Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today expressed gratitude over the ringgit’s appreciation against the US dollar, saying "Alhamdulillah” when asked to comment on the local currency’s strongest performance in more than seven years.

The ringgit opened at 3.9850/9950 against the greenback at 8am on Monday, strengthening from last Friday’s close of 4.0045/0080.

The currency last traded at a similar level on May 24, 2018, when it touched 3.9797 against the US dollar.

00:09At noon, the Ringgit strengthened to 3.9695 against the dollar after it recorded within the range of 4.005 to 4.076 over the past one month.

00:29The currency's rise followed improved risk appetite after Bank Negara maintained the overnight policy rate at 2.75% last Thursday, coupled with a weaker US dollar index.
00:40Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim welcomed the news where he said praise be to God when asked about the Ringgit's performance after launching the National Audit Department's 120th anniversary celebration on Monday.
