00:00I'm Pete Wiggs and by now you should definitely know I love dogs in fact I
00:17don't just love them I'm completely obsessed I like them more than I like
00:23people and I always have safe now buddy and I couldn't be more delighted to be
00:29back at Dogs Trust again to witness the resilience how she's managed to bring up
00:36six puppies it's a miracle the courage this one looks a little bit more shut down
00:40it's just really sad Pete and the unconditional love that these amazing
00:44creatures are capable of and every day I'm blown away by the amazing humans who
00:50work here too because behind every rescue we have to give them a better
00:54chance at their home I hate saying anyone quite there's a team of vets physios and
01:00people who believe that every dog matters we're not opening the door yet we're
01:04gonna be brave and we're gonna do it today look at the big wide world it's like
01:09they flipped a switch and they've decided they want to live
01:15I'm back and starting somewhere that's become like a second home the Basildon Center in my very
01:36own Essex good afternoon Dogs Trust Basildon Pete speaking and there is no
01:39time to waste as I get stuck back in there's some sort of lumps of it's for
01:45you darling thank you oh you're so nice oh yeah just just the best job ever it
01:53obviously is just the best job ever but it doesn't take long before I'm
01:56reminded how quickly things can take a serious turn here yeah no I know it's
02:01really really hard now is that all right then so we'll come to you now all right
02:06we'll see you very soon see soon all right take care bye you're out for seven
02:09in it's a guy who has got 18 dogs in the house he reached out to us to see if we
02:17would take some of them so it's a voluntary handover which is great he's
02:20finding it really difficult to to hand over the dogs and which is kind of why we
02:25just need to he's just said he's just agreed for the first time that we can go so
02:29we just kind of need to go right now right now yeah I'm ready animal hoarding
02:33has become a growing problem in recent years and the team are seeing it more
02:37and more often let me get the door for you oh thank you very much you go madam
02:42thank you today I'm joining Lisa and behaviorist Gemma on this delicate case
02:47with so called holding situations often they're linked with underlying mental health issues and so
02:58it's not necessarily about the numbers of dogs it's just they need to feel that they need to collect in
03:03the case of holding animals with that many dogs in a home there's likely to be urine there's like to
03:09faeces around the home that in itself can lead to health issues for both the person and for the dogs
03:15he's told me that the dogs haven't ever really left the house before it's a situation that until we get
03:20there we just don't know well I'm here to help so whatever you guys need me to do yeah thank you
03:25very much thank you good luck guys thank you as Lisa and Gemma go to meet the owner we have no idea if
03:37you will give any of these 18 dogs up today Lisa and Gemma are at the door I mean we're about 40 foot
03:48away and he's loud that's a lot that sounds like an awful lot of dogs what's the guy saying please
04:04quite sweet actually he's clearly in a bad way yeah so Gemma's just gone back pick up some more dogs so
04:13we've got three here now they get to be in pretty good condition to be honest with you but they do smell
04:19so this that one looks a little bit more shut down than the other three may have just been within that
04:35property so for them to come out in these crates people they don't know to be put in the back of
04:40a van they've they've probably never experienced that before so um I imagine they're terrified a
04:46little bit older a little bit older a little bit older I'm just gonna go back and help Lisa quickly
04:53with five dogs in the van Lisa and Gemma come around the corner with the last of the two hours is that
04:58right yeah you might need to shut this door quite quick yeah I'm ready he refused to get in any of the
05:06carriers so pick it up it was okay so is that little scared he was wriggly but we got there didn't we how
05:14was it it's just really sad Pete like it's really sad he's a nice guy and he can you can just see he
05:20just he just wants what's best for the dogs he's just got to stay out of control and he said he has
05:24didn't sleep last night but he knows that it's the right thing for the dogs so we've got six so we've
05:28got two older dogs so you've got around six years older things and the rest are around about four months
05:33old and from two different it says all right shall we get back then let's get back yeah time is of
05:38the essence in this case we need to get these terrified chihuahuas back to be properly assessed
05:43first up are the two older dogs right he's gonna be a little bit scaredy because I've got to grab him
05:49oh good boy good boy well done well done it's okay it's okay let's go you're all right got him yeah
05:56having never left the house this terrified chi needs to be carried something the team only do when
06:02there's no other choice I mean this could be the first time he's ever had a collar on at all yeah
06:07first time he's met other people in a long time there we go I think I think we just need to leave
06:17him give him a little while to settle in he's so worried it's just not worth it yeah it's not fair
06:21as they're so scared the team decide to leave the two adults who they've named cheddar and feta to settle
06:32before they handled them any further and now it's time for the younger ones these younger ones might
06:43be slightly easier yeah hey guys good doggie they're obviously very reluctant to come out of these little
06:51carriers of me yeah I mean is this fairly normal in terms of the fact you know if they come from a
06:57hoarding situation with multiple multiple dogs with new people new environment it must be pretty
07:02scary for him hi well done little pup hello imagine what everything you've experienced in your life
07:10it's been turned upside down it's I think it's even worse now every understanding you've got of the
07:16world yeah and suddenly everything is different oh this is good this is yeah this is really good
07:22I think these two things we've most confident yeah these two came out pretty much within a couple
07:26of minutes hey princess hi I mean she's definitely a lot more nervous than the others so we still need
07:33to name these four as well so if we stand down the cheese route I like parmesan and then we've got
07:40another little boy here halloumi oh got a little one coming out a little so that one ricotta I like
07:48that one it's wagging his little tail at the girl so this is Brie this is Brie yeah I mean she's
07:54considerably smaller and thinner than this I feel yeah yeah yeah as her three brothers explore it's
08:03only nervous Brie who still won't come out she's shaking quite a lot out of all of them she looks
08:09the most underweight the others have all got pretty good body condition like weight wise they then they
08:14don't look visibly underweight good yeah some are more confident than others I'm really surprised and
08:20actually the fact that these two are a little bit more scared if they can watch these two other guys
08:25who are more confident with new people and watch them do it first they'll observationally learn that
08:31things are a bit safe and things are okay anytime you see a dog shut down or anytime you see a dog who
08:38is pretty much living in fear which is where they're currently at everything they've ever known has been
08:43ripped away from them and they don't understand it's for their own good the two older ones it was
08:48just so shut down I just wish I could speak dog you know to say to him it's okay like you know we're
08:53gonna everything's gonna be fine with the cost of living still putting pressure on families across the
09:13country Dogs Trust has seen a marked rise in people having to give up their dogs come on to hard times
09:20where I'll see but I've got to put him up for rehoming it's a hard decision for anyone to make
09:25oh puppy and today Nicole and Danny are in with their pugs how you doing guys you all right yeah thank
09:34you hello puppy who's this hello darling how are you Sapphire and that's okay Sapphire and Coco yeah what
09:43are you guys doing here today rehoming our dogs okay you're gonna be rehoming both of these guys yeah
09:50okay I mean I can tell that that's not an easy decision for you no I mean do you mind me asking why
09:59circumstances that are really out of our control financially and everything is just not plausible
10:05for us anymore rents a bit more expensive now so yeah we have to give them a better chance at their
10:11home how long have you had them both since birth we have their mom no foreign much your sisters yeah
10:17they came from the same litter assistance yeah Sapphire's pregnant this little baby yeah she pregnant yeah
10:23it's a really tough situation but genuinely by bringing them here they're in the best possible
10:30care I'll make sure they go somewhere nice I promise you that I wanted to prove everybody wrong and that we
10:37could have dogs and a baby and pay for everything and I just I tried but but darling that's not listen
10:44it's that's life it doesn't matter about proving people wrong it honestly doesn't matter you have to
10:49do what's best for you and you have to do what's best for the adults and by the sounds of it I think
10:54this is probably it but you've got to look after yourselves as well you know yeah yeah thank you and
11:00I genuinely mean that was thank you because I'm gonna I'm gonna give you a little minute to say
11:07goodbye yeah thank you yeah be alright thank you buddy that girl was devastated because they'd made a
11:28tough decision that is best for the dogs out of love they're born here out of love they're born here to
11:35give them the best chance really upsetting it's um I hate seeing anyone cry oh god it's gonna upset me
11:43now I hate saying anyone cry but sometimes when you see someone love saying it so much and come to the
11:52realization actually there's nothing more I can do and then have to look at other solutions it's heartbreaking
12:01I promise you we'll find all good home
12:14you've got a beautiful daughter yeah you know concentrate on that yeah and actually what you've done is so brave you've had four years you've given them everything for four years you can see how loved they are yeah you know what I mean you should be really really proud of that you should be really proud of that
12:32you should be really proud of that honestly honestly you've done the right thing thank you
12:48thank you appreciate it right take care guys yeah
12:51thank you
12:52Coco and Sapphire are taken straight to the vet suite for a checkup with James and Charlotte
13:09she's a good girl
13:11after Coco is all checked the team decide on a special plan for her even though the intake is a
13:18really lovely blood it's very noisy for little dogs like Coco that just aren't used to this environment
13:22luckily for Coco she'll be getting some very important pet treatment because she's so small and so sweet I've
13:29got a really lovely um older lady that's available to foster oh I'm literally going to take Coco out and
13:35get her there as quick as I can and get her on the sofa she's lovely though isn't she yeah really really
13:40sweet super cute that's it it's okay you ready you go see little foster home I love that little dog
13:49now it's time to see how pregnant sister Sapphire is doing all right guys hi have a little look at
13:56Sapphire I mean obviously you can tell now I couldn't tell outside but it's pregnant yeah do we know how far
14:04gone or anything she's about 45 days we know that she's been mated with another pug that's always really
14:09good to know because pugs can struggle to give birth naturally especially if they've been mated
14:14with a larger breed dog so hopefully being another pug that's going to be in her favor and it'll be a
14:20nice natural birth and we won't have to go and to surgery but with pugs you just never know like we
14:26will still need to keep a close eye on her so with that noise we can hear at the moment that could
14:31potentially be a concern presumably as well for kind of brekkie breeds that do struggle with the
14:36breathing being pregnant as well yeah we'll have a bit more of an impact because they're carrying an
14:40extra bit of weight yeah it's just going to want to be monitored as punks are at a higher risk during
14:46pregnancy and birth the team want to send Sapphire for a scan to check everything's okay so me and
14:52Han LaSharla take her to see the off-site vets hi Sapphire would like to come in please amazing
14:57where vet Amy will be doing her ultrasound so put the lights down until she's been nice and calm for
15:03her scan good girl good girl so it's pretty much similar to a human ultrasound then so a little bit of
15:10gel goes on a little bit of gel so she's definitely pregnant there's no doubt about that you're not fat
15:16so that's always good news so you can definitely see at least three in one image but I think she's
15:22got at least four at least four I think so four little pugs did you know a group of pugs is called
15:30a grumble is it really yes well they all look nice and healthy they're kicking away and she seems to be
15:37coping quite well bless us potentially at least four parts which is very exciting you look very good so
15:44she could be dropping sometime very soon and I cannot wait for some tiny little baby puggles
15:50little baby little baby puggles you can have a little grumble you're gonna have a grumble for
15:56nano granddad is so happy the idea of pug puppies has made me completely lose my mind and I haven't
16:06recovered by the time I get back to the Basildon Center hi to see how the young cheese chihuahuas
16:12are doing now they've been here for three days oh hello everyone it's a cheese party you do you
16:18are your cheese board and the four younger cheese who have now got the all clear from the vets have
16:23started to come out of their shells they look yeah I know a lot more confident I know hi are you
16:32surprised at kind of how well they've adapted yeah I am to be honest little breeze really sweet as well
16:38but she's just that little bit more scared I think she'll get there she's already shown some promise
16:43but dogs have different personalities she might just be a quieter dog hybrid it's really nice to see you
16:50you know you're a soft cheese as the young adults are adapting well it's a completely different story
16:56for the two adults feta and cheddar who are still so scared they've not left their kennel behavior
17:05officer Becky he's in assessing them hi Becky you're okay yeah yeah can I come in yeah of course
17:12come in hi cheese it's her other little cheese very scared not quite the same as the other no no
17:19they're definitely not progressing as well as the other four they're just more nervous they're not
17:24really approaching us as much feta's definitely a little bit more brave but cheddar's still very
17:29much like I need to stay away I mean these two are the slightly older ones they've probably been
17:33sheltered for longer the difference between them and these two you know coming from the same house
17:38is quite vast yeah massively and actually they they don't help each other because they're both nervous
17:45as the team are leaving them alone as much as possible they've not yet had a vet check but there
17:51seems to be a problem with feta oh yeah that's also a big concern yeah yeah he's very lame on his
18:01front left leg it is something that we're gonna have to deal with because obviously we can't leave
18:06him if he's in pain so we are gonna have to get them vet checked pretty quick quicker than what we would
18:12do like if we were just letting them build their confidence a little bit also has he got a weird ear yeah his ear is quite
18:20inflamed it looks quite thickened it looks quite sore obviously if he is in pain that will be affecting
18:27obviously his behavior definitely yeah so we want to try and get that under control as quickly as possible
18:32so that we can help you know him feel better as feta desperately needs to see the vet the confidence
18:39building will have to take a back seat but no sooner is that decision made a van full of strays arrives
18:52including a spaniel cross okay not a single thing needs a nervous shepherd
19:00and finally a very excitable spaniel what happened to that eye yeah it doesn't really open
19:12a lot i'm not going to stress him out too much because he's only just arrived it's a lot for him
19:17charlotte wants to assess him further and i am desperate to meet him hello hello puppy who is this
19:25this is eddie he is super friendly hello puppy so we're not entirely sure his backstory at all not
19:33too sure we didn't have a lot of information on him unfortunately um he has got a doctor towel so
19:37potentially previously a working spaniel i don't want to uh be rude eddie but there's a fairly obvious
19:45constantly winking at you yes is there even is there an eye there not too sure we've had a look as best
19:51we can but obviously because he is so bouncy it is difficult to see right in there in terms of
19:57how a dog with one eye copes i have some slight experience with that yes peggy one of my dogs has
20:04has got one oh babe has got one eye um and she comes really really well it doesn't seem to affect
20:09her at all is that the same with with most dogs or is my dog special all dogs are special good answer
20:15as long as he's got his sense of smell i think he'll be all right what's next for eddie so he needs
20:20his castrate done so we're going to do that and whilst he's under the general aesthetic we can
20:25have a better look at that eye because it's just really a question mark about whether we need to
20:29intervene in some way you're so pretty would you like a one-eyed girlfriend she's a bit older
20:36i love him he is a character oh you're so beautiful
20:48i think he loves you as well to be honest what is it yeah what is it paul where is it i want to find
20:55this loving boy at home but until we know what's going on with his eye he can't be put up for re-homing
21:00i really enjoyed meeting you it's been so much fun isn't it with every dog the team look after here
21:08there is no guarantee their journey will go smoothly and over in the puppy block there is a serious
21:14problem as pregnant pug sapphire has taken a turn for the worst hi it's just charlotte calling from
21:20the dogs trust and we've got a heavily pregnant pug here and she's off her food and she's panting quite a
21:26lot and we suspect she's gone into labor and she might be having some trouble so we wanted to get
21:30her down to you to have a check over pugs often struggle giving birth naturally due to the puppy's
21:36flat faces and broad skulls we're just a little bit worried about her because she hasn't passed any pups
21:42and so we're going to get down to the external vet so maybe she needs a caesarean section to have the
21:46puppies and so we're just going to get her straight down there now time is crucial complications in labor
21:53could be life-threatening for the pups and for sapphire
22:00back in basildon one two three it's been a few days since the cheese chihuahuas arrived at the center
22:07for the four younger pups today's a big day as it's the first time they have ever been outside
22:14and it's fair to say they're all taking it in their tiny strides come and join the conga
22:20do do do do do come on in yeah yeah oh i'm the cheese king i'm the cheese king i'm the cheese king
22:29i'm the cheese king oh still there hi hi it's quite hot even brie has come out of her shell
22:38but adults cheddar and feta still won't leave their kennel the team are no closer to handling them
22:47and they desperately need to see the vets so the decision is made to catch them in crates
22:53as they're both so scared they're having a general anesthetic for their vet checks first to be seen by
22:59vet vanessa is cheddar cheddar has loads of fleas who apart from being infested with fleas
23:06all right which he'll receive a treatment for he's giving the all clear next is feta vanessa
23:14wants to investigate the cause of his limp the joint mobility is pretty good but it's just thick like
23:20here but maybe could it be like one of the other dogs has bitten and then they had an infection or
23:26something and that's where it's just so worth so i might just clip it and see
23:31there is evidence of sort of old scabbing and stuff here look it's in the big dog bed
23:40what we'll do is we'll treat him with pain relief and antibiotics as well now she can move on to his
23:46inflamed ear ear infections can be incredibly painful for dogs and untreated can lead to hearing loss and
23:54chronic pain so we can't see the eardrum in his case because there's just so much discharge there
24:00so what we're going to do is we're going to give it a good flush of saline because that's completely
24:04fine to use within the ear even if the um eardrum is damaged so by removing this discharge that's in
24:10the ear that'll make him feel more comfortable probably he might look a little worse for wear now
24:18but with medication hopefully feta will start to feel more comfortable soon
24:25you guys are all right with that yeah over at the puppy block thank you sapphire is arriving back from
24:31the off-site vets after she was rushed off in labor yesterday she had to have an emergency cesarean
24:37section to deliver her puppies and he's back with three wonderful pug pups
24:42it's only a day old so how come she had to have this c-section it came um apparent quite quickly
24:51that she did have one stuck um so they did have to go for a c-section what do they call that breach
24:56is it so it was breached yeah and she was unable to pass that one on her own um and that was the
25:02first one so obviously not being able to pass that one she weren't going to be able to pass the rest
25:06and that one unfortunately passed yeah unfortunately that one didn't make it losing a pup is never easy to
25:11hear but fortunately for the other three the team were able to intervene it's such a shame to have
25:18lost one how stressful is it for for mum having to have a c-section um you know any woman that's been
25:26in labor will tell you it's pretty stressful you know standard um but you know this poor girl she's
25:32had to be washed down to our external practice in pain because she's already in labor um they've had to
25:38obviously put her under ga open her up remove the pups you know she's going to have a painful wound
25:44now as well and you know when you put all of that together it's really stressful for her after a c-section
25:50due to pain and stress mums can be known to reject their pups meaning the team may have to step in
25:56which they desperately want to avoid pups are feeding off of mum where they can she does at the
26:01moment only have three teats that are producing milk so obviously it's a little bit of a problem
26:07and as always with new puppies we will be weighing them daily probably twice a day to start with just
26:12to make sure that they continue to gain weight it's never nice to lose any dog but there is still three
26:18and i think the next few weeks is just about trying to get them through
26:22kind of the worst of it if you like the first couple of weeks is always the toughest and
26:26you know i think sapphire is going to be a great mom and yeah i think it's just all hands on deck at
26:32the minute we don't want to lose anymore so make these moments last what we all hold our breath and
26:39hope the puppies will be okay over in the vet suite oh my goodness all right should i give you your little
26:47jappy then you're so friendly stray spaniel eddie is having a general anesthetic so vet vanessa can
26:55get a proper look at his eye so we've got some eyelids and just some soft tissue but there's no
27:00sign of any globe there so the soft tissue could be muscles but it's whether there could be conjunctiva
27:07there because that can get inflamed and cause issues in the future conjunctiva is a thin transparent
27:13membrane that covers the inner surface of the eyelid and acts as a protective barrier to the eye
27:19do you think he was born with this yeah i think it's just a congenital defect it doesn't look like
27:24anything's happened to the eye i'll take some photos of it and i'll send them to the ophthalmologist
27:29they may say that we should remove this soft tissue that's there because if it's conjunctiva
27:38maybe it can cause a problem in the future the team will need to wait for the results to see
27:43if he will need further treatment before he can be rehomed over in kennels treatment has worked for
27:50cheddar whose fleas are all gone and fetters leg has improved with pain relief and his ear is clearing
27:57up with antibiotics but while the team had hoped being pain-free might have improved their confidence
28:04they still haven't left their kennel today jemma and jordan have a plan and i want to help out
28:10you all right girls hello how are they yeah still very scared um we've not been able to get them out
28:18in a week they've just been hiding in the back of the kennels still a lot of just feeding and then
28:22kind of creeping forward at the minute so what's the plan of action so the plan is um we're gonna
28:27introduce um these guys to parmesan and halloumi just to see if it kind of encourages them to come
28:34out or makes them a little bit more confident all right should we go and do it then girls let's go
28:38come on then do it come on a little one better and cheddar haven't come on as much as we hope they
28:43would so there's an awful lot riding on this and i really hope that being around the younger
28:48dogs kind of brings them out of their shell a little bit i'll be quite surprised if these guys
28:52actually come out so that would be good have cheddar and feta left the kennel at all not out of choice
28:57no only for their vet check first we open the door to feta and cheddar hello are you gonna come out
29:05then jordan opens the door to halloumi and parmesan
29:12here he comes little guy
29:23oh wow they've gone straight in there yeah
29:27about feta and cheddar oh wow they've come out that's really good because feta literally just
29:31followed palms down out so that is really good this is the first time that they've really come
29:37anywhere near coming out of the kill themselves or even coming kind of towards kind of us and look
29:43they're following them out so this is exactly what we wanted them to do this is a massive step
29:47forward for feta and cheddar i mean are you surprised by this yeah i'm surprised by this
29:53with these guys definitely fetters completely different with these guys completely i mean
29:59i'm being very calm but i'm very excited yeah it's nice to actually see them not kind of in the corner
30:07yeah just looking completely broken i mean we're running yeah that's big no really big it's exciting
30:16isn't it cheddar yeah you've been very mature no i haven't forgotten that's awful that was really bad
30:28i feel really excited after that it was so nice to see the older two like tether and feta be like
30:34dogs again because so far we've kind of seen them cowing at the back but behaviorally it was always
30:38going to be a long road but actually that looks like there's a little bit of light at the end of the
30:43tunnel i mean they're nowhere near being free of that fear but they're making progress because they
30:48are all lovely i mean i feel like i've developed a little bit of love for cheese chihuahuas i already had
30:56love for cheese
31:04in the basilden center sapphire has recovered really well from her surgery and has done an amazing job
31:10with her pug puppies
31:14who've now all been given names as precious as they are pearl topaz
31:20and diamond they are now four weeks old and i'm visiting them today with charlotte for some puggy cuddles
31:29hello pate it's baby pug hi baby hey hey little baby pug hello mummy how are you
31:41they send you a bit crazy didn't they oh i didn't need any help with that
31:46i'm the pug daddy i am going out of my mind yeah
31:51right back in the room i have work to do today we're just doing a little bit of weaning with them
31:57so kind of end of three weeks four weeks we start weaning them off of mum with all young puppies we
32:01do need to be careful um with the amount we're feeding them just to avoid aspiration pneumonia
32:06but especially what exactly is that darling um so it's basically inhaling the food that will then go
32:11into the lungs which can then cause a really nasty infection so um obviously that's not good at all
32:17is that something that is more of a risk because they're brachybraids yeah 100 um so they
32:22struggle to eat and breathe at the same time unfortunately so how do we go about this kind
32:27of weaning process then um so really we just want to feed them really slowly so if you just want to
32:34get a little bit of food on your finger then um um and just yeah they do get they get quite excited
32:40over the food it's here though but you can see that they are taken to it really well already and in
32:46terms of their kind of weight and everything else are they all pretty healthy oh they're all doing
32:51really well yeah not worried about them at all they're gaining every day you've done very well
32:55with the little baby puppies you've done so well with your baby puppies with sapphire having looked
33:02after her pup so well over the next few weeks it's full steam ahead with puppy socialization
33:09from carry walks it's very bright isn't it to toy play outside
33:21and even meeting other puppies so is this the first time the first time these guys have met um
33:29and obviously really important that puppies get to socialize with other puppies what do they learn
33:33from each other manners you know how to interact with other dogs what's what's played how do i know
33:38another dog's going to disengage confidence around other dogs as well isn't it just help
33:48you've been terrorized
33:51oh break it up break it up stop stop and just days after being put up for rehoming
34:00the pug phone has been ringing off the hook and they've all found homes
34:05the whiting family took home little diamond topaz found a new home with kirsty
34:11and pearl became the newest member of the lock family
34:15with the pups having gone i want to check in with mum sapphire hello hello hello baby how are you
34:24darling how are you she's away from the pups now has she been coping being away from them
34:29she's coping fine not having the pups around but she is struggling in a block kennel yeah
34:36so we are going to get her into foster okay just obviously a bit of a nicer environment for her
34:41that's going to be exciting you get to be in a home which has been a long time since she's been in
34:45home because it's been a couple of months now isn't it yep that's exciting presumably we're going
34:49to find out a lot more about her and kind of her personality when she goes into foster but
34:54obviously she's adorable she absolutely loves people and she's got a really great little
34:58character so i'm sure you know it won't be long before we get her home seeing sapphire kind of out
35:05and about and ready to to find herself again is just a really lovely thing she's had a tough ride
35:09since she's been here so getting her into foster and getting her rehomed is is the name of the game
35:14now and i just i love her a little bit and it's not long till sapphire is settling into her foster home
35:21where it turns out this dedicated mum loves slow walks good girl
35:29and big cuddles you're ready to get and let's not forget about her sister coco who after three
35:37weeks living with her foster carer janice getting lots of love you're going to a new money and daddy
35:43and i won't get the foster you found a new home for life where she's starting her next chapter
35:50with geraldine from hartfordshire and i could not be happier for her
36:02over in the kennel block the team have been busy kennel mixing the younger cheese cheese
36:07with the older ones feta and cheddar and they have finally helped the older two
36:12gain some confidence but they still aren't brave enough to leave the kennel block
36:17and have yet to set a single paw outside he's okay something they probably have never done
36:25to help with this the team start lead training the plan has been to start applying gentle pressure
36:30along with following a tree ready can i come this way good boy this way just kind of pressure he just
36:38resists do we think they've they've never actually been kind of walked no the only outside we think he's
36:44ever seen he's been carried from house to van there's a whole wide world for these guys to see
36:50over the next few days the team work hard on lead training with cheddar and feta in the hope they
36:55will finally get them outside how far have you gotten down here you actually have been practicing
36:59coming all the way to this door at the minute but we've not opened the door yet wowzers we're gonna do
37:05it today we're gonna be brave and we're gonna do it today we are just gonna brave it aren't we boys
37:10see what happens yeah that's it we'll just do the same thing good oh this is so exciting look at the
37:18big bird world well done boys they're both still obviously sticking to the doorway at the minute
37:24what a clever boy and you can see they're less thinking about the leads now than they are when
37:30they're actually inside yeah yeah just focused on what else is going on this is such a massive
37:36step forward for these boys wow look at you walking on a lead like a real dog
37:44this is what it's like to be an actual doggy as the team make massive strides forward with feta and
37:49cheddar i've heard there might be some news about my excitable boy eddie
37:54oh yeah okay hold on how's eddie been he's well you can see he's doing very well and what about
38:08the eye so there is no evidence of an eye there at all and they strongly suspect that it's congenital
38:14he was just born without knife oh really yeah what's the next step is he is he available for
38:18rehoming potentially he's going up for rehoming he's ready i mean look how happy you are you're
38:25such a happy boy i know i know i just want to go home find me a home i want to go home i want to go
38:30home i want to go home he's being so happy this is fantastic news for eddie who's already stolen the
38:37heart of my crew member james and his dog pig there's something special about him he's got a real
38:43nice bond of really lovely nature him and peg have got on brilliantly it's amazing to see my mate eddie
38:51living his best life in his new home and there's more good news because the four young cheese cheese
39:01have all found their forever homes our little lady brie has gone home with the king family
39:07diane took halloumi home to brentwood parmesan joined raymona and nathan and finally with an owl took
39:16little ricotta i could not be happier seeing them all set off to start their new lives
39:27but the older cheese cheese are still at the center it's been six weeks since they arrived
39:32and jemma and lisa have been working hard with their lead training so today i want to catch up
39:39with them to see how they're getting on do we go for a walk go for a walk now yeah their lead training
39:45is doing so well they've literally smashed it can i come and do the the cheese party oh look oh running
39:56out this is genuinely incredible here we go do you want to take a lead i mean yeah hi puppy this way
40:03come on then you've just taken fetter off can i take cheddar off as well go for it let him be free
40:08be free we can run around okay or don't it's fine stick with us just hanging with you guys just chilling
40:16it's just so nice to just just just see him like this yeah i mean like what is it out of six weeks
40:23do you remember when like cheddar came out and we couldn't get him in a crate and you had to carry
40:28him and he was just so frightened snappy snappy i'm just having a minute and they're up for rehoming now
40:38yeah are they actually yeah yeah they've got signs up yesterday they're up for rehoming you know
40:43obviously i've been here a while and i've seen like the work you guys do but this is the first time that
40:48i've been there from pick up yeah you just didn't know i hear you baby yeah i know we just didn't
40:56know what was going to happen seeing them like this is just incredible this is like the biggest
40:59turnaround you can you can imagine i never in a million years thought that this little lad would
41:04be just chilling on me like oh yeah oh that's so sweet like him doing that my god baby but even i mean
41:12this is the first time i've stroked either of them you're just so nice isn't it are you feeling
41:17better sorry better it's still so bad i'm so surprised you haven't run out of cheese jokes yet
41:25no listen i'm going to be honest with you jeffa it's not easy being cheesy stop
41:33i did not expect that i genuinely didn't i you know i i knew that they made some progress but
41:41that's a complete turnaround that's like two different dogs
41:50it's testament to the work they put in here like it really is those those two dogs you know
41:55have spent weeks just trying to get them into the kitchen and just trying to be able to touch them
42:00and now they're all over here and that's it it's like they flipped a switch and they've decided they
42:05want to live how do we fancy doing like a celebratory skip run into the sunset shall we
42:13i mean look it's a beautiful moment should we give it a go let's do it are you skipping or we
42:18running i think we should skip oh god you're ready let's get come on puppies
42:31they've eventually saved their lives and it's taken them a long time but they've got to a point
42:35where those dogs are just a loving life now they're ready to go on start chapter two of their own
42:41lives and i cannot wait to hear that they found their homes come on don't pretend you're embarrassed
42:49of us he's so embarrassed and it didn't take long because only a few weeks later
42:56they both found a new home with emma in bedfordshire puppies do you want to be a police dog
43:11yeah that's a yes oh yeah definitely it's just hard isn't it even if you know look for the right
43:16reasons it's not nice tetley is completely deaf so we have to communicate entirely through signs
43:25oh is that be quiet yeah of course clibber than i am
43:33do you really have nothing more to say to me
43:39cause when your whole world turns upside now i'll be your solid ground
