00:00A 9-1-1 call came in from a resident that lived within the neighborhood in North Oak
00:13Cliff stating that shots were fired and they observed a man running to a black vehicle and
00:24driving away. Officers arrive at the scene. We find Mr. Faith lying in the middle of the street,
00:35a middle-aged executive at American Airlines. What could he have done to elicit this type of
00:40response? Very shocking, very shocking. From the jump, this was a very unusual incident.
00:49This video provided by a neighbor shows a threatening man. He's seen walking past a home holding an axe.
01:19The scenario that was given to us was that the victim, Mr. Faith, and his wife had just left
01:26their home to go walk their dog. And the suspect pulls up
01:32and shoots Mr. Faith eight times in the middle of the street.
01:38There was three gunshot wounds to the torso, three to the chest area,
01:52one in the head, and also one shot to the groin area.
01:57One of the things that stood out to us the most was the gunshot wound to the groin.
02:02It's the ultimate low blow. You've accomplished what you need to accomplish by shooting them in the
02:07head. But the shot to the groin is kind of, in my opinion, with someone getting the last laugh.
02:14You immediately start brainstorming and trying to think, what is the motive behind this?
02:20What really happened here?
02:23There was one witness that heard the gunshots.
02:29He walked out to the street to see what was going on. And he saw a person holding a gun,
02:34walking towards him in his direction. But the shooter got in his vehicle and drove off without
02:40any words or any kind of conflict.
02:45One of the things that the witness was able to do was to provide us with some detail about the
02:50suspect. It was a medium-sized male wearing a blue mask. And to snap a photograph of the truck as it was
02:57driving away. Who would have done this to Jamie? Because whoever is on the other end of that gun
03:03needs to go to jail and they need to go to jail as soon as possible.
03:08At this point, the picture is the best thing that we have.
03:11The man lying dead on the street, Jamie Faith, had married Jennifer after her first marriage
03:26broke down. The couple moved to this quiet neighborhood when he was promoted at work.
03:41This case really got a lot of attention because this was an ordinary couple living in a nice
03:51neighborhood with good jobs. We were pretty much on top of this from the very beginning.
03:57We found out that they had been together for 15 years. They met on a blind date and they had just
04:04celebrated their 15-year anniversary the night before this murder. They had a
04:11single child, a daughter, Amber, who was Jennifer's biological daughter. And then when she turned 18,
04:18she asked Jamie to adopt her legally and he did so very willingly and they adored each other.
04:26All indications were that this was a very loving relationship. By all accounts, they were very happy,
04:32leading a great life.
04:37Jamie had a great job and was making very good money.
04:42What could he have done to elicit this type of response?
04:47Did he owe someone some money? Did he steal money? Was he having an affair? Maybe gambling debts?
04:55I'm wondering, like, what could this guy have been involved in? It just really gripped the imagination of people.
05:01First and foremost, you want to figure out what is the motive. Mr. Faith was a middle-aged executive
05:09at American Airlines, certainly did not fit the profile of someone who would be an intended target
05:15or normally who would be a victim of homicide. The first thing is to try to obtain video of
05:25the vehicle to determine its route of travel out of the neighborhood.
05:29Time is absolutely of the essence because from the time that the initial officers and investigators
05:36make the scene, we're behind the eight ball because the suspect has fled in a vehicle.
05:41Within a half an hour, you know, he could be 40, 50 miles outside of Dallas.
05:48While we were canvassing the neighborhood looking for footage, we found a neighbor that had video
05:55footage that had a black Nissan pickup truck driving by.
06:00The video was good, but it wasn't good enough to get the details of the license plate or to get a picture
06:08of the shooter's face. One of the things that was very helpful was that in the right rear glass
06:15of the vehicle, there was a white T sticker. We thought that that was representing the Texas Rangers
06:24baseball team, which is home here in Arlington, Texas. So that sort of narrows your focus.
06:32Our job is to kind of figure out where the truck went next.
06:36It was almost like looking for a needle in a haystack.
06:49What we have here is an image that was captured by a neighbor
06:52of the suspect's truck fleeing the scene after the shooting.
06:59The white T decal on the back of the truck is the key to finding this vehicle.
07:04And the old way would have been just keeping an eye out for it. Nowadays,
07:09we have a lot cooler tools to be able to find a vehicle like this.
07:15Cameras constantly scan and take pictures of vehicles just like this truck.
07:20And the database can be searched by make and model. Investigators can look for Nissan Titans that were
07:26scanned in this area and very quickly narrow it down by looking for that white T decal in the back window.
07:36While officers search for the black Nissan pickup truck, detectives talk to the victim's wife, Jennifer.
07:42This is a tragedy. I couldn't imagine what you're going through right now.
07:48But hopefully, you know, we can get out to the bottom of this together, okay?
07:51My first impression of Jennifer was she was very distraught.
07:55Jennifer's account of what happened that morning was they had exited their front door
08:09with their dog, and 15 to 20 feet away from their front door, they were confronted by a mass gunman.
08:16And he just kept going. And the girl was just stopping.
08:19And the girl was just stopping.
08:21And the...
08:24And the...
08:25And the...
08:25And the...
08:25And the shot with the...
08:26And my husband's expression.
08:29And I started...
08:30And I yelled, no!
08:31And he tackled me.
08:33To the...
08:34To the girl.
08:35And he did.
08:37And he was hitting my face.
08:39And kept trying to turn me over.
08:41And he hit my side and back and hitting.
08:46And then tried to take my rings.
08:49And then, um...
08:52He pulled out a roll of duct tape.
08:53And he tied my tape on my hands.
08:56And I remember screaming.
08:57And I was just looking.
08:59And it shamed me.
09:00And it was just coming.
09:02And I was screaming.
09:08Help me.
09:10Help me.
09:11Help me.
09:12Jennifer said at that point,
09:13neighbors started coming out.
09:14Which startled the shooter.
09:17And he ran to his truck and left.
09:19Did you see what he had on?
09:21I remember a bright blue surgical mask.
09:24Mm-hmm.
09:25And everything else was just dark.
09:28All I could see were his eyes.
09:29Like, evil.
09:31Jennifer had several red marks on her arm
09:34where she was grabbed.
09:36Also, I believe she had marks on the side of her face,
09:38as well, where she was struck.
09:39We just were unsure as to why she wasn't shot as well.
09:43Why do you choose to shoot and kill Mr. Faith in such an extreme manner,
09:49and all you do is put some duct tape around Jennifer's hands and flee the scene?
09:54We kind of went back and forth as to what this could have been about.
10:02We didn't know if someone was waiting on him.
10:03Or if this was just a crime of opportunity, being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
10:14Could this have been a disgruntled employee?
10:16We thought it may have been more of an emotional thing with the actual growing shot.
10:25They were there to kill him.
10:28But we didn't know why, and I think that that was the, you know, the biggest question that we had.
10:32Jamie was really, really well-liked in their neighborhood.
10:49Everyone said that he was the nicest, kindest person.
10:53They were just in disbelief that he could have been targeted this way.
11:00We found several videos, some from businesses, some from residences.
11:14They were able to track the vehicle through the Oak Cliff neighborhood up until it reached I-35,
11:23which is a very busy freeway that runs through Dallas.
11:27It made a couple of erratic turns throughout the neighborhood,
11:32I believe, to see if someone was following him.
11:34And then he turned onto a service road, which led to him getting on the highway and traveling eastbound.
11:42But we lost it after it got on the freeway because there was no cameras on that route.
11:49Once we lost track of the vehicle, the trail had essentially gone cold.
11:58We didn't have a license plate.
11:59We don't have a clear description of who our shooter is.
12:02And so the only thing we have is just a basic description of this truck.
12:06And it's the only evidence that we have linking us to our killer.
12:09When detectives get the autopsy report, it deepens the mystery.
12:22One of the things we look at is shot placement, and the placement of the shots were pretty close together.
12:27It appeared as if someone had some experience with using a firearm.
12:33But we definitely believe it wasn't their first time shooting.
12:39And I remember when I spoke to Detective Barnes about it, my first, I think, comment to him was,
12:44man, something's up with this.
12:46This is not right.
12:47And he agreed.
13:03We did go back to Jennifer's house because she had several cameras mounted to her house.
13:08And we wanted to take a closer look to see if there was some minor detail that we missed.
13:18The doorbell footage that I watched of Jamie and Jennifer, it really, you know,
13:25kind of hit home because he had no idea of what was around the corner waiting on him.
13:29It was just a normal day, early in the morning, just trying to get the wheels turning for the day.
13:34And then, you know, a few steps later, you're being murdered in front of your wife.
13:41And it just kind of hit home that you never can be too comfortable.
13:48Detectives also examine footage retrieved from the neighbor's house.
13:53What happened?
13:54You can hear very distinctly there's a yell or someone yells, hey.
13:59And I believe that it was either two people.
14:02It was either Jamie yelling, hey, because he saw this masked gunman approaching.
14:07Or it was the shooter yelling, hey, to get Jamie's attention.
14:11And then we hear a barrage of gunshots, just one after the other.
14:14Very violent, very rapid, just one right after the other.
14:19And then we hear Jennifer yelling.
14:27Her yells on that video are just like, just, you can hear it coming from like the pit of her stomach.
14:33She's just, just scared of her life.
14:35And she's also just sickened from seeing her husband being killed in front of her.
14:38So you can see this resident, when he comes out his front door, he's immediately looking to the right.
14:51His dogs are interested in whatever's happening to the right.
14:54And you can hear a female screaming.
14:56And then you can hear this homeowner yelling, what happened?
15:07I want to enhance the audio so I can hear better what's happening with those faint screams in the distance.
15:14And see if there's anything more being said.
15:17Any more evidence that we can extract from that faint audio in the distance.
15:21In the spectrographic view of this recording, the bright yellow and orange represent a higher amplitude, a higher volume.
15:33Those represent the male coming outside and yelling what happened.
15:37Those are going to be the brightest portions because those are the loudest.
15:41I'm interested in the more faint audio that's represented by the darker orange,
15:45the parts in between these louder sections where the female can be heard screaming.
16:03So it's possible that the female is yelling, call the police here.
16:10It's hard because there's not a lot of detail in this audio,
16:13because she is so far away from the microphone.
16:17But most of it sounds like unintelligible screaming.
16:21But at this point, she may be saying, call the police.
16:24It certainly gives the appearance that she didn't know what was about to happen.
16:28She was legitimately in distress that she had just watched her husband be killed.
16:34As investigators search through surveillance camera videos, they find one clip recorded the morning Jamie was killed, which looks suspicious.
16:50There was a camera on the side of her house that was pointing towards her neighbor's backyard.
16:54And around 2 or 3 a.m., there was a male walking around the backyard, just kind of wandering around.
17:04We were unable to see his face, just because of the combination of the darkness and also the angle of the camera.
17:10The immediate thoughts were, this could be our suspect.
17:16But Jennifer gave a very good explanation of who it was.
17:22She said that she believed it was the guy that used to live next door to her, her old neighbor.
17:27And he, from time to time, after they got invictive, time to time, he would just wander around the backyard of that residence.
17:37One of the things that you learn in working murder investigations is like a roller coaster.
17:43At this point in time, everything hasn't led to anything, so we're still working around the clock to figure this thing out.
17:53One of the things we did was ask for Jennifer's cell phone.
17:57We wanted to make sure that we covered all our bases, and checking her cell phone was one of them.
18:05I believe she was a little surprised that we asked for it, but she gave it over.
18:09She passed it over without any question.
18:11It would have been a huge red flag for her not to pass her phone over.
18:19When the results come back from a forensic analysis of the phone,
18:22it gives detectives their first serious break.
18:29Once a forensic download was done, we were able to go back through some of her old messages,
18:34and we found a text message thread between her and one of her girlfriends.
18:38And in the text messages, there was a conversation in which Jennifer said
18:42she reconnected with a high school sweetheart over email named Darren Lopez.
18:51There was no communication on the phone with Darren, just old text messages with her girlfriend.
18:57We believe that those may have possibly been deleted.
19:04We intentionally didn't speak with Jennifer about Darren,
19:07because we believed that we needed to learn a little bit more about the relationship before we approached her on it.
19:13So we wanted to keep everything under wraps while we continued the investigation.
19:16We certainly want to follow this lead, just like we follow any leads, as quickly as possible.
19:25Detectives subpoena all of the messages on Jennifer's phone, hoping to retrieve the ones that were deleted.
19:33We wanted to see how far back they began communicating with each other,
19:37and if they were communicating around the time of the murder.
19:40The information comes back on Jennifer's phone.
19:46Unfortunately, detectives are unable to access the content of her messages with Darren.
19:53But they are able to see how many they exchanged.
19:57There were an extraordinary amount of text messages between Darren Lopez and Jennifer Faith.
20:06And when I say extraordinary, I mean extraordinary.
20:12So it turned over 122,000 text messages and phone calls between Darren and Jennifer.
20:19Only occurred over like a seven or eight month period.
20:24I mean, that's like constant communication.
20:27I mean, how could you be in touch with someone this many times?
20:32There was an extensive background done on Mr. Lopez.
20:42We found out that Mr. Lopez was a U.S. Army veteran, that he was a combat veteran, that he had had several deployments to the Middle East,
20:52that he had been injured in combat, and that he had won several awards for his valor as an Army soldier.
21:07He was very badly injured, saw his comrades killed in a roadside bomb,
21:12was permanently disabled, with a traumatic brain injury, also suffering from PTSD.
21:22He was in a very dark place.
21:24Detectives need to take a closer look at Lopez.
21:30But he lives more than 600 miles from Dallas, in remote Cumberland Furnace, Tennessee.
21:35I was able to reach out to the Nashville Field Division and ask for assistance with doing surveillance.
21:44They got great aerial footage of Darren's property.
21:48One of the agents that was involved in coordinating a flyover got a still photo from the pilot,
21:56and he sent it to me immediately, and I couldn't believe it.
21:58Parked in the driveway of Darren's residence was a black Nissan Titan pickup truck with a white T-emblem on the rear windshield.
22:11Our initial knee-jerk reaction is we wanted to go slap some cuffs on him.
22:15But the truth was, we didn't know who was driving the truck.
22:18If this was in fact our vehicle, we still needed to put Darren in the driver's seat to connect him to Dallas,
22:24or to figure out where he was when the murder took place.
22:28Jennifer Faith decided to reach out to the local news media and did a story.
22:45And in her interview, she was sort of critical of the Dallas Police Department,
22:50indicated that she didn't feel that they were doing enough to investigate Jamie's death.
22:58She appeared to be very distraught and concerned about the investigation.
23:08It is an unusual move on her part to sort of take a stab at the investigators.
23:17We sent out search warrants for Google, and we were able to see that one of Darren's devices,
23:26which we believe to be a tablet, was used to navigate from his address in Cumberland Furnace, Tennessee,
23:34to Jennifer's address in Dallas, Texas.
23:37To be able to put him in Cumberland Furnace, navigating his vehicle with Google Maps, driving step by step,
23:45hitting every single cell tower from Cumberland Furnace to Dallas, hours before Jamie walked out of his house, was big.
23:54This data, together with the thousands of texts with Jennifer, is enough to get a warrant to arrest Darren Lopez.
24:01ATF flew approximately 40 to 50 members from the Dallas Field Division and also members from the Nashville Field Division.
24:13The way we looked at it, the more people that we had there, the less likely we were to use force.
24:18We know from a tactical perspective, that given Mr. Lopez's military history and his background,
24:24that this is someone who needs to be approached very cautiously.
24:27However, things didn't go down as we had planned.
24:32While we were briefing, one of the tactical team members said,
24:37hey, Darren's just got in a vehicle, he's leaving his property.
24:40Now that he's mobile, that means that we have to try to do a mobile takedown operation while he's
24:53operating a 4,000-pound vehicle. There's a high possibility that he's got a firearm in his vehicle.
24:59We don't know if he knows that we're looking for him, but there are so many unknowns
25:05and so many things that could go wrong that we have to be really careful how we approach this from
25:12a tactical perspective.
25:17Darren was followed by the tactical team members for several miles.
25:20He pulled in a parking lot, and once he pulled in a parking lot, they assaulted the vehicle.
25:27Maintaining the element of surprise and took him into custody without incident.
25:31It was a relief, absolutely a relief.
25:37We searched the property. The front of the house was surrounded by a wooden porch.
25:46And right at the entrance to the kitchen was an empty FedEx box that had an address label on it
25:57that was addressed to Darren Lopez. And the return address was Jennifer Faith.
26:03So before we even got in the house, there was evidence of their relationship.
26:10Why is she sending this fella a big screen TV? It sort of has us asking more questions
26:16than are being answered. The search was challenging because the residence was in complete disarray.
26:27It was quite alarming. It sort of gave us some insight that things were not right with Mr. Lopez
26:36because the living conditions were horrible.
26:42As agents searched the inside of their house, they found a green military backpack.
26:48Inside the backpack was a Red Bull DVD and also a silver firearm that appeared to have blood on the slide.
26:57The gun was significant for two reasons. The caliber of the firearm initially matched the caliber
27:05of the shell casings recovered at the crime scene. Also, there was physical blood on the firearm.
27:10Once we got the pickup truck in our custody, the one thing that stood out was that the decal was
27:18no longer on the rear windshield. The T was no longer there, but you could see marks on the glass
27:25where someone used a razor blade to scrape it off. So we knew that there was a T at some point on the vehicle.
27:34Detectives also searched inside the pickup.
27:37We found a cell phone and we found a backpack. In that backpack was a blue mask that was similar
27:47to the mask that was worn by the shooter during the time of the murder. I felt at that point that
27:53we definitely had the right person. We make the phone call to the troops in Dallas. We got him. Go pick up Jennifer.
28:07As you know, I'm trying to get down to the bottom of this investigation. Okay.
28:19At the time that Jennifer came down to the station, she had no clue that Darren had been arrested.
28:23Jennifer said that her and Darren had been in this, uh, they had reconnected and they had been
28:41communicating, but they were nothing more than friends and that Jamie was aware of it.
28:45Jennifer, if I were to tell you, as far as like, I know that there's more to you and Darren's relationship.
28:53You know, what would you say about that? I don't know what more you do. I don't know what more
28:59you're talking about. I believe that you knew what happened that day.
29:06I really do. We showed her a photo of Darren,
29:12where he's wearing the blue mask, putting gas inside the black pickup truck,
29:18at which time she was informed that Darren was the individual responsible for killing Jamie.
29:23I don't know what to tell you. Instead of her saying, oh my God, this is the guy. Oh my God,
29:29I can't believe he's involved in this. She wanted to know, where did we get the photo?
29:33We sat there and we told the world. We told everybody. We sat in front of his parents. We
29:41told them. But the same guy that killed your husband, Jennifer, is the same guy that you, you're
29:48communicating with every day. You had over 24,000 sex distancing calls. 24,000. I don't work. He's
29:55retired. We talked throughout the day. Jennifer, besides the point, this guy killed your husband.
30:01How do you know that? Because I have proof. And guess what? Darren right now is currently in jail,
30:09locked up for murder right now. Oh my God. So my main thing is right now. What is he going to tell me?
30:17Okay. Why would somebody, why would he kill this guy? I don't know. It doesn't even make sense.
30:23We haven't even seen each other. Jennifer was very, uh, very aggressive in her tone from that point on.
30:32Do I need a lawyer at this point? It's your call. Whatever you decide.
30:35I think that she felt like she had been played. She's like, man, these guys got me down here
30:45playing the victim. They played this thing up. They got me here. Now they're slapping me in the face
30:50with this picture of Darren. We have a lot of pieces to the puzzle now. We have our suspect in custody.
30:59We have a lot of forensic evidence. However, probably one of the most crucial pieces to the puzzle is that
31:08we still don't know why Jamie was targeted.
31:15What is it that Jamie Faith did to provoke such a violent act from someone who seemingly
31:22he has no relationship with and doesn't know?
31:29We knew that Jennifer may have had a role in offense. We just couldn't prove it.
31:34We have to keep digging and the investigation goes on.
31:40While Jennifer is released without charge, Darren Lopez awaits trial in jail.
31:48Then, in a twist, Lopez's ex-wife contacts the police, saying she has evidence that Jamie was sending
32:05Lopez emails before the murder.
32:08Their content is dark.
32:18Darren's ex-wife gave us information regarding emails and involving Jamie and Darren.
32:28She believed there was something that the police needed and she called right away and provided me
32:32with screenshots. In the screenshots, there were several emails that appeared to be sent by Jamie
32:39to Darren and they detailed sexual encounters with Jennifer.
32:45The content that was being uncovered was particularly disturbing.
32:51Jamie was bringing multiple men into the home to commit acts of sexual assault,
32:57that she was being beaten, that she was being held down against her will.
33:03It was very, very dark and twisted in its nature.
33:10The emails got more and more violent. The sexual acts got more and more dangerous.
33:17When I read these emails that were sent to Darren, they were really sordid and kind of chilling in a way.
33:26It painted a portrait of someone who was like a sadist, who had these like sadistic sexual fantasies,
33:33you know, very lurid details about the violent things that he would do to her, you know,
33:38that he would have men come by and rape her and watch this and, you know, that he wanted
33:44Darren to see this. It seemed like a really twisted mind that would come up with something like this.
33:50Did these emails seemingly from Jamie provoke Darren to kill him?
33:59You know, when I think about Darren now, you know, he's got a reason to show up and kill a guy
34:05in the morning while he's taking a walk. Mr. Faith certainly didn't fit the profile of a violent
34:13sexual predator. You know, from the aspect of being Jamie, I'm an executive with American Airlines.
34:22You know, I have a high profile job. If one of these emails were leaked, I could lose everything.
34:27So it doesn't make sense for me to document it and put it in an email to someone who's going to be
34:32upset by me sending. So it didn't, it just didn't pass the smell test. I had suspicions as to who was
34:38sending these emails, but I had no way of proving it at the time.
34:41Detectives get the forensic results from Lopez's cell phone retrieved from his pickup.
34:52While Jennifer had deleted their texts, they discover that Lopez hadn't.
34:58The lab called and said, hey, we were able to access the phone. So we had access to weeks and
35:03weeks worth of text messages between Darren and Jennifer.
35:05It told us everything we needed to know about who was who in that relationship.
35:13Jennifer was the one, she was the boss.
35:19She was telling Darren, hey, I need you to remove the, the decal off of the truck.
35:24Let me know when you get it done.
35:28So he texts back, okay, it's done.
35:31It is becoming more and more apparent that there is a manipulation scheme afoot,
35:40that Jennifer is feeding Darren this information to possibly entice him or to convince him to kill
35:51Mr. Faith.
35:51We did a financial snapshot of Darren just to figure out what was his financial outlook.
36:01He was several months behind on his mortgage and his home was going through foreclosure.
36:09So he was at a very desperate place financially.
36:12Once we looked into Jennifer's bank accounts, we saw that she had made several transfers to Darren.
36:20Also, she had provided him with a credit card that had a $40,000 credit limit that she paid off.
36:26So it had a zero balance.
36:28So Jennifer had more than just an emotional involvement in this case.
36:34She also was the brains behind a lot of things.
36:37She directed Darren how to not get caught.
36:40She also was financially supporting him.
36:43So if he did get caught, now he has an allegiance to her.
36:47So I felt like it was a whole lot of like mental manipulation going on.
36:55With these texts, it's enough evidence to arrest Jennifer.
36:59We went early one morning and knocked on her front door.
37:06We immediately placed her in handcuffs.
37:10She acted surprised and asked what we were doing there, why she was being arrested.
37:18And I said, you're being arrested because you were involved in killing your husband.
37:22And she gave me just a deadpan look and said, I had nothing to do with killing Jamie.
37:31We don't have the evidence to charge her with murder.
37:33But we believe that she definitely was the reason ultimately behind Darren removing the decal from the vehicle.
37:39So we charged her with tampering with evidence.
37:43Jennifer is taken into custody.
37:45Meanwhile, the police and DA, who've been building the case against Lopez, get the forensic results on his gun.
37:59Fortunately for us, we get a ballistic match, essentially telling us that the firearm is in fact the same firearm that was used to commit the murder.
38:12In addition to that, and sort of the icing on the cake, is that a DNA swab is taken of the frame.
38:20And that smudge of blood that was recovered from the frame of the firearm matches Jamie Faith's DNA.
38:30Not only does it prove that that firearm was used to commit the murder,
38:36it shows what close proximity Mr. Lopez was to Mr. Faith when he shot him that the victim's blood
38:46splashed back and got on the firearm.
38:50Without a doubt, this is the gun used in a murder in Dallas.
38:55Darren is our killer.
38:56While the case against Lopez is strong, for now, all detectives have against Jennifer is that she tampered with evidence.
39:09The actions on the screen are, you know, they appear unremarkable.
39:14At first, there's a couple that appears to be going out to walk the dog.
39:18I just want to get a better look at this video as they walk away from the door.
39:24To me, it looks like he's almost trying to catch up to her, and she's not really waiting for him.
39:36She's not intending to just be walking next to him.
39:40She doesn't turn around to see where he is.
39:42She just keeps walking, and he appears to be trying to catch up to her.
39:47Once we know what's coming, that her boyfriend is about to murder this man,
39:57then it starts to make sense why she would be distancing herself from him right before this happens.
40:07The investigation takes another extraordinary turn.
40:10When Detective Barnes is contacted by Jennifer's previous husband.
40:17What he told us was that Jennifer tried to hire him to enlist him to kill someone for her
40:24several years prior to this.
40:27Jennifer gave him the story about her being sexually assaulted by a guy,
40:32and it was so graphic and just cold and brutal that he was so upset
40:39that he actually was, you know, thinking about committing a murder for her.
40:46But, you know, his sense kicked in, and he decided not to do it.
40:49And so when he heard about the narrative with Jamie and with Darren,
40:55it reminded him of his past encounter with her.
41:00I think my initial reaction was, you got to be kidding me.
41:06The forensic report comes in on the sexually explicit emails,
41:12supposedly from Jamie to Lopez.
41:15When they dug into those a little bit more to find out exactly who sent them,
41:21and that's when they found out they did not come from Jamie, they came from Jennifer.
41:27Jennifer is charged with arranging the hit on her husband.
41:30When Jennifer then was charged with, in connection with a murder for hire,
41:39being behind her own husband's murder,
41:41with seemingly no reason for wanting to do this,
41:45the community just, there were shockwaves of horror and surprise and disbelief.
41:56It just, it had a huge impact, and people could not believe it.
42:02It was betrayal upon betrayal.
42:04Before the judge gave her a sentence, as Jennifer approached, she was doing the whole crying, upset,
42:13tears, snot, running down her face.
42:16And the judge told her she could stop the act.
42:20That she was past the point of someone believing that she was sorry about anything that happened.
42:27Judge Boyle said, basically, you're pure evil and also disgusting.
42:32Um, and that is not what you want to hear from a judge when you're about to be sentenced.
42:41Jennifer is given life behind bars.
42:45There wasn't any emotion after that, and she was led away by the marshals,
42:49uh, shuffled away in chains, and that was it.
42:55To this day, I still rack my brain with, you know, trying to think up, like, you know,
43:00a reason for wanting to do this.
43:04She didn't have to worry about, you know, finances. They're financially independent.
43:09You know, I sometimes wonder, uh, you know, yeah, could she have just been bored?
43:14I don't think she was ever serious about having a life with Darren.
43:24Uh, that seemed to be complete artifice. She was very coldly and calculatingly using him.
43:31I believe for Jennifer, this all was a game.
43:38She found the right person that was suffering from, uh, mental illness and traumatic brain injury,
43:46and that she knew how exactly how to push his buttons to get him to kill.
43:50She is a disturbed individual, and maybe it was just for the hell of it to see if she could get away with it.
43:59To see if she could have that sort of control over someone to make him do what she wanted him to do.
44:09I have no sympathy for Jennifer Faith whatsoever.
44:13She got what she deserved, and she'll die in prison.
44:16When Darren Lopez goes to trial, he pleads not guilty.
44:23I mean, the prosecutor said that she weaponized Darren Lopez.
44:27She knew which buttons to press, um, what would get him riled up.
44:33He was, in a sense, a victim just like Jamie. He, he fought in combat, suffered a terrible injury.
44:40His life is falling apart, and now he, he feels, you know, he meets this old flame,
44:45and, you know, his spirits are high, and, uh, he thinks it'll lift him out of his depression.
44:50And then he finds out she's been manipulating him all along, and, uh, and, and now he's facing
44:56the loss of his freedom, uh, spending the rest of his life behind bars.
45:01Darren Lopez is found guilty of murdering Jamie Faith and sentenced to 62 years.
45:08When Jamie died, there was a life insurance policy as well as his retirement fund, uh, over a million
45:15dollars. And, uh, that entire estate was, uh, to be inherited by, uh, his daughter.
45:24Jennifer asked her daughter if she could put aside $200,000 for her prison account, which you use to
45:32buy toiletries, snacks, uh, things like that. And, you know, here she is, like, having admitted to,
45:40uh, taking Amber's father from her, uh, so cruelly. And, and she's asking her, oh, you know, some of
45:48this money that you're supposed to inherit from Jamie, by the way, I need $200,000 of it, uh, so I can
45:54live in comfort in prison.
45:55Darren, we saw what he was capable of doing as a killer. But I think the most dangerous
46:03people are the ones that can influence others to kill for them. And that was Jennifer.
46:09Jennifer 100% is a cold-blooded killer.
46:12In my 24 years in law enforcement, this was the most bizarre investigation I have ever been
46:20a part of. It's truly, in my entire law enforcement career, nothing like I have ever seen.
46:50Speaking ofór, Marc McBrisk told a whose일 about profit is more arb 13 million

47:01you haven't suffered. No one doesn't have no idea.
