00:01The Jacob Zuma Foundation has hit back strongly against what it calls an attempt to smear former President Jacob Zuma after his name appeared in newly unsealed court files related to the late convicted sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein.
00:16The Foundation spokesperson Zanele Mani dismissed their claims as an ethically responsible and intellectually dishonest stating they will not participate in speculative narrative building disguised as journalism.
00:32The allegations stem from a 2010 email exchange in which an individual named Mark Lloyd appears to organize a dinner at a London hotel for Zuma during a UK visit.
00:44In the email, Lloyd writes that Epstein suggested inviting a woman referred to as Vera to, quote, add some real glamour to the occasion.
00:55The Foundation, however, has flatly denied any connections between Zuma and Epstein, who died in prison in 2019.
01:04Mani concluded firmly the matter is closed.
01:07The files were released by the U.S. Department of Justice, reigniting global scrutiny of Epstein's network and have now sparked a defiant response from South Africa's former leader.
