00:00We're getting a closer look at James Gunn's Superman with the debut of its first trailer.
00:13The hero is at a low point when audiences first glimpse him in the trailer for the new movie.
00:18Bloody and bruised, he crash lands in a frozen landscape.
00:21Trailer footage features minimal dialogue, although the music and series of shots embodies an epic in the making.
00:27For Gunn, it's also hope towards the future of DC.
00:31Created in 1939, Superman for decades embodied his motto,
00:36Truth, Justice and the American Way,
00:38with a character serving as a symbol for the good things America could represent for the world.
00:42During a trailer launch event for the press on Monday,
00:45Gunn was asked how he incorporated what Superman can represent for America and the rest of the world into the movie.
00:51I think that's what Take Me Home is all about.
00:54We do have sort of a battered vision of Superman at the beginning,
00:57and I think that is our country.
00:59I believe in the goodness of human beings,
01:01and I believe that most people in this country,
01:03despite their ideological beliefs or their politics,
01:06are doing their best to get by and trying to be good people,
01:09despite what it may seem like for the other side,
01:11no matter what that other side might be.
01:16Superman arrives July 11th as the first solo movie for the character since 2013's Man of Steel.
01:22The trailer also gives glimpses of the other superheroes in that world,
01:27including Nathan Fillion's Guy Gardner slash Green Lantern,
01:30Isabella Merced's Hot Girl,
01:32and Eddie Gathegi's Mr. Terrific.
