00:02:29Here's the moment we've all been waiting for.
00:02:31Let's give a big hand for the beautiful Daisy.
00:03:04In a good week, she works six nights and clears $800.
00:03:08She says she's only doing it for the sake of her kids, but Daisy has a plan.
00:03:13As soon as she saves enough money, she's going to quit this business and open her own clothing boutique.
00:03:17Daisy's story is hardly unique.
00:03:20Countless numbers of women have paraded across those stages who, like Daisy, started dancing only as temporary employment.
00:03:26She's seen her friends come and go, friends who shared her same aspirations only to fall prey to prostitution and drug addiction.
00:03:50Many of them old before they reach voting age.
00:03:53Now, perhaps Daisy will learn from what she's seen. Perhaps she'll be able to break free.
00:04:14But can any woman really escape this lifestyle without paying the price of her dreams and her self-esteem?
00:04:19On tomorrow's special report, we'll talk to two women who did.
00:04:22I'm Ellen Carlisle for WDCG News.
00:04:25That's our report for today.
00:04:26Daryl Zetka will be here at 11, along with Andy and Roy for the Action News team.
00:04:31Good night and have a pleasant evening.
00:04:33We interrupt this program to bring you a special bulletin.
00:04:38Keep that camera rolling as we must continue to follow this late-breaking news story.
00:04:42You see, I have the cure for everybody's pain.
00:04:55All right, let's cut to commercial. Keep camera 2 live.
00:04:58We're security.
00:05:00And when the world finds out, I'll be the king.
00:05:04No, no, no. No!
00:05:05No!
00:05:05Epperware.
00:05:17Stop!
00:05:20So in the world, I'm high at my feet.
00:05:29Easy, baby. Easy.
00:05:33It's okay, Turco.
00:05:35I'm the man with the plan.
00:05:39I've got the goods.
00:05:41You're the star.
00:05:45Okay.
00:05:47Ready for your close-up?
00:05:50My close-up?
00:05:57Phillips, what are you doing?
00:06:00You just tell Ellen to jump to her right when I count to three.
00:06:03Okay.
00:06:06Ellen, do you think you need some makeup?
00:06:09He looks great to me.
00:06:12Phillips, watch it with that camera. You're playing with 80 grand.
00:06:16Go to hell.
00:06:18Okay, now.
00:06:19Here we go.
00:06:23One.
00:06:24Two.
00:06:28Two.
00:06:28Three.
00:06:41You ain't going nowhere.
00:06:44Slow down.
00:06:45You take them.
00:06:49Jeez.
00:06:50You okay, Del?
00:06:52Nice shot.
00:06:53Excuse me. Pardon me.
00:06:54Somebody get the psycho out of here.
00:06:56Oh, my God.
00:06:57Damn it.
00:06:58You cracked the lens.
00:07:05Hey, are you okay?
00:07:07I was worried about you.
00:07:08Turns out the gun wasn't even loaded.
00:07:10But you didn't know that.
00:07:12True.
00:07:14Anyway, two weeks vacation sounds pretty good right now.
00:07:17You ready?
00:07:18Um, well, actually, as it turns out, I'm not going to be able to run you out there after all.
00:07:22What?
00:07:23Ralph wants me to stick around in case I have to cover for Daryl.
00:07:26Oh, God, Sandy, I just took my car to the shop.
00:07:28I'm not going to be able to get a ride at this hour.
00:07:30I'm really sorry.
00:07:31But, um, listen, I got to run.
00:07:33But you have a good time, okay?
00:07:35Wait a minute.
00:07:36Barrington at it again, huh?
00:07:46There's got to be hundreds of rental agencies in this town.
00:07:49I can't get one car.
00:07:52That's lucky for you.
00:07:53I'm off to 11.
00:07:55Are you saying what I think you're saying?
00:07:58Save your life twice in one day?
00:08:02Yeah, that'd be a new record.
00:08:03The gods will smile on you.
00:08:07I'm an atheist, but I'll take all the help I can get.
00:08:11Thanks.
00:08:12Sure.
00:08:13Get my jacket.
00:08:14I'll be right back.
00:08:20The woman of the hour.
00:08:21You were terrific, doll.
00:08:23I'm not a doll, Ralph.
00:08:25To me, you always will be.
00:08:26You know what, Ralph?
00:08:29It's right now about, oh, 5.37.
00:08:32I'm on my own time.
00:08:34Please, don't pollute my time.
00:08:41Excuse me, Ralph.
00:08:44All right, how about dinner?
00:08:45I'd rather stick needles in my eyes.
00:08:48Great.
00:08:48I'll have Sylvia cover the 11 for me.
00:08:50I'll have a couple of drinks, a couple of steaks.
00:08:53We'll see what happens.
00:08:54I thought you spent your evening spinning straw into gold.
00:08:57You can spin me any time.
00:09:02May I just be plainly?
00:09:04Your fly's open.
00:09:10Hey, how about I come by your hideaway this weekend?
00:09:12I've always wanted to see the place.
00:09:14I'll notify the exterminators.
00:09:16Hey, you got that, doll?
00:09:22Uh, yeah.
00:09:25Oh, man.
00:09:28Gotta say one good thing about Fredericks, though.
00:09:30The man is consistent.
00:09:33He's also a good argument for birth control.
00:09:36Sandy's a counterfeit human,
00:09:38but I can always count on you, can't I?
00:09:40Oh, yeah, yeah, I'm a sucker.
00:09:42I've signed documents to prove it, too.
00:09:44Oh, number four.
00:09:47Oh, ain't that sweet.
00:09:48Oh, sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry.
00:09:53Oh, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
00:14:35You don't have any kind of system of organization in your kitchen, do I?
00:14:40Say what?
00:14:41Kitchen, you have one.
00:14:43I've seen it.
00:14:44Ellen, Ellen, Ellen.
00:14:45I believe in culinary anarchy.
00:14:48See, I allow the cans and whatnot to express themselves.
00:14:52That way they coexist peacefully.
00:14:55Don't cook much, do you?
00:14:57Once, once.
00:14:58It's 1979, I recall a brutal experience.
00:15:03You get used to it.
00:15:07It's cooking for one.
00:15:09Ellen, Ellen, are you sure you're going to be okay by yourself?
00:15:22Ellen, are you sure you're going to be okay by yourself?
00:15:26Are you sure you're going to be okay by yourself?
00:15:28I mean, I can stay here and help you take the sheets off the chairs or tables or whatever you want.
00:15:35The sooner I spend time here alone, the sooner I'm going to get rid of the ghosts.
00:15:39Okay, okay.
00:15:41Look, don't overdo it.
00:15:42You are that way.
00:15:43Come on, I know you.
00:15:45I promise.
00:15:46You promise?
00:15:47I promise.
00:15:49Okay.
00:15:49Now, if you need anything, you call me.
00:16:10Drive safely.
00:16:19And now, if you need anything, you'll be okay by yourself.
00:16:49This is a WDCG news break.
00:17:00Hi, I'm Sandy Barrington with WDCG Action News.
00:17:04At this hour, sheriff's departments in the Tri-County area are on full alert as a mass riot is underway at San Frondel Penitentiary.
00:17:11The battle began when three inmates tried to escape over the prison wall after attacking a guard.
00:17:16Spree killer Frank LaPierre was among the escapees.
00:17:19His two companions were killed by machine gun fire, but LaPierre himself is believed to have escaped into the thick woods surrounding the maximum security facility.
00:17:29Authorities began a massive search immediately, but have so far turned up no trace of the fugitive.
00:17:33The Montero County Sheriff's Department warns viewers that LaPierre may be armed and should be considered extremely dangerous.
00:17:41We'll be back after these messages.
00:17:43At Selozy Edelson Chevrolet and Geo, we are featuring something new.
00:17:48A $500 cash for the base is on our home to the side.
00:17:53All right, guys, listen up!
00:17:55Truckers are so good to the north.
00:17:56Everyone else with me, let's move!

00:18:09I workout his hair and I work in theese rit.
00:18:14My hair and I raggy is very convenient.
00:18:18I fill it up.

00:18:40We'll find a lot of traffic in the morning.
00:18:45We're going to pick up the most beautiful traffic.
00:18:48I don't have any different traffic traffic traffic.
00:18:51Cronkite, you bad kitty.

00:19:23I forgot you'd be watching.
00:19:26Well, I'm giving myself two weeks to decide.
00:19:29No, Mom, Mom, that's really sweet of you.
00:19:31I've got to be here alone.
00:19:33Uh-huh.
00:19:34Well, I've got a lot of thinking to do.
00:19:36Yeah.
00:19:49Yeah.
00:19:50Well, he actually threatened to come up here and see me.
00:19:54Think I should file a harassment suit with the State Labor Board?
00:19:59Right, but Kristin Kraft was just fired, and my cue is the highest it's ever been.
00:20:03Uh-huh.
00:20:04I just want to shake him up.
00:20:06Yeah.
00:20:07Yeah.
00:20:08I heard about it on the news.
00:20:09That's scary, huh?
00:20:11Mom.
00:20:12Mom.
00:20:13Mom.
00:20:14I just closed all my windows and doors.

00:21:26Come on, come on.
00:21:36Who are you?
00:21:45Ben Scanlon, Deputy Scanlon, I'm your neighbor.
00:21:48I've never seen you before.
00:21:51I've never seen the lights on here before.
00:21:53I'm not here much, what do you want?
00:21:57It's a little wet out here, you think I might come in?
00:22:00Yeah, sure, come on.
00:22:08Is that regulation?
00:22:11They're a little more relaxed out here.
00:22:13Actually, I am kind of glad to see you.
00:22:17I heard about the prison break on the news.
00:22:19San Fidel's pretty close by, isn't it?
00:22:21About 12 miles.
00:22:24We'll get that guy.
00:22:25He won't be moving very fast in this weather.
00:22:27I remember when they arrested Lapeer.
00:22:31We interrupted regular programming.
00:22:34Yeah, I thought I recognized you.
00:22:36You're Ellen Carlisle.
00:22:39That's a get-up, you know.
00:22:41Even better in person.
00:22:44That'll get you a cup of coffee.
00:22:46You're Ellen Carlisle.
00:22:56You wouldn't believe some of the letters I get.
00:22:59I might.
00:23:01You know, I've dealt with a lot of weirdos.
00:23:03I'm talking obsession.
00:23:05One guy wrote that not only does he watch action news and all my special reports,
00:23:09he tapes my four o'clock to watch during commercials on other shows.
00:23:12So you saved my autographed picture, right?
00:23:17Ratings.
00:23:18Ratings?
00:23:22You know you're awfully good at what you do.
00:23:25Yeah, maybe.
00:23:27I suppose I should be flattered by the fan mail, but...
00:23:30How would you feel if you knew someone was savoring your every move like that?
00:23:34It's eerie.
00:23:37I'd worry about the ones you didn't write.
00:23:40Oh, that really cheers me up.
00:23:42I guess that wasn't the right thing to say.
00:23:47Yeah, well, I'll forgive you this time.
00:23:49You can get some coffee.
00:24:05How long are you planning on staying?
00:24:07Two weeks, alone.
00:24:09Easy, Ellen.
00:24:10He just met the guy.
00:24:11Hey, it's funny, you know.
00:24:14My vacation just started, too.
00:24:15So, what do deputies do on their days off?
00:24:27Okay, don't tell me.
00:24:27Let me guess.
00:24:28Fishing, hunting, things involving canoes, tents, big yellow dogs.
00:24:35Motorhomes and bass boats.
00:24:36All the boys around the campfire.
00:24:39They don't take the gals along.
00:24:41Oh, gotta be crazy gals in the woods.
00:24:44Except it might get mighty cool in them tents.
00:24:48That's what them big yellow dogs are for.
00:24:52Yeah, that sounds kinky.
00:24:53Kinky.
00:24:57I like Daisy.
00:25:02What?
00:25:03Daisy.
00:25:06That gal you did the series on.
00:25:10You saw it?
00:25:12Sure.
00:25:15That's what brings in the viewers.
00:25:16I thought you handled the synthesis of subject very well.
00:25:34I guess I better be getting home.
00:25:36I appreciate your coming over.
00:25:38It's good to know you're nearby.
00:25:39Well, that's just great.
00:25:47Where's your fuse box?
00:25:49I don't know.
00:25:51Outside.
00:25:57You got a flashlight?
00:25:59Candles.
00:26:09Don't go anywhere.
00:26:26Funny God.
00:26:26I got it.
00:26:34I got it.
00:26:35I got it.
00:26:36I got it.
00:26:37I got it.
00:26:38I got it.

00:27:25Hey, trucker.
00:27:26Hey, trucker.
00:27:27Hey, trucker.
00:27:28Hey, trucker.
00:27:29Hey, trucker.
00:27:30Hey, trucker.
00:27:31Ben?
00:27:55Ben, are you okay?
00:28:01I almost had that son of a bitch.
00:28:20Came up behind me when I was checking the breakers.
00:28:23Heard him just in time or it could have been in my throat.
00:28:26Come on, I know that was him.
00:28:28We've got to get this cleaned up.
00:28:29You know, first things first, I want to call this in.
00:28:32He could be a mile away from here by now.
00:28:36Don't answer the door to anybody but my voice.
00:28:40Lock it.
00:28:40Yeah.
00:28:43Cool.
00:28:45Yeah.
00:28:50Yeah.
00:29:21Maybe you should probably have a doctor look at this.
00:29:24No doctors.
00:29:27You probably want to give me a tetis shot.
00:29:28Those are for dogs.
00:29:31I just hope the damn thing wasn't rusty.
00:29:38What? What's so funny?
00:29:42Go outside, check the fuses and come back in all covered in blood.
00:29:46It'd be a lot funnier if there wasn't a psycho running around in my backyard.
00:29:51I won't let him marry you.
00:30:01Have you got a friend or somebody in there by you to stay with tonight?
00:30:04I don't even have a car.
00:30:09Joey, it's Ellen. You've got to call me.
00:30:12You know that murderer, Lapeer?
00:30:13He was here. He was right outside my house.
00:30:16He slashed a cop with a knife. I think I got an exclusive on the guy.
00:30:20Call me.
00:30:27Are you sure you're going to be comfortable on that?
00:30:31Don, I spent the last year of my marriage on the couch.
00:30:34I know what you mean.
00:30:35I really appreciate this.
00:30:40I'll be fine.
00:30:42Okay, if there's anything you want in the kitchen, feel free.
00:30:50Good night.
00:30:52Good night, sweetie.
00:30:53Good night.
00:30:53Good night.
00:31:05Good night.
00:31:35Good night.
00:31:38Tell me you didn't meet him here.
00:31:41Yeah, sure.
00:31:41The trollers are still out there trying to figure out how to use a bathroom without help.
00:31:45He knows you do this, right?
00:31:48Oh, man.
00:31:49You know what's going to happen when you break the news.
00:31:52I guess I'll just have to break it to him gently.
00:31:54Tell him you're in the entertainment business.
00:31:56Come on, Lisa.
00:31:57I mean, this guy's a gentleman.
00:31:59I mean, he cares about me, and Trace and Jeff are crazy about him.
00:32:02They're just little kids.
00:32:05What about you?
00:32:07I think I'm falling in love.
00:32:10Hey, Lisa.
00:32:12We have a bachelor party tonight.
00:32:13Come on.
00:32:15Some girls get all the luck.
00:32:17See you for any night, honey.
00:32:18Thank God, it's you.
00:32:42You scared the life of...
00:32:43Oh, God.
00:32:46Good morning.
00:33:16Ben, do you want some coffee?
00:33:46Don't worry about Le Pew, he's probably miles away, but this is just to be on the safe side.
00:34:06Be careful with it.
00:34:08How about a picnic?
00:34:11Call me, Ben.
00:34:13Good morning.
00:34:15Good morning.
00:34:17Good morning.
00:34:20Yes.
00:34:22Good morning.
00:34:25Hello, Joey? Hello?
00:34:55Hello, Joey?
00:35:25Hello, Joey?
00:35:55Hello, Joey?
00:36:05We'll see you next time.
00:36:35Helen, you-hoo, I'm the man with the plan, where are you gorgeous, hello, anyone home?
00:37:05Helen, where are you?
00:37:10Ah, you're upstairs, here I come.
00:37:35Helen?
00:37:42Helen?
00:37:44Helen?
00:37:45Helen?
00:37:46Helen?
00:37:47Helen?
00:37:48Helen?
00:37:49Helen?
00:37:50Helen?
00:37:51Helen?
00:37:52oh, poor man.
00:37:55I'm dead.
00:37:58I don't know.
00:38:28Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey.
00:38:58Whoa, whoa, man, not again with this car.
00:39:28Hi.
00:39:29Hi.
00:39:30Hi, yourself.
00:39:35Thanks for the champagne and flowers.
00:39:50You're a doll.
00:39:51Well, I agree with that.
00:39:53But I can't take credit for something I didn't do.
00:39:55You weren't here earlier?
00:39:56Not since 6 AM.
00:39:58And who is it?
00:40:01Oh, Fredericks is in my house.
00:40:04He's the news director at the station.
00:40:07He doesn't know the meaning of the word no.
00:40:12Number 6.
00:40:14So I take it you're not going to keep the relationship to this guy strictly professional?
00:40:20Well, not even that, but he's the station owner's son.
00:40:23Excuse me.
00:40:24Don't.
00:40:25Don't.
00:40:26Don't even start with me.
00:40:27Number 6, huh?
00:40:28My good friend Ralph.
00:40:29Off the Christmas list.
00:40:30Christmas list, you?
00:40:31Hey.
00:40:32I mean, if I had one, he'd be off it.
00:40:33The quiet solitude of the country, huh?
00:40:54Cool.
00:40:55It is a deputy.
00:40:58Ben, this is Joey Phillips.
00:41:06Joey, Ben Scanlon.
00:41:08Joey, good to meet you.
00:41:10How you doing?
00:41:11Listen, I got us three minutes on a six, so where do you want me?
00:41:16Shoot away from the house.
00:41:19Hey, uh, what's going on?
00:41:22Oh, I just need a short statement from you, a couple comments about the attack.
00:41:26Oh, no, no way.
00:41:33It's okay. Everybody's nervous their first time.
00:41:36It's not that. You don't know my boss.
00:41:39Dan Cobb likes to control his department.
00:41:42Besides, he's running for election, and it wouldn't look good for a flunky like me to be blabbing to the press.
00:41:49Oh, man.
00:41:51Ben, this is important. You were there. Cobb wasn't.
00:41:55That's still not going to wash with Cobb.
00:41:57I'd like to help you, but I can't.
00:42:00You know, Ellen, I had a funny feeling about this all along.
00:42:04Joey.
00:42:09Well, if you can't, you can.
00:42:12I understand.
00:42:15Is there anything in town we could shoot?
00:42:18I don't know.
00:42:18I mean, I guess we could try the manhunt.
00:42:23Well, come on. Let's sit it.
00:42:24Uh, I don't think so.
00:42:26See, we're going on a picnic.
00:42:31Well, you can handle it.
00:42:33It's my vacation, remember?
00:42:35I'm on vacation, remember?
00:42:38Well, it's okay. It's okay.
00:42:40I just thought you were a serious journalist, but, you know, Ellen, I got it.
00:42:45No problem.
00:42:48Bye, Joseph.
00:42:51Have a good time.
00:42:53Laura left kind of a bad taste in my mouth.
00:43:15I thought we had a good marriage.
00:43:17She was always telling me how she just liked being a housewife.
00:43:26Partnering us for life.
00:43:30Turns out she was an entertaining friend.
00:43:34I'm sorry.
00:43:36I came home early one time.
00:43:39Needless to say, the gentleman of the day was more than just a little surprised.
00:43:43After that, it was just water under the bridge.
00:43:50You'll never guess how I met Rick.
00:43:54Aberdeen class.
00:43:56Common love of marsupials.
00:44:01Browsing for metric kitchen utensils.
00:44:05He wrote me a fan letter.
00:44:07He used to love my being an anchorwoman.
00:44:15At least until we got married and he found out I actually worked for a living.
00:44:21Then any attention I gave my career was attention I was stealing from him.
00:44:27He kept waiting for me to give it all up, and I kept working 14-hour days.
00:44:34So you left?
00:44:34No.
00:44:37He did.
00:44:39He couldn't control me, so it was time to move on, you know, become somebody else's fan.
00:44:46He's a smart guy.
00:44:47He was successful.
00:44:48He wanted to kill the part of me that attracted him in the first place.
00:44:53God, why does it have to be that way?
00:44:56It doesn't have to be.
00:44:57It doesn't have to be.
00:45:04Sheriff, is there any truth to the report that Lapeer was cited last night in Montero County?
00:45:19Any idea where he was headed when he left San Fidel?
00:45:22How many men have you assigned to this case, Sheriff?
00:45:24I have a prepared statement.
00:45:28FBI agents have joined sheriffs and police departments from the Tri-County area in the manhunt for Frank Lapeer.
00:45:36We expect to have the fugitive in custody before the end of the day.
00:45:41That is all.
00:45:42Step back clearly.
00:45:43Sheriff!
00:45:44Sheriff!
00:45:44I told you I have to say at this time.
00:45:48There's any family in the area.
00:45:50Sheriff!
00:45:50Sheriff!
00:45:51Sheriff!
00:45:52Sheriff!
00:45:53Sheriff!
00:45:54Was it an inside job?
00:45:55Look, I'll be fair with you if you'll be fair with me.
00:46:00Frank Lapeer is a very dangerous man.
00:46:03He may be armed, and he may be wounded.
00:46:06Now, I've canceled all leaves, and I have 50 men with rifles out there right now.
00:46:12If Lapeer is anywhere within 100 miles, we'll find him.
00:46:15Okay?
00:46:16How do you know he's walking?
00:46:18You know, this job would be a whole hell of a lot easier without that bunch of idiots.
00:46:30What about it, Dan?
00:46:31You think Lapeer would help?
00:46:33He had help.
00:46:34Plenty of help.
00:46:35Where do you suppose he got to?
00:46:37I don't have a clue.
00:46:39Step back from the car!
00:46:40Step back from the car!
00:46:48Step back from the car!
00:46:49Step back from the car!
00:46:51Step back from the car!
00:46:52Step back from the car!
00:46:53Step back from the car!
00:46:54Step back from P akash!
00:46:55Help me!
00:46:56I feel like Marlon Perkins.
00:47:01Yes...
00:47:02You don't like Marlon Perkins!
00:47:04Rusty for the car!
00:47:05Oh God!
00:47:06I'm sorry, I'm sorry!
00:47:07I saw it.
00:47:28I wouldn't worry about anything.
00:47:29That guy's long gone.
00:47:33Seven o'clock?
00:47:34I can't wait that long.
00:47:57Bonkite?
00:48:00Hey, kitty, kitty, kitty, kitty, kitty.
00:48:01Bonkite, dinner time.
00:48:31Don't you know that I said
00:48:35And for a stride I was she
00:48:39Oh, mama!
00:48:41Oh, yes!
00:48:42Catfish and biscuit.
00:48:44Come on!
00:48:45Yes!
00:48:47Yes!
00:48:51Zipper, old buddy, you just broke this up.
00:48:53Have a great moment.
00:48:56Is there anything?
00:48:59Is there anything differently?
00:49:00Are there ever there
00:49:03If nature hasruckaged a mobile oh,
00:49:04axis of the wire
00:49:05Is there anything later?
00:49:08The running note told me
00:49:11It's never really fasted then
00:49:12I don't think that if it's difficult
00:49:14They don't think but
00:49:15We're going to test off
00:49:17The anchor is up
00:49:18You have to steal
00:49:18You have to try
00:49:20Those things
00:49:51Hello?
00:49:56Hello?
00:49:58Does your mother know you got asthma?
00:50:21Hi.
00:50:30All right?
00:50:33Yeah, it's country sheep.
00:50:38The feed store had been on, might have stopped, bought me a new hat.
00:50:44That you're beautiful.
00:50:47The way you look at me, it's...
00:50:50Nobody's looked at me like that for a long time.
00:50:58I brought you some champagne.
00:51:01Another one?
00:51:03You know, this could get dangerous.
00:51:05You wouldn't want me to lose control, would you?
00:51:08Don't answer that.
00:51:10I'm gonna put this on ice.
00:51:11Make yourself at home.
00:51:15Something sure smells awful good.
00:51:22Dinner's almost ready.
00:51:35Take your time.
00:51:41Lawrence, over here.
00:51:42I found a shirt.
00:51:48Jim, stay with the body until a cop gets here.
00:51:49We're going after him.
00:51:50Move!
00:51:51Move!
00:51:52That's number eight.
00:51:53That's number eight.
00:51:54That's number eight.
00:51:58I can't see him.
00:51:59I'm gonna get enough.
00:52:00Get out of here.
00:52:01We'll get out of here.
00:52:02I'll get out of here.
00:52:03You can't see him.
00:52:04I'll get out of here.
00:52:05I'll get out of here.
00:52:07We'll get out of here.
00:52:08Jim, stay with the body till Cod gets here. We're going after him.
00:52:11Move!
00:52:20That's number eight.
00:52:23You know, I should warn you, when I drink,
00:52:26my whole professional demeanor goes right out the window.
00:52:31You're safe with me, darling. I'm a lot.
00:52:34You know something? I saw that news show last night.
00:52:38It's not the same without you.
00:52:42What's your name? It's a Nola Campbell.
00:52:49What? You want in a secret?
00:52:55I don't know if I'm going to go back.
00:52:59You know, the producers have a saying for the top story on a newscast.
00:53:03They say, if it bleeds, it leads.
00:53:08The heartbreaker is there, right?
00:53:13The more sick stuff we give an audience,
00:53:16the more the ratings go up,
00:53:18and the more the sponsors want us.
00:53:21Unless you do good stuff, Ellen.
00:53:23Oh, no, no.
00:53:26You're the good guys.
00:53:28We don't try to stop injustice or brutality.
00:53:34We just say, hey!
00:53:36You want to sit close up with a widow?
00:53:38I broke the story on Frank LaPierre.
00:53:47He murdered his pregnant wife.
00:53:51His three little boys.
00:53:53He shot two neighbors before the cops got him.
00:53:57I did a live remote
00:53:59from his front yard.
00:54:01And they kept, um,
00:54:08getting out these little potty bags.
00:54:16We got a 5.9
00:54:18that week.
00:54:20Our highest rating ever.
00:54:23You want another drink?
00:54:23It's almost time for my competition.
00:54:37Sandy.
00:54:39She's my dear friend.
00:54:40She's hoping I'll drop dead
00:54:41so she can bop her over the top.
00:54:46Of course,
00:54:47that's tough to do
00:54:48when you can't even pronounce Czechoslovakia.
00:54:50Oh, Sandy,
00:54:53that's not a salon.
00:54:54It's a country.
00:55:02Have you ever seen
00:55:03a middle-aged angry woman, Ben?
00:55:13I didn't think so.
00:55:17You know,
00:55:17I don't know which future
00:55:21I fear more
00:55:21than when I get old
00:55:23and I lose my job
00:55:24or the one where I keep it
00:55:28and is this my soul?
00:55:32It's getting tough
00:55:33to look in the mirror now, guys.
00:55:37But you're a good-looking man, Ben.
00:55:46Look at this.
00:55:46As we reported
00:55:48at 7 o'clock this evening,
00:55:49fugitive Frank LePier
00:55:51was captured
00:55:51five miles east
00:55:52of the county line.
00:55:53Sheriff Daniel Cobb
00:55:54told reporters
00:55:55that LePier
00:55:56was apprehended
00:55:57as he tried
00:55:57to steal a pickup truck.
00:55:59LePier will be returned
00:56:00to maximum security
00:56:01at San Fidel Penitentiary
00:56:02where he is awaiting execution
00:56:04of the brutal slaying
00:56:05of six.
00:56:07Thank God.
00:56:11You know,
00:56:11he wasn't very far from here.
00:56:13I put you in danger.
00:56:20I'm sorry.
00:56:21Hello?
00:56:35Joey?
00:56:37Yeah, I saw it.
00:56:39You don't know
00:56:39how relieved I am.
00:56:42Oh, yeah,
00:56:43it looked great.
00:56:44Ralph's gonna love it.
00:56:45And now that's funny
00:56:48because I'm pretty sure
00:56:49a little punk
00:56:50snuck in here today
00:56:51and left champagne
00:56:51and flowers.
00:56:53Now I assumed
00:56:54he'd be at the station
00:56:55by now.
00:56:57Right.
00:56:58Hang on.
00:57:00Well, hang on.
00:57:01No, no, no.
00:57:01I gotta go.
00:57:02I'll call you back.
00:57:02I gotta go.
00:57:05Hi, Sheriff.

00:57:09You know,
00:57:12you guys did a great job
00:57:13back there.
00:57:14Congratulations.
00:57:15Listen, listen, Sheriff.
00:57:17I need to ask you
00:57:18about one of your deputies,
00:57:19Ben Scallon.
00:57:20I don't want to talk
00:57:21about him.
00:57:22Well, Sheriff,
00:57:23it's just gonna take
00:57:23a minute.
00:57:24Sheriff,
00:57:25one minute about that.
00:57:36I need some air.
00:57:37Come on,

00:58:24That's a whole idea.
00:58:25Sheriff, I got your daughter
00:58:36on the line.
00:58:38I'll put her through.
00:58:39Dad, whatever did you say
00:58:41to that fellow
00:58:41from the news?
00:58:42Who?
00:58:43He's called twice.
00:58:44He wanted to tell you
00:58:45something about Ben Scanlon.
00:58:46Well, they never know
00:58:47when to leave
00:58:48well enough alone.
00:58:49Well, I'm sure you're right.
00:58:50Only he said he saw
00:58:51Scanlon in uniform
00:58:52just this afternoon.
00:58:54What?
00:58:54Yeah, the man said
00:58:55he was bothering
00:58:56that gal on Channel 5.
00:58:57You know, the one
00:58:58you like so much.
00:58:59Didn't you fire him
00:59:00six months ago?
00:59:01I knew he was trouble
00:59:02as soon as I hired him.
00:59:06Ah!

00:59:40No, sorry to bother you, Sheriff,
00:59:41but I've been trying

00:59:43all night long
00:59:43and I can't get through to her.
00:59:46No, I, I don't know.
00:59:47I think she's with Ben Scanlon.
00:59:50Oh, you are?
00:59:51No, that's fine.
00:59:52No, I'll meet you at his house.
00:59:53Where does he live?
00:59:58I feel so safe with you.
01:00:03You know, this might sound corny,
01:00:05but at this moment,
01:00:08I feel like everything's gonna be all right.
01:00:12It's been a long time since I've had anybody feel that way about me.
01:00:26I bet it feels good knowing you won't be getting those phone calls anymore.
01:00:32I'm sure will.
01:00:38What heavy breathing.
01:00:44How'd it be scary?
01:00:46How did you know that?
01:00:51You told me.
01:00:55I don't remember telling you.
01:01:01Must be the champagne.
01:01:04Yeah, I guess.
01:01:07Excuse me.
01:01:08Excuse me.
01:01:08Excuse me.
01:01:10I was a little bit worried about you.
01:01:33I was a little bit worried about you.
01:01:35I was a little cold.
01:01:43Come on over here.
01:01:44Let me warm you up.
01:01:44Oh, you are cold.
01:01:55You all right?
01:01:57You know, it's funny.
01:02:01You mentioned the phone calls,
01:02:03and for the life of me,
01:02:04I can't remember telling you about them.
01:02:06It's not like me to forget.
01:02:10Sure you did.
01:02:12You didn't ask if I could do anything about them.
01:02:15No.
01:02:17No, I didn't, Pam.
01:02:19I'm sure I didn't.
01:02:22Sure you did, Ellen.
01:02:25You asked me if the department had a policy on obscene phone calls.
01:02:29You even want to know if I knew anybody down at the phone company.
01:02:34Don't you remember me going outside and checking the lines for tampering?
01:02:38Hell, you even made a joke about it.
01:02:41Told me how to take my gun with me for safety.
01:02:42By the way, where is my gun?
01:02:48Stay with me.
01:02:49You don't need it.
01:02:51What's the matter with you?
01:02:54What happened to your heart?
01:02:58I got you just like Laura.
01:03:02You get what you want, then you send them packing, huh?
01:03:06You want me to teach you a little trick I taught Laura?
01:03:18You should leave now.
01:03:21All right.
01:03:23I'm just getting warmed up.
01:03:24I'll call the police.
01:03:29Well, I am the police.
01:03:35You're sick.
01:03:38Sick?
01:03:39I'm sick.
01:03:42You need it.
01:03:44That's just what my wife used to say.
01:03:46I won't kill you.
01:04:08I'll call it a prison.
01:04:10It's theeps.
01:04:11I am stoic.
01:04:12It's theeps.

01:06:03Hold it right there!
01:06:27It's Carlyle.
01:06:32Where's Scanlon?
01:06:37His dad.
01:06:39I shot him.
01:06:41What?
01:06:43Look what he did.
01:06:47That sick bastard.
01:06:52He grabbed his gun and it just went off.
01:06:57Easy.
01:06:59You're safe now.
01:07:01Don't worry about a thing.
01:07:02It's all over.
01:07:04Just get me out of here.
01:07:08Don't.
01:07:09Don't.
01:07:10Don't.
01:07:11Don't.
01:07:12Don't.
01:07:13Don't.
01:07:14Don't.
01:07:17Don't.
01:07:18Don't.
01:07:21Being a professional, you must have a keen appreciation for my photographic abilities.
01:07:36That's what you're doing.
01:07:39I shot you.
01:07:46Yeah, you shot me.
01:07:47That's three-quarter no blanks.
01:07:55You think I'd give a woman a loaded gun?
01:08:17No!
01:08:25No!
01:08:25Oh, my God.
01:08:55Hey, baby.
01:09:00You better get a little bit of a hand up there.
01:09:25Ralph!
01:09:27Ralph, are you in there?
01:09:42All right, hang on a second, buddy.
01:09:45Hang on.
01:09:48All right, hang on a second.
01:09:53I got you.
01:09:54Come on.
01:09:55Come on.
01:09:55I got you.
01:09:56Oh, Christ.
01:09:58Oh, my God.
01:10:28He's dead.
01:10:42Sleepyhead's finally awake.
01:10:46You were tired.
01:10:50You didn't nap did you good, didn't I?
01:10:52You know something?
01:10:53You know, the first time I saw you, I said,
01:10:57there's a nice, clean little girl.
01:11:00It's the kind you want to take home to Mama.
01:11:03I bet your Mama and Daddy really liked you.
01:11:07They liked you a lot better than they did Laura.
01:11:09As a matter of fact, that's kind of a joke.
01:11:18They actually didn't like Laura at all, not even a little bit.
01:11:24Mama told me, she says,
01:11:26you know what, you want to marry that skinny little girl?
01:11:29She ain't worth nothing.
01:11:31Ain't much to look at.
01:11:32I saw her cause a big old fight.
01:11:38Daddy come in, told Mama she should mind her own business.
01:11:45Made me feel real bad because
01:11:47I love my Mama, but I love both my Mama and my Daddy.
01:11:53After that, I felt real bad.
01:11:55I think about him every day.
01:12:15What do you want?
01:12:17I want to be together.
01:12:20I just want you to love me.
01:12:22You don't know what trouble I've been through.
01:12:27You know that first night,
01:12:29I cut my own arm.
01:12:33What's the matter?
01:12:34Here.
01:12:35Here.
01:12:36Here.
01:12:37Drink some.
01:12:38Come on.
01:12:39Drink some.
01:12:44Isn't that better?
01:12:46Huh?
01:12:50What's the matter?
01:12:52If you let me go now,
01:13:04I won't say anything.
01:13:06You have my word.
01:13:08I'd love to, baby.
01:13:11I'd really love to believe you, but
01:13:13if I undead your hands, would you behave?
01:13:18I'll do anything.
01:13:20Anything?
01:13:21Anything?
01:13:22You know, my teachers used to always say
01:13:30I was the smartest in the class.
01:13:34You were probably good in school, weren't you?
01:13:37Well, in eighth grade,
01:13:39they said I was the best student.
01:13:41I always liked biology, you know?
01:13:46They'd start smarter than the teachers.
01:13:48Um, maybe you should have tried to be a doctor.
01:13:53You could still do it, you know.
01:13:55Uh, uh, I know the dean at Westridge View Community.
01:13:59I could talk to him for you.
01:14:01There was a lot of people.
01:14:02Well, uh, there was a bunch of us, you know?
01:14:06And we used to have this, uh, clinic on our clubhouse.
01:14:09We would go out and we'd get these, uh, alley cats,
01:14:13the more skinny ones, but the dogs would work.
01:14:15But the alley cats was the best because
01:14:17you'd offer a little food you could get them real easy.
01:14:19and we'd take these scrawny old things up to our clubhouse, you know.
01:14:25And then I'd always be the head surgeon because I was the smartest.
01:14:29And then the other guys, they was my assistants.
01:14:33Were those your friends?
01:14:35Were they your best friends?
01:14:36What were their names?
01:14:37Don't you interrupt me.
01:14:49Am I upsetting you?
01:14:56Yes.
01:15:01You know, I wouldn't want to upset you for anything in the world.
01:15:05Then let me go.
01:15:09Honey, I'd untie you if I thought you loved me.
01:15:18You love me?
01:15:19You think this is love?
01:15:23Look at me.
01:15:27You know, there's a lot of ways to show love.
01:15:31Just a minute.
01:15:44Just a minute.
01:16:00Yeah.
01:16:01Yeah.
01:16:19Where's Ellen?
01:16:23Laying down, I think you're a little too much champagne.
01:16:29I need to talk to her.
01:16:31What, uh, what happened to the window?
01:16:43Uh, storm.
01:16:45The tree through.
01:16:49You know, I've never really known Ellen, you know, to be that much of a drinker.
01:16:59Oh.
01:17:02You know, girls.
01:17:07We would strike some.
01:17:08What was that, Ellen?
01:17:19Have a seat, I'll go find out.

01:18:06Well, how is she?
01:18:06I was just sleeping like a baby.
01:18:12Is that right?
01:18:17Excuse me, I, uh...

01:20:15I did them a favor.
01:20:18They're better off.
01:20:20Get out.

01:20:22You know, your little girl holding that big shotgun doesn't fit you.
01:20:31Just give me that thing.
01:20:36What's going on here?
01:20:38You think that thing's, um, filled with real rounds, huh?

01:20:46It's full of blanks.
01:20:48Let's find out.
01:20:51Shoot him, Ellen!
01:20:51Oh, my God.
01:20:52Do you think you might be pregnant with my baby?

01:21:24Oh, Jesus.
01:21:27Helen, I know you feel for me.
01:21:31I trusted you. You lied.
01:21:35You lied? Shit!
01:21:37I never lied to you. I gave you my heart. I didn't lie.

01:22:35All right. Oh, my God. She's not even made up.
01:22:38All right, keep it wide. Let's go ahead and start on the body.

01:23:22Here you go.
01:23:36This is Ellen Carlyle coming to you live from the death scene
01:23:39of psychotic killer Ben Scanlon.
01:23:44Although ex-deputy Scanlon was thoroughly insane,
01:23:47he managed to lure women to their deaths
01:23:49from a facade of vulnerability and charm.
01:23:54But sooner or later that facade had to crumble into madness.
01:24:01I should know I killed him.
01:24:06Yeah.
01:24:07Here.
01:24:08I'm so happy if you've never been able to be soon.
