It's been over 20 years since DS9 wrapped: what have the cast been up to since?
Transcript
00:00Deep Space Nine was the show that enjoyed one of the largest supporting casts out of all of the
00:04Treks.
00:05The series to date, aside from the core characters, there were regulars in Quark's bar looking
00:09at you.
00:10New Morn and those Starfleet officers who dropped in from time to time.
00:13Add to this the mighty...
00:15Dominion, the Klingon Empire and all sorts and without a chart, sometimes it's a little
00:19difficult to keep...
00:20All of these characters in check.
00:21One of the major positives are the directions that the actor's careers can take.
00:25During the show and also afterwards.
00:27Whilst many have remained on television, some of the cast have started...
00:30Star Trek DS9 have moved into entirely new directions.
00:33Some are teaching, some are writing and other...
00:35Well, they've run for office.
00:36I'm Marcus Bronzy, this is Trek Culture and this is...
00:40The cast of Deep Space Nine, where are they now?
00:43Number 19, Admiral...
00:45Admiral Ross, Barry Jenner.
00:46Admiral William Ross was an addition to the series in the sixth season.
00:50Taking Cisco on as his right-hand man.
00:52Barry Jenner appeared in several more episodes up to...
00:55The seventh season finale and he passed away in 2016.
00:58He was a popular addition to...

01:05Dallas, Somerset and another world.
01:07He was an avid fan of both tennis and golf.
01:09Playing in...

01:12Unfortunately, he died in 2016 from a...
01:15acute myeloid leukemia.
01:16He was 75.
01:17Number 18, Legate Damar...
01:20Legate Damar first appeared in a tiny guest spot back in Deep Space Nine's...
01:25Season as an unnamed aide to Golda Cat.
01:27This was a very small spot which eventually...
01:30Evolved to Damar running the Cardassian Union and finally instigating the insurrection...
01:35against the Dominion, giving his life for the fight in the process.
01:38Not bad for a walk on...
01:40Since Deep Space Nine, he's appeared in ER, The Good Wife, Elementary, Person of In...

02:26well like much of Hollywood during the show's run...

04:35Star Trek...
04:35back in the 80s but continuing on up until quite recently in 2018 he played
04:40lovecraft himself in howard lovecraft and the kingdom of madness he can also be seen
04:45in unbelievable alongside many other great star trek actors number four
04:5014. Gull DeCott Mark Alaimo Mark Alaimo is most recognizable
04:55to most star trek fans as Gull DeCott the evil leader of the cardassian union
05:00and then later the parwraith acolyte his slow manner of speaking hooked audio
05:05experiences from the beginning though DeCott was not his first role on trek in
05:09the years since deep
05:10space 9 has finished Alaimo has stayed away from the spotlight somewhat he has
05:13continued to work on
05:15stage using his role as Gull DeCott as an inspiration for much of his work since
05:19then
05:20Alaimo has the distinction of being probably the most developed villain in
05:23all of star trek as
05:25DeCott appeared in 33 separate episodes where his story went from shady
05:29Cardassian
05:30soldier to the harbinger of doom in the show's finale be that as it may
05:35DeCott remains a firm fan favorite character number 13 Garrick
05:40andrew robinson garrick remains one of the most interesting recurring characters on any of the
05:45star trek series thanks in large to the wonderful performance by Andrew
05:49robinson himself
05:50introduced early in the series he appeared in many episodes throughout the
05:53show's run he originally
05:55auditioned for odo but secured garrick instead he kept a character bible
05:58throughout the series
06:00using it to frame and then fully compose the novel a stitch in time once the show was
06:05finished the novel chronicles not just the aftermath of the dominion war but expands on garrick's early
06:10life as well he and alexander sadig collaborated on a stage play entitled the game
06:15dream box which they often perform together at conventions he was recently interviewed for the behind
06:20the scenes look at the making of the 80s horror film hellraiser wherein he played the father of the original
06:25lead character prior to deep space 9 he would have been widely recognized as the scorpio killer
06:30from 1971's dirty harry he was one of the first backers of what we left behind and
06:35provides a narration thread throughout using his instantly recognizable voice to both chill and
06:40dream for the three years
06:41number twelve general martoc jg herzla hurts that actually appeared
06:45as far back as the pilot emissary as the Vulcan captain of the USS Saratoga, he would
06:50of course become best known for his role as General Martok, with two of his many appearances
06:55being as a changeling imposter, been busy for the last few years. In 2013, he was
07:00elected as a democrat of the board to Ulysses, New York, close to a town called Romulus.
07:05In 2016, he and James Cromwell were arrested for civil disobedience.
07:10Protesting the green lighting of underground gas storage in Seneca Lake over public opposition.
07:15In 2017, he announced his candidacy for the US Senate, planning to run in 2018.
07:20Advancing to the primary, but withdrawing his candidacy a little later.
07:2411.
07:25Nog
07:26Aaron Eisenberg
07:27Forever known to Star Trek fans as Nog, Quark's nephew,
07:30best friend of Jake Sisko and Ensign aboard Deep Space Nine and the USS Defiant Aaron Eisenberg
07:35sadly passed away in September 2019. He had suffered ill health for many years
07:40beginning with a kidney transplant in his teens that stunted his growth and eventually a second kidney
07:45transplant in 2015. He had two sons and a loving wife whom he married in 2018.
07:50He was a professional photographer with his own gallery. He appeared on other shows like The Secret World
07:55of Alex Mack in the 90s and was also a theatre director up to the time of his death. He played
08:00Nog for all seven seasons of Deep Space Nine. Of the role he had this to say.
08:05I always carry love for the show with me, wherever I go. So when you ask me what I've left behind,
08:10I can't think I've left anything behind because it's still here with me every day.
08:15He was a professional, a devoted father and friend. He was a co-host with Sirach Lofton on the podcast
08:20The 7th Rule, keeping their friendship going in the years after the show wrapped.
08:25He was young by heart failure at the age of 50. He's sorely missed.
08:28Number 10, Colonel Kira
08:30Nana Visitor
08:31Nana Visitor
08:32Nana Visitor had one of the hardest roles to play in Star Trek. As a man,
08:35a major and later a colonel Kira, she was tasked with making an admitted terrorist a sympathetic
08:40character, something she not only achieved but did so in such a way that it cemented her character
08:45as one of the best across all entries in the franchise. Since the show wraps, she is kept very
08:50busy in terms of work. She went from space to dancing, appearing in Las Vegas
08:55and Washington as Roxy Hart in Chicago before joining the Broadway version. She appeared in Dark
09:00Angel, Frasier, CSI and in Wildfire in which she had the starring role for four seasons.
09:05She then went on to appear in Battlestar Galactica for one episode of its fourth season.
09:10where she plays a woman dying from cancer who strongly believes in the message of God, tying
09:14back to her days as the
09:15devout Kira. She appeared in the BBC sci-fi series Torchwood Miracle Day for two episodes.
09:20and then in Castle with former co-star Penny Johnson. Like many other Trek actors, she
09:25has done voice work in Family Guy, appearing in 12 episodes to date. She's also appeared in the
09:29remake of Frasier.
09:30Friday the 13th. She's a frequent guest at Star Trek conventions and it's safe to say that she's kept busy
09:35since the show wrapped.
09:36Number nine, Julian Bashir, Alexander Siddiq. Introduced to the show
09:40in Emissary, the cocky young recruit Julian Bashir would rise through the show to become one of the
09:45most beloved characters in the series. Siddiq was only 25 when he landed the role of Dr. Bashir
09:50after being passed over for the role of Commander Sisko. That was a great idea guys. During the
09:55show's run, he fell in love with and had a child with co-star Nana Visitor, with whom he married an
10:00and subsequently divorced, although they remain on good terms. His later credits include spooks, family
10:05guy, 24, Game of Thrones, Peaky Blinders and Gotham. He has appeared in many films
10:10since the show finished as well. He appeared in Reign of Fire, Kingdom of Heaven, Doomsday with his
10:15uncle, Malcolm McDowell and Siriana, to name a few. He has also been one of the few
10:20actors to both work in Star Trek and Doctor Who, so it's safe to say that he's been
10:25busy. Number 8, Quark, Armin Shimmerman. Armin Shimmerman has enjoyed a very long
10:30association with Star Trek. He made his first appearance on screen all the way back in the
10:35generation's first season. He appeared as the face of L'Oxana Troy's jewellery box in Haven.
10:40And then appeared in the flesh, so to speak, in The Last Outpost, portraying one of the first
10:45Ferengi ever seen in Star Trek. While that episode was mixed in terms of reception, his
10:50turner's quark undeniably was one of the highlights of Deep Space Nine. Through him, the Ferengi
10:55were given a greater depth and breadth, evolving from something of a joke to a well-rounded
11:00series. He also appeared as the horrible Principal Snyder on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. There were
11:05few fans who were
11:05fans who didn't have a smug smile when that giant snake chomped down on him. Since
11:10then, he's appeared in Nip Tuck, an ER, and has lent his voice to video games including 2007
11:15Bioshock and Mass Effect. He's married to actress Kitty Swink, who guest starred in
11:20Deep Space Nine as well. Bonus fact! He was actually present on set as Quark when the Paramount
11:25Lot was hit by an earthquake in 1994. He quickly rushed home to check on his family, forgetting that he
11:30was in full makeup and in his own words, scared the sh** out of several onlookers.
11:35Number 7 Jake Sisko, Ciroc Lofton
11:38Ciroc Lofton was the youngest lead actor in
11:40the Star Trek series when he was cast as Jake all the way back in 1992. It was just
11:45a few weeks after his 14th birthday at the time, but it wasn't his first appearance on TV. He'd already appeared
11:50in several other productions. Throughout the run of the show, Lofton grew very close to his on-screen father,
11:55Avery Brooks, a relationship that he has recently revealed has survived to this day. Both Brooks
12:00and Lofton cited that this relationship was one of their favourite takeaways from their time on the show.
12:05Ciroc Lofton is currently the host of the podcast The 7th Rule, which he previously hosted with Aaron Eisenberg.
12:10Although Eisenberg was several years his senior, on the show they developed a firm friendship that lasted up
12:15until his death in 2019. Though his current acting credits are sparse, Lofton continues
12:20to attend Star Trek conventions and appeared in What We Left Behind, the documentary Chronicling
12:25both the making of Deep Space Nine and celebrating the anniversary of the show. He remains involved in the
12:30Star Trek universe and has appeared in some Star Trek web series that have unfortunately had their trek over
12:35full-end tones due due to the lawsuit on fan productions. He now resides in California and
12:40has one daughter number six miles o'brien column meanie the long-suffering chief of
12:45operations on deep space nine or to others the most important man on starfleet miles o'brien
12:50was a role that column meanie landed back in the next generation appearing in the pilot
12:55counter at farpoint he is one of the few guest stars to appear in both of the pilots and final
13:00episodes for the next generation and deep space nine meanie was perhaps best known to audiences
13:04for his role
13:05in the barrytown trilogy outside of star trek but he has also appeared in a vast array of both iris
13:10uk and american productions he appeared in die hard 2 into the west and the war of the button
13:15after the show he went on to appear in the simpsons and stargate atlantis he had a starring role in
13:20amc's hell on wheels from 2011 to 2016 as well as a role in the
13:25adaption of childhood's end number five esri dax nicole de boer
13:30nicole de boer joined deep space nine in the role of esri dax and appeared in all episodes of the seventh
13:35final season she was actually given quite a few episodes revolving entirely around her character
13:39which gave her a short
13:40short amount of time but the opportunity to really establish herself on the show esri was a very different
13:45character from judzia something that fans were quick to point out even though star trek painfully goes through
13:50the effort to explain why symbiotes are different when they are in different bodies um do you not know how
13:55true work opinion has softened a bit in the intervening years the introduction of her character allowed writers
14:00writers to better resolve the dax wharf storyline which by necessity was cut brutally short i'll explain
14:05why that happened in just a minute she eventually ended up in a relationship with julian which sort of brings his
14:10arc with dax in a full circle following the end of the show's run debor then took a start
14:15starring role in the dead zone based on the stephen king novel of the same name she appeared in stargate atlanta
14:20atlanta which also starred robert picardo although their characters were never seen on screen at the
14:25the same time debor was also a part of what we left behind expressing her fond memories of her
14:30relatively short time on the show she currently has a recurring role on the canadian series private eyes and she
14:35has one daughter named summer number four jadzia dax terry farrell terry farrell of
14:40course played jadzia dax for deep space 9's first six series being memorably killed off in the six
14:45season finale tears of the prophets she also remains one of the few main actors to be killed on screen
14:50and not have her character come back in some form or another the reason for this was due to behind the scenes
14:55strife farrell's contract had ended and she wanted to renegotiate a contract where she had less
15:00episode appearances this had the unfortunate effect of angering producers to the point where they decided
15:05they would give her all the time off she wants by killing jadzia dax though this relationship has since been
15:10ended it had not been fixed in time for the series finale what you leave behind which features no tribute to
15:15jadzia in the closing minutes since then farrell went on to star in shows like becca where she remained
15:20for four seasons at various conventions she has expressed her regret at how the situation ended between
15:25her and in particular rick berman who she cites as the main reason dax was killed off a fish
15:30initially though it stated she did not give her permission to use her likeness for the show's finale
15:34she's in fact
15:35stated that she was never approached about it in 2018 she married adam nimoy yep
15:40leonard's son and had a son named max from a previous marriage she's appeared in renegades and continued
15:45to tour the convention circuits number three warf michael dawn like
15:50colin meanie michael dawn was an alumni of the next generation where he played warf for seven
15:55seasons once that show finished and generations had been released in theaters the producers decided to
16:00bring warf over onto deep space nine making him the first trek actor to play a leading role on
16:05two of the different spin-offs he remained with the show until completion in 1999
16:10following star trek he appeared as a pilot in the biography film of ali dawn is actually an expert
16:15experienced pilot in real life and owned several jets he appeared in the disney movies the santa claus 2
16:20and 3 playing the sandman he's continued to work on television and film occasionally with his star
16:25trek castmates he was also one of many star trek actors who provided their voice on the disney animation
16:30animated series gargoyles wherein he played the role of cold stone and taurus he has appeared in many
16:35video games and join the rest of the next generation castmates in the family guy episode not all
16:40dogs go to heaven word on the street is that dawn has pitched a wolf spin-off series but nothing
16:45has come of that yet and he was allegedly offered a role in star trek discovery but apparently was offered solely
16:50a little money he had to turn it down he's gone on the record to say how much he hated the makeup required for the
16:55role of the world
16:55of warf but still when this article was first written we did say that we hoped that he would be making a
17:00cameo appearance in the new season of picard i better buy myself a lottery ticket because it's happening
17:05number two odo renee obezhenwa obezhenwa started as a
17:10odo for the entirety of deep space 9's run but appeared in star trek before as kermit
17:15and arnold west in star trek undiscovered country he would later appear in a guest role on enterprise
17:20Sadly, he passed away from lung cancer in 2019, but not before leaving a significant
17:25body of work behind. Prior to his work in Star Trek, he appeared in Benson from 19
17:3080 to 1986 and appeared in several theatre productions, earning him a Tony Award along
17:35the way. Following Star Trek, he went on to star in Boston Legal, which also featured William
17:40Shatner and his long-time friend, Armin Shimmerman.
17:43Abouzhenwa was an accomplished voice actor
17:45Perhaps his best-known voice role was Disney's The Little Mermaid, where he played Louis
17:50The Chef, a role he reprised in the animated television series that followed.
17:54Speaking of animated series
17:55He also lent his voice to Batman, the animated series, and he's one of the few actors to
18:00appear both in the animated Batman series and the live action films. He appeared in Stargate SG-1,
18:05took part in the comedy roast of William Shatner along with appearing in It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia.
18:10He directed several episodes of Deep Space Nine and took part in several of the video games. More recently
18:15a lovely tribute to Odo is made in an episode of Prodigy. It's the episode titled Kobayashi
18:20and it uses existing dialogue from DS9. It's fair to say that the face of Odo and
18:25Abouzhenwa will be remembered forever.
18:271. Captain Cisco Avery Brooks
18:30Avery Brooks is an actor of course, but also an activist and a highly talented musician
18:35He was already a well-known actor before taking on the role of Commander Cisco. He was the first African American
18:40lead actor in any of the Star Trek series and throughout his time on the show was involved in series
18:45several of the franchise's most well-known takes on civil rights. He actually directs the episode
18:50far beyond the stars in which he stars as a science fiction writer Benny Russell whilst there are
18:55currently no plans for Brooks to return to the franchise. I mean who wouldn't love a Star Trek Cisco series?
19:00His work on Deep Space Nine serves among the most inspirational acting across the franchise. The fact
19:05that he juggled all seven seasons whilst retaining a professorship at a university occasionally
19:10conducting lectures in costume is no mean feat. One of the best actors that the franchise brought on board
19:15Brooks is truly a credit to Star Trek. So there you have it. I've been Marcus Bronzy and this is
