00:00uh ohio certainly has been in the spotlight in 2025 for sports betting sometimes not for the
00:05right reasons two members of course are the cleveland guardians involved in a sports betting
00:08scandal and the governor of ohio at this point shared a regret i don't know if it alluded to
00:14necessarily about that but sports betting a hot topic no doubt yeah definitely some big news here
00:21craig a governor of a major state like ohio coming out a reporter this week asked him hey what's your
00:27biggest regret as governor and he point blank said legalizing sports betting rather signing the bill
00:33that legalized sports betting back in 2021 said he didn't realize how much advertising there was
00:40going to be he thought it was going to be sports books get people to sign up for their apps and
00:45they move on and he's firsthand seen the impact it's had uh at least on a couple young men in the state
00:52with uh the two cleveland guardians pitchers you mentioned craig uh he actually worked with major
00:57league baseball after that happened um he came out and said we need rules in place that prevent this
01:03kind of thing now whether these rules will prevent um you know pitch rigging or you know illicit behavior
01:11in sports from actually happening that's a different thing but what they came out and did was you know
01:17cap the micro bet pitch markets uh that were allegedly manipulated in this case so put some rules on that
01:24but he said he he wishes he didn't have to he's regrets it um not really offering a solution as to
01:30what to do now but definitely taking responsibility and you know it's no coincidence that this comes not
01:36just after that but after we had the college basketball uh point shaving indictment um just a few weeks
01:42ago and then i think kind of where this all started was in october you had the terry rozier stuff
01:47the chauncey billups stuff not only did that come out but the way it came out was so ceremonial where
01:52the fbi released had this huge press conference they called it like the you know the point rigging
01:57scandal of our time it was really done up a lot and quite frankly the only thing new that came out of
02:03that we already knew terry rozier was under investigation and the chauncey billups stuff was
02:08more about poker rigging than it was about you know game rigging but the reaction was i think now a lot
02:14of folks like governors of states where sports betting is legal are more kind of hesitant or
02:20regretful that they did it so yeah it's it's you know it's not great that all this stuff is happening
02:25and we'll see how it gets dealt with but again the governor is saying he really regrets it but
02:29you know we don't know where we go from here you know whether there's more reform or whether he does
02:34something or whether nothing happens i think that's very likely to
