00:00Ready for NASA and Leon was rafting in boron and his detective borax and boric acid.
00:11Hello and welcome to my channel. I'm Brad Bortle from Cougar Ridge Ranch call sign Captain Wingnut. Today, Dr. Bortle.
00:20In this video I'm going to give you a simple lecture on boron and its derivatives, mainly concentrating on boric acid.
00:26This is not a complete lecture on boron, but just a real simple lecture so that you'll understand the main derivative of boric acid and how we use it for insulin control and how it's used a lot in human health.
00:43You'd be surprised. Coming up. Be right back.
00:56Boron is the fifth element of the periodic table. It's a metalloid which is an intermediate element falling somewhere between the properties of metals and solid non-metals or solid detectors.
01:20It is found in small amounts on meteors.
01:27Chemically uncombined boron or pure boron is not found on Earth.
01:32It is extremely hard to produce due to its behavioristic properties.
01:36Borox laundry brightener is a derivative of boron.
01:40And boric acid, also called hydrogen borate, boracic acid, orthoboric acid, or sassalite, is made from borax.
01:50So, any element with boro in its name is derived from the master element boron.
01:56Boric acid is lethal to most insects in almost any quantity, but it must be eaten by the insect.
02:03The speculation is that insects just walk through it, can absorb it, and that absorption will kill them as well.
02:10But that's speculation.
02:11Grouping or colony insects are the most common and susceptible to boric acid poisoning, but most insects that eat it, even a tiny bit, will die.
02:22In just a moment, I'm going to tell you 23 different things that boric acid is used for, many in human health.
02:28Borax laundry booster and whitener is just as deadly to insects that are susceptible to boron poisoning, but boric acid is better as an insecticide because it is a finer grain.
02:42A 1% solution of boric acid, or borax, kills slowly and can kill entire colonies of grooming insects, while a 5% solution is ample to quickly kill it.
02:52Higher concentrations might repel insects from eating it due to its extremely bitter taste and smell.
03:11Boron poisoning in insects works by disrupting their digestion and nervous system, and the sharp crystals cut their exosinguitons as well.
03:20Current scientific tests show that boric acid will not kill ticks, bed bugs, mice, spiders, beetles, flies, fleas, or mons.
03:31Is it dangerous to humans?
03:33Again, folks, I'm going to let you use your own common sense here.
03:37I'll give you the data.
03:39An analysis from an independent testing firm, Chemical Regulatory Consulting, states,
03:43quote,
03:44Boric acid is only poisonous if taken internally or inhaled in large quantities, end quote.
03:50I'll put the link in the description.
03:53Rats were fed large quantities of boric acid compared to their body weight in a one-off 1994 study, PMC 1566645, and it didn't kill them.
04:04But the report noted that it did cause male reproductive issues.
04:09Female reproductive alarm wasn't noticed above the norms.
04:13The study was also a solo study.
04:15It was never replicated, so its findings are suspicious either way.
04:21Boric acid has been used externally and internally by humans for centuries.
04:26There are some alarmists, however, and it's a short handful, who point to this one solo study as proof that boric acid is poisonous.
04:36And, of course, Europe, and boric acid.
04:39I'm sorry for you guys in Europe.
04:41As I always say, use your own common sense.
04:44If you're 152 pounds and you can eat one pound boric acid, I think you might have a slight indigestion problem.
04:50But, likewise, eating one pound of pepper will probably give you an indigestion, if not kill you.
04:56Boric acid is getting a bad rap in the world of the day from alarmists, just like DDT and red dyeing alarmists did in the 70s and 80s.
05:05If you want to read my paper on that, I've left the link in the description below.
05:09Boric acid in the concentrations that I talk about and use in other insect killing videos on my channel are miniscule compared to the amounts that they rumored to be deadly.
05:20Common sense says you're pretty safe.
05:23And not just common sense, let me tell you this.
05:27Boric acid, borax, borum, is currently used worldwide for the following, and this is just a partial list, it is not a complete list by any means.
05:38I've posted this entire list in the description.
05:41One, yeast infections, vaginitis, and other bacterial and fungus ailments of the skin and organs.
05:50Two, eye drops.
05:52Boric acid has been common as an antibacterial in eye drops for centuries, just check the label.
05:57Three, ear drops.
05:58Boric acid is an effective antibiotic for the treatment of ear infections and pain relief.
06:05Are you ready for this one?
06:06Number four, cancer treatment.
06:09Articles published in prominent medical journals report the potential of boric acid in the treatment of certain cancers.
06:15Melanoma, breast, and prostate cancer studies have shown that boric acid can cause cancer cell apoptosis and prevent tumor growth.
06:25Apoptosis is a process by which abnormal cells are killed by the body and cancer cells are typically immune to apoptosis.
06:34But recent studies are showing that boric acid opens certain cancers to apoptosis.
06:43Number five, anti-complements.
06:45It kills candida fungus and it's used on fingernail and toenail fungus.
06:50It also kills more drug-resistant forms of the candida labrata fungus.
06:55Six, flea larva control in carpets.
06:59Just sprinkle a light dusting of boric acid on your carpet and it will kill flea larva.
07:04It won't kill adults, however, but it will kill any pigs that hatch.
07:09Seven, as a moment fungus killer.
07:13Mix a little boric acid and soap in water and use it as a cleaner.
07:17It'll kill mold and fungus which cause illness and allergies.
07:21It's a great shower cleaner.
07:24Eight, it's an antiseptic.
07:26Boric acid mixed in distilled water is a very effective antiseptic.
07:31Nine, cold sores.
07:34Boric acid ointment can shorten the cold sore infection by up to one third of the time.
07:42Ten, acne.
07:44Boric acid antibacterial properties make it very effective for acne breakouts.
07:50Some people use it pure, some use it in anointment.
07:52Eleven, fertilizer.
07:55It is a crucial nutrient for plant life.
07:58Twelve, boron itself comes over the counter in six milligram tablets and is used as a dietary supplement for boron deficiency and bone health, including osteoporosis.
08:10I've put a link to WebMD and their article on taking boron as a dietary supplement in the description.
08:19Thirteen, menstrual prints.
08:22Fourteen, athletic performance.
08:24Fifteen, laundry brightener.
08:26Sixteen, 14 metal and metal soldering and welding of metal.
08:30Seventeen, it's a flame retardant.
08:33Eighteen, it's a neuron absorber used in nuclear power plants.
08:38Nineteen, it's a catalyst in lead battery functions.
08:42Twenty, for treatment of chronic wounds.
08:46Twenty-one, it's used in the finishing of cotton fibers to make them beautiful.
08:51Twenty-two, it's a crucial element in cobalt electroplating.
08:55Twenty-three, jewelry metalworking.
08:57And this list goes on.
09:00I'm only going to stop right here.
09:01You can't believe how many uses boron is used for in the world today.
09:07Just a side note about why boric acid, boron, borax, is so effective in cockroach control.
09:15Cockroaches are colony insects.
09:20And they feed themselves, they feed others, they clean themselves, they clean others.
09:26No.
09:27And everything that they get, they pass along to everybody else.
09:31They're also cannibals, meaning they'll eat their own dead.
09:36So, using boric acid to kill roaches is cyclic, like this.
09:41A roach dies from exposure to boric acid.
09:45Another roach eats it, and is exposed to the same boric acid, and dies as well.
09:50Another roach eats it, and it will die as well.
09:53Since boric acid is kind of an alien element, it's found on fingers, it never degrades.
10:03And since it's always there, it's ready to kill any insect at any time.
10:08Any new foragers that wander in and find dead roaches, eat the dead roaches, and go back and feed their own colony what they just ate.
10:19And they die.
10:20I won't talk much more about boron, boric acid, borax, and its uses here, as I have other videos that I do that in, and teach you how to use boric acid to kill insects.
10:31Last thing about borax, if you use borax versus boric acid, just grind it into a fine powder for you to use it.
10:38It's easier to deal with and dose, and the insects are less likely to be repelled by its size, because it has a very bitter taste and smell.
10:48Okay, that's the end of this chapter. There will be a test on Friday.
10:51Thanks for watching. Don't forget to subscribe and click the, I don't know where it's at on here, click the bell so that you're notified when I release more videos.
11:01I've got a lot of videos in the pipeline that are going to come out very quickly, so subscribe and click the bell so that you find out when I'm releasing another video.
11:11And just let me say that I really enjoy making these videos for you and helping people learn.
11:16That was my profession, and I just enjoy it so much.
11:20This is Dr. Wardle, Brad Wardle, from Cougar Ridge Ranch, high in the U.N. Mountains of Eastern Utah.
11:25Call sign Captain Wingman, signing off.
11:29Remember, use your common sense.
11:38Alright, that was the end of the boron and boric acid for their tail.
11:44Alright, thank you so, so much, Nazo and Leon.
