00:00When there's a fatality I was saying
00:05I need to establish how and why my fate was a killer.
00:11There's a patient breathing.
00:13Confirmed fatality.
00:15Still quite confusing at the minute.
00:161, take the box.
00:17You go to the driver.
00:18I'll go to the passenger.
00:20It's the same as a murder investigation.
00:22Your story was credible until you started telling lies.
00:25When collisions are fatal.
00:27You pronounce the disease.
00:29Oh, yeah.
00:30Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:31Or life-changing.
00:32Cut it for us.
00:33Yes, Chefs.
00:35The crash team is called in.
00:37We're dealing with the worst day of somebody's life.
00:40Split second.
00:41That's it.
00:42Everybody's life has changed.
00:43You only get one chance to cut.
00:45That's insane.
00:46Once that road's reopened, there's no going back.
00:48Police!
00:49You're under arrest.
00:50There's a suspicion of causing that bad anger at all.
00:52He knows very well what's happened here.
00:54The story doesn't stack.
00:55using forensic detective work the answers are there she's no
01:00where to look for them the tiniest detail could solve a case and the latest technology
01:05technical data does not lie dashcam cctv is everywhere the drivers

01:15who look for answers that damage is possibly a deliberate act are you the pill

01:30so
01:35so
01:40collision investigation is very much like a jigsaw puzzle
01:45it's only at the end when you put the jigsaw together in its entirety that you fully understand
01:50what's happened in a collision
01:53if you're not passionate about
01:55investigations we deal with it's a really tough job to do
02:00so
02:05so
02:10someone's just been knocked off the bike on the 857
02:12she's a patient breather
02:15is he breathing
02:18he's breathing joe
02:20should we be able to do
02:21you
02:22are you awake
02:25No, it's not awake, no.
02:27Okay, does his breathing sound noisy?
02:30He's stopped breathing.
02:32He's stopped breathing.
02:33Okay.
02:36Right, tell me exactly what's happened.
02:38I can't come speeding up.
02:40And knocked him off his bike.
02:42And he's late in the middle of the road.
02:45There's an ambulance in the queue that's just put his lights on.
02:48I think it's coming up to us.
02:50Okay, I'm gonna do that.
02:51Are they with the patient now?
02:53See y'all, I guess, yes.
02:55She's doing CPR.
02:56She's doing CPR.
02:57We're just getting a team leader coming, okay?
03:00Alright.
03:01Yeah, we're getting that sorted, okay?
03:05Get up, get up, get down, get up.
03:08Sure.
03:10Limass here when access. Stop cars coming up the 857
03:15towards Tadek. Yes, Chef.
03:20In Sheffield, as traffic officers arrive, medics are fighting to save an 81.
03:25year old man hit by a car at a pedestrian crossing.
03:30Another closure, please. Tadek round about 857 towards
03:35the M1. Yes, Chef.
03:37And if we can request hard closures, please.
03:40At an early stage, also request Forensic Collision CPR still in progress.
03:45Yes, sir.
03:47Yes, yes, honestly.
03:48He's witnessed everything.
03:49Yes.
03:5090 mile an hour it's in.
03:51Right.
03:52Point to impact.
03:53Carry on.
03:54See what they're at.
03:55Carry round about.
03:56Just the goal.
03:55All right.
03:56So it's failed to stop.
03:58It's a failed to stop.
04:00You see this.
04:01The car that has hit him has made off towards Tadek round about.
04:05It's a failed to stop.
04:06Just confirm.
04:07It just bounced up, basically.
04:08Do that.
04:09Yeah, Roger.
04:14With a suspect.
04:15In fact, it hit and run.
04:16South Yorkshire crash investigator Joe Binley is called in.
04:20We're on routes to report of a failed to stop road traffic.
04:25collision which has taken place on the A57 just off of the M1 motorway.
04:30The reports are they've got a seriously injured pedestrian at the.
04:35this time or cyclist.
04:36We're not sure.
04:37It was being worked on by our ambulance staff.
04:41Vehicle detail for that.
04:42Potentially a Golf R.
04:45See if I can get your colour.
04:46Stand by.
04:47Do you know what?
04:48What colour car it were?
04:50Uh, dark.
04:51Yeah, dark blue.
04:52Dark blue.
04:53No fall.
04:54So, apparently it's a.
04:55dark blue coloured Golf R.
04:57That's actually collided with.
04:59The.
05:00Backless.
05:01And then made off.
05:02Yeah, chef.
05:03With a description of the suspect.
05:05Control dispatches of force wide alert.
05:08Yeah.
05:09One.
05:10Um.
05:11She's saying.
05:12Possibly a clone.
05:13Yeah.
05:14That might be aware of.
05:15Roger.
05:16There's a number of reasons why.
05:20people decide not to stop at scenes of collisions.
05:23Sometimes it is out of fear.
05:25So they've driven off because they're scared of stopping.
05:27Or they've not stopped on purpose and it's an intentional.
05:30And they've liked on their part of not stopping.
05:32Because they want to flee the scene because there is something to hide from us.
05:35The.
05:36The.
05:37The.
05:38The.
05:39As Joe responds.
05:40There's an update from the scene.
05:41The.
05:42The.

06:13The.
06:14The.
06:15The.
06:16The.
06:17investigation. Yeah, just to confirm this is now a fatal
06:22fatal. Can I get the number for the coroners please?
06:27Joe will now lead a manhunt for the casualty's killer.
06:32That's the only two witnesses. What have you seen then?
06:37We were coming up here. We were coming to our stop because we were behind this van.
06:41Yeah.
06:42I've seen him fly up in there, not golf shots.
06:44I've seen golf, slow down, then he's shot.
06:47And he went that way.
06:48Yeah.
06:49That went up in there and then that just kept going.
06:52Alright.
06:52Much fun.
06:53We've got two witnesses who were near to the traffic lights and the...
06:57We've got two witnesses at the time of the collision.
06:58And we know that the deceased was believed crossing the road from the left-hand side into...
07:02the central island.
07:03It's now important for us to start working and piecing together and confirming that vehicle.
07:07and trying to locate it and the driver of that vehicle.
07:10I'm just making sure that you're...
07:12aware of that golf that you're seeing with the vehicle is reacted to one of my...
07:17what possibly side about probably an hour ago.
07:21Um...
07:22She might have some dash cam footage, which capture the identity of the driver and everything
07:27that.
07:27It's standing.
07:28Use to yourselves.
07:31Reports of a golf...
07:32Golf R before the collision.
07:35Could provide key evidence.
07:37For Joe.
07:38Dash cam CCTV is so crucial to our investigation.
07:42Someone's version of events can always have a spin on...
07:47what happens.
07:48Whereas a video doesn't lie.
07:50Technical data does not lie.
07:53Yeah, it will be mate.
07:54We think...
07:55it might be this close.
07:57The finding of this vehicle and the suspect is paramount importance not only for...
08:02the evidence that the vehicle can give us to assist us with the investigation into the collision,
08:06but also the...
08:07is a risk to the public.
08:08We know how the vehicle's...
08:09been driven...
08:10from witnesses.
08:11We know what it's just caused.
08:12to the deceased.
08:13So there's a risk to the public that it may do something of a similar nature.
08:17So it's crucial that we take the vehicle...
08:19get the evidence from that vehicle...
08:20and identify the suspect.
08:22I've not been made aware of this potential job just to keep an eye out on board her.
08:27And also, I know AMPR were doing some kind of work.
08:30Have they managed to...
08:32do anything yet?
08:33Police are checking automatic number plate...
08:37recognition cameras for the gulf that fled the scene.
08:40While we...
08:42have been in process of securing the scene and closing the road, a number plate has been
08:46found at the...
08:47at the bottom of the A47...
08:49on the roundabout itself...
08:51that number...
08:52that number plate comes back to a gulf.
08:55We've now got some CCTV footage...
08:57of a gulf with damage to the front end of it...
08:59without a front number plate going round...
09:00Todwick roundabout...
09:01heading in towards...
09:02Kiviton Park area.
09:07Kiviton Park area.
09:09wants to have a banded .
09:11Right?
09:12It's now a matter of trying to trace that vehicle to where it is at its current time.
09:17With forensic work underway at the scene.
09:22Debris in the road may also provide a vital link to the gulf.
09:27It's always concerning that someone has been in such a...
09:32...in such an incident like this one and show disregard to anybody or anyone who's injured.
09:37And left the scene with no reasonable reason why you would do that.
09:42Things do happen, mistakes do get made.
09:47To leave someone on the floor with no one around him is unacceptable.
09:52With Joe and the forensic team leading the investigation, the hunt is on.
09:57For the cyclist's killer.
10:02Of course it is a moment of fire.
10:05The peak Nie
10:07Oh
10:12Oh
10:17Oh
10:19It's three hours since an 81 year old cycling
10:22Was fatally injured at a pedestrian crossing after being hit by a
10:27Speeding Blue VW Golf
10:31Okay, so
10:32Priorities from this point on then, Joe
10:34In terms of where we are with that
10:36CCTV
10:37Footage has been found
10:39Showing the car speeding away after the
10:42Collision
10:44Obviously we're happy that we know it's the
10:47Golf that we suspected being although on the false plates
10:50South Yorkshire collision in
10:52Investigator Joe Binley is leading the case
10:55And updates inspector Matt calling
10:58The footage that we've got from just after the collision at the bottom of the road
11:01We've now
11:02Established a number plate which falls off it
11:06Which we know is
11:07Being used on that vehicle
11:09You can just see
11:10As the vehicle tries to push its way
11:12Through traffic trying to get away from the scene
11:14The number plate falling just to the line
11:16So we're satisfied
11:17That we know the vehicle
11:18As well as showing the identity of the car
11:21The CCTV
11:22Reveals other key evidence
11:25When the vehicle then manages to squeeze its way
11:27Onto the roundabout
11:28You get the first clear view of the damage to the front end of it
11:33We can see the damage to the front bumper
11:35The headlights
11:36And the
11:37Wing mirror
11:41The police
11:42Have intel
11:43That this car is regularly used by a pair of brothers
11:45Who live
11:46In
11:47Neighboring Derbyshire
11:52With
11:54The
11:56Wilation
11:57I'll crack on, guys.
12:02Thank you, everybody, for coming, short notice.
12:07I'll crack on, guys.
12:12Yorkshire planned to arrest the two brothers in an early morning raid.
12:17We're going to go to two addresses in Chesterfield, first one where we've got...
12:22Confirmed information that Kane Byrne is tagging to that location now.
12:27That was checked probably 20 minutes ago now.
12:30There was only a finite amount of...
12:32Offices that we have available to an investigation.
12:34So to have the support of another force and the...
12:37The officers they bring is actually paramount to this investigation.
12:41Adam.
12:42Can you be the arresting officer for Kane if he's located?
12:45As far as I'm concerned...
12:47We know he's in there, so we'll just go straight in and put the door in.
12:50Ned, can you be the arresting officer?
12:52Can you be the second address, please?
12:54Just be aware that both suspects have got...
12:57Warning markers for Escaper.
13:01Kane.
13:02He has extensive history with the police from mine and motoring offences.
13:07Failing to stop, driving with no licences, dangerous driving and not stopping for...
13:12The police.
13:13The police.
13:15The police.
13:16The police.
13:17They are disqualified from driving and shouldn't be driving.
13:19So it's time that they now get processed for the...
13:22the full extent of the law.
13:27These brothers, they've been about the block a long time.
13:32They will do absolutely anything to stop us catching them.
13:37I just feel unique when we pull up at the dressing room.
13:42Would you be able to pull back four players?
13:46The crucial evidence
13:47police need to find is the blue golf.
13:50Yeah, that's just me.
13:52It could contain forensic proof of which brother was driving.
13:57One of the brothers is on tag and he is definitely
14:02at the address according to his tag.
14:04That gives us a power of entry under law to go into that address.
14:07And get him.
14:12All set until the age 3 is about 100% of people.
14:15It is really, really important for us to get lost
14:17and we don't get lost in a world yet.
14:19When we call it, we will kill it.
14:22We have a good journey to the world.
14:26We are all really good to the world on our planet.
14:29We do all of this.
14:33We are about to walk.
14:36So we have a bit of a journey on this land
14:40Police!
14:42Police!
14:43Police!
14:44Police!
14:45Can you come in?
14:46Where is he upstairs?
14:47Can you sit down there for me please, Doc?
14:49.
14:50Put some clothes on Cain.
14:53Yeah.
14:54Right.
14:55At this moment in time, you're under arrest on suspicion of causing death by the injury.
14:59What?
15:00What clothes?
15:01We'll grab some, my colleague will grab clothes for you.
15:05Where's your phone on the side, Cain?
15:07Yeah, that's my mum's.
15:08Yeah.
15:09Where's your phone?
15:10I ain't got one.
15:11You took my phone a couple of days ago.
15:13Nah.
15:14Alright.
15:15Welcome to a car.
15:18With an incident like this.
15:20The feeding time is of the essence.
15:21It takes an amount of time to get through it all in somebody's property.
15:25And in that time, they can be disposing of phones, trying to deliver.
15:30Neat evidence, trying to hide or dispose of things.
15:35What?
15:36What?
15:37What?
15:38What?
15:39What?
15:40What?
15:41What?
15:42What?
15:43What?
15:44What?
15:45What?
15:46What?
15:47What?
15:48What?
15:49What?
15:51What?
15:52What?
15:53What?
15:54What?
15:55What?
15:56What?
15:57What?
15:58What?
15:59What?
16:00What?
16:01What?
16:02What?
16:03What?
16:04What?
15:40At another address in Chesterfield, a second team is closing in.
15:45On the other brother.
15:48All right, ciao.
15:50Hey mate, are you going to come to the door?
15:53Cheers.
15:55It's coming in there, it's coming in there.
16:00It's coming in there.
16:05You're under arrest, especially causing death by being destroyed.
16:07You're not necessarily free.
16:10You're under a prompt and effective investigation.
16:13I'm sort of ferried upstairs, all right?
16:15They know police tactics, so the reason that we needed to deal with these robust...
16:20...and quickly is that they will not hesitate in disposing of evidence.
16:24They will not hesitate in trying to run.
16:27...and quickly is that they'll be able to deal with?
16:31Well...
16:32I will get bored in upper range, but any issues just give us a call.
16:37With both brothers under arrest, police...
16:42...to assess the evidence found at the first address.
16:45By his bed...
16:47...located, found a VW key.
16:49I can't see any VW parts outside at the moment.
16:52Obviously it's VW involved in the incident.
16:54And the keel, they matched with the vehicle.
16:57To see if it is the same key for the vehicle.
17:02There's another VW key in this address as well, but it's like a manual.
17:07The keys could be vital in linking the brothers.
17:12To the hit and run car.
17:14Just watch your stats mate.
17:18These are one of the most serious incidents.
17:21The police...
17:22...the police investigate.
17:23It's on the same level of a homicide investigation.
17:26In this collision...
17:27...when the suspects are a true risk to the public.
17:30So it's important that we investigate.
17:32...and prosecuted them to the full extent of the law.
17:34To reduce that risk.
17:37So I've just come to speak to the...
17:42...fine-armed sergeant that's enforced on this address.
17:45Scott arrives to...
17:47...to oversee the investigation at the second address.
17:51There is still...
17:52...no sign...
17:53...of the blue gulf.
17:57It would be nice to get the car on now.
17:59No, what would be nice...
18:01...is if one of...
18:02...with those car keys.
18:03Yeah.
18:04Either yours or ours.
18:05Because they're both lead-up keys.
18:06We just need...
18:07...one of them to open the car now.
18:08I think they've got enough help.
18:10It's on the outside.
18:11Yeah.
18:12It's got...
18:13You just...
18:14...all you hope is that...
18:15...they've not gone so far as they're burning out.
18:17...or put it in a garage.
18:18Admittedly.
18:19Could be enough lock-up somewhere, couldn't it?
18:22Yeah.
18:23Yeah.
18:24Yeah.
18:25Yeah.
18:26Yeah.
18:27Yeah.
18:27The priority for us...
18:28...is not letting them get to the vehicle...
18:31...to...
18:32...burn it out.
18:33Destroy the evidence before we get to it.
18:36And...
18:37...we can get our forensic teams onto it.
18:42...with the two brothers now in custody.
18:45The clock is ticking to prove who...
18:47...was driving.
18:50Investigators Scott and Joe need to...
18:52...gather enough evidence for a charge...
18:54...before the suspects are released.
18:57...to be done.
18:58We've got the two lads but we've not got the...
19:00We've got the two lads but we've not got the c...
19:02and we've really got that 24 hours whilst they are in custody.
19:07with us to try and locate that vehicle the first priority of continue the
19:12tracking of that vehicle and to hopefully find it nearby so this is
19:17it will lead us to where it's parked at now and then we can get that vehicle recovered and look at exactly...
19:22the contamination to that vehicle both mechanically and forensically for inside which we'll be able to...
19:27place the driver and the suspect in that vehicle.
19:32It's time to try and get to the vehicle before the two suspects get back to it.
19:37And we can't be able to get back to it.
19:42You
19:47May tell you
19:4924 hours after the arrest of the two brothers
19:52Scott receives an update from South Yorkshire
19:55They just been interviewed
19:57And they're going to get bailed shortly
20:01I knew you'd say that
20:02With no trace of the VW Golf
20:06Officers
20:07Are forced to let the men go
20:09Our task is to try and find Max
20:12Trying to get the word out
20:14Because I was in Michael Marcos today
20:17And their
20:19I think their main goal
20:20Is to destroy that car
20:22It's so frustrating
20:23They're going to get bailed
20:24But evidently what have we got?
20:27It's always frustrating
20:28When you know you're so close to something
20:30But you're not close enough
20:33We only have a finite amount of time
20:34We can deal with someone in custody
20:35So it was a decision
20:37To release them
20:38With strict bail conditions
20:39To keep an eye on them
20:40So we know where they are
20:42With the brothers out on bail
20:45With the brothers out on bail
20:46The race is now
20:47From now on
20:48To find the missing golf

20:53To be continued
20:54To be continued
20:55To be continued

21:09Crash investigator Joe Binley
21:11Is leading a case
21:12Of a hit and run collision
21:13That
21:14Killed an 81-year-old cyclist
21:18Graham Slinger
21:19Who was killed
21:20In this devastating collision
21:21Was a man
21:22Who was just about
21:23To celebrate his death
21:24His wedding anniversary
21:25With his wife
21:26He had a son
21:27A daughter
21:28And grandchildren
21:29And although retired
21:30Was fit
21:31As we know
21:32A cyclist
21:33Still had
21:34So many more years
21:35Left to live
21:36And it's the family members
21:37Who now have got to
21:38Come to terms
21:39With the loss
21:40Of Graham
21:39In such devastating circumstances
21:44I met Graham
21:45Oh 64 years ago
21:47When I was only
21:48I met Graham
21:4964 years ago
21:50When I was only
21:51In all the time
21:52Because he was in
21:53Sheffield Racing Club
21:54And I was in
21:55The Baiting Wheelers
21:56When I saw him
21:57When I saw him
21:58I knew
21:59That's what I wanted
22:00And we got married
22:02In 1965
22:03And we'd been together
22:04And we'd been together
22:05Ever since
22:05So something must have
22:07Worked in our favour
22:08It was
22:10Very friendly
22:11I mean
22:12He could go anywhere
22:13And find somebody
22:14To talk to
22:15It was
22:16It was a very outgoing
22:17Chattery box
22:20Change my life
22:24Change my life
22:25Totally
22:26It's just such a shock
22:27Just
22:28Yeah
22:29Just
22:30Not expected at all
22:31We're expecting
22:32To have another few years
22:33Together
22:34With
22:35Doing things
22:36Making more memories
22:37But
22:38We're gone
22:40The most challenging part of the job
22:44The most challenging part of the job
22:45Is that we're dealing with
22:46Someone's lives
22:47Being cut short
22:48And lost
22:49Unexpectedly
22:50No build up to it
22:51Someone
22:52Going about their normal daily business
22:54Doing nothing wrong
22:55At all
22:56And someone else's actions
22:57Has caused their death
22:58I don't know
23:00What I felt
23:01I just could have screamed really
23:03I felt so
23:04Helped
23:05Helpless
23:06You think
23:07That shouldn't have happened
23:08It should not have happened
23:09Yeah
23:10Never want that
23:11For tonight again
23:12Night's horrible
23:15Thinking about it
23:17Thinking about it
23:19Thinking about it
23:20It was absolutely awful
23:21It was absolutely awful
23:25That hope
23:26Of
23:27Even
23:27Must
23:29Help
23:291
23:301
23:30so where are we up to with the footage then four days after the collision
23:35there's still no sign of the suspect's car but there is a breakthrough
23:40we've done a lot of extensive tracking and we now know it goes in towards the killer marsh area
23:45those collected a large amount of cctv and dashcam footage showing the movements of the
23:50gulf before and after the collision so we've got the full timeline now then
23:55yeah so we've got a timeline starting from 10 a.m on the morning of the collision
24:00the fourth of april the footage is vital evidence to prove which of the bro
24:05others was driving it's one thing getting the vehicle but it's trying to put that driver in
24:10the driver's seat and so we know that kane leaves his address via his tag
24:15about 10 o'clock there's then some movement with the gulf in the
24:20morning of the fourth and through to the early afternoon before
24:25the collision where they ended up in rother valley country park and we can see
24:30into the vehicle very slightly through the summary of the vehicle
24:35of the vehicle 42.95
24:36joe's identified 20-year-old cain berne
24:37joe's identified 20 year old cain burn
24:40the younger of the two brothers as the driver it all goes to show that it's
24:45Cain being the driver rather than his brother even though we know he's within the vehicle
24:50and we can see that they use still using the cloned plates on it so
24:55they've been on this vehicle all day and then they've left from a valley back in towards Killamarsh
25:00and then ends up back towards the A57 where we start picking the dash cam up
25:05of the vehicle heading towards the collision site and we've then got the footage where
25:08the collision has now happened
25:10and they've continued
25:15dash cam from another car
25:20and more CCTV clearly show the blue golf speeding away from
25:25the pedestrian crossing with smoke coming from it
25:30followed by the aftermath
25:35we've then got the footage where we've already
25:40looked at
25:40the number plate coming off
25:41yeah absolutely
25:42but then no it turns right
25:45and it goes towards the Hartle area
25:47and we can clearly see now at this point that the front number plate's missing
25:50we can also see the damage to the front of the car
25:52and we can also see the driver
25:55holding in his hand a yellow balloon
25:59balloons are off
26:00often used to inhale nitrous oxide or laughing gas
26:03it's illegal for a
26:05recreational use
26:05it wasn't just a one-off thing
26:07this was a continued use
26:10of balloons and nitrous oxide
26:11throughout the course of the day
26:12which CCTV has proven
26:13which can only
26:15make your driving worse
26:18and then travels along
26:20Eckington Way towards the Waterthorpe area
26:23then enters into Waterthorpe
26:25on Harwood Drive
26:27and this is all post-collision
26:28yeah so this is that
26:30the last bit of footage we're up to is about 28 minutes post-collision
26:34and we
26:35we're still working on where that vehicle then goes from that point
26:38we'll carry on with the CCTV tracking
26:40and start doing street by street search
26:42to see if we can locate the vehicle
26:45CCTV evidence linking the brothers to the blue golf
26:49is
26:50stacking up
26:51but police still need to find the car
26:55so

28:44As you can see, it's got extensive damage to it.
28:49It's going to be quite difficult to get any forensics because it's melted and been destroyed from other...
28:54...to the fire and the water that fire service use.
28:59...the car being destroyed.
29:01Your cap looks like it's out.
29:03Does it?
29:04A forensic officer arrives to photograph and collect evidence.
29:09The fact that that's been removed...
29:13Hmm...
29:14...that it was removed.
29:15I don't know how well they put a rag in on something.
29:17...that it's not...
29:18...the fire...
29:21...then that...
29:22...but the rubber would have done.
29:23Yeah.
29:24But the back doesn't look...
29:25It's damaged, does it?
29:26No.
29:27No.
29:28No.
29:29No.
29:30No.
29:31No.

29:58internal forensic work. However, the dints to the front passenger door.
30:03The wing and the bonnet and on the roof are all very much consistent.
30:08With that damage that we've seen throughout on the CCTV, so although we might have lost
30:13forensic evidence in terms of DNA and fibre and that type of evidence, we can
30:18still say with a lot of confidence that that vehicle is the vehicle.
30:23That would be interesting, do you reckon you get any of that?
30:28The officers spot a towing strap attached to it.
30:33To a tree and the car.
30:35We've clearly put that on to stop the car rolling down.
30:38With it being a rope, there's been friction on it when they've been pulling it and that can also...
30:43result in cellular DNA being transferred onto the exhibit and hopefully we'll be able to get...
30:48something from that.
30:49Because now we've got two crimes, someone's brought that vehicle here and someone...
30:53set fire to that vehicle, so I hope that we'll be able to get something from that strap to be able...
30:58to say who's moved that vehicle.
31:03While the forensics officer continues to look for evidence...
31:07Even though...
31:08I'm just feeling tight, you're still getting a bit off it then.
31:10Yeah.
31:11Joe and Scott spot something out.
31:13Do you think it could have been dropped off on a low load of it?
31:18It may point to a bigger conspiracy to cover the suspect's tracks.
31:24That's perfectly positioned for a recovery truck to be part of it.
31:27Yeah, you can see it in here.
31:28You can't.
31:29Do you know when the bed of the roller goes down?
31:31It's not rolling right.
31:32It does that, doesn't it?
31:33Yeah, it scratches like that.
31:34It scratches there.
31:35It's not possible that that vehicle...
31:38has been there since the time of the offence.
31:40So it's clearly been taking on a low loader.
31:43and dumped at that location where it's been burnt out.
31:46That's fresh, fresh.
31:47No, that's fresh.
31:48Because you can see where the mud is.
31:49There's some scrape markings on the road,
31:51which could be consistent with the bed of a truck.
31:53going onto the road.
31:54So again, I'm going to be asking for any sort of paint transfer.
31:58any marks, anything like that, which might have been used.
32:00Just so we can try and identify what's been used to move that vehicle.
32:03to where it is now.
32:06Police think that after their...
32:08release, it was arranged for the golf to be taken to its current location.
32:13There's been some real thought as to how to dispose of...
32:18essential evidence into a fatal road traffic collision.
32:21Where the vehicle is at the minute...
32:23I would have suspected if it had been there since Saturday,
32:25people would have called us.
32:27It's honest.
32:28It's a difficult path.
32:29It certainly looks out of place.
32:30So for my eyes, that has been moved this morning.
32:33and being set on fire immediately.
32:35For me, it's what they...
32:38they're going to do next.
32:39Yeah, exactly.
32:41They're not going to stop to put in prison, these two idiots.
32:43That's...
32:44That's so much...
32:48Hopefully there's forensic opportunities on the car they've got.
32:53A lot more CCTV, just all little pieces of the jigsaw.
32:58That are coming together nicely to close the net on these two individuals.
33:03The important thing for us to focus on is that there's a victim, a victim.
33:08Family that all need justice for what is a horrendous fail to stop incident.
33:13Justice is, if someone is at fault, them going to court and they'll...
33:18...to the full extent of the law and being able to provide that closure to the family.
33:23Not only that, someone was at fault for this collision and they have been dealt with.
33:28When this all happened...
33:33it was on a run that we did on a regular basis she did exactly what he should
33:38have done he got off his back he waited till traffic lights had turned red
33:43nothing he could have done because he didn't know that they were going to be a nutcase come past
33:48and straight through the traffic lights off his head and what my
33:53main concern at the time was was
33:58did he suffer you don't know I don't know were it instant
34:03ten years that's the only comfort I've got that he didn't know anything about it wouldn't have known anything
34:08about it it would have been a split second of apps yeah yeah yeah it would
34:13I have been out on my bike
34:18since he's gone and it was so not very good
34:23because I'd never been
34:28out for a long long time without him on the back I mean we never went out even with dogs
34:33we just did everything together and it's been so hard to
34:38it's been so hard
34:39it's been so hard
34:43it's been so hard
34:48You
34:53You
34:58You
35:03You
35:05One week after 81 year old Graham Slynn was killed
35:08In a hit and run near Sheffield
35:10They're not going to stop to put in prison these two idiots
35:13A joint
35:13A joint investigation by South Yorkshire and Derbyshire police
35:16Has identified Kane Burnham
35:18As the suspected driver
35:23So obviously we suspect that it's the Burns who are driving the vehicle
35:28We're obviously working in an area where they're known to hang around
35:32And where they used to live before
35:33Moving over into Derbyshire area
35:35After further CCTV searches
35:37There's a
35:38There's another breakthrough in the case
35:41Crash investigator Joe Binley
35:43And states inspector Matt Collings
35:45About where the gulf went after the collision
35:48We found the address
35:49Peely by the CCTV tracking
35:50We've got it going down the first street
35:52And then
35:53Going into this cul-de-sac
35:54The CCTV is crucial
35:56It's an address that's linked to the bit
35:57It's an address that's linked to the bit
35:58The address where the vehicle's been parked at is
36:00Footage shows the blue gulf reversing
36:03Up the cul-de-sac
36:04And parking on a driveway
36:05Just 15 minutes
36:06After the collision
36:08It's that first opportunity
36:10Where we can see the rear number plate
36:12Is the same number plate
36:13Is that what was being
36:14Was found on the street
36:16Crucially
36:17The footage
36:18The footage
36:19Shows who
36:20Was driving
36:21We see Cain
36:22Get out
36:23Is the front
36:24Driver's seat
36:25And walked around
36:26To the front of the vehicle
36:27And his first thought
36:28Is the CCTV inspecting the damage to his vehicle
36:31What we do see as well
36:32Is when
36:33His brother
36:34Gets out of the front
36:35Passing seat
36:36The door doesn't open fully
36:37Because of the damage to it
36:38And then we see Cain
36:39Trying to rub off
36:40A mark from the roof of the vehicle
36:43With this new evidence
36:46Joe and his team
36:47Are confident
36:48Don't they have enough
36:49To re-arrest the brothers
36:53Okay, this interview has been
36:58Audio and visually recorded
36:59And may be given in evidence
37:00If your case is brought to trial
37:0320-year-old Cain Byrne
37:05Has been re-arrested
37:06For further questioning
37:0881-year-old Graeme Slynn
37:10Was struck
37:11By a VW Golf
37:12At
37:1315-15 hours
37:14Whilst crossing the A-57
37:16And died at the scene
37:18We now believe
37:19That you are the driver
37:21Of that VW Golf
37:23In as much detail
37:26As you can
37:27Please
37:28Please tell me
37:29About your involvement
37:30In the death
37:31Of Graeme Slynn
37:32Welcome
37:33Are you responsible
37:35For the death
37:36Of Graeme Slynn
37:37No comment
37:38I want to show you
37:40Some CCTV
37:41I want to show you
37:42Some CCTV
37:43I will explain it
37:44As we go through
37:45Prior to the hit and run
37:47Prior to the hit and run
37:48Witnesses report
37:49Seeing a blue golf
37:50Driving at high speed
37:51Through a red light
37:52Witnesses
37:53Describes that golf
37:54Travelling at speed
37:55Approaching a crossing
37:57A crossing
37:58It did not slow
37:59It didn't falter
38:01They then
38:03See a male
38:04And a bike
38:05Are being launched
38:06Into the air
38:08The golf
38:09Hits this male
38:10And sends this male
38:12At a
38:13at least 15 feet into the air.
38:17Are you aware of that?
38:18No coming.
38:19Are you the male responsible for that?
38:21No coming.
38:23The CCTV footage shows the cyclist lying on the ground just seconds after.
38:28The collision and the blue gulf speeding away.
38:33The car then arrived.
38:38He arrives 10 miles away at the address linked to the brothers.
38:43You can see here the VW has now pulled onto the driveway.
38:49Do you recognize any of these people?
38:52No coming.
38:53Are you one of those people on that CCTV?
38:55No coming.
38:56Is this male here in this blue...

39:04No coming.
39:05No coming.
39:07No coming.
39:08The damage is from the collision with the cyclist.
39:14Covering this car up, is that something that would normally be done?
39:17Or is this only...
39:18only being done because of what has just happened?
39:23No coming.
39:25Police suspect that soon after covering the car up...
39:28It was taken away and hidden.
39:30Have you got anything you want to say about those clips of footage that you...
39:33are now seen?
39:34No coming.
39:36Further CCTV reveals...
39:38more evidence.
39:39It shows the plates being changed the morning before the hidden...
39:43run.
39:44Typically, this is done to hide criminal activity.
39:48And other footage appears to show the driver in...
39:53inhaling laughing gas from a balloon immediately before and after the...
39:58collision.
39:59You can clearly see that...
40:03the males that you're present with...
40:06are...
40:07are...
40:08inhaling balloons.
40:09Police suspect Cain was inhaling laughing gas.
40:13a powerful drug.
40:14Do nitrous oxide balloons...
40:15do they have...
40:16do they have...
40:17do they have...
40:18any impact on you?
40:19No coming.
40:20Is it appropriate to...
40:22use them?
40:23Whilst driving a vehicle.

40:43the victims...
40:43They describe Graham as a husband, a dad and a granddad.
40:48And his family describe him as a gentle, funny.
40:53And kind to his core.
40:58How does it make you feel hearing that about Graham?
41:03Are you the person that's killed?
41:08Well, Graham Slim.
41:09No, I'm not.
41:13No, I'm not.
41:18No, I'm not.
41:23No, I'm not.

42:17At court.
42:22Cain Byrne pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving.
42:27Whilst disqualified and with no insurance.
42:32The passenger faced no charges in relation to this incident.
42:37One of the most important investigators we'll ever look into is how someone's died.
42:42They're not just the thing, that's someone's loved one.
42:45It's my investigation.
42:47I'll always deal with it the best of my abilities, but I will never feel the same way that the family feels about it.
42:52The loss of Graham.
42:55Graham Slyne's family was in.
42:57In court.
42:58To see Cain Byrne sentenced to prison.
43:02He's got a sentence of 16 and a half years with 11 and a half years.
43:07Behind bars.
43:08And he won't be able to even apply for parole.
43:12For at least seven years.
43:16It seems.
43:17It seems harsh.
43:18Because he's only 21.
43:20But he's been given.

43:32That time is now.
43:33When I go to church.

43:57He's got.
43:58With his dad in prison.
43:59You can only hope.
44:00That.
44:02He will change his.
44:03Behaviour.
44:04And come to real life.
44:07That what he has done.
44:08Is wrong.
44:09And he didn't need to do that.
44:12No percent of fear of him.
44:13No telling of buried he.
