00:00An art installation inspired by the sun has appeared at Jubilee Swimming Pool in Bristol.
00:08Helios, named after the ancient Greek mythological god who personified the sun,
00:14was created by acclaimed artist Luke Jerram.
00:17This is a sculpture of the sun and it's created out of 400,000 photographs of the surface of the sun
00:24and allows the public to see all the sunspots and all the small details on the surface of the sun.
00:29The sculpture measures five metres in diameter, weighs around 50 kilograms
00:34and was made using over 400,000 high-resolution photographs of the sun's surface and NASA observational data.
00:46The Jubilee Swimming Pool is being managed by the community and I wanted to be able to support them
00:50to help them raise money to fix the roof.
00:53To put solar panels on the roof would make sense to have a sun here.
00:56The artist is hoping Helios will attract a large number of visitors
00:59which could contribute to funding solar panels on Jubilee Pool's roof
01:04and secure its transition to a greener future.
01:07I thought by having this artwork it would draw people in
01:09and also give people an opportunity to have some fun and see the sun up close.
01:14The artwork which has been suspended metres above the pool will shine above the water
01:18and reflect across its surface.
01:21Regular pool goers and visitors will be given access to view the installation
01:26and swim under it until Sunday, February 8th.
01:30Additional late-night sessions have been added to the swimming pool's regular schedule.
01:35Well, I like creating artwork that brings people together
01:37and there's something nice about using a community space like this
01:41that's accessible to everybody.
01:44For me, that's really important.
01:45Julie Lamming, Chairwoman of Trustees at Jubilee Pool, said
01:49this is the first time Helios has been suspended over a swimming pool
01:53let alone at a much-loved indoor pool approaching its 90th anniversary.

02:13a bit of sunbathing is probably what we all need this time of year.
02:17The artwork will later go up in Manchester
02:19then travelling to Borneo in South East Asia back to London
