00:00Hey, you're not nervous I'm going to embarrass you in front of your old captain, are you?
00:06Of course not.
00:07I don't know why I'm so anxious.
00:09Russ has always been one of my biggest champions.
00:11He's the one that pushed me to go to Officer Kennedy's squad for my first tour.
00:14Well, I'm sure he's not coming all the way to L.A. so that he could tell you he's disappointed in you.
00:18I just wish he would give me some sort of idea what this is about, but that's Russ.
00:22There she is!
00:23Hey, Russ!
00:24This is so good to see you!
00:26John Nolan.
00:27Colonel Russell Wilkes, please call me Russ.
00:30It's a pleasure to finally meet the man behind the story.
00:32Yeah, likewise. Sit down.
00:35Really appreciate you being here, John.
00:37No, I didn't give away too much over the phone, but what I'm here to discuss would affect both your lives.
00:42Seems only fair to include you in the conversation.
00:44The SecDef has tasked me with putting together a working group inside the Pentagon.
00:48Wow.
00:48A team of my own choosing, who Spearhead bring the battlefield medicine in with the 22nd century.
00:53It's the most consequential assignment in my career, and you are the first person I'm asking to be a part of this.
01:00I mean, it's an honor just to be nominated.
01:03Totally.
01:04Russ is a genius.
01:05He could recruit anyone for this working group, and the fact that he called me first, I mean, that's pretty great.
01:11Yeah.
01:12A hundred percent.
01:13That's so cool.
01:13But, I mean, our life is perfect right now.
01:16There's no way we're messing that up.
01:17No way.
01:19Perfect.
01:25Police, get down!
01:26This is Bailey Noon, L.A.S.D.
01:28I need an R.A. to Central Station Market.
01:30There's a male GSW victim.
01:32He's been shot in the head, in the back.
01:34Two suspects.
01:34Black hoodies, masks, and pants.
01:36One-headed east towards Broadway in pursuit of second suspect.
01:40Move, move!
01:40Why are you texting me when I'm right here?
02:09Letting you sleep.
02:11That's sweet.
02:12Wait, are you looking at real estate?
02:14We have to upgrade.
02:16We need more room.
02:17A second.
02:18Tub, a closet that fits all our clothes.
02:21I mean, yeah, sure, that would be nice, but we created our family here.
02:25Which I love, but now we're bursting at the seams, and Mama's ready to crack open that trust fund and get crazy.
02:30I'm not sure I like the sound of that.
02:32Tough.
02:33We have money.
02:34Uh, no, we have some money, but housing prices and a lair are insane.
02:41I guess it couldn't hurt to see what's out there.
02:43I love that you've learned to roll with me rather than resisting.
02:46Yes, you have successfully broken my spirit.
02:48Yay!
02:49Yay.
02:51Quickie before the kids wake up?
02:53Oh, um, whoa.
02:58Mom, come here!
02:59Too late.
03:03I like this one.
03:04I bet you could hang a swing set from that tree right there in the back.
03:08That was my favorite until I saw this.
03:10It has a pool and a gym and a screening room.
03:15Wait, hold up.
03:15You got screening room kind of money?
03:17Depends on which one of us you ask.
03:19Wesley is the king of frugality, so he would definitely say no, but I lived on credit cards until I met him, so I'm way more comfortable pushing the envelope.
03:26Hey, Nolan, did you tell Officer Hart that the shooters last night were furries?
03:32No, I said they were wearing hoodies.
03:35Are you taking the case?
03:36Yeah, do you mind just walking us through it?
03:38Yeah, uh, Bailey and I were coming back from dinner at Central Station Market.
03:41Date night?
03:42No, her former commanding officer came to offer her a job, a Pentagon think tank.
03:47Wow, you really married outside of your league.
03:49I know, right?
03:50So is she gonna take it?
03:51No, uh, it would mean relocating to D.C., so it's a non-starter for us.
03:54I mean, it might be a non-starter for you, but I guarantee that your overachiever of a wife is seriously thinking about it.
03:59No, actually, she was laughing it off when we talked about, oh my God, she's actually thinking about it seriously.
04:06Okay, well, no, no, if that's something she really wants to do, relocating to D.C. could be cool.
04:10It's not.
04:11I spent time there during my joint ops days.
04:13It took me about three weeks to unclench every time I came home.
04:16Thank you for that insight.
04:18So, any clarity on the victim?
04:20Fred Wilson, 48, CPA, married, no kids, no criminal record.
04:24Making him an unlikely candidate for a targeted assassination.
04:28Is there anything else about the shooters that you didn't give heart?
04:31Sorry, I did not get a good look at them.
04:33What about CCTV, anything there?
04:35They were pretty covered up, but take a look at this.
04:39Uh, looks like the litter's SF, that would make him Southern Front, no visible tattoos on the second shooter.
04:51Huh.
04:52Yeah.
04:53So, why would a member of a white supremacist gang partner up with a black man to execute a civilian in broad daylight?
04:59I told you he'd spot it, and you trained him well.
05:01Could be that our innocent CPA was helping the Southern Front to launder money, or maybe he had a drug problem and owed them money.
05:08We're trying to get the ME to rush the talk screen, but he's dodging our calls.
05:12Oh, Santa Moore, I'll go deliver the ask in person. Let me collect my boot.
05:18Hey, do you know what this is?
05:21An iron?
05:22You know what it's not? A machete.
05:23I am due in court in two hours to testify about a man attacking people on a bus with a machete.
05:28Okay, something must have got switched around in the evidence locker. We'll figure it out.
05:31No, no, the case is time not waived. If we don't find it fast, that psycho is going to be let free.
05:36Okay, have you told the prosecutor?
05:37No, it's Wesley, and I am just trying to keep him in blissful ignorance as long as possible.
05:42Help me.
05:43That's the case number.
05:44No, I know, but it's wrong.
05:46The case number isn't wrong. The item might be wrong, but numbers are just numbers.
05:51Fine. Um, so the point is, I have to be at court, uh, and I need that machete, like, ASAP.
05:58Case number?
05:59Oh, okay.
06:00Well, we're not going to find out by using the case number. The number's got switched.
06:03Well, if you don't have the case number, then I can't help you.
06:05Oh, Wesley's going to kill me.
06:06Okay, it's, uh, maybe it's just a typo, right? The first eight numbers are the date.
06:11The crime was on January 20th. Try 2010-2026.
06:18Try 02-01-2026.
06:22Wow.
06:2320-01-2025.
06:25Are you sure you used the new data entry procedure? We changed it a few months ago.
06:34Of course I did. I keep...
06:35But I wasn't the one who logged the entry because you wouldn't approve the overtime.
06:40I had Smitty do it.
06:41What the hell is your problem?
06:45Uh, good morning?
06:47I have bent over backwards to treat you well, and this is how you repay me.
06:51I don't... I'm sorry. I don't know what's happening right now.
06:53Like hell.
06:54You know, your little innocent act would be a lot more believable if they weren't in your office.
06:57Just know this. If you go through with it, I will do everything in my power to absolutely destroy you.
07:09Hi. Who are you? What are you doing in my office, and why has it sent Vivian into a rage spiral?
07:13Rita Sanchez, this is Bradley Wirth. We work with the Democratic Party, and we want you to run for district attorney.
07:20And now it makes sense.
07:22That's a hard no for me, by the way, but thanks for stopping by.
07:24Look, you obviously know that Vivian Eckhart's running on a post since Del Monte dropped out of the race.
07:27Yeah, but that was a month ago. Why come to me now?
07:30Candidly, we've been having a hard time finding someone to take up his mantle.
07:34So I'm your last choice?
07:36Hardly.
07:39Look, Mr. Evers, I wish there was time for us to do our usual dance of seduction and ego stroking,
07:45but as you rightly pointed out, we're up against it.
07:47The deadline to enter this race is in three days.
07:49And Vivian becoming DA is worst-case scenario for the people of the city.
07:52I mean, she has the most regressive record in your office.
07:54Oh, I agree, but there's zero chance of me beating her. I was temporarily disbarred.
07:58Because of your dealings with Elijah Stone, we know.
08:00Yeah, and we are prepared to embrace that.
08:02I mean, you're a hero who put his life and career on the line to take down a very dangerous kingpin.
08:07Voters love a man who's willing to stand up for what's right.
08:09Not to mention, you're married to a cop, which automatically makes you a more attractive candidate
08:13to anyone worried that progressive means soft on crime.
08:16Look, I don't want Vivian to win any more than you do, but I...
08:20But nothing. A Vivian victory will hurt a lot of people.
08:23And right now, you're our last hope at stopping her.
08:25It may be a long shot, but isn't it worth the risk?
08:31I thought you didn't have time to stroke my ego.
08:32You have to let me see him.
08:36I don't, actually.
08:37On TV, the family has to identify the body.
08:40Yeah, we don't do that anymore.
08:41That's right, ma'am. It's no longer policy.
08:44But trust me, it's for the best.
08:46Seeing your loved one like that, it changes how you remember them forever.
08:51I don't understand.
08:53Fred was a saint.
08:54Why would someone want to kill him?
08:56Well, that's what we're trying to figure out.
08:58He's really dead?
08:59Yes, ma'am. I'm afraid so.
09:02And we are so sorry for your loss.
09:05Okay. Thank you.
09:10Thanks for the assist.
09:12Grief makes people a little crazy,
09:14and I don't like dealing with them when they're normal.
09:16Why? You work with the dead, I suppose.
09:20Anything jump out at you, the preliminary autopsy?
09:23No. A run-of-the-mill gun homicide.
09:25The bullet to the head killed him instantly,
09:27but the shot to the body was fatal as well.
09:29Any signs of drug use?
09:30No, but the talk screen is underway.
09:33I'll let Harper and Lopez know the second it comes in.
09:35Perfect. Thank you very much.
09:37I once had a widower insist on seeing his wife's body
09:39back when I was in Sugar Land.
09:41Ended up suing the city for mental anguish.
09:43Did he win?
09:44No.
09:45Case got dismissed when he was convicted of her murder.
09:47Wow.
09:49Wait, let her go.
09:51Whoa!
09:52Hi, hi.
09:53It's all good.
09:54She's fine.
09:55I'm fine.
09:55Yeah, I can see that.
09:57But two minutes ago, you were grieving.
09:59I'm still grieving.
10:00It manifests itself in unknowable ways.
10:03Right.
10:03But you brought your boyfriend to help you identify your husband's body?
10:06Well, I needed emotional support.
10:09She's very sensitive.
10:11Yeah.
10:12Well, you can emotionally support each other on the way to the station.
10:14Let's go.
10:15Oh.
10:16This way.
10:17This way?
10:17Yes.
10:17Okay.
10:18Put your hands down.
10:19Yes, sir.
10:19Wow.
10:20I know this looks bad.
10:24Understatement.
10:25Your husband was murdered, and in less than 24 hours, you were getting busy with your side
10:29piece down the hall from his body.
10:31I didn't even want to be there.
10:33I told Faith it would look weird, but she insisted.
10:38So you were just trying to be a good boyfriend?
10:40Todd is a terrible boyfriend.
10:43He's a lot of fun, but anything that requires emotional depth.
10:46Okay, what about Fred?
10:47What was he like?
10:48He was always super cool any time that I came by.
10:51You're saying Fred knew about the affair?
10:53It wasn't an affair.
10:54It was an open marriage.
10:57The whole thing was Fred's idea.
10:59Guy wanted a little bit of peace.
11:01Is it possible that Todd wanted you all to himself?
11:04Listen, I am twice divorced.
11:07I am still paying halimony to the first.
11:09I am not trying to put a ring on it.
11:12There's a reason why Todd is divorced.
11:15Todd is a good time.
11:17Like Coney Island.
11:19Fred, on the other hand, was deep and soulful and romantic.
11:27Like Paris.
11:29Coney Island is fun to visit, but you don't move there.
11:34Oh, hurt Paris.
11:36What do you think?
11:37I think people are crazy.
11:38But neither of them is a physical match for the shooters.
11:41Still doesn't rule out murder for hire.
11:43Yeah.
11:44Did you put Wesley up to this?
11:46No idea what you're talking about, but if it's pissing you off, I'm happy to take credit.
11:50If he insists on moving forward, I can't guarantee that I'll be able to keep you out of the crossfire.
11:57Did she just threaten me?
11:58Sure seems like it.
12:00But why?
12:01No idea.
12:02But I'm gonna find out.
12:04Oh, husband!
12:04You only call me husband when you're mad.
12:08What did I do?
12:08You tell me.
12:09Vivian just stopped by.
12:11She told you I was running for DA.
12:13Wait, you're running for DA?
12:15Since when?
12:15No, no, no.
12:16Wait, it got sprung on me this morning.
12:17What does that mean?
12:18Some people came to talk to me about taking over Sean's campaign.
12:20And you told them no.
12:22I did.
12:23Initially.
12:24But...
12:24But...
12:24Now you're thinking about it?
12:27I mean, I'd at least like to discuss it.
12:29But I am supposed to be on my way to court right now.
12:31Only Lucy texted to tell me that our key piece of evidence is missing.
12:34So is there any chance that we can just table this until tonight?
12:37Fine.
12:37But only because yelling at you in the bullpen might come across as unprofessional.
12:41I love you.
12:47Everything okay?
12:48Are you free for dinner tonight?
12:49Depends.
12:50Can I bring James?
12:50As long as you tell him he has to be Team Lopez on the penalty of death.
12:55We'll be sure to prep him.
12:58I remember Lucy gave me the machete and I logged it like I always do.
13:02Okay, so that right there is the problem, Smitty.
13:04The system changed.
13:06Most of the world uses day, month, year.
13:07Month, day, year was causing all of these issues for us with our international cases,
13:11which is why we switched.
13:13You know, didn't you read the memo?
13:15Sorry, wait.
13:16I just heard that out loud.
13:17Of course you didn't.
13:18Important memos are always covered in the roll call.
13:22Why do I have a panicked ADA knocking on my door to ask for my help to find a missing machete?
13:27Because Smitty was enlisting when he went over the change in how we filed case numbers.
13:31What, the day, month, year thing?
13:33Yeah.
13:33I didn't go over it.
13:35My last day as watch commander was crazy.
13:36I left it for you to do.
13:38I thought you handled it.
13:39Oh, it's not my fault.
13:40It's yours.
13:40Everyone got the memo.
13:41It's still your fault, Smitty.
13:42Well, it's still on him for trusting me.
13:44I didn't trust you.
13:45I thought he covered it and I just didn't follow up.
13:47I can't believe I dropped the ball out.
13:48I don't care whose fault it is.
13:49I need the machete.
13:51Smitty used the old system, right?
13:53Try 01-20-20-26.
13:56I can't.
13:57It's a drop-down menu.
13:58There's no 20th month.
13:59Well, so you can enter the 20th month, but you can't retrieve the 20th month?
14:02Correct.
14:02No, that's wrong.
14:03It shouldn't work that way.
14:04But that is how it works.
14:06Wesley says the judge is losing his patience.
14:09If you can't produce the evidence, he's prepared to dismiss the case.
14:12Guys, this is bigger than one case.
14:14Everything Smitty allowed has been misfiled.
14:16Going back two months.
14:19Did the widow shed some light?
14:20Not exactly, but her doorbell cam did.
14:22This is from two days ago.
14:23The car is registered to a Ryder Frost, known member of the Southern Front.
14:28Well, that tattoo is a match.
14:29Definitely could be our shooter.
14:30Any idea who the other fella is?
14:31Not yet, but his tats are 54th Street Gang.
14:33Besides the racial element, don't SF and the 5-4 compete for the same meth business?
14:38They did up until a few months ago when the Armenians pushed Southern Front further into the valley.
14:42But they are certainly not allies.
14:44They cased the garage, but not the house.
14:46Any idea what they were looking for?
14:48We've got a last known for Ryder.
14:49We're hoping you go ask him.
15:00Wait!
15:03Control in the pursuit of Southern Backup.
15:06Green Royal Lake Apartments, some backup.
15:12Rolling around, making a fool.
15:16Black cover, saying anything as well.
15:20Kids on the park, you're a fake Andy.
15:23Come on, come on.
15:24Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
15:28That's his third floor, Eddie, for the roof.
15:30Come on, Ryder.
15:44There's nowhere to go.
15:45Put your hands on your head.
15:46Down on your knees.
15:47i'm sorry are these cases from the future apparently the system didn't know what to do
16:14with month 20 and so it just made the math work and 12 months plus eight is august 2027 cases from
16:2021st become september of next year and so i this is unbelievable the judge granted a continuance
16:25but we need the machete by noon tomorrow yep don't worry we will have it i'll stick around i feel
16:29responsible it's completely on me i don't should have clarified you are on your way out okay you
16:33guys are both spartacus okay let's please start opening the boxes are you coming no
16:37russ i thought you had a flight to catch i do but i couldn't leave la without making one last appeal
16:44well i guess you better come in then thank you oh really made a nice life for yourself here noon
16:52i can't uh i can see why you'd hesitate before giving her it up but anything i can say to convince
17:00you can i ask why i'm not a doctor or a scientist i don't have a phd why are you asking me maybe
17:09i've been around long enough to know that having a few extra letters after your name doesn't make
17:12you a genius i also know that if i bring you a problem you won't rest until you've looked at it
17:16from every conceivable angle twice before bringing me a solution what if i can't find a solution hell
17:22girl that's why they call it a think tank does me no good to have a bunch of identical people with
17:26identical viewpoints looking in identical directions baseball team can't be all pitchers need somebody
17:32to play shortstop all right i miss my flight if i don't get going so you know it take a few days
17:37to think about it talk it over with your man and call me i will
17:42you know noon if you don't want the job because it's not the right fit or the right time that's
17:49fine i get it but deciding that you're not good enough before somebody else can
17:52that's the coward's way and i know you're not a coward no sir i'm not
18:00giddy up
18:05yeah all right okay thanks for the update suspect in the central station market shooting fell to his
18:19death that's awful yeah i got that he was an action hero trying to leap between two buildings
18:22any leads on the second shooter no but the brass has been blown on my phone
18:26you know a guy falls to his death in a police pursuit everyone's got questions
18:29captain always a pleasure
18:32i do not miss that i don't think i've seen him sleep more than four consecutive hours since he took
18:38this job i know being sidelined for the president's visit shook him up and even though
18:43it was more of a cya decision by the brass an indictment on his performance the optics weren't
18:48great for him do you think you should be worried i think that watch commander is a thankless job
18:53you're not in the field but you're responsible for every knucklehead that is patrol officers want
18:57resources you can't give them the brass expects results that you realistically can't produce and
19:03when there's bad press and they're looking for a head to roll right i don't think of it that way
19:07because i made it look easy you'll get the hang of it
19:11hey that sounds horrible it wasn't pretty that's for sure nolan and i barely had time to
19:30twist before it was all over so where does that leave the case still trying to id the second shooter
19:35hey did you know the armenians pushed the southern front's message rate deeper into the
19:43deeper into the valley yep happened a few months ago i just read every gang report the department
19:47puts out and i haven't seen anything about that yeah see those reports only get you so far i mean
19:51the best information is usually through word of mouth which is great for me because i know people
19:56from all over the city well how can i compete with that when i just got here it takes time to
20:01cultivate that kind of trust true but i mean you'd be shocked by what some of these low-level
20:05game makers put on social media the ellie gang subreddit is a great resource look i gotta stay up
20:11anyway i've got a 2 a.m zoom date with raj why don't i show you some of my favorite accounts to
20:16follow who knows you might see something on writer all right let's go coach i'm ready
20:22hey good to see you you too how you doing thought we might need this
20:27oh very thoughtful what do you guys think should we crack it now or save it for dinner my vote is
20:32now okay and don't be stingy with the pores
20:35everyone clear on the plan oh yes yes james snows agree with everything you say and keep the
20:42starry-eyed reformer talk on our minimum perfect operation kilotrain as it go
20:47mm-hmm he has a point we complain all the time about undocumented witnesses being too scared to
20:53testify instituting a policy that would protect them from deportation that would be a game changer
20:59i thought they're supposed to be team lopez i know but it's a good idea i'm not saying it's not a good
21:05idea but i think we're getting away from the larger point which is we'd be opening our lives up to
21:10public scrutiny which would be hard enough for you and me and i worry what it'll do to the kids
21:16so do i but i also want them to grow up knowing that their father is willing to fight
21:21for the rights of everybody even when it's difficult hey man look you started it think
21:28of what i'd be in the position to influence as the da i could end cash bail expand victim services
21:35emphasize counseling institutional change is always hard right but does that mean that i shouldn't try
21:40what about the house yeah well we would probably have to wait on that i mean optics would and you'd be
21:45fine letting public perception dictate how we live our lives in service of real reform
21:50maybe real change requires sacrifice but i would not do it at the expense of our family i would need
21:58to know that you're on board 100 percent
22:00hello whoa something smells good because i cooked
22:09more than cooked candles should i be worried no not at all i just know you had a really hard day
22:16and i want to do something nice for you oh uh-huh and uh what do you really want in exchange for this
22:24totally no strings attached feast a conversation about dc i didn't know we needed to have one i know
22:33and that is my fault but all day i have not been able to get this idea out of my head
22:40and russ stopped by on the way to the airport and gave me his final appeal and it made me question
22:46why i was so quick to shut it down well and before you tell me no or give me 100 reasons why it won't
22:52work all i ask is that you spend some time to explore the idea and by that you mean see what
22:58transferring to dc police would look like make some calls ask some questions kick the tires and
23:06what if we come to different conclusions we abort the mission either we're both in
23:11or both out we need both keys to launch the torpedoes yes what do you think
23:19i think i want you to be happy and if this is something you want then i will do
23:25everything i can from my end to see if it's feasible we're in this together
23:31is it just me or these numbers starting to blend together it's not just you okay everything okay
23:42with the brass rider's death was ruled in accidents but there's always a chance they could reopen the
23:48case or blame me for this whole evidence logging mess hey just take the win you're right
23:55look i swear if i lose watch command because of smitty that's not gonna happen i have been manifesting
24:01that we will find this machete all day manifesting god i got you away from waters just in time
24:10you gotta be kidding me
24:14oh my god
24:19thank god all right let's go home
24:24wait where are you a yurt in finland the northern lights have been amazing the last few nights
24:30jealous i know i wish you were here to see them with me me too i miss you hey selena i might have
24:36found something so ryder is that miles hey miles hey man how's the great white north he saw the aurora
24:41oh cool who's ryder a suspect in a murder well that sounds important do you need to go no just
24:46give me one second what's up okay so i was looking through ryder's jewelry file between the ages of 9 to
24:5214 he lived in four different foster homes one was located in the 54th street territory foster parents
24:57were mabel and rafael sinclair and rafael died a few years ago heart attack but look at what i found on
25:03mabel
25:07uh babe i'm sorry i gotta go no worries uh have fun solving your murder we will
25:16this is mabel sinclair most of the kids in the neighborhood just call her mom
25:20since they know whatever they need food a place to stay clean clothes mabel will hook them up well last
25:25week mabel was a victim of a hit and run while crossing her street witnesses saw a red sedan
25:29speeding away from the scene but no arrests have been made anyone care to guess what kind of car
25:33fred wilson drove all right camry so you think fred hit mabel oh more than that selena ran his
25:39vent and found the body shop doing the repairs on his car the bumper tested positive for blood french
25:45sticks are running the sample what's ryder's connection to this woman oh mabel was his foster mother
25:49that's the second shooter that is keeson homes 22 proud member of the 54 and former foster brother
25:58to rider frost so they murdered fred wilson as revenge for killing mabel well mabel wasn't dead
26:08all i remember is going out to bring my trash cans in and then waking up here and they told me it was a
26:15uh a hit and run unfortunately the man suspected of hitting you with his car was murdered we have
26:20reason to believe your former foster sons ryder frost and kingston homes want a revenge for what happened
26:26to you it was painful enough losing ryder and kingston to the streets i don't think i can take knowing that
26:34they killed a man because of me we're very sorry but i'm afraid that's not all ryder died yesterday trying
26:42to jump between rooftops they were just hurt little boys underneath it all you know when ryder first
26:50came to us he was so shut down he barely said two words to me that first month the kingston he always
27:01had this way about him this lightness even after all he'd been through
27:07but then they started to do everything together and bit by bit
27:19i got to see ryder for the sweet sensitive boy he was what happened ryder's mom came back into the
27:29picture with her skinhead boyfriend and once he was gone all of kingston's light went with him
27:38he started to act out getting in trouble and he was finally put away on some trumped up vandalism
27:49charge and then he joined the gang in prison and suddenly the two boys i saw become brothers
28:01were turned into mortal enemies by the streets i'm sorry for how much pain this has caused you but
28:10we'd like to bring kingston in without any more bloodshed do you have any way of contacting him
28:15what do you want me to say hey the judge signed off on the wiretop we should be good to go in a few
28:25great uh what you were saying yesterday about dc and needing to unclench it can't be that bad right
28:34i'm all right maybe i've just i've been spoiled by la i'm sure the city has a lot of great things about it
28:39but from what i saw being a cop there just means a lot of crowd control around government offices
28:45usually in crappy weather snowstorms in the winter swamp like humidity in the summer you get two weeks
28:53of cherry blossoms a year and that's about it oh also speaking as someone who thought transferring to
28:59another department would be easy be prepared to relearn everything you thought you knew
29:03yeah all right we gotta go
29:18mama it's me baby oh thank god i tried to visit you and ask you but they said blood family only they
29:24made it sound like you were dying well i am a little banged up but i'll be all right i wish i could come
29:30see you well me too you heard about ryder uh you know me and ryder don't really mess with each other
29:40anymore he's dead baby killed running away from what your boys did i don't know what you're talking

35:22Go
35:24Drop the gun
35:28The key is processed
35:48Ah, thank you for that
35:49Um, look, I realize this was a bit of a tough one
35:53You alright?
35:54I'll be alright
35:55I know I shouldn't feel sympathy, but he's just a boy
36:00Look, no one is saying you can't feel sympathy
36:03But at the end of the day, he did make the choice to pull that trigger
36:06Why don't you go home? I'll take care of the paperwork
36:10Yes, sir
36:11Thank you
36:12You bet
36:13It amazes me how one man can wreak such havoc on the entire LAPD
36:23Smitty is a force of nature
36:25Uh, got a minute?
36:26Yeah, Sean, what's up?
36:27Well, Bailey has been offered a pretty impressive job in D.C., a Pentagon think tank
36:33And I was just wondering what a transfer to the DCPD would be like
36:38Yeah, I can get you in touch with a few people
36:41But you do know you would have to start at the very bottom again
36:45Including redoing the academy
36:47I've done it before
36:48You were also five years younger
36:49Yes
36:50You would get a pretty hefty signing bonus
36:53That's a perk
36:54But your annual salary would be much less than you make in L.A.
36:58Plus the cost of living in D.C. is just as expensive
37:01So in the long run, your bonus really won't make a difference
37:04Especially if Bailey's only making the government salary
37:07Right
37:08I'm sorry if this is not the answer you were looking for
37:10No, no, that's, um
37:12I was just looking for the truth
37:15Yeah, well, good luck
37:17Thank you
37:19Hey
37:22The L.A.P.D. wouldn't be sad to see you go
37:27Thank you, sir
37:28Guess what?
37:36What?
37:37We win
37:37That's great
37:38Did the judge give you any grief about the evidence?
37:41I think he was too confused by the explanation to challenge it
37:45Take the win
37:46I prepared a ten minute lecture for tomorrow's roll call
37:49To make sure no one can ever again use ignorance as an excuse when mislabeling case members
37:53You know, you're a really good watch commander
37:56I'm figuring it out
37:58No, listen, no matter what kind of craziness is going on at the station
38:01You're always the center of calm
38:03And the rest of us need that
38:04I need that
38:05Thank you
38:07Tell you what, list of things we can't trust Smitty with is getting longer
38:10Do you think he's doing it on purpose?
38:13Weaponizing competence?
38:14Yeah
38:14I don't think he's that strategic
38:16Hey
38:23Sorry I missed dinner
38:25Hey, bedtime
38:28You should run for D.A.
38:33Are you sure?
38:35Because if you're not in 100%
38:37I'm in
38:37The more I thought about it, the more I realized this
38:40Was exactly why you joined the D.A.'s office in the first place
38:43And I'm proud you want to set that example for our children
38:47Especially because every day I see firsthand the people our system has failed
38:51And inevitably the ones who suffer the most are other kids
38:56You sure you're okay waiting on a new house?
39:00No
39:00But like you said
39:03Real change requires sacrifice
39:05And I love this house
39:08We brought home two babies here
39:12We also made two babies here
39:16So we did
39:18No food to entice me with, I see
39:25No, but I have wine
39:27Listen, I don't want to beat around the bush
39:32I did my due diligence
39:33And I am sorry, honey
39:35I don't think I can do D.C.
39:38It would mean
39:39Starting all over again
39:42As a rookie
39:43Only this time instead of being 45
39:44I'd be 50
39:45Oh
39:46What if
39:50I'm not ready to say no
39:54Well, you did say we both had to be in or you would walk away
40:00I know
40:01And I meant it when I said it
40:04But now
40:06You still want it
40:08So what does that leave us?
