00:00With my right or honourable friend, the Education Secretary.
00:04David Chadwick.
00:05Thank you, Madam Deputy Speaker.
00:07Over the past year, I've spoken to hundreds of children in local schools across my constituency
00:11as part of my Safer Screens tour,
00:14and it's been very distressing to hear from them some of the material that they've been exposed to,
00:19particularly that the social media companies haven't come back to them
00:22when they've reported this harmful content.
00:24So can she confirm if she agrees that there should be a ban on harmful social media platforms
00:29with a default age of 16?
00:33He knows I've set out that we're going to consult on the age of 16,
00:38but I would just remind the House that the Online Safety Act
00:44has very strong things against illegal content for people of all ages,
00:50harmful content for children.
00:52We need to make sure that that is effectively enforced now,
00:55whatever decision is made around this consultation.
00:58Alex Barrows-Curts.
