00:00Canned tuna recalled in nine states over botulism risk.
00:05The Food and Drug Administration has issued a recall notice for certain canned Genova
00:09brand tuna products.
00:10Sold in nine states after a distributor mistakenly shipped products that had
00:15already been pulled from circulation over a botulism risk.
00:19According to the
00:20FDA, the tuna was part of an earlier recall issued in February 2025.
00:25By Tri-Union Seafoods, the company that owns and manufactures the Genova
00:30brand.
00:31The company had flagged a defect in the can's easy open-pull tabs that could
00:35weaken the seal over time, allowing leaks or contamination.
00:40The owners were supposed to remain quarantined.
00:42Instead, a third-party distributor accidentally
00:45sent some of them back into retail supply.
00:48The concern now, though, has to do with
00:50the likely presence of Clostridium botulinum, bacteria that cause botulism.
00:55and a rare but serious form of food poisoning that can lead to paralysis and can eat
01:00even be life-threatening.
01:01The FDA says the risk comes not from visible spoilers
01:05but from the compromised packaging, meaning the tuna may look and smell normal.
01:10So, it's probably best not to rely on your senses to judge if it's safe.
