00:00These movie mistakes certainly seem obvious when they're pointed out like this.
00:05Even though the overwhelming majority of viewers have seemingly been too wrapped up in all the...
00:10...excitement to notice.
00:11And in some cases, you have to wonder what the cast and crew were...
00:15...thinking, during both shooting and editing, that they ended up missing something...
00:20...so blatant.
00:21All the same, they are well and truly in your brain now.
00:25Because I am Gareth, this is WhatCulture, and here are 10 more movie mistakes...
00:30...which you can't believe you didn't spot.
00:32Number 10, The Lifeguard's Magic Shoe.
00:35Jaws.
00:36Steven Spielberg's Jaws is such a perfect organism of a movie...
00:40...that it's incredibly easy to forgive its flaws.
00:43Or perhaps even gloss over them in...
00:45...that it's entirely...
00:45Case in point, almost exactly halfway through the film, the shark enters a...
00:50...pond area and attacks a man who is out rowing a boat near Michael Brody.
00:54The man's boat...
00:55...is overturned and he falls into the water with the shark fast approaching him.
00:59At which point...
01:00...we can clearly see that the man is barefoot and definitely not wearing any shoes.
01:05Except a few shots later when the shark devours him, and we see his severed leg hit the...
01:10...bottom of the ocean floor, he's very clearly wearing a white tennis shoe.
01:14Considering...
01:15...how iconic and to kids of a certain age traumatising...
01:18...the shot of the severed leg...
01:20...actually is.
01:21It's honestly surprising that more viewers haven't noticed this discrepancy...
01:25...over the years.
01:26We can assume there was probably some miscommunication between Spielberg and...
01:30...the movie's prop team here.
01:31Or that the actor playing the victim simply removed his shoes without any...
01:35...one noticing.
01:36But we have now.
01:38Number 9.
01:38Aragorn's Vanishing Soul.
01:40The Lord of the Rings, The Two Towers.
01:42Now this one's really weird.
01:44I'm...
01:45And we'll forever change how you view the Battle of Helms Deep in the second Lord of the Rings movie.
01:50Early on in the battle when Aragorn signals his archers to fire, he does so with his...
01:55...disorder, which strangely vanishes into thin air on the downstroke.
01:59As I...
02:00Aragorn swings it towards the screen, only the hilt remains visible in his hand.
02:05With the actual blade components of the weapon magically nowhere to be seen.
02:09Fans have the...
02:10...theirized that this was most likely a VFX-related gaffe.
02:13That part of the shot was masked to...
02:15...enhanced the background of the scene.
02:17Likely adding more archers behind Aragorn.
02:19With the...
02:20...sword's blade accidentally getting erased also.
02:22For a film that's so meticulously crafted...
02:25...it's quite the odd mistake.
02:27And yet the moment passes quickly enough that it's relatively...
02:30...easily missed amid all the battle's excitement.
02:32Now I want to know what is your favorite moment...
02:35...in the Lord of the Rings.
02:36Was it the Battle of Helm's Deep or something else?
02:39Or none of it?
02:40You do you.
02:40Either way, let me know in the comments section below what you think.
02:43Number 8.
02:44Bubba's Lip
02:45Forrest Gump
02:45Michael T. Williamson gives an unforgettable performance in Forrest Gump...
02:50...as Forrest's tragically ill-fated war buddy Bubba.
02:53And one of the character's most distinct...
02:55...physical characteristics is his prominently protruding lip.
02:58This wasn't achieved by...
03:00...simply having Williamson jut out his lip for the entirety of the shoot though.
03:04He actually walked...
03:05...for a subtle lip prosthetic during filming...
03:07...so he didn't have to consciously perform the...
03:10...affectation at all times.
03:11And yet there's one scene where the production presumably forgot...
03:15...to fit the actor with the false lip.
03:17When Bubba and Forrest are riding in a chopper in...
03:20...Vietnam as they go to war...
03:21...look closely at Bubba and his lip isn't sticking out...
03:25...at all.
03:25Quite what went wrong here is anyone's guess.
03:28Hell perhaps the prosthetic just fell off Williamson...
03:30...lip during filming and nobody caught it while cameras were rolling.
03:34A minor mistake...
03:35...for sure.
03:36But one that'll nag you every time you watch it now.
03:38So sorry for that.
03:40Number 7.
03:40Mikey Calls Brand Josh The Goonies
03:43The Goonies is one of the...
03:45...greatest films of the 1980s.
03:47And one that touts an hilarious instance of a young...
03:50...actor accidentally breaking character in the middle of a take.
03:53Roughly 40 minutes into the film...
03:55...Sean Astin's Mikey Says to Brand played by Josh Brolin.
03:58There's something buried...
04:00...under there Josh.
04:01Unintentionally referring to the actor by his real name.
04:05It happens.
04:06While you might not understand how you could have missed such a glaring mistake...
04:09...it's...
04:10It's worth pointing out that Mikey and Brand talk over each other during this exchange.
04:14So the word...
04:15Josh is ever so slightly gabbled when it comes out of Sean Astin's mouth.
04:19All the same, once...
04:20...you know it's there, there's no unhearing it at all.
04:22We can assume the director Richard Donner didn't hear...
04:25...it during editing, or felt it was concealed enough through their banter...
04:28...that it didn't need to be...
04:30...dubbed in post-production.
04:31Number 6.
04:32The Premature Bloodstain The Matrix
04:35Like any FX-heavy blockbuster, The Matrix has a mind-boggling number of moving parts.
04:40And so it's little surprise that the film is packed to the gills with momentary mistakes.
04:45That the Wachowski sisters simply hoped you'd be too enthralled to pay much attention to.
04:49This being...
04:50...the internet though.
04:51Of course people spotted each and every single one of them.
04:54Very...
04:55...is one especially noticeable continuity gaffe late in the film.
04:58When Neo is shot twice...
05:00...by Agent Smith and stumbles backwards into the wall behind him.
05:04Look closely as Neo...
05:05Neo stumbles though, and you'll see that there's already a bloodstain on the wall.
05:09Which...
05:10...needs...
05:10Neo is then falling backwards into...
05:12...despite prior shots of the wall showing no blood whatsoever.
05:15Clearly this was a continuity issue, where the shots were filmed out of order and...
05:20...a crew member either forgot to clean the blood from the wall...
05:23...or the Wachowski simply assumed that nobody...
05:25...we would notice.
05:26Again, we did.
05:27Either way, it's very much a glitch in the Matrix itself...
05:30...that Neo's blood smears itself on the wall before he's even made contact with it.
05:34You sure...
05:35...going up here is no glitch though, and we thank you for that.

05:40Down below, my friends.
05:41Number 5.
05:42The Visible Contrail
05:43Marie Antoinette
05:45Shooting a period film is just a massive pain in the ass, really.
05:48And one of the many reasons that...
05:50...historical movies tend to have higher budgets than contemporary fare...
05:53...is the effort they must make to...
05:55...to accurately capture the period.
05:57And even accepting that Sofia Coppola's Marie Antoinette...
06:00...is willingly packed with anachronistic music and fashion choices.
06:03There is one scene where...
06:05...an out-of-time artefact was most certainly not intended.
06:08Roughly 85 minutes...
06:10...into the film when Marie is playing outside in a meadow with her daughter.
06:14A low-angle shot...
06:15...shows her looking up to the sky.
06:17Where the contrail of an aircraft is very obviously...
06:20...invisible cutting through the skyline.
06:22This is the sort of gaffe which could be removed with...
06:25...relative ease on even home computers these days.
06:28And yet back in 2006...
06:29...Coppola...
06:30...either simply didn't notice...
06:31...or didn't consider it disruptive enough to spend any of the movies...
06:35...spelt $40 million budget correcting it.
06:384. Woody Harrelson's Blatant...
06:40Dubbing Triangle of Sadness
06:41Generally speaking...
06:43...automated dialogue replacement...
06:45...or ADR...
06:46...is a basic enough part of movie production...
06:48...that audiences can't tell...
06:50...when an actor has re-recorded their lines.
06:52Most of the time that is.
06:54But despite...
06:55...winning the Cannes Film Festival's Palme d'Or...
06:57...and scoring numerous Oscar nominations...
07:00...including Best Picture...
07:01...recent class satire Triangle of Sadness...
07:04...features one of the most...
07:05...egregiously bad instances of ADR...
07:07...in any major recent movie.
07:09And yet...
07:10...you probably somehow missed it.
07:12When the imperiled ship's captain...
07:13...is shown discussing politics...
07:15...with Russian oligarch Dmitry...
07:17...he says...
07:17...never argue with an idiot...
07:19...they'll only bring you down...
07:20...to their level...
07:21...and beat you with experience...
07:22...before attributing the quote...
07:24...to Mark Twain.
07:25However, if you look at Woody Harrison's mouth movement...
07:28...it's incredibly obvious he doesn't see...
07:30...and if you're even a half-skilled lip reader...
07:34...you can probably tell...
07:35...that he's actually saying George Carlin.
07:37It's a baffling redub, honestly.
07:40Firstly, because it would have been completely consistent...
07:42...with Harrison's character...
07:43...to incorrectly attribute the quote...
07:45...to Carlin.
07:45And the quote doesn't even belong to Twain, anyway.
07:48This is one of those head-scratches...
07:50...you'll never be able to unsee on repeat viewings.
07:53So, uh, sorry about that.
07:55Number 3.
07:55Ian Markham can't handle binoculars.
07:57The Lost World Jurassic Park.
08:00Okay, now this one is real funny, folks.
08:02Can you even remotely blame Jeff Goldblum...
08:05...whooping around on the set of The Lost World?
08:07Or if you want to be less generous to him?
08:09Failing to...
08:10...to operate a pair of binoculars.
08:12Despite his doctor Ian Markham...
08:13...being a genius mathematician...
08:15...shortly after he arrives on Isla's sauna...
08:17...he picks up Eddie Carr's binoculars...
08:20...to look at the arriving InGen fleet.
08:22Yet he's actually hilariously holding them to his face...
08:25...backwards.
08:25In reality, this would only make the choppers look further away...
08:29...and certainly ensure...
08:30...he couldn't spot the InGen logo on them.
08:32Yet the film itself suggests that Malcolm...
08:35...is indeed operating the binoculars as intended.
08:38What a guy.
08:39One can't put...
08:40...it passed Goldblum for seeing what he could get away with here...
08:42...and accidentally getting a minor prank into...
08:45...to the final cut of the movie.
08:46But at the same time, it's entirely possible...
08:48...he just fumbled picking up the...
08:50...binoculars and ran with it.
08:51Because why not?
08:52Number 2.
08:53Obvious library facade...
08:55...is obvious.
08:56Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.
08:58Much as we all love watching...
09:00...4K restorations of classic movies.
09:02I know I do.
09:03It creates an...
09:05...absolute cluster headache for the filmmakers themselves.
09:08Because higher resolution releases...
09:10...ensure that audiences can pick out mistakes...
09:12...which were not visible on lower detail...
09:15...in the earlier versions.
09:16Case in point, we have Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.
09:19Roughly...
09:20...30 minutes into the movie...
09:21...Indy heads to a Venetian library...
09:23...in pursuit of his father, Henry.
09:24And when he climbs a staircase...
09:26...and discovers the giant X on the library's floor...
09:29...take...
09:29...and look at the bookshelf behind him.
09:31In the 4K version of the film in particular...
09:34...it's a...
09:34...hilariously obvious that the bookshelf...
09:36...is just a thin facade...
09:38...with the books all being super...
09:39...superficial semblances of actual books...
09:41...at absolute best.
09:43Fans went decades...
09:44...is never noticing this on prior releases of the movie.
09:47But in its Ultra HD glory...
09:49...it's incredibly obvious.
09:51Sure, you can try to convince yourself...
09:53...that it's a mere intentional...
09:54...decoration in the world of the movie itself.
09:57But let's be honest...
09:58...it was simply that the production...
09:59...designers never expected...
10:01...that viewers would be able to fixate...
10:02...on a crystal clear high resolution...
10:04...screen grab of their work.
10:06But here we are!
10:07Number 1.
10:08The Visible Soundstage
10:09G.I. Joe Retaliation
10:11The extended cut of G.I. Joe Retaliation opens...
10:14...with a longer fight scene...
10:16...between Snake Eyes...
10:17...and his apprentice, Jinx.
10:18But amid the snappily...
10:19...edited fisticuffs...
10:21...you'll kick yourself...
10:22...for not spotting this outrageous mistake.
10:24When...
10:24...and Snake Eyes flips away...
10:25...from one of Jinx's attacks...
10:27...the rigging of the soundstage...
10:28...where the scene was shot...
10:29...is blatantly visible at the top.
10:32Complete with the lights used for the scene.
10:34Every...
10:34Evidently a VFX artist forgot to mask out...
10:36...the roof of the soundstage...
10:38...and replace it with something that made...
10:39...sense.
10:40Possibly because this scene...
10:41...wasn't completed during post-production...
10:43...for the theatrical video...
10:44...and only hastily finished...
10:46...for the home video extended cut later on.
10:49Either way, considering how damn cool...
10:51...this shot is otherwise...
10:52...it's a shame that due diligence...
10:54...was...
10:54...wasn't undertaken to actually get it done properly.
10:57Then again, how many of you...
10:58...like this movie enough to...
10:59...even bother with the extended cut at all?
11:02Sorry, Joe.
