Peterlee Town Council will increase local taxes by almost ten percent after Durham County Council withdraws a one million pound grant.

00:06cut. Durham County Councils proposed ending a £1 million grant it gives to town and parish councils,
00:12leaving Peter Lee with a shortfall of more than £190,000. Mayor Rob Moats said the decision was
00:21imposed at very short notice, limiting planning time. Barn Day households will pay £26.99 more
00:28per year. The council has already made savings including removing vacant posts and reducing
00:34budgets for events, ground maintenance and publicity. Durham County Council says it considered
00:40all options to manage its budget deficit.
