00:30So, it's the Knicks and the Nets for the third time this season.
00:33The Knicks beat the Nets twice in November.
00:34Both games were blowouts.
00:36And a win for the Knicks is desperately needed tonight.
00:39We compare the first 32 games of the season to the last 11.
00:43The numbers don't lie.
00:4423-9.
00:46And the last 11, 2-9.
00:48Look at the points over the last 11.
00:50In fact, the Knicks have failed to score 100 points in each of the last two games.
00:54You see the rest of the numbers a lot worse than they were over the first 32.
01:00As we now go to the men who will call it for you tonight.
01:02Tyler Murray and Clyde Frazier, guys.
01:05Thanks very much, Bill.
01:06And Clyde, those numbers, they tell the whole story.
01:08It's a slide that nobody saw coming for the Knicks.
01:10They've dropped 9 of 11 after battling for the third best record in the league in San Antonio just three weeks ago.
01:17And on Monday, they trailed by as many as 30 in the first half against the depleted Dallas Mavericks.
01:23And you see here from the first half in that game, the team captain Jalen Brunson trying to rally the troops.
01:28And we've seen many reports that after the game, he held a players-only meeting.
01:33Here's what we heard from Brunson and Josh Hart at yesterday's practice.
01:36It's a roller coaster over the season.
01:38You're going to have ups.
01:39You're going to have downs.
01:40But you've got to manage them as best you can.
01:42We're not managing our down right now as best we can.
01:46But we can't feel sorry for ourselves.
01:49We can't feel like things are just going to magically turn out for the better for us.
01:55We've got to go out there and we've got to make it better for us.
01:57How we've been playing has been not up to our caliber and, like I said, embarrassing.
02:03And we have to fix that.
02:05No one's going to fix it for us.
02:06We've got to dig ourselves out of the hole that we made.
02:09And we have the capability of doing it, but now we have to stop talking and go out there and do it.
02:17Our mindset has to be better.
02:19We can't focus on the things we can't control.
02:23We can control our effort.
02:24We can control the way we play defensively.
02:26We can, on that side of the ball, doesn't take as much skill.
02:31And so we've just got to be connected better.
02:34Some strong words there for the two leaders of this Knicks team or two of the team's leaders.
02:38And, Clyde, you've been a part of a lot of players-only meetings over the years.
02:41What's your experience been with these kind of discussions?
02:44Well, I've definitely been there, done that, folks.
02:47And what happens when you get to this point, you reach the fork in the road.
02:51So, in that meeting, everybody get a chance to say what they want to say, from the first guy to the last guy.
02:58Clear the air and, like Hart say, talk his cheek.
03:01Then you've got to go out on the court and do it.
03:03But when you're at the fork in the road, one road will take you to glory, the other one to purgatory.
03:10So, the Knicks have to figure it out tonight.
03:11Well, Brooklyn may be in a little bit of purgatory on their side.
03:15They've got the fifth-worst record in the league.
03:17But you always have to worry about a hot scorer like Michael Porter Jr.
03:21It's his first year, not with the Denver Nuggets.
03:24He's been allowed to shine.
03:25And he might be on his way to his first All-Star selection.
03:27He's been a real Nugget.
03:31Prolific scoring for Michael.
03:3225 a game.
03:34Seven rebounds.
03:36And you think he's about 6'7", but he's 6'11".
03:40Look how he moves and grooves.
03:42The motivation.
03:44And you know he has the infinite range with that three-ball.
03:47The Knicks have been vulnerable throughout the season with the three-ball.
03:50We know that in transition, on the ball defense.
03:54So, they've got to contain this guy tonight if they're going to continue their dominance
03:57over the nets at the world's most famous arena.
04:00Yeah, there have been a handful of shooters who have gotten hot against the Knicks lately.
04:04Porter was one of them back in November, but after getting 22 points in the first half,
04:09they actually held him to 0-3 from the field the rest of the way.
04:13It was a rough night on Monday, but Mitchell Robinson was one of the bright points.
04:17He had a double-double in the first half alone.
04:20That's the third time that's happened in his career.
04:22And he pulled down eight more offensive rebounds.
04:25He leads the league with about five a game.
04:27The Knicks have won 12 consecutive matchups over the Nets.
04:30And they'll have a chance to clinch another season series against their crosstown rivals tonight.
04:36And above all else, it's an opportunity to get back in the win column
04:39and get the second half of the season back on track.
04:42It's Knicks and Nets coming up next on MSG.
04:45And the Nets at Madison Square Garden tip-off coming up in just a few minutes.
04:49To get ready for a game that a lot of fans and players, too, have been anticipating
04:54after what happened on Monday night and a lot of the frustration in that locker room
04:59on Monday night after that loss to the Dallas Mavericks.
05:01Hi, everybody.
05:02Alan Hahn here in the Lexus GameSide studio.
05:04There's been a lot of talk after that game.
05:06And yesterday, the time for talk is over.
05:09The time for action is now for this Knicks team in a game like tonight.
05:13And the one thing you want to watch is the start of the game.
05:15As Caesars Sportsbook presents today's advanced statistics, and you look right there,
05:20part of the issue over the last 11 games has been the starts.
05:23As you see, opponents scoring over 30 points a game in first quarters
05:27and shooting a very comfortable 51%.
05:30And the 40% from three as well is something to keep an eye on
05:33because that shows you allowing an opponent to get way too comfortable.
05:38The Knicks cannot let the Nets be comfortable here at the Garden.
05:41Tip-off is next.
05:43You will not want to miss the start of this one.
05:45Home on a Wednesday night in need of a win against the Brooklyn Nets.
05:49New York is 2-0 against Brooklyn so far this year.
05:52This is going to be the third of four matchups this season.
05:55Starting lineups are presented by Genesis.
05:57Same starting five as last night for the Knicks.
06:00And the Nets are starting to play their rookies a little bit more.
06:03This is the second-youngest roster in the NBA, behind only Washington.
06:07Drake Powell, they got 22nd overall out of UNC.
06:10And then Jaegar Duhlman was their lottery pick.
06:13He went number eight out of BYU.
06:16It's time now for the GMC Keys to the Game.
06:19We are professional grade.
06:21See your local GMC dealer.
06:23All right, Clive, what do you got?
06:24I got tenacious D.
06:26The Knicks have not been doing that on the ball and with transition D.
06:31Moving and grooving.
06:33They've got to do that tonight because these young players try to do some back doors, pick and rolls.
06:38Bounding and astounding what the Knicks has done all season.
06:41Getting second and third opportunities.
06:42And the Nets have been a get-right game for the Knicks for the last couple of years.
06:47The week of Thanksgiving this season, they were 9-6.
06:50But then they beat the Nets in Brooklyn and went on to win 12 of their next 13 games, including the NBA Cup.
06:56You go back to last year, they started that season 5-6.
06:59And they wound up winning two in a row against Brooklyn.
07:02And that launched a stretch of 19 wins in 23 games.
07:06And it's certainly a tall order to ask for that kind of run, but that's the response the Knicks are hoping for
07:11after their second four-game losing streak in the month of January.
07:15These two teams have met 220 times, folks.
07:19The Nets have won 107.
07:21The Knicks have won 113 games.
07:24Brunson pulls up on a foul line and starts things off right for the Knicks.
07:27We mentioned the captain called a team meeting to talk things over.
07:31So he's off to an auspicious start.
07:34Defending Drake Powell.
07:36Almost lost the handle.
07:37Gets his screen from Claxton, the longest-tenured Knicks.
07:40This is the rookie, Diomann, for three.
07:42And he drills it over bridges.
07:44Yegor Diomann, just 19 years old out of Russia.
07:48He's averaging 10 points a game.
07:51And obviously his forte is a three-ball.
07:53And the Nets dropped two spots in the lottery this past summer.
07:57And they took Diomann at eighth.
07:58They've been happy with his play, especially his three-point shooting the last month or so.
08:02Runs it off the handoff from Towns.
08:04Got blocked by Claxton.
08:05Claxton's seven-footer.
08:07I haven't seen one block has it now.
08:09It's the third most blocks in the NBA over the last two-plus years behind Brooke Lopez and Victor Wimbanyama.
08:15Claxton, a $100 million man.
08:18So they just signed him to a long-term contract.
08:20His former teammate, Mikael Bridges, works the handle down the lane.
08:24Two guys came at him, so we'll find Ananobi.
08:26We mentioned dishing and swishing.
08:30Good job here by the Knicks.
08:31Bridges gets to his spot and splashes at home to put the Knicks in front.
08:35So the Nets have been giving up 125 points over the last two games.
08:39So they have, like the Knicks, are not focusing on the defense.
08:43Gilman's feeling it early, and he connects again.
08:46Yegor Gilman from downtown.
08:48And that was really Russia with love.
08:52He was sitting on that one, Claude.
08:5419 years old from Moscow as Bridges, works Porter, off the dribble.
09:02Crowded inside.
09:03It's out of bounds off of Brooklyn, they'll say.
09:06And Bridges is why the Knets team is the youngest team in the league, folks.
09:10They had five first-round draft choices.
09:13That is an NBA record.
09:16And they're playing mostly veterans the first month or so,
09:19but they're getting younger as Brunson, brick through three,
09:21thought some down low contact from Powell.
09:23Remember, the captain opened up the game 12 feet away.
09:27Claxton with good defense from Towns, can't hit inside.
09:29Yeah, Towns not creating a foul, which he's been very vulnerable to early on.
09:33On the other end, Towns with momentum.
09:36He'll get to the free-throw line, and you're right, Clyde,
09:38this is the most foul-ridden stretch of his career.
09:42He's committed five personals each of his last four games.
09:45It's never happened before for Carl Anthony Towns.
09:47Yeah, more than three of those have been on the offensive end for Towns.
09:50At the time, Sean, his agility, hostility.
09:52He gets to the line for two.
09:55That's why I love that last sequence.
09:56That was great verticality, excellent interior defense to stop Claxton,
10:00and then he gets aggressive on the offensive end.
10:03He's been averaging about seven free-throw attempts per game.
10:0883% shooting.
10:10He's at about six and a half right now.
10:12He's mentioned in so many rumors about trades now.
10:18But one thing you had to like was the effort on the glass these last three games.
10:2316 rebounds a night, five offensive rebounds.
10:27Just trying to generate offense however we can,
10:29even if the three-point shot hasn't been as consistent this year.
10:32Last year, he was behind Sabonis in the most rebounds, 11 a game.
10:38This year, you find Jokic still averaging about 11 per game.
10:42And he gets both foul shots.
10:44Mike Brown's talked all year about how difficult it is for Carl Anthony Towns
10:49to learn his offensive system.
10:5239 games to go, so they got to get it together.
10:55As Porter works out of a double team with Powell.
10:58Now it's Jokic, but he's knocked down two already.
11:01Bridges off his feet.
11:02Porter stepped beyond the line.
11:04He's got Brunson on him, so he'll hoist.
11:06Can't hit, and Hart gets the rebound.
11:07I like the swarming D that time by the Knicks.
11:10Doing a good job with double teaming.
11:12Towns up top.
11:14Shows the ball to Claxton.
11:16And hands to Brunson.
11:19Inside, Towns has the smaller Porter, and he takes advantage of the mismatch.
11:25Bulldozer finesse for Towns to start the game.
11:30And one of his most efficient games as a Knick earlier this year against Brooklyn.
11:35Jomen in and out, and Towns able to get the rebound.
11:38He was 14 out of 20 in Brooklyn in late November.
11:4237 points, and Inouye with the spin, and he draws the foul on Jomen.
11:46That one wouldn't drop with two free throws coming.
11:49The Knicks with a lot of pep in their step.
11:50We're seeing Towns moving and grooving.
11:53Brunson elusive.
11:55And now OG driving adroitly along the baseline.
12:02And there's a hack and whack to send him to the line for two.
12:06Watch any college football lately, Clyde?
12:08Yeah, yeah, yeah, I was watching it.
12:10Yeah.
12:10It's, uh, maybe the biggest Hoosier fan in the building, OG and Inouye.
12:15The man from Indiana, by way of London, England.
12:20He said back in his day, if they made a bowl game, it felt like a big year.
12:25And his two seasons in Bloomington, they went to six and seven, the Hoosier football team.
12:30And they are now national champions.
12:33Yep.
12:35He's slushed for and paying off for.
12:39His clacks didn't fix the handoff to Powell.
12:42Knicks doing a good job hounding.
12:44And Porter missed the buddy.
12:47Hart another rebound.
12:51All right, that was just seven, seven bounds doing a good job.
12:56Very aggressive.
12:57The Knicks are getting to the hoop.
12:58He wanted a foul there on Powell, but it'll be a Knick inbound.
13:05Powell doing a good job.
13:06Stand in front of him.
13:10Bridges off the inbound, finds Towns.
13:12He'll line it up and knock it down.
13:14Carl Anthony Towns, seven points in the first four minutes.
13:18He's been very erratic with the three ball.
13:19Make one, miss two.
13:21So, trying to get on now.
13:25Nets reluctant to shoot the ball now.
13:28Porter never shy, but the eight-nothing Knick run continues.
13:31And one and done for the Nets.
13:33No offensive rebound.
13:35Hart down the lane.
13:36Blocked by Claxton, but a whistle and a goal ten.
13:38Ten-nothing Knicks burst in the opening four minutes.
13:42Exactly the kind of start you were hoping for.
13:44Yeah, Hart had been flirting with driving and thriving.
13:47So, previously, the ball was knocked out of bounds.
13:49This time, he would not be denied.
13:51So, he'd given him two points on the block shot by Claxton.
13:55Look how quickly that ten-nothing run has happened.
13:58Here's Clowney.
13:59And they're going to get a foul on Ann and Obey fighting over that Claxton screen.
14:04There's no reason to create that foul.
14:05The guys are not scoring.
14:06Why are you fouling him?
14:08That's been a problem for the Knicks.
14:09It's been problematic for them all season.
14:12There's Claxton.
14:14He's having a career year.
14:16Thirteen points a game and four assists a night.
14:19He actually has the first two triple-doubles of his career this season.
14:23The center is leading them in dishing.
14:26Claxton, slowly down the lane, can't hit.
14:31They do a lot of dribble handoffs this next team under Jordy Fernandez.
14:35Brunson slashing.
14:37Claxton on his case, doing a good job.
14:42Brunson, he's matched up with the center.
14:44Claxton, he'll step back for two and drills it.
14:49He missed it.
14:49The captain opened the game in the paint, eight feet away.
14:52Then he missed a couple of shots and drain in this one.
14:55Very efficient start for the Knicks.
14:57A lot of it coming inside the arc as Djoman tries a shot put that grazes the front rim.
15:02Ball available.
15:03And Anobi got a hand to it, but Porter came up with it, missed the layup,
15:06and then back to Anobi at the seat of his pants.
15:08Nets becoming a basket case now.
15:12Into the corner for Brunson.
15:14Breaking down Clowney and draws the foul.
15:16That will lead us to a timeout with 6.48 to go in the first quarter.
15:21We're seeing the intensity and the efficiency he wanted to see tonight, Clowney.
15:25And the captain moving and grooving, shaking and baking as the Nets meet the ball to help them.
15:33All I'm saying is we didn't overhaul everything, throw everything out the window.
15:38But we've made some changes.
15:41And like I said before, my staff's been great.
15:45We have to, just like, you know, when you go through this, you tell your players to look in the mirror.
15:50It starts with me.
15:51I've got to look in the mirror.
15:52I've got to keep trying to find different ways to help them and to put them at their strengths.
15:56That was Mike Brown at practice yesterday, so not hitting the panic button, not completely overhauling what they do.
16:05But like we've seen all year, Clyde, this is a coaching staff making tweaks and trying to push the right buttons to get this thing right as the Knicks are in desperate need of a win.
16:14Yeah, like we said, they've reached the fork in the road.
16:16So they've got to try to change it and do better.
16:19So far, so good.
16:21Off to an auspicious start here, especially to the captain.
16:24He's at the line looking for two more.
16:28Brunson's got four points, and it's Carl Anthony Towns with seven to lead the way.
16:32And you have to like the defense so far, Clyde.
16:34They gave up two early threes to Yegor D'Oman.
16:38But since then, the Knicks have forced seven consecutive misses from Brooklyn, and it's now with 13-0 run.
16:44The Nets have been helping them.
16:45Terrible shot selection.
16:46They have no continuity and no spontaneity to start the game.
16:50You're going to see a lot of three-point attempts tonight from the Nets.
16:5448% of their shots are from three.
16:57That's the second highest rate in the NBA behind only Golden State.
17:03Another team made a substitution during that first media timeout as Porter ends the 14-0 Nick Rohn.
17:09He makes four three-pointers a game, which is third in the NBA behind only Steph Curry and Donovan Mitchell.
17:19Nets trying to tighten up their defense now.
17:23Towns hands back to Brunson.
17:24Speeds to the baseline.
17:26Back to Towns who wasn't ready for it, and the Knicks turn it over.
17:30Claxton, seven-footer.
17:31He can handle it, and he can score.
17:33He took it right to the rim.
17:34Yeah, going 40.
17:36Well, 80 feet off the bounce.
17:41Nick Claxton, six-eleven, 228 pounds.
17:48He said back in 2023, he's never lost to the Knicks in his career.
17:53Since he said that, it's been 12 straight New York wins.
17:57As Hart gets a friendly roll-up, a nice set-up from Carl Anthony Towns.
18:01Towns averages three assists.
18:03There was an excellent job finding a cutter that time in Hart.
18:07Claxton met by Hart, and they will call the foul.
18:09We said, you know, man, 4G made a foolish foul, and this time Hart.
18:14Maul and the guy, very obvious foul.
18:19You see what the rotation looks like tonight, Clyde.
18:21It's really the first time all year during this past week that just about everybody's available for the Knicks.
18:26Monday, we saw an eight-man rotation.
18:29It was only Robinson, Shammott, and McBride off the bench.
18:32Tonight, Gershon Yabusele is going to get some early run,
18:36along with Brunson, Bridges, Shammott, and Robinson.
18:39Robinson coming off a stupendous performance the last game.
18:4212 points, 15 bounds.
18:47Nick Spine 9, just over halfway through the opening quarter,
18:50and a steal right away off the bench for Robinson.
18:53Oh.
18:53Nick Spine 9, just over the turnover, tipped out of bounds.
18:58Got an assist from the captain.
19:00Not bad.
19:01He's averaging six a game after all.
19:04Zaire running up, destroying our table over here, folks.
19:08I said turnover, but this will stay with the Knicks.
19:11You kind of lose composure when the ball comes right at your client.
19:13You do.
19:14You can forgive me for that one.
19:15But being a former player helped me, Todd.
19:17I didn't panic.
19:19I wasn't looking to bail out.
19:22Thank goodness we got a Hall of Famer on the crew.
19:25McHale Bridges, meanwhile, helps the Knicks double up his former team.
19:29Nolan Traore, a rookie from France, has checked in.
19:37One of the five first-rounders this year.
19:39Zaire Williams' first shot is very short.
19:42And again, these guys not getting any rebounds after the missed shots.
19:45Now Brunson missed a three-tip slam, Robinson.
19:48Brunson, the quantum leap, much to the light of the crowd at the Garden.
19:58Claxton trying to break down Robinson, and he will draw the foul.
20:01Claxton is showing some dexterity, folks.
20:03Remember before, he went about 80 feet off of steel.
20:06Let's take a look at Robinson.
20:08We mentioned the 14 bounds the last game, eight on the offense.
20:12He's averaging about four offensive bounds.
20:14He's rising and surprising them with the ferocious stuff.
20:19That replay is brought to you by Motorola Razor.
20:22The raging Cajun is finding his game.
20:26He had a couple alley-oops directly from Brunson with no rim involved on Monday.
20:31Mike Pratt was asked about that today.
20:33It reminded us of during the preseason, before he had really coached Mitchell Robinson,
20:38he said that he can be one of the best vertical lob threats in the NBA.
20:43So, he's a huge fan of Robinson, even beyond the blocked shots and the offensive rebound.
20:49Saw Cam Thomas second for the Nets.
20:52He can be prolific, but he's been very injury-prone.
20:56So, they're looking for some offense, and he can provide it.
21:00He's one of just two Nets ever to have multiple 40-point games against the Knicks.
21:05The other, of course, Bernard King.
21:08So, both of those 40-point efforts from Thomas resulted in net losses.
21:14In the corner for Yabu Selle.
21:16Too strong.
21:18Robinson fired the rebound off of Traore, but apparently he stepped out of bounds first.
21:22Yeah, but you like the effort.
21:24That action right in front of the Knick bench.
21:26Robinson's still on the low.
21:31Look at the foul right there.
21:33But tomorrow, he was clinging to the guy's jersey.
21:36Look at that.
21:37Should be a foul.
21:38Then he shoves him.
21:40Yeah, I think if they challenge that, you might get approximate foul ruling, but still early.
21:45Knicks by 11.
21:48Thomas able to go to the backcourt off the Seamus deflection.
21:51Thomas infinite range, folks, with the jumper.
21:52He threw it up.
21:55Sharp came back down with it.
21:57Surrounded by Knicks bigs, and he slips it through anyway.
22:00Nifty finish from De'Ron Sharp, the fifth-year big out of UNC.
22:04And his forte is physicality, hustle and muscle.
22:07You saw at that time underneath.
22:08He's averaging seven points a game.
22:11And five offensive rebounds here in November.
22:13And his runs got blocked from behind by Williams.
22:16He can be a pesky defender at 6'9".
22:19On the other end, Williams backs it through.
22:21And let's show you defense can be your best offense.
22:24Previous desire ran over the scorer's table.
22:28Then he blocked a shot on Brunson.
22:29And wheeling and dealing off the glass now.
22:31Giving the net some momentum.
22:3424-17.
22:36Knicks with a hot start.
22:37Still it.
22:37You can place your bets in just a few taps.
22:40It's made with New Yorkers in mind.
22:42It's direct.
22:43It's no nonsense.
22:43And it's the best way to join in on all the sports betting action.
22:47Knicks fans stay ready for game day.
22:55With official Knicks thread.
22:56Scan the QR code to shop city.
22:58Statement, association and icon jerseys today.
23:01And rep your squad.
23:03This is the city edition court they're using tonight.
23:06But the Knicks are in the association white uniforms.
23:10They're 16 and 12 when they wear these.
23:11Another vociferous crowd here at the world's most famous arena.
23:16And all the sounds tonight have been positive.
23:19As Deuce McBride checks into the game for the first time.
23:21With Brunson, Shamit, Anadoby and Robinson.
23:26Deuce struggled the previous game.
23:28One for eight from the field.
23:30One of four from behind the arc.
23:32Missed his first seven.
23:33Got the last one.
23:34Brunson's wide open.
23:35And he nails those three.
23:37Captain right in front of the Knicks bench.
23:39Again, the good decision and switching.
23:40He missed his first two triples.
23:42But now he's got to gain high nine points.
23:47Here's Williams.
23:48Marked by McBride.
23:50Shamit broke up the dribble handoff.
23:52Careless pass by Weaves.
23:532-1-2 the other way.
23:54Brunson breaking down the rookie trowler.
23:56And a left-hand finish.
23:58Shaking and peaking.
24:00Yeah, must send it a light in the crowd.
24:04One of the best first quarter scorers in the NBA
24:06has 11 points already.
24:07Thomas couldn't hit the three.
24:11Captain moving and grooving.
24:12Look at the pep in his step.
24:13Steps into a three-pointer.
24:16Rebound Porter.
24:18Porter averages seven bounds to go over to 25 points.
24:21Three assists.
24:25Next led by as many as 13 earlier.
24:28It's back up to 12 now.
24:29Shamit fights this around the screen.
24:31And Porter left the three-pointer short.
24:33You see the Nets.
24:34All of their shots are three balls, folks.
24:36With Claxton out of the game.
24:37Everything is from behind the arc.
24:40See Brunson quickly looking up court.
24:41Trying to push the pace more, perhaps.
24:43Like we saw so much of earlier in the year.
24:48Nolan Traore is going to get hit with a personal foul.
24:51Look at the summits allowing Brunson to shake and pick and wheel and deal off the glass.
24:59So he's been thrilling enough with his antics.
25:02So Mike Brown, folks, his system, he wanted more threes.
25:06Quicker pace.
25:07Ball movement.
25:08So we're seeing that tonight from the Knicks.
25:11It's a 43-pointers a game.
25:13And Robinson thought he got fouled by Danny Young.
25:17A belated call.
25:18Danny Wolfe, rather.
25:19They will get Wolfe the rookie out of Michigan for his first personal.
25:23He was a Marlon Robinson.
25:24That's why Robinson had to try to tip it in with his left hand.
25:28But it was well after that foul.
25:32But at least he got it right.
25:33Robinson had a place he's not comfortable.
25:36He's at the line.
25:37The saga continues, Clyde.
25:39He started 6 of 28.
25:41Then he made 10 in a row.
25:43But since then, he's 3 for 13.
25:45But I like his body language.
25:46He's no longer petrified to be there.
25:49He shows some confidence.
25:51It's something you hear from Jalen Brunson a lot.
25:54These players get confidence because of how hard they work.
25:58They don't feel pressure in the big moments.
26:00They just trust the work they've put in.
26:02Mitchell Robinson, you can tell he's getting more confident
26:05because of the long hours taking all these free throws.
26:09As you can see, he's going to have to do his distinction
26:11of having more rebounds than points, but maybe for his career.
26:15There's a good-looking foul shot.
26:16He's back up by 13.
26:25Final two minutes opening quarters.
26:28Strava already getting a lot more playing time lately
26:30after plenty of G-league time in the first two months.
26:34Now Sharp.
26:34Trying to get around Robinson.
26:37Five to shoot.
26:38Good team by the Knicks.
26:40Williams threw it out of bounds off of Brunson's leg.
26:43Just 1.7 to shoot.
26:44You see the Knicks keeping the man in front of them.
26:46Not looking for help.
26:48Moving their feet.
26:49Seeing the ball.
26:50Seeing their man.
26:51Tenacious D now by the Knicks.
26:52Off the inbound, Thomas connects.
27:01What a shot at the end of the horn right from the corner.
27:04We mentioned the infinite range by this guy, man.
27:06He can fill it up.
27:09Now McBride off the dribble.
27:10Steps back on Traore and connects.
27:15Deuce has augmented his game, stopping and popping.
27:18Shooting off the bounce now.
27:19Thomas again.
27:23Obviously known for his scoring,
27:25but he had a career-high 10 assists last weekend against the Bulls.
27:29Off the hesitation, Traore's floater is blocked by Robinson.
27:33No new shot clock.
27:35The ball did not hit the rim.
27:36Tough step back.
27:37Thomas can't hit this one, and Robinson gets the rebound.
27:41It's omnipresent again on the glass.
27:46I like Williams.
27:47He's howling Brunson, trying to put some chilling on him.
27:50Got that length and quickness.
27:51San Anobi spin cycle.
27:53Somehow got it out to Shamit.
27:54Tip to Brunson.
27:57They'll take Thomas off the dribble.
27:59His spin move leads to a wide-open Shamit three.
28:02Got it!
28:07Yeah, they're moving and grooving nicely now.
28:10Largest lead for the Knicks.
28:11They're up 15.
28:12Now Wolfe got rejected by Robinson.
28:14Brunson.
28:17Brunson in a hurry.
28:18Full head of steam.
28:19Fox Gamit for another three.
28:24Back-to-back three-pointers for Landry Shamit.
28:27Off Jalen Brunson dimes.
28:29Knicks undulating, devastating now.
28:32Shamit two consecutive three balls.
28:35He had been three out of 13 since missing 25 games with that injured shoulder.
28:44Good to see the three-point shot back in rhythm.
28:47Nice to see the Knicks running and gunning like this, man.
28:50The cohesion.
28:52The energy.
28:53The synergy.
28:55Everything going for them in the first quarter.
28:57We'll get a head start on Brunson's second-quarter rest.
29:03Captain and prolific as he goes to the bench.
29:06Talk about setting the tone, Clyde.
29:0711 points, three assists.
29:11Only made one three-pointer, but that's all he needed to establish what is right now an 18-point Knick lead.
29:17Thomas, a wild shot at the end of the quarter.
29:19And the Knicks, after scoring just 22 points in the opening frame on Monday, put 38 on the board against Brooklyn.
29:27And maybe just as encouraging, they only give up 20 points.
29:31Dramatic, emphatic play by these Knicks.
29:33Much to the delight of a capacity crowd at the world's most famous arena.
29:38They finish the quarter on a 14-3 run.
29:41Brunson leading the way with 11.
29:42And Carl Anthony Towns at seven points in the quarter.
29:45Knicks lead the Nets 38-20.
29:47Time now for quarter number two.
29:49Thanks very much, Bill.
29:51Knicks basketball is presented by Chase.
29:54And this Knicks team looking a bit more familiar tonight.
29:57Clyde Frazier, last 11 games on defense.
30:02They've allowed 30 points a game in the first quarter.
30:05Opponents shooting over 50%, but quite the opposite for this Brooklyn Nets team tonight.
30:10Yeah, the Nets, into this game, they lost their last two games.
30:13They've been giving up 125 points per game.
30:16So it's continuing here tonight.
30:18They're Swiss cheese defense.
30:21Knicks start the quarter with McBride, Hart, Shamit, and Anobian Towns,
30:25who commits his first foul on a Cam Thomas drive.
30:28Thomas screwed and clever.
30:30You saw that three ball in the corner that he shot.
30:32He has the infinite range, also can wheel and deal off the bounce.
30:37He's at the line for two.
30:38He's just been injury-prone, Ty.
30:41Can't stay healthy.
30:42It's his fifth year with Brooklyn.
30:44It could be his last.
30:44He signed a one-year deal in the offseason.
30:46So an unrestricted free agent next year.
30:52And as he gets the first.
30:56Knicks fans, join us for Pride Night, presented by Delta on Tuesday, January 27th.
31:01With a Knicks take on the Kings at 7.30 p.m.
31:04Scan the QR code or head to Knicks.com to get tickets.
31:07Yeah, you should always be confused by that, Ty.
31:09I always thought they'd be saying, Clyde Night.
31:11I might as well.
31:13Maybe we can celebrate you too, my friend.
31:17Whistling a foul away from the ball as Josh Hart went down.
31:21And it's going to be, I believe, another foul on Danny Wolfe.
31:24It was interesting how Hart described the team's play.
31:27He said, our play has been embarrassing.
31:30And our defense has been abysmal.
31:32He was sounding like me.
31:35Someone came up to you today, Clyde.
31:36He was a fan.
31:38So happy to meet you.
31:39And the person they were with said, she's percolating right now.
31:45The Knicks are percolating.
31:47How about that?
31:47That's a good slide for her.
31:49Josh Hart for three off the dribble.
31:51That's his first three-pointer.
31:53And the Knicks are out to a 19-point lead.
31:58They're moving.
31:58That's just on the perimeter.
32:00Nothing in the...
32:01What has happened to Flaxton?
32:04He started out suspiciously and he's on the bench.
32:06And now a steal for Shamik.
32:08And Inouye right to the rack.
32:12Speaking of embarrassing,
32:14the Nets are getting embarrassed now by the rampaging Knicks.
32:19Knicks have forced four turnovers.
32:21It's led to eight points.
32:23None more emphatic than those last two from OG Inouye.
32:25As Jordy Fernandez needs a timeout.
32:30Knicks in control.
32:31This is the team we saw in December.
32:34And that was a December to remember.
32:36The Knicks were 11-3.
32:38They were thriving.
32:40We were talking about maybe three or four Knicks on the All-Star team.
32:43So they've got back their swag now.
32:46Devastating.
32:47And Duncan has you covered.
32:49From late nights to early mornings.
32:50America runs on Duncan.
32:56Knicks on a roll up 21.
32:58Time now for our trivia question brought to you by Cadillac.
33:00Mikael Bridges is one of four players who scored 40 points for both the Knicks and the Nets.
33:05Who are the other three?
33:07Post your answer to hashtag Cadillac Trivia.
33:10Well, you gave us one time.
33:11They were listening.
33:12You gave us one of the guys.
33:13It's a fun little bonus.
33:15If you tuned in right for the opening tip, yes, you will have one of those answers.
33:18As sharp powers his way inside.
33:24I was stunned the other night.
33:26It was a rare trivia question where you were the answer.
33:30And your fellow Hall of Famer, Mike Breen, did not guess you as the answer.
33:35Yeah, you were with Ewing.
33:37Patrick.
33:38Consecutive All-Star starts.
33:41Very reasonable guess, by the way.
33:44McBride off the dribble.
33:46Rebound Thomas.
33:51This is the...
33:52Close to the biggest lead the Knicks have had in a game since December 9th at Toronto when they were up by 24.
33:59But this game reminded me the last time the Nets were here.
34:01They were embarrassing.
34:03And it continues another ignominious performance at the Garden.
34:08Right in front of the Knick Pinch this time.
34:11So the Knicks will have it there.
34:14And last time the Nets were here, the Knicks beat them by 36 points.
34:19This guy honed his skills on the ground.
34:21That's right.
34:22Yeah.
34:22Inbounded to Ananobi.
34:26He actually gave him his first shot in the NBA as Shannon pulls up and misses the foul line jumper, but an offensive rebound for Ananobi.
34:33Yeah, that's when they were with Sacramento.
34:35Oh, Williams in the passing lane.
34:37Striding ahead of Hart.
34:38It'll bank it in.
34:39Zaire has been hustling, doing a good job.
34:42It was a story on ESPN.com from Brian Windhorst about their connection as we get an offensive foul on Josh Hart.
34:51It was actually back in 2009 when Brown was coaching the Cavs.
34:54He gave Fernandez an internship.
34:56And Jordy Fernandez worked his way up to what is now his first head coaching job.
35:00And in year two, he is doing a sensational job.
35:05The Nets, of course, in transition, looking toward the draft lottery, but they play hard, it would seem, almost every night.
35:11Yep.
35:11Except tonight, their D has been very porous.
35:16It was Sunday against Chicago that Fernandez made a statement by starting the second half with only one of his regular starters, Nick Claxton.
35:27He said he wanted to get a response out of his team.
35:29They still lost the game, but he's the kind of young coach willing to make those moves.
35:33He's doing that tonight.
35:35Took Claxton out.
35:37That's right.
35:37And another turnover for the Nets.
35:39McBride draws the foul, and he'll get free throws.
35:42He can't believe he missed it.
35:46Yeah, so he's resting his stars again.
35:49Let's take a look at this warm and suffocating Nick defense.
35:53So, dude swooping, not hoofing, but he'll go to the line for two.
35:57You're right, Clyde.
35:59It's five guys on the floor right now for the Nets, all off the bench.
36:03Williams, Traore, Thomas, Sharp, and Wolf.
36:08Yep.
36:08You see Deuce McBride, he's a prolific three-point shooter.
36:12So, Claxton was off to a good start.
36:17So was Porter.
36:19Dimon, is that his name, the rushing player?
36:21Yep, Yegor Gilman.
36:22Yeah, he made a couple of threes, but they are relegated to the bench now.
36:26Porter sat after ten minutes, missing five of his first six shots.
36:33McBride had missed the second.
36:37Hernandez said, after pulling this move recently,
36:40it has to be a complete effort for 48 minutes.
36:44See how the Nets respond.
36:45Knicks up 18, early second quarter.
36:51Wolf steps back on Towns.
36:55Long rebound McBride.
36:58The Nets, like the Knicks, felt the raft of the Suns.
37:03Their last game in Brooklyn.
37:05Phoenix won here on Saturday.
37:07They went to Brooklyn and won on Monday.
37:09What about, they went to Philly.
37:11Envy Philly.
37:12They did.
37:12The Suns, man, they're playing some ball.
37:15Another young coach making a name for himself.
37:17Jordan Ott, first year with the Suns.
37:19As Towns took it to the rack, but got blocked by Sharp.
37:22Traore, the rookie on the move to his fellow first-year player, but they missed it.
37:26Wolf's got to come away with a foul or both on that play, man.
37:30McBride walks into a three.
37:33Rebound, tipped by Bridges, and Towns has it.
37:36Towns getting balled again.
37:38It took a while for that call to Coach.
37:39I knew he was in trouble, so he commits the foul.
37:43And that's, uh, no more fouls to give.
37:47So, we got a vacillating pace.
37:51All right, here you say Bridges is doing a good job keeping the ball all the way from Sharp.
37:56And there's the mauling by the Nets on Towns.
37:59He had to miss match.
38:00He knew it.
38:01Sharp trying to come over, but belated attempt.
38:04So, the Knicks will have it right in front of Celebrity Road.
38:08That's Traore's third foul.
38:11Now, Claxton is back.
38:15And he gets the Carl Anthony Towns assignment.
38:18And Porter.
38:19Off the jab step.
38:23Towns left and short.
38:23Offensive rebound, Robinson.
38:25Balls have seemed to gravitate to a Robinson.
38:28Towns for three.
38:30He's made both of his first two three-porters.
38:33And using his second opportunity, his team's unsuccessful.
38:36So, good job by Robinson bounding, giving him a second opportunity.
38:40Three-point shots coming around, Clyde.
38:42He's nine for his last 19.
38:44Claxton in the paint.
38:45Towns avoids fouling him.
38:48Sharp or rare three-pointer.
38:50Too strong.
38:50Not his forte.
38:52Sharp or more of a two-point guy.
38:54He's six of 29 for the year now from beyond the arc.
38:58Bridges working on Traore.
39:01He's got three fouls.
39:02He tries to turn around.
39:04And Claxton cleans it up.
39:05Again, Claxton's dexterity.
39:07He's bringing it up.
39:08Nolan Traore, driving kick.
39:15Another try for Sharp.
39:16Another miss.
39:18There's a reason he's open, folks.
39:22That last shot from Sharp was actually ruled a two as Bridges looks around and realizes he's the best option.
39:28Timeout Jordy Fernandez.
39:30Bridges had seven points on Monday.
39:32Already up to six tonight against his all-team.
39:35And the Knicks have a 23-point lead.
39:37Their defense has been suffocating.
39:40The offense has been lethal.
39:44Everyone's showing the Midas touch for the Knicks.
39:46Hoping for a 23-point lead nearing the midway point of the second quarter.
39:50Register for our Fan First program for an opportunity to receive early access to tickets, special offers, and more.

40:02It is Jalen Brunson with a game-high 11, even though he hasn't come back into the game so far in the second quarter.
40:09They got 10 points from Carl Anthony Towns, 7 from Josh Hart, and 6 apiece from Bridges and Shamit.
40:15And you've got an energized Knick team tonight.
40:17Everyone playing with gusto.
40:19Especially their defense.
40:21That has been their best offense.
40:24We've seen a lot of teams across the NBA.
40:26When you see shots go in, that just intensifies your defensive effort.
40:30And the Knicks are 6 of 11 from downtown, but you can tell it's more than just that.
40:35They wanted to come out with a strong defensive intensity.
40:39Clowney back into the game.
40:41He takes 6 and a half three-pointers a night, even though he's shooting just 32%.
40:46Last time he saw the Knicks, he had a career-high 31 points.
40:50Can't get on the books tonight, though.
40:52You're right, though.
40:52Shots were dropping that night in November.
40:54And Ananobi stepped on the sideline.
40:57Court 50 feet wide?
40:58Not wide enough.
40:59Oh, gee.
41:02That's top five Clyde-ism for sure.
41:05Right in front of the Knick Pince as well.
41:07They had a good look at it.
41:10Their lottery pick, Yegor Geoman, back into the game, wearing the number that he was selected in this summer's drafts.
41:17Drake Powell back into three.
41:22McBride tough off the dribble three.
41:24Unless you're a deuce McBride right now, he's hitting everything.
41:28That's his first three-point attempt.
41:32And a 9-0 Knick run.
41:36Whistle in a foul against the Knicks.
41:39Knicks have not been fouling much tonight, moving their feet, seeing the ball, seeing their man.
41:44Excellent communication thus far.
41:46So this will be a non-shooting foul.
41:48The Nets have it adjacent to their bench.
41:50McBride just picks up his first.
41:52There's a Nick brain trust right there.
41:55Looking pretty good right now.
41:58Mike Pratt had some recent comments about the defense that gave us some hope that it was turning a quarter.
42:03He said, despite the loss on Saturday, their defensive effort against Phoenix was the best he'd seen in a long time.
42:09And they held the Suns to just 106 points, but they were held to only 99.
42:14For the second consecutive time, Tyler, they haven't scored 100 points.
42:19Brunson speeds inside.
42:21And it looked like he shuffled the pivot foot.
42:24Knicks will turn it over for the fifth time.
42:25Claxton doing a good job hounding Brunson.
42:29Brunson could not elude him.
42:30Two consecutive turnovers.
42:31Previously, OG was standing on the sideline, and now the captain.
42:37But you're right about the offense, Clyde, that's maybe been the most perplexing part of this current slide.
42:43They scored at least 100 points in every game all the way through December.
42:46But then four times this month, they've been held under the century mark.
42:51There's cloudy banks at home around Ananoban.
42:53Well, I guess his first scoop of the evening.
42:58You better stop clowning around.
43:01He only takes four two-point shots a game.
43:06Mostly does his work from three.
43:08He's a young guy, too.
43:09Not very.
43:10Just his third year out of Alabama.
43:12What a pass from Bridges to Brunson.
43:14But he can't cash in.
43:15Robinson can, though.
43:17Robinson, the quantum leap.
43:20Yeah, what about the fingertip control there?
43:23And the physical inside was Nick Claxton.
43:25Those two guys are the longest tenured players for their respective teams.
43:30Yeoman misfires.
43:32Let's get in some second opportunities now.
43:34Clowning doing a good job.
43:36Powell off the catch.
43:37Very short.
43:37You can see some of the Nets aiming their shots and not showing a lot of confidence.
43:43That one's off.
43:44Porter.
43:49Take a look at the grand.
43:50Do it a spin to a Mitch Robinson on the offense.
43:54There is the quantum leap.
43:56Nice, soft touch.
43:58For the big fella.
43:59That concentration on his face as he angled it in.
44:02He had a couple of tip-ins on Monday.
44:04Part of that first half double-double.
44:06Most of his shots inside are ferocious.
44:10With the tomahawk stuff.
44:12He likes to try to tear the basket down.
44:14Someone tore down the basket last night.
44:16I didn't see that.
44:17Yeah, yeah.
44:18In the pregame, somebody broke one in the baskets.
44:21Oh, there was that long delay in Houston, right?
44:23Yeah, yeah.
44:24In the Houston game.
44:25Spurs-Rockets, yeah.
44:26I think of the 22-minute delay before they got going.
44:30Brunson in the lane.
44:31And Nobby finds Bridges.
44:32Catch and shoot.
44:33Three.
44:33No.
44:34But that's the kind of ball movement the Knicks made a hallmark in the first half of the season.
44:39Yeah, it's contagious enough.
44:42Geoman picked up his dribble, fired it too hot to handle for Porter.
44:46And the Knicks forced the sixth Brooklyn turnover.
44:49That play indicative of the Nets' play here.
44:51Stumbling, bumbling.
44:52Inept, incoherent right now.
44:5726-point Knick lead.
44:59Remember Monday, that was their first, and they hope only, wire-to-wire defeat of the year.
45:04The game was tied at two, but the Mavericks led the rest of the way.
45:08Baseline leader for Bridges won't fall.
45:10Claxton does a good job contesting that time on Bridges.
45:17Now Powell has had two good games against the Knicks in his rookie year.
45:2115 points and three assists in both of them.
45:25Now Porter off the Claxton dribble handoff.
45:27Stripped by Towns.
45:28Can't lose to Brunson.
45:29Porter dribble right into the double team along the baseline.
45:33Hard on the baseline drive.
45:34Up top for Towns.
45:36Trying to get past Porter, and they will whistle an offensive foul on Carl Anthony Towns.
45:42You mentioned almost three offensive fouls a game on Towns.
45:46Using that elbow, he likes to push off.
45:49So, let's see.
45:51Good defense by Porter.
45:54You see right there, the shove at the last moment.
45:57I saw Claxton pantomiming the move just off to the left.
46:00Those are tough, Clyde, because Porter initiates the contact,
46:04so it's almost a reaction from Towns to hook with the offhand,
46:08but that's much more noticeable than the initial touch by Porter.
46:12And Towns does lead the Kniggett offensive fouls as Powell gets on the board.
46:16Yeah, the 15-footer by Powell.
46:20The Nets can look forward to trade hoops, but they can't get stops.
46:25Bridges' quick trigger.
46:26Hits a three.
46:27McHale Bridges with his first three ball.
46:29He's got nine points.
46:38Bank shot wouldn't go for Claxton.
46:41Towns was a good D that time, not fouling.
46:44The Nets have been held to just ten points in the quarter.
46:46Towns offers down the lane, and they got him again.
46:51On the other side with the other hand, he commits the same offensive foul,
46:56and now he's got three personals.
46:57And he gets the worst of it.
46:59Watch what happens to Towns, folks.
47:02He's going to collapse on his back.
47:05After all of this, that insults the injury.
47:08Watch this.
47:09Woo-hoo.
47:11Yeah, he took a shot.
47:13Painful fall.
47:13And you're the culprit.
47:19Well, it's a shame he played so well.
47:20Ten points, three rebounds, two assists.
47:24And two consecutive offensive fouls.
47:26There was a moment on Monday when the Knicks started to get rolling,
47:29and he committed that flagrant foul on a three-point shot
47:32as Powell took Robbins into the rim,
47:35and he'll wind up with a free-throw line after crashing over a camera operator.
47:39I mentioned the last time Powell was at the free-throw line with a jumper.
47:42So, this time, moving and grooving nicely to get back to the line to shoot two.
47:48Powell is an example of how the Nets are looking toward the future
47:51more than perhaps they were in the first two months of the season.
47:55He started five of the last six games now.
47:58After not getting a ton of playing time early.
48:00He's the cousin of Hubert Davis, played for Hubert at North Carolina.
48:05So, big family there of athletes down there.
48:1043-inch vertical.
48:12Wow.
48:12Yeah, they love his athleticism to a potential Powell,
48:15the 22nd overall pick out of North Carolina.
48:18He's from Durham.
48:19Yeah, only 20 years of age.
48:22And I suppose that was the thinking with the Nets not trading any of those five first-round picks.
48:27They used all of them, and whether it's a project or maybe you guys ready to contribute right now,
48:32they're hoping one of those can hit and become a franchise player.
48:36Yeah, Averton's six points has four now.
48:41But with the two free-throws, it's still a 25-point Nick Lee.
48:46Remember, the Knicks were held to just 47 points in the first half on Monday.
48:50And Anobi, with some power, missed the shot, and Claxton cleans it up.
48:54Again, Claxton bringing the ball up the court.
48:58And they will call the foul on Robinson.
49:01Sacks is a southpaw.
49:03That's how you're using the right hand to bring the ball up.
49:06And now both Knicks-Biggs have three personal fouls.
49:11Oh, it's Claxton.
49:12He has a couple of blocks tonight.
49:14Averaging one per game.
49:1612 points, eight rebounds.
49:19Four scissors.
49:19Four scissors, at least the club, folks.
49:24Yeah, we mentioned it earlier that the Nets have the most points in the league off dribble handoffs.
49:29That is something the Knicks do quite a bit as well, but there really is a steady diet of it from the Nets.
49:34Stay tuned at the end of the half.
49:36Well, the halftime report sponsored by Verizon.
49:39Bill Pito, Wally Zerbiak in studio.
49:42First half highlights and the award-winning Audi MSG 150.
49:47Claxton play collegially.
49:49That's the University of Georgia.
49:51By the way, Claxton, they're going to show that broken backboard from Spurs Rockets during the MSG 150.
49:57Oh, okay.
49:58Yeah, we haven't seen one of those in a long time.
50:00But make sure you stay tuned in.
50:01Ha-ha.
50:04Brunson posting up Powell.
50:06We'll call that foul before the shot, so no three-point play.
50:09And no shot.
50:10That's a knot in the penalty.
50:12But they have no more fouls to give now.
50:14They brought in Gershon Yavuzeli with Robinson and Towns in a bit of foul trouble.
50:23You see, Jordy Fernandez, 42 years old from Spain.
50:28Chronologically.
50:28Chronologically.
50:3042 years old from Spurs of Asia.
50:35Oh, yeah.
50:38So one of the younger coaches in the NBA.
50:40Right.
50:41Feel like you're in the president, man.
50:43Where is I?
50:43And Brunson off the catch.
50:47Back rim the three as we approach the final minute of the first half.
50:51It's a good one for the Knicks.
50:53This is the way they wanted to come out in devastating fashion.
50:58And even with that missed three, they're eight out of six.
51:00We'll see you next time.
