Qui est… Jonathan Varane 🇫🇷 🇲🇶 ?

Né le 9 septembre 2001 à Lille, Jonathan Varane grandit dans l’ombre d’un nom déjà bien connu du football français. Demi-frère de Raphaël Varane, champion du monde 2018, il suit pourtant un chemin bien différent, marqué par la patience et la progression. Très tôt, il intègre le centre de formation du RC Lens, où il passe plus de dix ans à se construire, occupant plusieurs postes avant de s’installer durablement au milieu de terrain.  Formé initialement comme attaquant puis milieu relayeur, Jonathan Varane évolue progressivement vers un rôle de milieu défensif. Cette polyvalence forge son profil et lui permet de signer son premier contrat professionnel en 2021. Il connaît alors une unique apparition en Ligue 1 avec Lens en décembre 2021, avant d’être prêté à Rodez en Ligue 2. Le prêt est court et peu concluant, avec seulement six rencontres disputées, et Lens décide de ne pas prolonger son contrat.  À l’été 2022, il fait le choix de partir en Espagne et rejoint le Sporting de Gijón. Ses débuts sont compliqués, puisqu’il passe plusieurs mois avec l’équipe réserve. Mais à force de travail, il parvient à intégrer l’équipe première début 2023 et s’impose progressivement comme titulaire lors de la seconde partie de saison, au point de prolonger son contrat jusqu’en 2027.  Après une saison suivante plus irrégulière, Jonathan Varane franchit un nouveau cap en août 2024 en rejoignant Queens Park Rangers en Championship. En Angleterre, il s’impose rapidement, enchaîne les matchs et devient un élément important de l’effectif, marquant même son premier but en FA Cup début 2025.
