00:01Coming to theaters from Walt Disney Pictures.
00:06In 1937, Walt Disney made motion picture history
00:10when he transformed a classic fairy tale
00:13into one of the most successful feature films of all time,
00:17Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.
00:20For the first time, audiences were transported to a world of pure imagination
00:25filled with color, music, and the incredible magic of animation.
00:30But Snow White was just the beginning.
00:33The parade of memorable Disney characters would stretch across generations,
00:38bringing to life some of the most wonderful stories ever told.
00:42And this tradition of family entertainment continues today.
00:46With Oliver and Company and The Little Mermaid,
00:49a whole new generation has been introduced to the magic and music of Disney animation.
00:55Oliver and Company brought together the vocal talents of superstars Bette Midler and Billy Joel
01:05to help us experience New York City Disney-style.
01:09Yeah, that's right, man!
01:11Yeah, yeah!
01:12In the Academy Award-winning Little Mermaid,
01:15the Disney family grew even larger
01:17with new friends like Ariel, Flounder, and Scrabble,
01:21and a host of unforgettable faces who took us...
01:24I'm gonna see,
01:26these little snails, you know how to wail here,
01:29that's why it's hotter, I'm the new water,
01:31yeah, look, yeah, name, look, yeah, I'm gonna see,
01:36I'm gonna see...
01:39Now, the Walt Disney Studio is preparing its 30th full-length animated feature film, Beauty and the Beast.
01:48And we have a rare opportunity to go behind the scenes and see firsthand just how the magic is made.
01:55Hi, I'm Jeffrey Katzenberg, chairman of the Walt Disney Studios.
01:59At Disney, when we set out to make an animated feature,
02:02the first thing we look for is a very special story and unforgettable characters.
02:07And that's just what Beauty and the Beast is, a great story and great characters.
02:13In Designing Beast, I had to figure out, well, is he gonna be just a ferocious monster?
02:18Or does he have a heart?
02:20Well, I'll be working on the heroine, Belle, in the opening song.
02:23She's walking down the street singing to people who are walking by.
02:26Bonjour! Bonjour! Bonjour! Bonjour! Bonjour!
02:30There goes the baker with his tray like always.
02:33Once we've created the characters in the story, we record the voices that begin to bring the characters to life.
02:40Like so many other great Disney films, Beauty and the Beast is a musical.
02:45So we've reassembled the Academy Award-winning songwriting team from The Little Mermaid to create those very special songs.
02:53When Angela Lansbury does the teapot in the movie, suddenly that character transcends both the animation and the voice and together you have a whole new character that stands on its own.
03:02He's got a dog to do! Is it my dog or two? For you, I guess!
03:07He's our guest! He's our guest! He's our guest! He's our guest! He's our guest! He's our guest!
03:13Like all Disney classics, Beauty and the Beast promises to take us to a magical place.
03:19A place we've never been before. A place full of pure Disney imagination.
03:24Coming only to theaters in Fall 1991.
