00:00American Airlines Center this is the calm before the storm they are expecting some serious weather tomorrow afternoon but people are lined up to see this man play Steph Curry one of the superstars of the game against one of the young stars in the NBA Cooper Flagg and the improving Dallas Mavericks it's the second of three meetings between these two teams the Golden State Warriors and the Dallas Mavericks and we've got all the action for you tonight right here
00:30on Prime as we join you courtside hi everybody Ian Eagle bones Brent Barry Cassidy Hubbard the rest of our NBA on Prime crew Golden State had been playing its best basketball of the season Warriors finally found their footing and then a crushing injury takes place earlier in the week that changes the complexion of the year I don't like your energy but yes the Warriors were in a Golden State five and one on that
01:00eight game homestand and in the third quarter against the Miami Heat Jimmy Butler with that right ACL going down out for the remainder of the season and I'll tell you what took the energy out of the building the lights dimmed on what Jimmy Butler was going to mean to the Warriors but the light showing brightly on Jonathan Kaminga playing in the next game against Toronto 21 minutes in that game 20 points and a devastating loss just not a lot of energy from the Warriors but Kaminga is going to get his chance
01:29chance in the next chapter for him speaking of light shining bright though it's this guy Steph Curry again at his peak powers in this 37th year on this planet doing ungodly and unworldly things with the basketball this year and taking on the Dallas Mavericks tonight this team improving the pace has certainly gone up and it's working for the Mavericks and they've got a young standout of their own and Cooper flag a moment to go our own Cassidy Hubbard caught
01:59thanks Ian Cooper Jason Kidd called you a unicorn you're leading your team in points rebounds assists and steals what's been the biggest adjustment taking on so much responsibility this early in your career yeah I think you know obviously it's been tough it's been a lot but just being myself you know my teammates have been great
02:17and just helping me with that being confident in me give me that confidence and just let me be myself now we know you grew up a Warriors fan you even attended Steph's summer camp you guys face off against them on Christmas Day but what was the biggest challenge facing off against Steph specifically when you're actually living and taking him taking on him on the court yeah I think it's what you see you know on TV you know just the movement the pressure obviously the way you can shoot the ball so you know it's a tough guard but you know we got to stay locked in you know as a team
02:47five guys you know locked in together playing team defense and you know we can get the job done thanks for your time good luck today thank you back to you Ian all right Cassidy this is the rarefied air that flag currently occupies the names on this list youngest player to lead their team in points rebound assistant steals is this a good list this is good I want to study this to make sure that these are some of the all-time greats I'm pretty sure they are so you talk about a young player meeting expectations Cooper flag has certainly done that it is
03:17remarkable that he is remarkable that he is 19 years old and has gained the respect of not only the coaches around this league but the players immediately recognize what it is that he is capable of doing competitive every night and in most cases youth means potential in this case it means massive production one area where they'd like to see an uptick if possible is three-point shooting for Cooper yeah I think a lot of rookies come into the league they don't recognize how far the three-point line is and what that distance means
03:47why not bring in our resident Dallas Maverick legend in Dirk Nowitzki and talk to Dirk about first-year struggles from the three-point line and what you have to do Dirk to improve how you get to become an efficient effective three-point shooter in the NBA well I think you know he had a lot on his plate early on in the season with running the point guard trying to get the ball to everyone and I think he's been a lot better from month to month he's been you know more comfortable I'd say stepping in the shots and you know it's
04:17it's not like he's changed in his shooting clinic right now or shooting form he's just stepping into it with a little more confidence he's been in a great rhythm since he moved more to his normal spot averaging like twenty six and five and almost fifty percent from the floor so he's been shooting at an incredible clip and like I said we're nobody here in Dallas is worried about his three ball I think that's something you can come quick fun fact that was actually my rookie season I shot twenty nine percent from three and it ended up being okay
04:47so we're not worried about Cooper's three ball yeah certainly seeing a lot of improvement from him game by game BG what stands out to you as the biggest area of growth for Cooper flag so far yeah I think for him as he's gotten more comfortable you know he said he's playing with more confidence but part of that is just him getting the ball on the move cutting out the decision making a lot of times when you catch a static pass and now you have to create it can lead to overthinking so for him and if I'm the Dallas Mavericks
05:17he doesn't have to go out of the corners and allow his athleticism to then create for others because he knows how to play basketball he wouldn't be the number one pick if he wasn't he's leading the team in all these categories and it shows when he just doesn't have to think I mean turned 19 on December 21st meaning he will be a teenager until the middle of his sophomore season but I mean Steve for as young as he is he has such a maturity about it he really does I mean I think having that spotlight on you from a young age helps
05:47him right off the bat he kind of handled it fine in my eyes my question was can he be a number one or is he going to be a 1B I think he's going to be a number one like I think the shooting is going to come I think the playmaking is there the defense playing off the move so as BG said you know quick decisions he's improved so much so quickly this year I just think the sky's the limit for this kid all right they're facing the Warriors tonight UD how do you think Steph Curry will have to adjust without Jimmy out there I think normally or naturally people would assume that he has to score more but I think
06:17I think he has to get guys involved more I think he has to facilitate more he's going to get a lot of attention tonight and I tell you this team is 8-1 when they make 20 plus threes so he's going to have to get in the paint Quentin Post is going to have to get threes Will Richards is going to have to get threes those guys that don't create for themselves I think that if they can get a steady diet of that a recipe of that they can put themselves in a good position well Steph is responsible for a lot of those he has 156 made threes this season made or assisted on 223 threes this season so Steph isn't just a big part of their
06:47their offense he kind of is is their offense so we will see how he adjusts without having Jimmy by his side all right thank you all so much for watching NBA on Prime pregame presented by CarMax
06:59a live look at American Airlines Center Warriors and Mavs getting ready to go in Dallas tip off just a few minutes away with Ian Eagle

18:3686-79. Joe Barry Carroll led the way with 21 points and 13 rebounds. Jim Spinarco was the high man for Dallas. He was rocking the mustache with 16 points and 10 boards. Very good trivia. I might have gone to that game. I think it was. That was Dallas' first season. P.J. Washington is now back for Dallas and he turns the ball over. That was after the Peyton Lane.
19:06Curry for the tie. No. Rebounded by Christie. Also Moussa Cissé in the game. Along with Brandon Williams for the Mavs.
19:18Way outside. Marshall. They showed two initially. Now he's one-on-one with Curry. Marshall puts it up. And he's fouled. Two free throws for the sixth year pro, Najee Marshall.
19:34The NBA schedule tomorrow night. We've got you covered here on Prime Video with a doubleheader. Houston at Detroit. And then Milwaukee hosting Denver. ABC on Saturday. The Knicks and the Sixers. The Warriors will be in Minnesota. And Dallas will be hosting the Lakers. More on these games. Go to NBA.com.
19:56And Najee Marshall is playing such good basketball for the Dallas Mavericks. Coming over from New Orleans. Always a guy around the league who talked about his toughness as Clay Thompson checks in. But talk about his toughness and his two-way ability. Another product out of Xavier like David West and James Posey. But this is the first year that Najee Marshall has shot 70% in his two-point attempts. 70% of his shots are coming from two. So he's doing a great job.
20:22He's doing a great job finally heard about just being patient, getting into the lane, and producing better quality shots that he's capable of making. Let's get more from Cassidy.
20:33Jason Pitt called him their Iron Man because whether he starts or comes off the bench, he gives him that same steady presence and toughness. And Marshall told me his approach is simple. Defend, do the dirty work, and stay consistent.
20:45And whatever the team needs in your world will grow. And that's exactly what he's been so important for them through all of the injuries that the Mavericks have suffered this season.
20:54And Cassidy and Brent Curry thought that his shot should have counted.
21:00Thought the defender was late. And then on the other end, Golden State felt that they blocked Cissé clean twice.
21:07And yet Cissé is going to the free-throw line. Peyton was called for the foul. That's the fourth-team foul. Curry has two personals.
21:15Al Horford in the game for the Warriors.
21:17At the Anthony Melton, who has been giving them incredibly productive minutes.
21:23Also on the floor.
21:25It's the second time in the game that something has happened specifically to Steph Curry on the offensive end, where he has not got a call.
21:32One was a bump on the drive. Steve was upset about that.
21:35The second one was the goaltend. And then it ends up both times Dallas has capitalized down here.
21:40And so frustration is jielding for Golden State in terms of the whistle so far.
21:44And Steve having a one-sided conversation with the young official Tyler Ricks.
21:51Cissé. Again, they've had to find minutes at that center spot.
21:56Cissé is a rookie out of Memphis.
21:58And he goes one out of two.
22:00Clay Thompson. Splash Brothers are guarding one another right now.
22:03Williams, the jump shot. Doesn't go.
22:06And the uncontested board for Curry.
22:10Curry, a little stop and go. He fakes out Martin.
22:12Drive, kick, extra. Kaminga in for the Warriors.
22:19Had a DNP coach's decision. 16 straight games.
22:22The touch. And the foul for Kaminga.
22:27A little extra celebration, not only for Kaminga just to score, but for them to get a whistle as Jonathan finds his way to the line.
22:34And that's what he can do athletically.
22:36Get downhill, use his broad shoulders, use that athleticism, a nice fade, and a good touch for JK.
22:41What does this look like moving forward?
22:44It's not simply, oh, okay, Kaminga just replaces Jimmy Butler.
22:48That's not the expectation level.
22:50No, it's still up in the air.
22:52Obviously, they have to start playing Jonathan Kaminga for the positional need that Golden State has.
22:58There's a couple weeks for Mike Dunleavy in this front office to make a decision.
23:02And we know that it's just an interesting step there.
23:04They almost get the lob to Cisse in a Jonathan Kaminga-Saga.
23:09Run it the other way.
23:10Milton was trying to set it up for the high flyer, Kaminga, but they turn it over.
23:14And Dallas just gives it right back.
23:17Martin couldn't hit Williams along the sideline.
23:19Yeah, I mean, I think as far as the demand, I'm aware of that.
23:32I think when you, you know, in terms of demands, when you make a demand, there needs to be demand on the market.
23:39So we'll see where that unfolds.
23:41But Bird, always with these guys, I tell them I'm willing to work with them.
23:46You know, want to help people out, whether that's J.K. or any player in our roster.
23:52So we're good with, you know, if that's his wishes, trying to figure that out.
23:56But we've got to do it's best for it.
23:58You've got a bucket from Milton.
24:00Martin has called for a hook on the other end, so that won't count.
24:04The words of GM Mike Dunleavy.
24:06And it's interesting, Brent, because when you saw the words printed initially,
24:11when it started spreading on social media, it came across much harsher than the actual comments
24:17from Dunleavy in regards to a trade demand and there needs to be demand.
24:22Yeah, when you give it that kind of context, the way Mike was approaching it as Camilla gets another bucket,
24:28you know, Mike was saying just the honest truth.
24:30I don't think there was anything biting about it.
24:32They are in this situation trying to work through it as best they can
24:35and involving the parties that need to be involved to find a solution to what it is that's happening.
24:41I don't want to say problem because Jonathan Kaminga can play.
24:45And if they ask him to do certain things and he does those things, he will continue to play.
24:50He will continue to improve.
24:51But if there's something out there for Golden State to do in terms of a roster change,
24:57Mike Dunleavy is listening to those calls and we'll see in the next two weeks if there's something to happen.
25:01And by the way, by all accounts, Kaminga's handled it like a pro.
25:05Thompson misses on a three ball.
25:07Washington flies in for the board.
25:09And he makes it in that ends at 8-0-1 for the Warriors.
25:13We're tied at 19.
25:14And how much has Dallas, even in their recent stretch,
25:16just missed a presence on the rebounding, whether it's defense,
25:19in this case offense, for T.J. Washington to get that score.
25:24Poczynski gets the screen from Kaminga.
25:25It's blocked by Martin.
25:27Poczynski tried to hoist a three.
25:30Williams navigating.
25:33Thompson has really shot it well recently, but he turns it over.
25:36Nice defense there from the Warriors.
25:38Richard bounces.
25:39Three-on-one developing.
25:40The extension by Melton.
25:42And he gets the run.
25:44A little bit of body English to make sure it went through.
25:47Williams.
25:48And he lays it in.
25:50Pedal to the middle.
25:52Now, nobody's stepping up in Brandon Williams' way,
25:55so he made his way all the way to the buck at that time with a nice finish.
26:01Melton turns the corner, and he got hacked in the paint.
26:04Good action.
26:05End-to-end.
26:062.34 to play.
26:08In the first.
26:08We're all mounted up to 21.
26:10Well, pretty good time just to give you an update on the Mavericks,
26:17the arrival of Cooper Flagg, and he has lived up to the billing.
26:21They made a decision to let go of Nico Harrison, their GM, in November.
26:28They've dealt with a ton of injuries throughout the year.
26:31And the play of Klay Thompson, last seven games, the numbers are obvious, handled the bench role quite effectively.
26:39And the decision makers right now for Dallas, it is Matt Riccardi on the left, Michael Finley on the right.
26:47I think they are the interim co-GMs for the Mavs.
26:50Yeah, and they're such an interesting combination.
26:52Of course, Riccardi has been around this league with many different teams.
26:55I think you had some time with him in Brooklinburg.
26:57They're coming here to Dallas.
26:59A great opportunity in front of him to make some huge decisions.
27:03But you're leaning on a former player that's also been here for over a decade,
27:07and Michael Finley not only playing here, but in the front office.
27:10That relationship with Jason Kidd as a triumphant.
27:13And they have an opportunity to build around what is their future.
27:17And their future is without a doubt.
27:19Cooper Flagg.
27:20Let's get a Kyrie Irving update from Cassidy.
27:23Yeah, Dallas has been waiting on Kyrie all season after that left ACL tear back in March.
27:28And while there was early hope that he'd be back around December or January,
27:32the latest has been a little more cautious.
27:34Jason Kidd said today at some point there'll be a timeline.
27:38But right now there is none, and he isn't clear to practice.
27:41But he said that Kyrie wants to get back, and he wants to play.
27:43He'll likely be there.
27:45There'll be a scheduled post-All-Star break, guys.
27:47Yeah, and they certainly want to see that Kyrie Cooper flag dynamic,
27:50how that chemistry could develop.
27:53That jump shot from Buddy Heald misses from the corner.
27:56Came back and made a good defensive play to knock it away from Caleb Martin.
28:00While Cassidy was talking,
28:01I can't believe Caleb Martin had that happen to him to go in for a dunk.
28:05He just did that to Pujemski.
28:06Amazing.
28:07Chase down blocks.
28:08Washington works through.
28:10Missed it for the offhand, and Pujemski got his body in there for the rebound.
28:14A minute and a half to play in the first quarter.
28:17Horford steps into the three.
28:18Put it on the board.
28:20And this is huge.
28:20This is what Steve was talking to us about.
28:22Steve Kerr mentioning,
28:23I'm going to lean on Melton,
28:25and I'm going to lean on Horford.
28:26When we won't have Jimmy Butler for the rest of this way,
28:29the veteran presence of these two guys to produce for us on the offensive end
28:32is going to be key.
28:34Horford at year number 19 in the NBA.
28:37Thompson loses the ball.
28:38A turnover.
28:40Kaminga up the floor.
28:42Swing it.
28:43Pujemski.
28:44Hard drive.
28:45Nice fake.
28:46He ducks in for two.
28:48So many players go into that Pinoy step
28:51where they slow down on that last step.
28:53Completely legal defense not able to catch up.
28:56Beautiful move by Potts.
28:57Robinson Thurl is in the game for Dallas.
29:00Washington knocks in a triple.
29:04That ends an 8-0 run.
29:06Warriors lead by three.
29:10Two for one here for Golden State.
29:12We're down to 38 seconds to play.
29:16Pujemski against Williams.
29:17Screen.
29:18Swing.
29:19Open look.
29:19Horford.
29:20Oh, missed it.
29:21And rebounded by Martin.
29:23There's a seven-second difference.
29:24Shot clocked the game clock.
29:26Williams wasting no time.
29:28From the corner.
29:29Robinson Earl.
29:30Too strong.
29:32And now Golden State can hold for one
29:34into the hands of Milton.
29:37Steve Courage has had nothing but praise
29:39for D'Anthony Melton.
29:40He's called him the ultimate pro.
29:42So coachable, professional in every aspect.
29:47And a foul called on Williams out front with 6.2.
29:50They made the decision to pack Milton on the outside.
29:55So on the side with just over six seconds to go.
29:59Yeah, Milton the best plus minus warrior in the last 15 games.
30:03I mean, he's been huge in December to get Golden State
30:07into a much better positive momentum moving forward.
30:11And he can do it on both ends.
30:13Torn ACL November of 24.
30:15Heal.
30:16He gets to the rim, but he missed it.
30:19Christie, three-quarter court.
30:22And there was contact on a heave by Christie.
30:25Now, they're going to check to see if there was still time on the clock.
30:28Horford and Melton are saying, no, no, no.
30:36There was a body bump right here on the extension.
30:43But the contact did come with zeros on the clock.
30:52Red light was on.
30:55Christie sold it a little bit.
30:56I'm curious if they're going to give three free throws from three-quarter court.
31:01It's obviously a bang-bang play, Bones.
31:08Expiration of time.
31:09Is this a great time to talk about phase two of the referees using the headsets?
31:14Yeah, this is real.
31:16This is the new technology for the officials
31:21with one ear covered in a headset,
31:24and it's an adjustment period for them.
31:26This is something different.
31:28But the communication is directly to Secaucus.
31:30There are conversations that are happening in real time
31:34to help the referees with efficiencies
31:36in some of the decisions that are made,
31:38and hopefully that will speed up some of these incidents.
31:42Well, the goal is to do it efficiently and to get it right,
31:47and the fact that you can also get a subscription to People Magazine
31:51while you're out on the court.
31:54Are people reading?
31:55There's an operator.
31:55Hold on a sec, Berg.
31:56Are people reading magazines?
31:58No, they're not.
31:59They're not.
32:00It's a very dated reference.
32:01Oh, my goodness.
32:02I take it back.
32:03Strike it from the record.
32:04You were telling me before the game
32:06how easy the crosswords were in People Magazine for you.
32:09Time had expired.
32:10There was no fouls in the play in the period before.
32:13No fouls.
32:13I'm glad we had that time together.
32:14We did.
32:15We did.
32:15That was unexpected.
32:18Back and forth.
32:20End of one.
32:22In Dallas, Golden State.
32:25Up on the Mavericks, 27-24 on Prime.
32:35What an amazing experience that was,
32:38and me, Cassidy, and Chef Larry
32:40are actually vacationing together
32:42during All-Star break.
32:44I went to bed dreaming of lemon pepper wings.
32:46Just saying.
32:47I am as one with lemon pepper.
32:50It is the best flavor.
32:51It's in my soul.
32:52Stan, you hear us.
32:53It's the best flavor.
32:54It's the first time napkins were optimistic.
32:57Watching you two.
33:00Well, we appreciate the folks from Wingstop.
33:04It was such a blast.
33:08You got some sauce.
33:09Still?
33:10Yeah.
33:10Still.
33:11You got a little something.
33:12Let's focus on the game.
33:13Right there.
33:14Start of the second quarter.
33:16Green couldn't grab it.
33:17Nembhard does.
33:19And Thompson gets a clean look at a tray.
33:24He'd set such a quick release from Klay Thompson.
33:27How many times have we seen that?
33:29Turnovers.
33:30Nembhard.
33:32Oh, getting physical with heels.
33:34And the scoop to the hoop goes for Ryan Nembhard.
33:37Now, Dallas, the number one team in turning turnovers into offense.
33:43Eighteen points a game for them in transition.
33:46Green turns the corner.
33:47Post, swing.
33:48They give Peyton the shot.
33:49They don't even contest it.
33:51And he misses it from three-point territory.
33:57Nembhard undrafted out of Gonzaga.
34:01Mark Few, the head coach, told Jason Kidd, you're going to love him.
34:05Christie off the mark.
34:07And Jason Kidd told us prior to the game, he was right.
34:10He loves him.
34:11And he's been so helpful to Cooper Flagg.
34:13Obviously, starting the year, Cooper playing the point.
34:16When them are teaming in, Cooper's numbers, they all went up.
34:20Off the offensive rebound.
34:21Post.
34:21Can't hit the three.
34:22And the rebound grabbed by Powell.
34:25We are tied at 29.
34:27Two minutes left in the second quarter.
34:29I think Jason Kidd will take a one three-pointer differential with Golden State at any time,
34:33especially after their first meeting.
34:35Golden State lit them up from the three-point line.
34:38Activity there as Buddy Heald got tied up with Powell.
34:42Golden State is shooting just 34% from the field,
34:45but Dallas has turned it over eight times in this first half.
34:50Flagg triggers in for Powell.
34:52Neff Hart from Aurora, Ontario.
34:58Flagg.
35:00Oh, contact.
35:01It's an offensive foul.
35:02Draymond Green beats Cooper Flagg into the bump.
35:07I think I read Cooper's lips.
35:08He said, that is so soft.
35:10And Draymond with a bit of an embellishment there on the drive.
35:13But if we have a shot of it, maybe we'll get to Cooper not happy that Draymond kind of pulling the chair on that time to get the charge.
35:22Warriors trying to break the tie here with Curry against Thompson.
35:27Still weird to see him in this Dallas uniform against Golden State.
35:32Post hits the deck.
35:34Flagg saves it.
35:35Curry is down.
35:36And now Curry is up.
35:39Thompson turns.
35:40Listening.
35:41Slap down.
35:42The follow jam.
35:44Flagg going to the top.
35:48Great timing by Cooper.
35:49Offensive rebound.
35:51And the quick putback.
35:52Heal.
35:53Return speed.
35:54Great Green gets hit by Powell.
35:57And Draymond Green is going to the free throw line.
36:00How many times in practice has Clay had to match up against Steph?
36:05And this time Steph with a bit of a mishandle.
36:07Cooper right on top of it.
36:08Man on the case.
36:09Gets down.
36:10And then the offensive putback there flying in there.
36:14Great hands.
36:15Great timing.
36:16And a good finish.
36:17Draymond Green shooting it at 68% of the free throw line this season in year number 14 in the lead.
36:28Has one more coming.
36:32Have you been in a situation where you lose a player of a certain stature at midway point of the year and you just know that hey the games are going to keep on coming and nobody is going to pity you.
36:43I can't remember midway bird but certainly later in the season or in a playoff run losing somebody that wasn't going to play the rest of the series and how much that impacted everybody's role.
36:54And the best teams they try to find a way to just collectively better be better in what they do.
37:00Not doing anything more.
37:02And that's where Golden State finds itself.
37:04The missed by Memhart.
37:05Curry.
37:06Perfect pass.
37:06Payton.
37:07Extra heel.
37:09Can't hit the three.
37:09Green keeps it alive.
37:11And it's grabbed by Thompson.
37:13Ahead.
37:13Christie turns.
37:14It's blocked by three.
37:16Nearly goes in.
37:17And it's Flarek on the follow.
37:21Clay a little late on the delivery to Christie.
37:23He took one extra dribble.
37:24That allowed Draymond to get the block.
37:26And Cooper.
37:27Man on the scene again.
37:29Payton to the corner.
37:30Post shooting practice.
37:32No.
37:34Rebound knocked over to Powell.
37:36Flag.
37:37Left-handed pass to the Thompson three.
37:40Book it.
37:40Mavericks are cooking.
37:5112-4 in the second quarter.
37:54Golden State struggling.
37:56One of seven from the field.
37:57Mavericks go up by five.
37:59It's time for From the Wing.
38:00Presented by the great people of Wingstop.
38:03Well, let's talk about two guys we're very familiar with behind the three-point line in the first quarter.
38:08All Steph Curry free.
38:09Three-pointers for him.
38:11Nine of the starters, 13 points from Steph.
38:14And then Clay.
38:15He gets into the action.
38:16And he's hit two of four from the three-point line.
38:18And Dallas right now with a five-point advantage.
38:21And Clay Thompson, fourth in NBA history and three-pointers made.
38:26Golden State is getting crushed on the offensive glass.
38:29Curry gets to the cuff and spins it in.
38:32And finally, Steph's first two-point bucket, a tough lefty off the glass.
38:36Six offensive rebounds for Dallas.
38:38That's turned into ten points.
38:40Christie lines it up.
38:41Short.
38:42Powell.
38:42Another offensive board for the Mavs.
38:47Ryan Nembhard.
38:50Transferred from Creighton to Gonzaga.
38:52And Green takes it away.
38:54Oh, he goes long for post.
38:57And Christie and Thompson were back there.
38:59Would you call that a post route?
39:01Yeah.
39:01No.
39:02No.
39:04Christie zigzags.
39:05And Tim Burr.
39:07Melton goes down.
39:08Powell goes down.
39:09Again, I go back to Draymond's decision.
39:11Steph is right next to him.
39:12And post is running with two guys getting back there.
39:16A bad turnover for Golden State.
39:18And Dallas comes right back.
39:20So the foul gets called on Melton.
39:23Curry and Green will get a breather.
39:28And Melton sits.
39:29Pajemski is in.
39:30So is Kaminga.
39:31Well, Melton remains in there.
39:36He's matched up with Thompson.
39:38Flack floated.
39:40He's fouled.
39:42And post can't believe it.
39:46So Cooper Flack going to the free throw line where he shoots it at 81%.
39:49Eight points, six boards.
39:54Time right now for our live update presented by FanDuel.
40:00Golden State minus two and a half.
40:02The over-under, 227 and a half for the Warriors and the Mavs.
40:07I was digging around, Bird, on some of the numbers from Cooper.
40:10Obviously, the point totals and the rebounds, the assists.
40:13But just in terms of how he's getting this done, look, 26% of the time he's going to be playing in pick and roll.
40:20He loves to get to that left hand.
40:21He has made 32 left-handed buckets on the season out of 99 attempts.
40:26He's so devastating.
40:27But the drive percentage, he's going to go left 64% of the time.
40:31And even with teams loading up on that side, he's still finding a way to be very effective.
40:36He's averaging 22 points per game in the Dallas wins.
40:40In the losses, the scoring number is down, as expected, 16.7.
40:46Kaminga mismatched with Nembhardt.
40:48Kaminga using his strength and size.
40:51Kick it out.
40:52Moody keeps the ball moving.
40:54Melton slashing to the rim.
40:56And that was crafty.
40:57Really good hesitation by D'Anthony getting into the lane and just keeping Cooper, who's a great shot locker, off balance.
41:04Flag ahead.
41:04Marshall the foul.
41:06He gets under but could not spin it in.
41:10On his horse, Pajewski.
41:12Lop it up.
41:12Slop it down.
41:14Kaminga.
41:15High flyer.
41:18Great late feed from Hodds and Kaminga.
41:21Way up there that time.
41:23Flag gets through the first wing.
41:25Kick to the corner.
41:26And that ball is cautiously tipped by Horford.
41:29And a foul is called on the floor.
41:32It's on Kaminga.
41:34The pod's in transition.
41:35He knew Kaminga had slept or snuck behind to get there.
41:39And you can kind of throw that thing just about anywhere for JK to get up and put it down.
41:45Let's go!
41:45Jonathan Kaminga hadn't played since December 18th before appearing in the game the other night.
41:56A jump shot doesn't go for Nembhard.
41:58And this time, Melton comes away with it.
42:01Looked like it could have been another offensive rebound for Dallas.
42:04Melton crosses, drives into Washington and scores.
42:07Second time, Melton has that hesitation around the rim just to keep the timing of a shot blocker off.
42:13At that time, P.J. Washington, the lean and the finish from Melton.
42:18And a technical foul called on Marshall.
42:22So, nine points for DeAnthony Melton.
42:26And Moody can tack on a point here for the Warriors and does.
42:33He's a 79% shooter and it's his first scoring of the night.
42:39And I didn't see where Najee's reaction was to the previous play, but he caught the ire of one of the officials and Moody knocks down the free throw.
42:49So, Warriors now up by three.
42:51We're just about at the halfway point of this second quarter.
42:547-0 run for Golden State.
42:59High screen set by Cissé.
43:02Marshall loses the ball, stepping in front, Kaminga.
43:07Turnover, Dallas, that's 11 now for the Mavs.
43:10Horford keep it moving, Pajemski lines it up.
43:14Tip in, doesn't go for Horford, trying to save it out of bounds.
43:19Al frustrated with himself, he had two hands, the ball was right in front of the rim.
43:22He just couldn't squeeze the orange that time.
43:26Hard drive, the speed of Brandon Williams.
43:30He is so confident going to the hoop.
43:33Great athleticism, and you mentioned it, that burst getting by the interior part of the defense for the Warriors.
43:39He was a major recruit coming out of high school, went to Arizona, dealt with injuries.
43:46He's got a great story.
43:48Moody, catch and shoot, bottom, a three.
43:50Yeah, Moody's had a run of some double-figure games here for the Warriors, just shooting really the eyes out of the basketball over the past few for Golden State.
44:01Averaging just under 11 points per game for Steve Kerr squad.
44:0443-39 Warriors, Thompson, one dribble and a J, it's off.
44:11Melton continues to fill up the box court.
44:17Pajemski, to the rim, it's blocked by Washington, he took a swipe at it, and it was clean.
44:23Washington, end-to-end, blocked by Moody.
44:30Kaminga, off to the races, right down the middle, and he's fouled.
44:35And Kaminga looks to be okay, but for a moment there.
44:41Bit of an awkward step, right?
44:43Yeah, he did, and he might need a moment.
44:45He's taking a chair on the baseline just to collect himself.
44:49Yeah, that left foot, I mean, definitely a bit of a turn, and you can see him a little bit ginger getting to the free-to-line.
45:00So it's the drive here, he takes a step, yeah.
45:04Left ankle, and then also caught Melton on the back end.
45:13Now Kaminga remains in there, he'll shoot his free-throws.
45:16Extend the Golden State lead to five.
45:20Christie back in.
45:25Kaminga already with a quick nine points.
45:32Jonathan Kaminga signed a two-year, $48.5 million deal during the offseason.
45:37There was a lot of speculation as to how this would play out.
45:40Ultimately, they came to terms.
45:42Mike Dunleavy, GM of the Warriors, will have decisions to make in regards to this roster.
45:50Everybody will around the NBA.
45:52The trade deadline is two weeks away.
45:54Two weeks from today, Washington misses on the push-up.
45:57And the rebound dug out of there by Moody.
46:00Well, the curious thing for Mike is now with Jimmy Butler's situation not being here for the rest of the year.
46:05And what did they do with Jonathan Kaminga, whose opportunity has now opened up for Moody.
46:10Melton misses badly from the outside.
46:12The rebound is tracked down by Washington.
46:15Golden State, 5-1, 2-1, 3-4, right.
46:18The lane just opened up for Marshall.
46:20There was nobody there.
46:23Zero resistance.
46:24And Steve Kerr takes a timeout.
46:2645-41, you're watching AWS Rivals Week on Prime, presented by Wingstop.
46:35Let's give you a recap of the Golden State Warriors.
46:38They started the season 13-12.
46:41Steph Curry continues to put up big numbers.
46:44He will turn 38 this season.
46:46Kaminga trade request.
46:48Warriors found a group 12 and 5 since December 20th.
46:53But, of course, the huge blow with Jimmy Butler going down, torn ACL.
47:02Meanwhile, CeraVe up your game, presented by CeraVe.
47:07It is Steve Kerr and what he has done.
47:11Not just this season, but throughout his career with Golden State.
47:15He's a Hall of Fame coach.
47:16He has a tremendous feel for situations, for handling his players, for rotations, and for dealing with adversity as well.
47:28I think the last thing is the most impactful one right now.
47:31It's dealing with the unknown for the Warriors.
47:34And for many years, the known was, I'll see you in the finals.
47:37He's had 14 guys that have averaged more than a quarter's worth of minutes than playing for him this year.
47:43And juggling the lineups to stay competitive in what Steph Curry, you know, as the career is winding down.
47:50There's great concern and care around this team still competing at a high level.
47:54After the Christie three, Moody couldn't answer.
47:58And now Dallas with a chance to regain the lead.
48:01Plank.
48:02What the hesitation.
48:04He just makes it look so easy.
48:08Kerr.
48:09Wanting to see his team push it, which they did, but the ball was knocked out of bounds by Dallas.
48:15Well, push it and retain possession of the ball.
48:19He wanted to take care of it.
48:21Again, Cooper on the left side.
48:23Bird to the left hand.
48:24The hesitation.
48:26Body control.
48:26And there's number 33 in terms of the field goals he's made with the offhand.
48:327-0 run.
48:33Flag now has 11.
48:37And that was too high for Santos.
48:40Turnover.
48:43You mentioned it.
48:44Turnover troubles.
48:46On the road, they average 17.7.
48:49Overall, but still seventh highest in the league at 15 and a half per game.
48:53And Steve Kerr recently told us, hey, we just didn't talk about it anymore.
49:00We talked about it so much that it became a huge issue.
49:04We decided not to talk about it.
49:06William is on the crossover.
49:08And he is a blur.
49:11Again, William's speed and getting all the way into the paint.
49:14We're not much rim protection there for Golden State.
49:16And another turnover for the Dubs.
49:19And that is number eight for the Warriors.
49:239-0 run for the Mavs.
49:27Williams for Powell.
49:28Now they get flag involved.
49:32Doesn't take the three.
49:33Instead, he brings out the veteran Horford.
49:36Pulls up.
49:38Brings out.
49:39It was around the world and off.
49:43Pajemski rushing up the floor.
49:44We approach two minutes to go on the second.
49:47Curry catching fire.
49:49Pajemski snags it.
49:50And a reload here for Golden State.
49:55Santos.
49:56Isolation.
49:57That's a kick.
49:59Flag.
49:59And really, that kind of play, Bert, is indicative of what Golden State has to avoid.
50:08Just don't force plays to Steph Curry because Jimmy's not there.
50:11Just don't force backdoor passes that are 50-50 and have another turnover.
50:15They've got to be patient.
50:17They've got to be poised and not rush things.
50:20A court-screw layup doesn't go for Green.
50:22Golden State has missed its last five shots.
50:26Williams, the trailer, get it back.
50:28Under two minutes to go.
50:29First half.
50:32Flag.
50:32Asking Williams to move into the area.
50:35They've got to switch.
50:36Pajemski.
50:37Flag into a crowd.
50:38Corner.
50:39Christie.
50:41Brings out.
50:42Pajemski.
50:44Clears it.
50:45Early for Curry.
50:47Drive.
50:48Dish.
50:49Extra.
50:49Pajemski.
50:51No.
50:55Lead feed.
50:56Marshall leaves it for Flag.
50:58We're down to a minute 20 to play in the second quarter.
51:05Marshall kick.
51:06Corner.
51:07Christie.
51:08Bullseye.
51:10Great job by Dwight Powell just holding off that screen on the box to give Christie a foot more space to let that three go.
51:18And that ends a 12-0 run as Santos laces a three.
51:25Under a minute to play now.
51:26Both teams have made six field goals from the three-point line.
51:30And we mentioned I think Jason Kidd would be fine with that.
51:35Williams to the 10.
51:39Eight points.
51:40Instant energy off the bench for Brandon Williams.
51:43And that was the toughest of the finishes he's had so far.
51:4830 points in the paint for the Mavs.
51:50Curry doesn't get the roll, but he is going to the free-throw line.
51:58Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey.
52:00Hey.
52:00Stay tuned for the hat.
52:02Presented by AT&T.
52:03Taylor Rooks, Blake Griffin, Steve Nash, Udonis Haslam, and that man, Dirk Nowitzki.
52:11That's the statue in front of American Airlines Center.
52:15News and notes around the NBA.
52:17Highlights and stats and much, much more.
52:20Perfectly captured with the one-legged jump shot in statue form.
52:30I still have nightmares about seeing that up close.
52:33In a lot of battles with the same Antonio Spurs and Dirk in the prime.
52:37Just an absolutely incredible all-time player.
52:40You went somewhere else as we put that image.
52:43I'm zoned out on that.
52:44I don't want to look away.
52:45It's like looking at the sun.
52:46There's PTSD, you had DTSD, Dirk, TSD.
52:54All-time, all-timer.
52:5653-50.
52:58Mavs, 12 and a half second difference.
53:00Shot clock to game clock.
53:01Christie, he got caught with three defenders in the area and turns it over.
53:08Curry with a shot clock and game clock winding down.
53:14Payton kicked green.
53:16Curry, a smooth feed.
53:19Payton contorts his body.
53:21Could not finish it.
53:22They've got seven seconds to work with.
53:25Williams with five.
53:27Williams splits defenders and he puts it in.
53:30Swiss cheese defense.
53:33Curry tosses it up.
53:35They nearly put it in.
53:37And three-quarter court.
53:40Steph Curry, that ball had eyes as it bounces off the backboard and rim.
53:45And we hit the break here in Dallas.
53:49Curry goes for 13 points.
53:52Flag, 11 points and nine boards at the half.
53:57We'll send to the studio and the half when we return.
54:0455-50, Mavs in front.
54:05You're watching EWS Rivals Week on Prime, presented by Wingstop.
54:09Half, presented by AT&T.
54:17Halftime in Dallas.
54:18Mavs lead the Warriors 55-50.
54:21Welcome on in.
54:22I'm Taylor Rooks with Dirk Nowitzki, Steve Nash, Blake Griffin, and Udonis Haslam.
54:26Four lead changes, six ties, 23 guys played in that first half.
54:30One guy that was doing a little bit of everything, though, was Cooper Flagg.
54:33And he is one rebound away from a double-doubleder.
54:35Yeah, Cooper's been playing well.
54:36He's been attacking.
54:38He's best, we all know, in transition when he can go downhill.
54:42Here, we have some clips of him crashing the offensive glass, playing hard.
54:47I mean, the one thing, he's a great competitor.
54:50And he's best when he's downhill, getting to the basket and in transition.
54:54Yeah, he's done a great job, like Dirk said.
54:56My thing is, you know, I think we need him to take that three-point shot
54:59if you're the Dallas Mavericks.
55:01But if you're not comfortable with it, and they're playing that far off,
55:04he's so good with the ball in his hands, and he can go both ways.
55:07Just attack that space, right?
55:09Get downhill, and you don't always have to get to the rim and score.
55:12You can also create for somebody else.
55:13But you can see how far Golden State's playing off of him.
55:17And he did a great job in the second quarter of just,
55:19nope, I'm not going to take this shot.
55:21Attacks the gap, gets all the way to the rim for a layup.
55:24So that's just something he'll learn as time goes on.
55:26Yeah, for the Warriors, UD, Jonathan Cummingo went to the locker room
55:31with under four minutes left.
55:32We will await an update on that.
55:34Before the game, you said you wanted to see him be aggressive
55:37and make an impact.
55:38How did he do that in the first half?
55:39We saw Draymond talk about it a few weeks ago on Nightcap
55:43about how this kid prepares.
55:45Trust me, there's no way you can go out and play the game he's playing
55:47if he doesn't stand and prepare mentally.
55:49Right here, he gets to his spot.
55:51He's doing everything he can offensively.
55:53He has 10 points.
55:54He's 3-for-3 from the field.
55:55He's 4-for-4 from the free throw line.
55:57And in a game right now when your best player, Steph Curry, is minus 18,
56:01it's beneficial to have a guy like Cummingo be plus 18
56:04to balance that out and keep you in this game right now.
56:06I'm so happy for him.
56:08I'm proud of the way he's responded, and I hope he's healthy
56:09and he can finish in the second half.
56:11And I really liked that moment with him and the young girl on court side.
56:15She was like, you can have my seat.
56:17Get some rest, yeah.
56:18Yeah, I mean, I think the Warriors got to feel fortunate.
56:21They're still in this game.
56:22I mean, they played poorly, 34% from the field, 24 from three.
56:25They got up 25 threes, only made six,
56:27and then getting beat 10-0 in the offensive class, second chance points.
56:31So, you know, we've seen the Warriors in this position win a ton of games,
56:34but tonight they haven't shown a lot that they're going to come back and play well.
56:37Yeah, the Warriors came into tonight with a 4-11 record
56:40when they shoot below 30% from three.
56:42They shot six for 25 from three in the first half.
56:45That is good for 24%.
56:47So, got some ground to make up.
56:49All right, it is time for Court Connection, presented by AT&T.
56:53Let's rewind to our pregame here.
56:55Oh, yeah.
56:56Bang, bang.
56:58Great court connection there.
57:00Did he turn around?
57:01Oh, he did.
57:01Oh, he did.
57:02I didn't see.
57:07Elite Steph Curry impression.
57:08Let him know you still got it, Dirk.
57:12There you go.
57:13That's why it works right now.
57:14The half, presented by AT&T, continues.
57:1681 points in a comeback win over the Raptors in L.A.,
57:20the second-highest scoring game in NBA history.
57:25Just stuff of a legend.
57:26And in game two of our doubleheader, it's L.A. versus L.A.
57:30LeBron and the Lakers looking for their third win in a row
57:33against the Clippers, who have won 13 out of their last 16.
57:38And there's some great news for Clippers fans.
57:41Chris Haynes reporting that Kawhi Leonard will play tonight
57:44in the second game of our doubleheader.
57:47And that is a welcome sign for Clippers fans, Steve.
57:50Well, that's exciting for me and Clippers fans,
57:52because I'd much rather see the Clippers play with Kawhi Leonard.
57:56I think that 13-3 stretch they had is a large part because of Kawhi Leonard,
58:01to no surprise.
58:02But I think some of their young guys have played well as well.
58:04Yeah, I think, you know, their young guys have come in
58:06and just been bodies, right?
58:07I think they're a much older team.
58:11They've given a chance to, you know, log down defensively.
58:15But you're right.
58:15When Kawhi is like this, they're a different team.
58:18And James Harden has had a great season.
58:20Hasn't shot the three as well,
58:21but he's always just in control of the flow of the game.
58:24And Zubak's back.
58:25Big Zubak there.
58:26To me, that's your favorite center, favorite center.
58:28He's so underrated.
58:29What he does, he guards the rim.
58:32He rebounds.
58:32He finishes at a high rate at the basket.
58:35So having him back definitely helps.
58:37Yeah, L.A. versus L.A.
58:38Got to love it.
58:39And speaking of L.A., make sure you stay with us here on Prime
58:41after the Lakers-Cupers game concludes.
