00:00I'm going to get your patience, please.
00:30They're good! They're good! They're good! They're good!
00:38Fuck ICE! Fuck ICE!
00:44YOU FUCKing luck! Take over here pushing people! What's your name and badge number? What's
01:05your name and badge number? Unfortunately, we can still see your face.
01:08Almighty you.
01:11There's been a lot of confusion and concern in Italy about reports that officers from U.S.
01:17Immigration and Customs Enforcement are going to be taking part in the Winter Olympics in Italy.
01:21Now, the concern is about President Donald Trump's mass deportation agenda, and ICE is really the
01:27agency that is most responsible for carrying out that agenda. And a lot of Italian politicians have
01:33simply said, we don't want ICE here. But there's a lot of nuance about ICE and about the units that
01:39make up ICE that are important to note here. Part of ICE is enforcement and removal operations.
01:45Those are deportation officers, the ones most closely responsible for carrying out the deportation,
01:52the arrest, the deportation of people in the country. But there's also a unit called Homeland
01:56Security Investigations, HSI. Those are the agents that are going to be going to Italy. HSI agents
02:03generally do things that have some sort of a cross-border nexus, investigations like
02:08human trafficking, drug smuggling, trying to find lost, stolen cultural artifacts. And
02:15they often take part in international events like this because of their expertise.
02:38Now, to be fair, under the Trump administration, Homeland Security Investigations have been doing more
02:48immigration enforcement work. And they do sometimes work closely with deportation officers. But there's
02:54no indication that they're going to be doing anything like that here in Italy. And there's
02:57no indication that deportation officers are going to be part of the officers going to Italy. And working
03:03in these big international events is something that HSI does quite frequently. The Department of Homeland
03:09Security has said that they will not be doing immigration enforcement while they're in Italy,
03:13and that they are going to be going there to help mitigate the risks of transnational crime.
03:19And that is something that HSI has experienced dealing with.
