00:00All right, so a lot of you guys asked for this one, which should offer a little reassurance that iPhone battery.
00:05Life struggles are not just a you problem.
00:07Over time, iPhone battery life will start to drain more.
00:10That's all normal.
00:11All rechargeable lithium ion batteries are consumables, which means.
00:15They have a limited lifespan eventually, no matter how careful you are, their capacity.
00:20And performance will decline, but there's some good news.
00:23You can make your iPhone's battery.
00:25Hold up longer than average.
00:26Sure, it's easy to blame iOS updates when your battery life dips, but.
00:30But the truth is, your charging habits, settings, and even environment all play a role.
00:34So in this episode.
00:35Of Setup Essentials, we'll go through the things you can do that actually make a difference for keeping your eye.
00:40iPhone battery healthy, including how to know when it might be time for a replacement.
00:45All right, so the first thing you should do is figure out your current.
00:50battery capacity, get a baseline for how your iPhone's battery health is holding up.
00:55Especially if you have an older phone, I'm doing this on iOS 26.
01:00First, go to settings, battery, battery health.
01:05Here you'll see a percentage next to maximum capacity, and this number tells you how much.
01:10charge your battery can hold compared to when it was brand new.
01:13So if it says 90%,
01:15that means you're getting 90% of the original battery life.
01:18Once that percentage drops,
01:20there's no way to increase it again.
01:22So if you're looking for how to increase battery health on.
01:25iPhone, it's not really possible.
01:27You can't restore capacity.
01:29You can only maintain.
01:30what you have left.
01:31And again, some of the tips in this video should help you out.
01:35That said, it might be time to get your iPhone battery replaced.
01:37Apple's rule of thumb when your iPhone battery.
01:40battery health hits 80%, start thinking about a replacement.
01:42For the average user, this usually takes a.
01:45around two years of daily charging cycles, you can get a replacement directly from Apple or an.
01:50authorized repair center, which is the safest way to go.
01:53If you notice sudden shutdowns.
01:55or way less screen on time, those are sure signs that you're due for repair and honestly.
02:00it's a great way to go replaceable batteries mean you can get more years out of your iPhone.
02:05But you're probably noticing that I have a hundred percent battery capacity.
02:08That's because I'm doing this demo on the.
02:10iPhone 17 pro and at the time of this review, it's practically brand new.
02:14The iPhone.
02:15iPhone 17 pro and iPhone 17 pro max are the best iPhones for battery life.
02:20We got into the benchmarks in our videos for the iPhone air battery life and on our iPhone.
02:25iPhone 17 pro review.
02:26So go check those out if you haven't done so yet on our channel, basically the cliff.
02:30notes version is that this phone offers several more hours of battery life than the previous one due to.
02:35a number of improvements, but primarily it's the a 19 pro chipset and larger batteries.
02:40So your alternative to replacing the battery on your older iPhone is upgrading to a new one.
02:45That's obviously a personal decision, but if you're interested, I'll link some of the best deals down below.
02:50So getting back to our iPhone battery life test, this one is simple, but useful.
02:54Turn on the actual.
02:55battery percentage to help you keep track of how much battery you have left throughout the day.
02:59Go to settings.
03:00battery.
03:01Toggle on battery percentage.
03:03This way you'll always know exactly.
03:05what's left instead of guessing from that little icon.
03:08Your iPhone's display is one of.
03:10the biggest battery life drains, but here's also the biggest change you can do to make your battery.
03:15life last longer.
03:16First, turn off auto brightness by going to settings, except.
03:20accessibility, displaying text size and toggle the auto brightness option off.
03:25There is a disclaimer here, but it primarily applies to how.
03:30bad it is if you leave your iPhone display at a hundred percent brightness all of the time.
03:35Instead, why this is good, if you can keep your iPhone display brightness low and even as.
03:40ambient lighting conditions change your iPhone won't force the brightness back up.
03:44So.
03:45If you're going to use this trick, just make sure to do so responsibly.
03:48Next.
03:49Switch on.
03:50Arc mode to be your default appearance on these.
03:53OLED displays black pixels use less.
03:55power.
03:56Go to settings.
03:57Display brightness.
03:58Turn off.
04:00automatic.
04:01And toggle on dark.
04:06Finally, turn off.
04:07Always on display.
04:08If you don't really need it.
04:09With each new.
04:10iPhone.
04:11They get more optimized for the always on display.
04:13So this might not make a huge difference depending on.
04:15which generation iPhone you have, but small changes here do add up over the course of a day.
04:20When your iPhone battery life drops to 20%, you probably get.
04:25prompted to enable low power mode.
04:27Low power mode is Apple's built in battery saver switch.
04:30That when enabled reduces background activity like automatic downloads, email fetching.
04:35iCloud syncing and even dims your display.
04:37It's perfect when you're trying to squeeze extra life out of.
04:40your phone, but it's not really meant to be used on the regular.
04:43It's mostly to keep your iPhone with a.
04:45enough juice for the essential needs until you get to a charger.
04:50Speaking of charging all iPhones now.
04:55include a setting called optimized battery charging.
04:58This slows charging past 80% until you.
05:00actually need it based on your routine.
05:03Why?
05:04Because lithium ion battery.
05:05batteries like to live in that 20 to 80% capacity range.
05:09charging all the way to.
05:10100% or leaving your iPhone plugged in overnight.
05:13put stress on the battery over time.
05:15So to enable this go to battery settings.
05:18charging.
05:20optimized battery charging.
05:23optimized battery charging.
05:24I've seen.
05:25some people suggest bypassing this and just setting the charge limit to 80 or even 85%.
05:30But personally, I think the built in setting does what's best, but feel free to try other.
05:35methods if you want.
05:36If anything, I'd say it's more important to avoid.
05:40charging in extreme heat or cold.
05:42Don't leave your phone in the sun or a hot car.
05:45heat is one of the fastest ways to damage your battery health.
05:48Similarly, you can use your iPhone.
05:50while charging.
05:51But if it's getting really hot, that's your cue to give it a break.
05:54Now.
05:55Another thing to keep in mind, portable power banks.
05:58They're super handy, but not all of them.
06:00You can keep in mind.
06:01You can keep in mind.
06:02If you want the safest option, stick to Apple's own charging.
06:05accessories.
06:06For third party gear, look for certified MagSafe power banks.
06:10like Belkin and Moffy are solid and you'll even find them in Apple stores.
06:15I know a lot of people love Anker, myself included, but just be aware they've had a few overheat
06:20needing recalls.
06:21That doesn't mean every product is bad, but it is worth being cautious.
06:25I'd suggest sticking to the ones that again are sold through Apple.
06:28And hey, if you want me to do a full.
06:30breakdown of the best iPhone power banks, just let me know in the comments.
06:33Going back to making your iPhone.
06:35battery life lasts longer.
06:36Here's another sneaky drain.
06:38Background app refresh.
06:40If you don't need apps constantly updating the background, turn it off or set it to Wi-Fi.
06:45Only this cuts it down on both battery usage and data.
06:50Speaking of data, your iPhone uses a lot more energy on cellular connections than Wi-Fi.
06:55If you're someone with a strong Wi-Fi connection, use that instead.
06:59Your battery will thank you.
07:00So that's it.
07:05The real ways to check, maintain and stretch your iPhone battery.
07:09Remember.
07:10You can't reverse battery capacity once it drops, but with the right habits and settings.
07:15You can slow that decline and get the most life out of your device, both on a daily basis.
07:20And more importantly, long term.
