The Philippine government has expressed serious concerns regarding the escalation of word war between the Chinese Embassy in Manila and several senators, as well as other government officials who continue to take a firm stand against Beijing over the West Philippine Sea issue.

00:11In a statement on Monday, January 26th, the Department of Foreign Affairs said it conveyed its concerns to the Chinese ambassador, noting the escalation of statements exchanged by both sides.
00:23Since the arrival of China's new ambassador to Manila, Jing Kuan, in December, the Chinese embassy has issued more frequent public responses to comments made by Philippine officials, asserting China's position on the maritime issue and rejecting allegations it considers inaccurate.
00:38Some Filipino lawmakers have criticized the embassy's remarks, prompting further exchanges.
00:44The embassy, in turn, has said it is responding to statements it views as misrepresentations of China's position.
00:50The DFA reiterated its support for Philippine officials in carrying out their duties while emphasizing that differing views are part of democratic discourse.
01:02At the same time, the Department called for restraint and professionalism, saying careful language is necessary to preserve diplomatic channels, manage tensions in the maritime domain,
