Bill, Pete, let's get that extra dynamite out of here.
00:58:41Well, that'll be the end of our spider's nest, eh, Kingman?
00:58:49End the spider.
00:58:50That's what you said last time.
00:58:52No, this time it's for sure.
00:58:53It's got to die.
00:58:54No living organism can survive for long once its food supply is cut off.
00:58:58We'll be ready to blow her up in a couple seconds.
00:59:00Well, let her blow when you're ready.
00:59:06Get right back, all you men.
00:59:08I don't want anyone hurt.
00:59:11Isn't that Joe's car over there?
00:59:29Oh, yes, it is.
00:59:30Please do something.
00:59:54You seal them up.
00:59:55You're going to have to open that cave and get them out.
00:59:57Now, don't get excited.
00:59:58We're going to do everything for them we can.
01:00:01How do we go about it, Haskell?
01:00:03Open up the cave again?
01:00:04That's easy to say, Sheriff, but it's going to take some doing.
01:00:08Well, we blew up tons of earth and rock over that opening.
01:00:10Brought half the hillside down.
01:00:12Well, then we better start clearing it away.
01:00:15It'll take days, maybe a week even.
01:00:17Well, there isn't that much time.
01:00:18If the spider doesn't get them, the bad air will.
01:00:20Well, then we better get going.
01:00:22The sooner the better.
01:00:23You've got a car.
01:00:24Go into town and get them to send out a bulldozer.
01:00:26Wait, maybe a quicker way than that.
01:00:29See that flat shelf a little higher up the mountain?
01:00:31Suppose we dug straight down from there.
01:00:35How about it, Haskell?
01:00:36Looks good to me.
01:00:38Let's get those ropes, sticks, and shovels out of that truck.
01:00:40Here's where we go to work.
01:00:41Well, you don't want to look at it like that, Mrs. Flynn.
01:00:57You've got to remember that cave is a big place, and those kids have a lot of sense.
01:01:01They'll find places where the spider can't get at them.
01:01:04If we do dig our way in, what's to keep it from getting at us?
01:01:07I don't know.
01:01:08What do you say, King?
01:01:09Well, we've got to have some kind of an effective weapon against it.
01:01:12That's obvious.
01:01:14That power line across the hills.
01:01:17If we could bring a cable over from there, what for?
01:01:22Let's see if we can electrocute the beast.
01:01:31Nowhere we can find a quarter mile of insulated copper cable this side of Springdale.
01:01:35You might try this weapon on this.
01:01:37It seems to me I saw a lot of that stuff in there.
01:01:40You want to go for it in the truck, Simpson?
01:01:42Yeah.
01:01:42I'm sure you wouldn't waste any time getting it back.
01:01:47How's it coming?
01:01:48Not bad, but we have plenty to go.
01:01:50How's it coming?
01:01:51How's it coming?
01:02:08I'm sorry.
01:02:09When did he get out of us?
01:02:12I'm sorry.

01:03:32Is this the place we came in?
01:03:34I'm sure it was.
01:03:36It blew up the opening.

01:07:37We're going down after them now, Mrs. Flynn.
01:07:39It may take a little while before we find them,
01:07:40but we'll send up news as fast as we can.
01:07:42As soon as I get down there,
01:07:49pass along the cable and the electrodes.
01:07:50Keep it coming.
01:07:51See, they have plenty of slack.
01:07:52No telling how much I'll need.
