00:01because we're the ones that are down with it.
00:03Hey Marie Claire, this is Gabrielle Union, and this.
00:05Is solicited advice.
00:09When is it time?
00:10Is it time to delete someone's number?
00:12And what earns them a place on the permanent block list?
00:15Is it time to delete someone's number when they
00:16irritate the out of me the first time?
00:18I'm at the age where.
00:20I don't know.
00:21Why?
00:22Who has time?
00:23Not me.
00:24You got one good time to try me.
00:25And then it's over.
00:26You are deleted.
00:27You are blocked.
00:28And I forget you're alive.
00:30My in-laws keep pulling the back in the day card
00:34when they see my parents.
00:35parenting choices as too progressive.
00:37Hmm.
00:38How can I get them to see eye to eye?
00:40With me.
00:41Why do you have to see eye to eye with anyone that is not in-
00:45your home raising your children with you?
00:48It's okay to be like, oh, thank you for that.
00:50I'm doing my own thing, but thank you.
00:52I appreciate your care and concern.
00:53Or, nobody asked you!
00:55What's your advice for reinventing yourself when people around you
01:00still expect the old you?
01:01I don't reinvent myself.
01:02I am who I am.
01:03I just get rid of the people around me.
01:05Who want me to stay the same?
01:06What?
01:07Reinvent what?
01:08I'm in.
01:09I've been in.
01:10I'll still be in tomorrow and the next year.
01:15What are some topics that should always be off-limits
01:18when it comes to motherhood advice?
01:20Offering advice that no one asked for.
01:22Hey, don't talk about anybody's baby's looks.
01:25Or things you could do to improve your baby's looks.
01:27I got a lot of that.
01:29It's your baby.
01:30You think-
01:30You think that your baby's perfect.
01:31And to have someone offer advice about-
01:35How your baby could be cuter?
01:37That-
01:38That is also going to get you on the block.
01:40Forever-ever-ever-ever-lest.
01:42F*** off.
01:43Don't tell me about my child.
01:44Don't-
01:45Tell me your thoughts about what you think is happening
01:48in my household with my child.
01:50I feel like you're RSVPing to an invitation I never sent.
01:55You heard 2000's iconic film-
01:56You heard 2000's iconic film-
02:00I feel like my baby's characters are always on my fashion mood boards.
02:02Who's on mine?
02:04Solange-
02:05Always.
02:06The 80's and 90's supermodels.
02:08Everyone from-
02:10Karen White.
02:11Gail O'Neill.
02:12Beverly Johnson.
02:13From the 70's.
02:15There's so many.
02:16Like I-
02:17I constantly am going back to the Battle of Versailles.
02:20Um, what is old is new.
02:22And that's a personal thing.
02:24Because I'm old!
02:25But I'm new.
02:26What's your strategy for surviving a group chat you regret-
02:30joining?
02:31Well, first of all, a lot of the group chats I'm in, I did not ask to join.
02:34Like, my-
02:35my-
02:36my in-laws.
02:37Mourning
02:38religious
02:39texts.
02:40I love Jesus.
02:41I do.
02:42I love God.
02:43I love Jesus.
02:44But somehow my husband isn't in this-
02:45chat, but I am in it.
02:46And I find that to be unfair.
02:48If anyone needs the- the word of the Lord, it's him.
02:50Not me.
02:51What's your advice for walking back into a room where you just tri-
02:55own it.
02:56Laugh, child.
02:57Cause it's funny.
02:58There's nothing funnier than a fall that-
03:00where someone doesn't get injured.
03:01I'm just like, oh!
03:02I'm tripping!
03:03What's the best advice you've encountered having spent years-
03:08in the glam chair.
03:09There's who you think you are, and then who you actually are-
03:13what you actually look like.
03:14Something like foundation.
03:15Inside, you may be a whole-
03:18different color than what you actually look like.
03:20It's best to go by what you see in the mirror.
03:23If your neck does not match your jaw, let's just go.
03:28Let's go for, you know, something in the middle perhaps.
03:31It's okay to let the melanin sh-
03:33shine, child.
03:34Don't try to diminish it.
03:35Don't try to be like, oh, let's take it down.
03:38Let's bring it up.
03:39It's okay to be your true self.
03:43What's your advice for trying to channel Clover's energy in a-
03:48Toro's world?
03:49Well, a real Clover will call it out to your face in real-
03:53time.
03:54And that- I keep that same energy for every day.
03:57You know me.
03:58Like-
03:58I'm not one to hold my tongue.
04:00Listen, you do what you gotta do for justice.
04:03Personal justice.
04:04World justice.
04:05Sometimes you gotta remove yourself when you are-
04:08shown the door time and time again.
04:11Sometimes it's okay to just leave.
04:13How do I stay soft and open in a world that rewards-
04:18being hard?
04:19I'm just trying to learn how to be soft and what that even means.
04:23It's hard when you have to be responsible and accountable for-
04:28a number of households to be-
04:31to take to my sick bed and-
04:33you know, it's hard to be open for care.
04:38and consideration when it has historically not been given.
04:42I think the best advice-
04:43is to give yourself grace as often as you can.
04:45And sometimes say,
04:46NO!
04:48I'm taking to my sick bed!
04:49When you're not even sick.
04:51Fake a gastrointestinal issue.
04:52They don't ask a lot-
04:53a lot of follow-up questions for that.
04:55What are your tips for serving a look court-
04:58outside?
04:59Well, things done change, child.
05:00We just were trying to be cute, child.
05:01There weren't whole blah-
05:03blogs and TikToks and all the things social media-
05:06highlighting or tearing apart your-
05:08courtside looks.
05:09These girls, they coming with it.
05:11Bag down to the socks.
05:13Outfit.
05:14All name brands.
05:15Like, I-
05:16I can't afford that today.
05:17These days, I try-
05:18to go for tough, cute, crazy, sexy, cool.
05:20A little something-
05:21Oh my God, she's 52!
05:22That's really-
05:23really my goal these days, um,
05:25is to give them a little shock and awe.
05:29How do you keep one-upping anniversary gifts
05:32as the years go on?
05:33Luckily for me, I don't.
05:35My husband-
05:36Oh, good luck for him.
05:37So this year I-
05:38she sang.
05:39And I saw some comments of like,
05:41she sang?
05:42For their 10-year anniversary?
05:43Yes I did.
05:44Because it's-
05:45it's cost-effective.
05:46Now we're those background singers that I-
05:47I brought in.
05:48from the United States cost-effective.
05:49No.
05:50No they weren't.
05:51But they made me sound a lot better.
05:52And it's really about being thoughtful.
05:53I want effort.
05:56What's your advice for making a-
05:58come back when life,
05:59and maybe love,
06:00hasn't gone according to plan.
06:02I am a-
06:03big firm believer,
06:04and get back on the horse immediately.
06:06Cause you know what's not gonna stop?
06:07For you or your-
06:08pain?
06:09The world.
06:10And you're like, does no one care?
06:11No.
06:12Unfortunately no one-
06:13it's going to care as much as you do about
06:15the state of your heart or your life.
06:17My-
06:18my aunt gave great advice that significant others are-
06:23you're like Kleenex.
06:25Take one out.
06:26Use it.
06:27Oh look!
06:28Another one's popped-
06:28up in its place.
06:29Some people are like,
06:30I'm never gonna have another Kleenex.
06:31There's so many.
06:32Go through the box trail.
06:33Let's go through the box.
06:35And when you're dead,
06:36no one's gonna be like,
06:37oh my god, thank god.
06:38she didn't use her vagina.
06:40What's your go-to excuse for leaving a party-
06:43early when your social battery is dead?
06:45I don't have an excuse.
06:46I just leave.
06:48That's what grown people do.
06:49I'm not gonna do the old,
06:50I'm leaving you guys-
06:51because then everyone's like,
06:52why are you leaving?
06:53It's so much-
06:53it's so much fun.
06:54I just leave.
06:55Alright guys,
06:56thanks so much for watching.
06:58Thanks so much for watching.
