00:00Here in Hong Kong, we have a combination of skyscrapers and thousands of buildings that
00:06are over 15 years old. And with age comes risk. It's a challenge facing Hong Kong and cities all
00:15across Asia. The Hong Kong government requires inspections, but the traditional way is tedious.
00:23Scaffoldings, hammer tap tests. It's slow, expensive, and it takes weeks just to get the data.
00:31But technology is changing all that. Tech startup Alpha AI is turning a process that used to take a
00:39month into something that can be done in a single day. We are doing drone AI inspection on building,
00:47on confined space, on slopes, and in front structure. So we fire a drone, inspect the building, inspect the
00:53city for safety. I understand the convenience of using drones, of course, because these are
01:01building inspection can be really very manual. But how does AI come into the picture?
01:07There are the two things. The first one, if we take all the photos, if I still read the photo one by one,
01:13it's easy to forget which area I take the photos. It's not easy to map back the photo to the building
01:19area. We use the AI, we can build a 3D model of the building, and then we can pinpoint all defect
01:24locations. And then we can use different colors to indicate the risk level. So that will be easier
01:30to reference back where is the defect. Second thing for the AI is to do a time comparison. We allow the AI
01:37to learn about all the defect area, and we can compare this defect year by year. Year one is still
01:44a minor defect, 1mm crack. But in the second year, it becomes a 1cm spawning. But we can see that
01:50that change of the building conditions. And then if we have more and more data, we can even predict
01:56where is the major defect area. So when we do the repairment, that is more effective.
02:00Hong Kong has granted Alpha AI, a crucial beyond visual line of sight license to scale this
02:09technology. But across Asia, there may be significant hurdles to the use of drone AI. The most
02:17valuable drone flights are often the most restricted by regulations. Now the potential of drone AI to
02:25revolutionize building inspections and property management is immense. But AI is not perfect.
02:32A single missed crack can have serious consequences. So human experts remain essential for verification.
02:40The future therefore is about collaboration, not replacing humans, but empowering them with smarter and safer tools.
