Colosseum's 'Commodus Passage' becomes accessible thanks to EU funds

The passage, constructed somewhere between 90 AD and 98 AD, allowed emperor’s to get to their seats without having to use the main entrances, the vomitoria, through which the masses would spew forth into the Colosseum.

00:00It's one of the latest additions to the Colosseum archaeological park in Rome.
00:05Thanks to EU post-pandemic recovery funds, it has recently been made accessible to the public.
00:11The so-called Passaggio di Comodo, an underground corridor,
00:15once linked the area reserved for emperors inside the Colosseum to the outside of the arena.
00:20EU funding proved crucial in completing the restoration
00:23and making the site accessible, including for visitors with reduced mobility.

01:06this secret passage once offered the emperor privacy and discretion.
01:11A complex restoration carried out in an underground environment
01:14that brought back to life precious artifacts.
01:17And where the original vaults are missing,
01:19a special lightning system has been used instead.
01:22But the passage doesn't end here.
