U.S. President Donald Trump spoke at the World Economic Forum, starting with a light-hearted remark praising French President Emmanuel Macron’s sunglasses. He then sharply criticized Macron on U.S. prescription drug policies, saying, “Emmanuel, you have been taking advantage of the United States for 30 years.”

Watch the full clip from WEF 2026 to see Trump’s mix of humor and pointed critique as he addresses global leaders and U.S. interests.

00:0047, if I don't like it, I'm going to take the 47 off.
00:03And I wonder why they called it 47, what to think about that.
00:07But if I don't like it, I'm going to take that 47 off.
00:10But it's supposed to be the stage 6, it's supposed to be the first stage 6 plane,
00:15undetectable, like our B-2 bombers were undetectable.
00:18They flew right over Iran, they were undetectable.
00:22And they did their job and they got the hell out of there.
00:25So we want a piece of ice for world protection.
00:30And they won't give it.
00:31We've never asked for anything else.
00:33And we could have kept that piece of land and we didn't.
00:39So they have a choice.
00:41You can say yes and we will be very appreciative.
00:45Or you can say no and we will remember.
00:51A strong and secure America means a strong NATO.
00:55And that's one reason why I'm working every day to ensure our military is very powerful.
01:02Our borders are very strong.
01:04And above all, our economy is strong because national security requires economic security
01:09and economic prosperity.
01:11And we have the greatest that we've ever had.
01:13Biden and his allies destroyed our economy and gave us perhaps the worst inflation in American history.
01:21They say 48 years.
01:22I say forever.
01:24But I think 48 years is the equivalent to forever.
01:28Whether it's 48 years or ever, it's terrible.
01:33While costing the typical family $33,000, what they did to this country should never, ever be forgotten.
01:43It's early.
01:44But he has to be rated as the worst president we've ever had by far.
01:49The auto pen did many of the, much of the damage.
01:54The auto pen, he was the auto pen president.
01:57Because I don't believe a sane president would have ever signed the kind of things that he signed.
02:02But now grocery prices, energy prices, airfares, mortgage rates, rent, and car payments are all coming down.
02:09And they're coming down fast.
02:10We inherited a mess.
02:13But we've done a hell of a job in 12 months.
02:17Under my most favored nation policy for drug prices, the cost of prescription drugs is coming down by up to 90 percent,
02:26depending on the way you calculate.
02:27You could also say 5, 6, 7, 800 percent.
02:30There are two ways of figuring that.
02:32But we have a favored nation's policy that every president wanted, no president was able to get.
02:40I got it.
02:41And other nations approved it.
02:43And they had to use tariffs in order to get it because they said no way.
02:47In other words, a pill that costs 10 percent in London costs $130.
02:52I think it costs $10 in London, costs $130 in New York or in Los Angeles.
03:03And I'd say, boy, that's bad.
03:05Friends of mine would say, you know, we go to London, you can buy this stuff for nothing.
03:09We go all over the world, we can buy it for nothing.
03:11Because basically America was subsidizing every nation in the world because presidents allowed them to get away with it.
03:19It became very tough.
03:20So when I called up Emmanuel Macron, I watched him yesterday with those beautiful sunglasses.
03:28What the hell happened?
03:29But I watched him sort of be tough.
03:39But he was at $10 for a pill.
03:43And I said, Emmanuel, and I have all the big pharmaceutical companies are in total agreement.
03:49It wasn't easy, by the way.
03:50They're tough, smart.
03:52They've been getting away with the scam for a long time.
03:55But they gave it up.
03:57But they said, you'll never get the countries to approve it.
03:59I said, why is that?
04:00Because they won't.
04:01They always said, we're not paying any more.
04:03Get the rest for the United States.
04:05So over the years, they stayed the same.
04:06We just went up, up, up.
04:08And I mean, we would pay 13, 14, 15 times more than certain countries would.
04:13So I said, no, they'll approve it 100%.
04:16Sir, you'll never get them to approve it.
04:18I said, I guarantee you.
04:18But I actually started with Emmanuel, who probably is in the room, too.
04:22And I like him.
04:23I actually like him.
04:24Hard to believe, isn't it?
04:25And I said, Emmanuel, you're going to have to lift the price of that pill to $20, maybe $30.
04:35Think of that.
04:35That means it's a doubling.
04:37A doubling of prescription drugs.
04:42Might be a tripling.
04:43Might be a quadrupling.
04:45It's not easy.
04:46No, no, no, Donald.
04:47I will not do that.
04:49I said, yes, you will 100%.
04:51He said, no, no, no.
04:54You're asking me to double.
04:56I said, Emmanuel, you've been taking advantage of the United States for 30 years with prescription drugs.
05:03You really should do it.
05:05And you will do it.
05:06I have no doubt.
05:07In fact, I am 100% sure you're going to do it.
05:09No, no, no.
05:10I will not do it.
05:11Because, yes, in all fairness, he has to double or triple.
05:15Because the world being a bigger place than the United States, it's not that you meet in the middle.
05:19You just have to go up some.
05:21And we come down a lot.
05:23They go up a little.
05:23We come down a lot.
05:25So we're at $130.
05:27They're at $10.
05:28So they may have to go to $20 or $30.
05:31No more than that.
05:33I said, Emmanuel, you're going to be doubling or tripling?
05:35No, no, no.
05:37I said, here's the story, Emmanuel.
05:38The answer is you're going to do it.
05:40You're going to do it fast.
05:42And if you don't, I'm putting a 25% tariff on everything that you sell into the United States
05:47and a 100% tariff on your wines and champagnes.
05:51And that's about 10 times more than what I'm requesting.
05:55And you're going to do it.
05:56I don't want to go public with it.
05:58But you may make me do that.
05:59No, no, Donald.
06:00I will do it.
06:02I will do it.
06:04It took me, on average, three minutes, a country, saying the same thing.
06:11You will do it.
06:11They all said, no, no, no.
06:13I will not do it.
06:14You're asking me to double the cost of prescription.
06:17I said, that's right, because you've been screwing us for 30 years.
06:23And they said, we will not do it.
06:27I said, that's all right.
06:29On Monday morning, we're putting a 25, 30, 50.
06:33I gave different numbers for different countries.
06:38This is also national security we're talking about.
06:41Not fair.
06:42We're not going to subsidize the whole world.
06:45And every one of those countries have agreed to do it.
06:48So one of the biggest things that I've done is the fact that we have now most favored nations.
06:53We will pay whatever the lowest price is in the entire world.
06:58So our drug prices are going to be coming down by staggering 90%.
07:03Again, you could say 1,000%, 2,000%.
07:07Depends on the way you want to figure it.
07:09But we'll go with the way the fake news likes it better, because it sounds, can you imagine
07:13a 90% reduction sounds much worse?
07:15But drug prices are going to be coming down tremendously in all the nations, and I appreciate
07:21them doing it.
07:22But they did it.
07:23In all fairness, without tariffs, I wouldn't have been able to get it done.
07:27After declining $3,000 under Biden, real incomes are up in the United States by $2,000, $3,000,
07:37and even $5,000 and more.
07:41Homeownership has always been a symbol of health and vigor.
07:44of American society, but that goal fell out of reach for millions and millions of people
07:51in the Biden era because interest rates went up so high.
07:54Today, I'm taking action to bring back this bedrock of the American dream.
07:59In recent years, Wall Street giants and institutional investment firms, many of you are here, many
08:04of you are good friends of mine, many of you are supporters.
08:06I'm sorry to do this to you.
08:08I'm so sorry.
08:09But you've driven up housing prices by purchasing hundreds of thousands of single-family homes,
08:14and it's been a great investment for them.
08:17Often, as much as 10% of houses on the market.
