Dans le futur, en 2049. Walt, un étudiant, souhaite se rendre sur la planète Mars qui est désormais colonisée. Mais sa candidature est refusée à plusieurs reprises. Il fait la connaissance de Sophie qui, elle aussi, a envie d'aller sur la planète rouge où se trouve déjà son petit ami, Calvin. Se faufilant à bord d'une navette spatiale, les deux étudiants, aux caractères bien différents, partent enfin pour Mars. Ils unissent leurs forces pour y retrouver leurs amoureux...
