00:00You know, sometimes it takes a loss to bring your life into focus and figure out actually what your goals are.
00:13And I came back to the dressing room and I sat there and I sat there and I sat there.
00:19An hour must have went by and I looked down and I haven't even unlaced my shoes yet.
00:25I thought about a lot of things.
00:28I thought about Tommy Dreamer.
00:31And I know I've told you people this before.
00:33There's nobody in this world that tries any harder than that guy right there.
00:38And we're all his fans and no matter how satisfied we are with him, he just always wants to do a little bit better.
00:47He's got the right name and that Dreamer name.
00:50He reminds me of somebody a long, long, long time ago.
00:55That person he reminds me of is my father, Dory Funk Sr., who was also a professional wrestler.
01:03And in 1973, he was in his 50s and he had this dream.
01:10He wanted to be champion.
01:13And that was what he wanted to do all of his life.
01:16He wanted to be the world's champion.
01:18Wrestling was his life.
01:20And that was an important thing to him.
01:24But it never happened.
01:29The reason it didn't happen, because in 1973, June of that year, my father had a massive heart attack while he was wrestling.
01:38And my brother and I rushed him to the hospital.
01:41And on the way to the hospital, he says, how much further do I have to go?
01:46And I looked at him and I knew he was in a lot of pain.
01:49I said, not much further, Dad, just a couple more miles.
01:52And he said, Dad, gum it.
01:54He said, I can't make it.
01:55I'm going.
01:56Well, those were his last words.
01:59And whenever those were his last words, I figured that the Lord had good reason to take him.
02:07And he did take him.
02:09And it was the saddest day in my brother and my life.
02:13And it will be the saddest day in my life probably forever.
02:18Now, 24 years later, here I am trying to figure out my goals after a loss.
02:29And what my goal is right now is that I guess I'm a dreamer, too.
02:36I want to be world's champion.
02:38I know if I get in the ring against that ECW champion, if I can get in there against Raven, I know that I can beat him.
02:49I just feel it.
02:51And why do I want to do it?
02:53I thought about that, too.
02:55I want to do it for all you hardcore fans out there.
02:59I want to do it for all of us old farts to prove that we don't have one foot in the grave.
03:06But most of all, I want to do it to fulfill my father's dreams.
03:11That's what I want to do is fulfill his dreams.
03:15Now, I know that I can't guarantee a victory.
03:18But, dadgummit, I can guarantee that I'm not going to give up.
03:22And I'm not going to quit.
03:24And I want to just keep on going.
03:26And if I can get him in the match, a championship match, and if I can beat him, and they present me with that belt, I don't want to stand out there and say I did it my way.
03:45I want to invite every one of you ECW fans that are in the arena that night to come in the arena and stand with me.
04:01And I want us to hold our arms in the air, and I want to invite anybody that's watching it on television to hold their arms in the air and say, we did it our way.
04:14Not like the WWF, we did it our way.
04:19Not like the WCW, we did it our way.
04:24Not like AAA, New Japan, All Japan, FMW, we did it our way.
04:32Not like the ultimate fighting organizations, we did it our way.
04:37And what is our way?
04:42That's the ECW way.
04:45And what is the ECW way?
04:49It's the only way because it's the most physical, dangerous form of wrestling in the world today, bar none.
05:02We did it our way because we love it that way.
05:07We love it that way.
