00:00The last 25 years, the aid, particularly for health, has done fantastic things,
00:06cutting childhood deaths down from over 10 million to under 5 million.
00:11Sadly, this year, for the first time, those childhood deaths will go up
00:17after having gone down a record amount.
00:20So, because the aid was well spent, you know, when it is withdrawn,
00:26we're seeing several hundred thousand additional deaths this year,
00:30primarily in the poorest countries in Africa.
00:34I'm very excited that I'm lucky enough, through my work at Microsoft,
00:39to have a fortune that can be given back to the world
00:44to try to have the most impact for those in need.
00:48So we built a team at the Gates Foundation to learn about nutrition and diseases
00:53and partnering with others, with governments and other philanthropists.
00:59We think we can achieve some unbelievable things in this next 20 years,
01:04you know, that we can solve malnutrition, finish off polio, even finish off malaria,
01:11and once again, cut all of the childhood deaths in half.
01:18And so we have a sense of urgency.
01:21We know that, you know, once we're done, there'll still be plenty of rich people,
01:26but the need is now, and we're just excited to find partners who believe in this cause.
