00:00I want a mother drink! I want more drinks! Later! Later!
00:03I'm right here. I'm right here.
00:05We want more tequila!
00:06Welcome to Ms. Mojo, and today we're counting down our picks for the top 10 Kids in the Hall sketches.
00:13Tattoos aren't for everyone!
00:17But they do help you remember a guy.
00:21Oh, Helen.
00:22For this list, we're looking at the funniest and most notable sketches from the legendary Canadian sketch show, The Kids in the Hall.
00:28What's your favorite sketch? Let us know in the comments.
00:32Number 10. Things to do.
00:34In this sketch, a man played by Kevin MacDonald is focused on the list of things he has to do for the day.
00:40Got seven things to do. Number one, banking. Number two, pick up...
00:44Hey, you just knocked over the old lady. Keep moving. You got seven things to do.
00:48He's so preoccupied with his tasks that he doesn't pay attention to other people around him, such as the dangerous criminals who take him hostage.
00:56Maybe you don't understand the situation that you are in. You are a hostage, and I am a man with a gun, so shut up!
01:03MacDonald is hilarious with his single-minded fixation, and it's something that we can all perhaps relate to whenever we have to run errands over the course of a day.
01:11You gotta keep on top of my life.
01:13You just knock on the same old lady. Keep moving. You got five things to do.
01:18Though, hopefully, we don't get as carried away as this guy.
01:22Number nine. Becoming a man.
01:24While poor Chad is celebrating his 13th birthday party, his dad interrupts the festivities to make him go through a rite of passage to transition him into manhood.
01:33Better take off that party hat, son. You're not gonna need it where we're going.
01:38Following a bizarre family tradition, Chad's father drives him out in the middle of nowhere and gets drunk right in front of the boy.
01:45Ten bucks is ten bucks.
01:51And twenty bucks is twenty bucks.
01:54His drunken behavior includes giving unhelpful advice and acting like a fool.
01:59This may not sound like a funny idea for a sketch on its face, but the uncomfortable humor and the performance of Bruce McCullough, who plays the drunk father, make the sketch work.
02:07I want to peruse your report card.
02:09I don't have it.
02:13I said, mister, I want your report card.
02:18Number eight. Gavin. Religion.
02:21Like several other sketch shows, Kids in the Hall have their share of recurring characters, including Gavin.
02:27Did you know that movie stars get their hair cut every day?
02:29It's true. Movie stars get their hair cut every day, so no one will notice and make fun of them.
02:34Played by Bruce McCullough, Gavin is a little kid that acts like a socially awkward oddball.
02:40Despite trying to be friendly in his interactions, he comes off as a nuisance to everyone around him.
02:45No, no, we don't want you to eat our Bible.
02:48We want you to read our Bible.
02:50In one sketch, evangelical Christians come to Gavin's house to spread the good news.
02:55But after a short conversation with Gavin, they come to regret their decision.
03:00Well, we're leaving now, and we're not ever coming back.
03:03Ever coming back.
03:04Okay, you're my new best friends.
03:05No, we are not your new best friends.
03:07Okay, bye.
03:08If you've ever been hassled by these types, it's satisfying to see the evangelicals squirm after meeting their obnoxious match.
03:15Number seven. 30 Helens.
03:17Another recurring segment from the show involved a group of 30 women named Helen.
03:21And the group was diverse in age, race, and height, among other traits.
03:2630 Helens agree.
03:29Hawaii was better before.
03:33A narrator would say 30 Helens agree on a given subject, like it was a commercial where 4 out of 5 dentists recommend a product.
03:41While the group of Helens would stand out in the middle of a field.
03:44Collectively, they would weigh in on topics that ranged from the significance of coleslaw, to when it is the appropriate time to show photos of your children.
03:5330 Helens agree.
03:55There's a time and a place to show photos of your kids.
03:59These segments were completely random, yet strangely pleasant in the way the Helens gently expressed their opinions.
04:09As for which one's the best segment, when 30 Helens come together, you can't go wrong.
04:14If you want to remember something, write it down.
04:19That's what pens are for.
04:2230 Helens agree.
04:23Number six. Dr. Seuss Bible.
04:26Given all the translations of the Bible there are out there, it was only a matter of time before someone came up with this ingenious Dr. Seuss version.
04:34One day God said, this is what I will do.
04:36I'll send down my son, I'll send him to you.
04:40To clear up this humpity bumpity hullabaloo.
04:43His name will be Christ and he'll never wear shoes.
04:46His pals will all call him the King of the Jews.
04:49For the concept alone, this is one of the greatest sketches in comedy history.
04:53In the sketch, Dave Foley, dressed up like the cat in the hat, narrates the gospel in Seussian rhyme.
05:03When this first season sketch aired, it was completely cut out in the Canadian broadcast, and was only shown once on HBO.
05:13Full of whimsical blasphemy, this sketch is the kids in the hall at their irreverent best.
05:24Number five. Chicken Lady.
05:26Played by Mark McKinney, the Chicken Lady was originally created as a last-minute addition to the sketch about a freak show performer who could bleed through his nose at will.
05:35A human-chicken hybrid, this grotesque character with a high-pitched voice is the stuff of nightmares.
05:42What are you looking at?
05:43The show's on the stage.
05:44Yeah, you need six tickets if you want to stare at me.
05:47She's frisky and has her mind in the gutter, creeping out those around her.
05:51So do you like the place?
05:52Oh yeah, sure, it's really nice. I can't stay.
05:55Sure you can!
05:58Have a seat.
05:59There are several great sketches featuring this character to choose from, but we're gonna go with the one where Chicken Lady works a phone sex line.
06:06So, uh, what do you look like?
06:09Well, I'm six feet tall, with lots of charm and a charm bracelet, and a bee, and chicken's feet and big brown eyes.
06:17And I'm wearing a house dress with nothing on underneath, because I'm hot, hot for you!
06:23It is over-the-top and completely shameless.
06:27Number four. Love and Sausages.
06:29Rather than going for an easy laugh, this ambitious sketch took off in an experimental direction, resembling a short film.
06:37The unique style is something fans have come to appreciate.
06:41Love and Sausages is surreal and bleak in tone, like something out of a Terry Gilliam film,
06:46with Bruce McCullough playing a sausage factory employee living in squalor in a working-class neighborhood.
06:51While working in the factory, he fantasizes about a co-worker that he wants to help.
07:03Scott Thompson turns in a strange performance as an elderly person under McCullough's care, who obsesses over sausages.
07:11I need more sausages!
07:15I'm sorry.
07:17I like sausages!
07:19Number three. Buddy is Canadian.
07:22Kids in the Hall was known for its LGBTQ plus themes in its sketches and characters,
07:27and Buddy Cole is the most prominent example.
07:29Most people think that I'm from the States.
07:32And even worse, they think that I'm from New York, because I'm so sexy.
07:39Played by Scott Thompson, Buddy Cole is an openly gay man who is flamboyant in his mannerisms and his rants.
07:45When I'm overseas and people mistake me for an American,
07:49I'm as outraged as when I'm mistaken for straight.
07:53The character has struck such a chord with fans that he crossed over to guest star on the Colbert Report,
07:59as a correspondent for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi.
08:03Of the sketches featuring this character,
08:05our favorite has to be the one where Buddy talks about being Canadian.
08:08His take on America's understanding of Canada is especially spot on.
08:13Americans know as much about Canada as straight people do about gays.
08:19Number two. Citizen Kane.
08:21In this sketch, one friend, played by Dave Foley, is telling another friend, played by Kevin MacDonald,
08:26about a movie he saw the other night that he can't remember the name of.
08:30It's a classic. It's a real, it's a classic. It's, um, uh, oh, I hate this. I hate it when this happens.
08:34What was it about?
08:35When Foley's character starts describing the movie,
08:38it's obvious the movie he was describing was the 1941 Orson Welles masterpiece Citizen Kane.
08:44But he stubbornly refuses to admit it.
08:47This is definitely Citizen Kane then. You're talking about Citizen Kane.
08:49No, no, no, but it's, it's something like that.
08:53It's fun to see MacDonald's character lose his mind at how stubborn his friend is.
08:58And Foley keeps offering different possible movies that don't fit his description.
09:03No, no, I just told you it's about this newspaper tycoon.
09:06He had a sled named Rosebud and, uh, and they're all trying to figure out...
09:09Then I guess it wasn't Psycho, was it?
09:12No, it wasn't Psycho.
09:13It was Citizen Kane.
09:14No.
09:14For anyone who's had a stupid argument with a friend, this sketch is the worst case scenario.
09:20Before we unveil our top pick, here are some honorable mentions.
09:24Parenting.
09:25A press release many parents would like to give.
09:28That we are disappointed both in our child and in the experience of parenting.
09:35The King.
09:36Kevin MacDonald's character in the sketch is just the worst.
09:39You were supposed to meet me at the restaurant at 8 o'clock. Where were you?
09:44Slip my mind.
09:46But I feel horrible about the whole thing.
09:48No! I don't want to hear it!
09:50You're the king of empty promises, you know that, man?
09:52Open letter.
09:53Bruce makes some good points in this monologue.
09:56Well, why did you do it?
09:58Are you some sort of jerk or something?
10:02It's my friend, Weo.
10:04What'd you think?
10:05Did I drive home and not notice it was stolen?
10:07Daddy drank.
10:08This sketch where a man recounts his lousy childhood is filled with dark humor.
10:13And remember, I can murder you while you sleep.
10:18It's easy, son. All you have to be is quiet and willing to do it.
10:23Girl drank drunk.
10:25Delightfully absurd sketch where Dave Foley gets taken down by girly drinks.

10:48Number 1. Head Crusher
10:52For those of you who write in the comments that this list would be invalid if Head Crusher wasn't number 1, you're right.
10:58Hey, everybody.
11:01Don't panic.
11:03I mean, I'm only crushing your head.
11:06Perhaps the most known recurring character from Kids in the Hall is Head Crusher.
11:11And whenever a sketch pops up with this character, the audience applauds enthusiastically because the character is silly fun.
11:17Will I put my money in my mattress? Will I put my money in my wallet? You're boring me. I'm crushing your head. I'm crushing your head.
11:25Played by Mark McKinney, this strange man looks at people who go past him and he puts two fingers together and pretends he's crushing their heads with sadistic glee.
11:34However, in one sketch, he comes across a rival who does something similar and the two square off because there can be only one.
11:42I'll crush your head.
11:44I'm pinching your face.
11:47Hey, I'm over here. I'm pinching your...
11:51Oh, missed. Missed. Missed again.
11:54Do you agree with our picks?
