00:00U.S. Defense Official Elbridge Colby recently said that the U.S.'s forces in South Korea will expand their role beyond North Korea and to actually help deter Beijing in the Taiwan Strait.
00:12In your view, how effective could this ship be in terms of countering Chinese-growing military threats?
00:18United States forces in Korea is one of the most available and convenient forces to use in the case of Taiwan's contingencies.
00:29If China understands, you know, all the island chains, you know, the U.S. forces actually is not only in South Korea,
00:41the American forces are available in cases to join the U.S. forces, you know, to counter China against Taiwan,
00:52then that will increase U.S. military capability to convince China not to risk the movement against Taiwan.
01:02Colby also stressed that the U.S. is seeking a balance of power in the Indo-Pacific region instead of seeking to dominate China.
01:10So what are the messages he's trying to send to the countries in the region?
01:14So it's not that U.S. will take initiative to against China. Instead, U.S. will take a passive response to China's aggression to Taiwan.
01:28So I think this is means under the what Colby says, the facts of realism.
01:36I think that Washington also want to show the regional countries, it is common interest for the older regions country.
01:46And U.S. will not take that kind of intimidating or aggressive actions against China.
01:55U.S. just want a kind of decent peace.
01:58What role does Taiwan play in this shift?
02:01Because from the 2026 U.S. national defense strategy, Taiwan is not mentioned for once.
02:07Do you think defending Taiwan is still part of U.S.'s goals?
02:11And everyone knows if when you're talking about, you know, the deterrent China, Taiwan is, you cannot just avoid Taiwan's role.
02:23The U.S. just want to, you know, adopt the strategic ambiguities.
02:28And, you know, in these years, the Trump and the Xi Jinping, they were met, especially I think Trump will go to China in this April.
02:40So try to U.S. just try to create a friendly, you know, the atmosphere of the situation.
