00:00So this is a big one. With so many movies, TV shows, and holiday specials...
00:05The Star Wars canon is only going to get bigger from here on out.
00:10And this franchise means something different to everyone, which makes a list like this...
00:15Banking everything a truly imposing task, because I'm not going to please anyone.
00:20Hell, I might not even please half of you.
00:21Quite simply, we aren't going to agree on everything here.
00:24And you know what?
00:25I'd have it no other way.
00:26As long as the criticism is in good faith, I genuinely can't wait to see what...
00:30People would shop and change compared to the order that we've listed on here.
00:33And that's because...
00:35No matter what, I think we can all agree that Star Wars...
00:37It's bloody good, isn't it?
00:39So...
00:40With that in mind, I'm Josh from WhatCulture.com, and this is Star Wars Every Movie and TV Show...
00:45Ranked worst to best.
00:46Number 22, Star Wars Holiday Special.
00:49There are a few...
00:50Star Wars projects that are outright bad, but the Holiday Special is sadly one of them.
00:55The Holiday Travesty would be an understatement.
00:57In fact, it's such a vilified work of...
01:00Temporary insanity that George Lucas once famously said that he'd smash every copy with a...
01:05Sledgehammer if he had the chance.
01:07Directed by Stephen Binder, the 1978...
01:10TV Special takes place just after the events of A New Hope, and follows Han Solo...
01:15And Chewbacca as they race to visit the Wookiee's family whilst being pursued by the Empire.
01:19With...
01:20With its atrociously cheap sets and painfully uncomfortable performances, the Holiday Special...
01:25Really is as bad as it sounds.
01:27Featuring nonsense singalongs, half-formed characters...
01:30And the poor introduction of future franchise legend, Boba Fett.
01:34Number 21...
01:35The Ewok spin-offs.
01:36If there were any characters in the Star Wars universe who didn't need...
01:40Their own spin-offs, it probably would have to be the Ewoks who were first introduced in Return of the...
01:45Jedi.
01:45But in yet another spell of madness, Lucasfilm thought the idea should...
01:50So an animated series titled Ewoks and two made-for-TV movies, those being...
01:55The Caravan of Courage and the Battle of Endor were released between 1985 and 1980...
02:00And sadly again, aside from the Holiday Special, Star Wars as a...
02:05The franchise has never been more empty or meritless than this.
02:09Number 20...
02:09Drunk...
02:10Droids.
02:11Droids, also known as the Adventures of C-3PO and R2-D2...
02:15Was originally aired with its companion series Ewoks, and only just manages to rank higher than that...
02:20Atmosphere because it includes Anthony Daniels.
02:22With the same dull humour and technically unimpressive...
02:25Aesthetic...
02:26Droids is yet another wonky attempt to make a kids TV show by people...
02:30Who seem to have never interacted with a child or Star Wars before in...
02:35Their lives...
02:36In attempting to tell audiences what 3PO and R2 were up to between the following...
02:40Fall of the Republic and the birth of the Empire...
02:42The thankfully short-lived series takes much of the magic...
02:45Out of their development...
02:46So much so that it's occasionally kinda sad to watch...
02:49Number 19...
02:50Star Wars The Clone Wars...
02:52This intriguing animated movie was...
02:55Released in 2008...
02:56As the feature-length pilot to the upcoming Clone Wars TV show...
03:00And despite some inescapable flaws...
03:02Remains a landmark instalment for the franchise's most recent era...
03:05Introducing fan favourite Ahsoka Tano...
03:07To the saga as the Padawan learner of Anakin...
03:09The...
03:10The movie follows the pair as they engage in the early stages of the autonomous war...
03:14And are eventually called...
03:15To help Jabba the Hutt find his missing son...
03:17Split into shifting segments though...
03:19The Clone Wars...
03:20The Clone Wars is choppy...
03:21And seemingly unfinished...
03:22Watching like 3 different episodes...
03:24Splice...
03:25Together...
03:26But it does well to set the table for things to come...
03:28Especially...
03:29Where the war and characters...
03:30Are concerned...
03:31From this point on...
03:32Things would never be the same again...
03:33And Star Wars fans are still reaping...
03:35The benefits of the stage it's set...
03:37Number 18...
03:38Attack of the Clones...
03:39Attack of the Clones...
03:40Is the most disappointing of the prequel trilogy...
03:42Because it's highs...
03:43Are so blitty high...
03:45But good lord...
03:46Are it's lore's lore...
03:47For one thing...
03:48This was the prequel that featured the...
03:50Epic Battle of Geonosis...
03:51The introduction of the Clone Army...
03:53As well as Anakin and Obi-Wan clashing...
03:55With the nefarious Count Dooku...
03:57In terms of world building...
03:58And character development...
03:59It's great to revisit...
04:00Attack...
04:00Attack of the Clones...
04:01And realize...
04:02Just how much of it...
04:03Really adds to the Skywalker saga...
04:04Bringing...
04:05Anakin's darkness out...
04:06And allowing the galaxy...
04:07To get one step closer...
04:08To war...
04:09The problem with...
04:10All of this though...
04:11And much of the prequel trilogy...
04:12In general...
04:13Is the execution...
04:14Which comes...
04:15Complete with a laughably bad script...
04:17Atrocious performances...
04:18And a central romance between...
04:20Anakin and Padme...
04:21That borders...
04:22Ununforgivable...
04:23The groundwork...
04:24Is there...
04:25Setting up...
04:25Big things...
04:26But it's seriously...
04:27Kinda hard to get through it...
04:28At times...
04:29Number 17...
04:30Resistance...
04:30One of the more...
04:31Underrated additions...
04:32To the franchise...
04:33Resistance...
04:34Is set before the events...
04:35Of the sequel trilogy...
04:36And follows the rebels...
04:37As they spy...
04:38On the looming threat...
04:39Of the first order...
04:40With...
04:40Sharp visuals...
04:41And a terrific voice cast...
04:42Such as sequel star...
04:43Oscar Isaac...
04:44The two season...
04:45Exploration of the new republic...
04:46And the inner workings...
04:47Of the rebel alliance...
04:48Makes for both...
04:49Engaging...
04:50And easily digestible...
04:51Fun...
04:52For the whole family...
04:53It's not...
04:54Particularly challenging...
04:55And suffers in part...
04:56Due to it's lack of necessity...
04:57To the overall story...
04:58Of films...
04:59But resistance...
05:00This is basically what...
05:01Ewoks and droids...
05:02Tried to do in the 80's...
05:03Be...
05:04An exciting...

05:20That's...

05:40In large part...

05:44That are both unique...

05:45To longtime fans...
05:46It may not be the Star Wars...

05:56The Phantom Menace...
05:57The Phantom Menace...
05:58Definitely...
05:59Definitely...
06:00Has...
06:00Its issues...
06:01Many of them...
06:02Glaring...
06:03There's the introduction...
06:04Of Jar Jar Binks...
06:05Young Anakin's...
06:05Many cringe-worthy lines...
06:06And the heavy-handed politics...
06:08Of the Republic's...
06:09Worldbuilding...
06:10But...
06:10There are more virtues...
06:11To the prequel trilogy's...
06:12Debut...
06:13Than...
06:14You may remember...
06:15Amongst them...
06:15The strong performances...
06:16And chemistry...
06:17Of Ewan McGregor...
06:18And Liam Neeson...
06:19The development...
06:20All of the Jedi...
06:20The Council...
06:21And John Williams's...
06:22Epic Scott...
06:23Then...
06:24Of course...
06:25There's the film's...
06:25To highlight...
06:26The Jewel of the Fates...
06:27In which...
06:28Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon Jinn...
06:29Clash with the silent villain...
06:30Darth Maul...
06:31Setting the stage...
06:32For the chaotic war...
06:33Between light and dark...
06:34That colours...
06:35The entire...
06:35Saga...
06:36It's high points...
06:37Might not be enough...
06:38To overcome...
06:39It's subtle as a rock...
06:40Storytelling...
06:40Strangely...
06:41Convoluted mythology...
06:42Or tacky humour...
06:43But the Phantom Menace...
06:44Is far from being...
06:45An all out...
06:45Failure...
06:46Just because of them...
06:47Number 14...
06:48The Book of Boba Fett...
06:49The most recent series...
06:50To be added to Star Wars...
06:51Back catalogue...
06:52The Book of Boba Fett...
06:53Acts as a thrilling...
06:54Lore heavy...
06:55Continuation...
06:56Of several major plotlines...
06:57Set up in its...
06:58Groundbreaking predecessor...
06:59The Mandalorian...
07:00Most enjoyably...
07:01Though...
07:02Is the way the show...
07:03Has finally given...
07:04Boba Fett a chance...
07:05To live up...
07:05To his massively...
07:06Overhyped legacy...
07:07Portraying him...
07:08With the steely...
07:09Determination...
07:10And general...
07:10The toughness...
07:11That he's always deserved...
07:12The show...
07:13Is still...
07:14In its infancy...
07:15So it has some...
07:15Key problems...
07:16Currently weighing it down...
07:17From its struggles...
07:18To actually keep Boba...
07:19Involved in the action...
07:20To its...
07:20To clean...
07:21TV aesthetic...
07:22But it's already got...
07:23More than enough twists...
07:24Turns...
07:25And a longer way...
07:25character interactions to give it a strong start and a bright future. Number 13.
07:30The Rise of Skywalker. As the final chapter of the Skywalker saga, the Rise of Skywalker had a
07:35lot riding on its shoulders and for the most part it kind of squandered its potential.
07:40Despite some bright spots found in the bracing duels between Rey and Kylo Ren and its striking
07:45visual flair, the movie offers up a barrage of unwanted twists such as the sudden return of
07:50Emperor Palpatine and nonsensical character motivations. But still there is
07:55a lot to love in here. It's clear that the cast still really care about this material and yeah
08:00Abrams is trying as hard as to wrap up a sequel trilogy that clearly had loads of
08:05poked into it. It's not quite as divisive as its predecessor but the Rise of Skywalker.
08:10Skywalker certainly has as many haters as it does fans. Number 12. Solo.
08:15One of the more underrated instalments of the Star Wars saga, Solo's main issue
08:20stems from just how safe and arguably unneeded it is. But even then it's-
08:25visual extravagance and exciting action does make it a worthwhile watch. Casting a saw-saw
08:30Alden Ehrenrich as the eponymous smuggler and emerging galactic hero. The prequel shed-
08:35light on Han's fun pre-Rebel days, the origins of his relationship with Chewbacca and Landon
08:40Calrissian and his famously speedy Kessel Run originally teased in a new hall.
08:45It's genuinely enjoyable stuff as well, managing to pack enough action and gorgeous effects-
08:50into the mix to overcome the issues with its predictable on-the-nose drama. Yes-
08:55Boring over the vast Star Wars catalog, Solo does feel like the biggest cash grab it's ever clutched for-
09:00but it's far from the all-out failure that many wish to pant it as. Number 11. The Bad B-
09:05Batch. The unexpected but welcome sequel to The Clone Wars, The Bad Batch follows a group of-
09:10mutated clones who survived Order 66 with their minds intact and set out as hidden-
09:15guns for hire in a world far removed from the one that they once fought for. With Oran-
09:20inspiring animation, it's already proven itself to be a magnificent addition to the canon. The voice-
09:25work of Dee Bradley Baker mixed with the tightly plotted writing that effortlessly continues several-
09:30major storylines set up in both Clone Wars and Rebels has made The Bad Batch yet another chronic-
09:35success for Star Wars' animated landscape. And that's without getting into the richly envisioned-
09:40clone protagonists, all of whom, especially Hunter, Omega and Crosshair, are surely some of-
09:45the most colourful characters the franchise has ever produced. Bring on the future of-
09:50this show. Number 10. The Mandalorian. The Star Wars series that nobody knew-
09:55they needed. The Mandalorian is about to enter its third season and cement itself as a classic-
10:00of the franchise. Thanks in large part to its infusion of Mandalorian mythology heavily influenced-
10:05by the works of TV shows like The Clone Wars and Rebels, and gripping action sequences-
10:10the series has hit new highs with each episode, and two seasons in seems to have seen-
10:15single-handedly ushered in a new great era for the franchise's fans. It's clean production-
10:20and slight over-indulgence on fan service has dampened things at times. Sure, but The Mandalorian-
10:25is still modern Star Wars at its best. Number 9. Revenge of the Sith. Revenge-
10:30Revenge of the Sith suffers from many of the same flaws as the rest of the prequels, most notably-
10:35melodramatic script emphasized by atrocious acting and rushed payoffs.
10:40But, and it is a big but, aside from its detours into ridiculousness and-
10:45meme ability, it's actually pretty damn good. Especially the second half, between some-
10:50really, really good performances like Ewan McGregor's, the haunting execution of the-
10:55order 66 sequence, and the way that it leans into the good versus evil theme of the saga, there is-
11:00so much to love in this movie. It's not perfect, few movies are, but Revenge of-
11:05the Sith captures the magic and darkness of the Star Wars saga almost as well as the originals-
11:10only with more CGI Yoda and coughing cyborgs who never live up to their potential.
11:15Also, who could possibly hate the final duel between Obi-Wan and Anakin? It makes-
11:20makes the movie better whether you initially liked it or not.
11:23Number 8. Rebels. Set-
11:25several years before the events of A New Hope, Rebels ran for four seasons and 75 episodes.
11:30and shed some revealing light on the early years of the original Rebel Alliance and the effects-
11:35the fall of the Republic had on the galaxy. Uniquely animated to suit the original Star Wars-
11:40concept art by Ralph McQuarrie, Rebels never shies away from the darkest recesses of the-
11:45saga, but with its light humour and endearing gaggle of anti-heroes, makes itself fun for the-
11:50whole family as well as top tier Star Wars through and through.
11:54Number 7. The Force-
11:55The Force Awakens
11:56In terms of story, it's tough to argue that The Force Awakens is mostly a rehash of the-
12:00original trilogy. You know, an orphan with a forgotten past is thrust into an intergalactic war-
12:05which defines their true calling as a Jedi Knight. But whilst its plot is derivative and sets a-
12:10emotional story that leaves the events of the previous six movies a little bit forgotten, there is still-
12:15so much to love about the first chapter of the sequel trilogy. For one thing, there's the character-
12:20including troubled survivor Rey, roguish fighter pilot Paul, former stormtrooper Finn-
12:25and conflicted antagonist Kylo Ren, all of whom work well with legacy characters such as-
12:30Han and Leia. Even with its divisive cliffhanger and predictable story, The Force Awakens-
12:35is heaps of fun and captures the spirit of the franchise's message and characters-
12:40beautifully. It's aged very well and deserves a major reappraisal.
12:44Number 6.
12:45The Force Awakens
12:45Return of the Jedi
12:46The most common complaint leveled towards Return of the Jedi is that it's a little bit too-
12:50silly, especially when compared to its two classic predecessors. Ewoks and the-
12:55cartoonish battle of Endor notwithstanding though-
12:57the final chapter of the original trilogy might actually-
13:00be the darkest of the three films. Thanks in a large part to Jabba the Hutt's general-
13:05vileness and Luke Skywalker's final clash with his soon-to-be-redeemed father.
13:10But it's not all bleak, instead striking a rewarding balance between the sagas-
13:15heavier twists and its exciting sense of wonder and adventure. Even in its lesser-
13:20moments there's something here for everybody to enjoy. Return of the Jedi brings the trilogy to a fanta-
13:25fantastic conclusion all told, tying up loose ends and riveting character arcs with violent-
13:30and heartwarming payoffs to spare.
13:32Number 5.
13:33The Last Jedi
13:34The Last Jedi
13:35The Last Jedi
13:36to Star Wars' mighty back catalogue, The Last Jedi followed on from the cliffhanger of the Force.
13:41As Rey seeks a reclusive Luke's guidance on honing her skills as a Jedi.
13:46Directed by Rian Johnson, The Last Jedi digs deep into the characters at its centre more in-
13:51intensely than any Star Wars vehicle before or since, as Luke grapples with the result-
13:56of his regrettable actions, Rey struggles to control her mysterious powers, and Kylo Ren-
14:01seesaws between villainy and anti-hero.
14:04On top of that, it's also the most visually-
14:06beautiful chapter of the entire saga, rich with vibrant colour, impressive set pieces, and a-
14:11final act showdown between Luke and Kylo, that's one of the best scenes in the franchise.
14:16It's not flawless, of course, I mean, Rey travelling through spaces is a little bit silly, whilst the Finn and-
14:21of course, the plot does feel like directionless filler, but it's a daring adventure that takes risks and-
14:26makes them work much better than expected.
14:28Number four, Rogue One.
14:30Yep, that's right-
14:31I guess, the one without any Jedi and a large ensemble of never-before-seen characters is-
14:36in fact, one of the best Star Wars projects of all time.
14:39Yet another story to take place-
14:41Before the events of A New Hope, Rogue One follows a group of mismatched rebel soldiers as they risk-
14:46everything to steal the Death Star plans from a highly protected Imperial planet. Visually-
14:51gorgeous and rife with subtle tragic characters, we really wish had more time. The pre-
14:56sequel source thanks to it's avoidance of formula. There's no prophecies here are super-powered-
15:01beings battling for the galaxy, just everyday people with an eclectic set of skills willing to-
15:06fight for what they believe in. Rogue One is epic, harrowing, and unpredictable-
15:11stuff, and makes the events of the original trilogy that much richer to revisit. It really-
15:16is that great. Number three, The Clone Wars. The best Star Wars show-
15:21on offer, The Clone Wars is the franchise's most expansive and eye-opening descent-
15:26to the complexities and inner workings of the galaxy. Confidently shedding light on its politics-
15:31the Jedi Order and the turmoil of conflict. Focusing on a wide variety of characters-
15:36during the titular war, the seven season series told stories about rookie clones-
15:41one-off Jedi, bounty hunters, behind the scenes political betrayal, and more.
15:46With each development adding a new layer of brilliance to the saga's impressive worldbuilding.
15:51Aside from its stunning animation, epic battles, and endless supply of engrossing characters though-
15:56The Clone Wars-
15:56The Clone Wars' true power came from how it explored the downfall of Anakin Skywalker, his-
16:01Patawan Ahsoka, and his master Obi-Wan. The Clone Wars is such a rewarding exp-
16:06experience, mixing the franchise's humour, darkness, and heartbreak together perfectly-
16:10that there's-
16:11there's only two things on this list that can beat it.
16:14Number 2- A New Hope-
16:16It all started here, with an orphan farmer called Luke Skywalker who escaped from his mundane-
16:21existence, and along with a princess, an infamous smuggler, a wookie, two droids, and a weather-
16:26the Jedi Master became the face of a war without end. Undeniably, one of cinema's-
16:31most important cultural landmarks in New Hope gave birth to the modern blockbuster, and said-
16:36in motion the lives of a group of fantastical characters who continue to shape pop culture, and the-
