00:00We founded Tux Rush for Literacy because we're passionate about kids and education.
00:09Both of us truly value our education and recognize the doors that it's opened.
00:14We're pretty hands-on. I think when we started this, we said to ourselves,
00:18we're not going to be one of these people that just writes a check and you'll see us at the event.
00:24We do school visits. We call into the principals and teachers making sure that what we're doing is received
00:33but also we want feedback on how to make it better.
00:38We work with eight schools currently and we don't want that number to get too large
00:43because it is important to us to engage with the students to get feedback.
00:47Do you guys like the books we're choosing? To find out from the teachers.
00:50We had a great meeting last week and they said our special ed classes, we need books with bigger font.
00:56I mean, we feel like we need to be able to be hands-on in all those schools
01:01and to use his platform as a professional athlete to inspire children.
01:06My moment was having a parent come up to me and say,
01:09you know, before you started doing this in our school,
01:13we couldn't get our son to pick up anything to read.
01:17You know, he would just do the basics to get by in school or whatever it may be.
01:21And now, you know, I guess at the time she told me this,
01:25it had been like a week before she had walked into her son's room,
01:29probably around 11 o'clock and he had fell asleep reading a book.
01:32And she just said, you know, that would have never happened if someone like myself
01:37when they came in and told them that reading is important or today would be different.
01:41You know, we all know that they can do everything different.
