00:00This was the horrible state of the public washroom at Janakpuri West Station, an interchange
00:04between blue and magenta line.
00:06India has come a long way with initiatives like Swaj Bharat Mission, but the real question
00:11is, how clean are toilets actually?
00:14I live almost two hours away from office and as you know, especially during winters, the
00:18capacity to hold tea is really, really low.
00:21So when using a public washroom, the most stressful moment is opening that door and wondering
00:27if it's really clean or are you about to walk into a stinky mess?
00:30And I still can't forget the smell.
00:33The floor was wet, one of the basins had good cast stains and the bin was filled with sanitary
00:37waste.
00:38And the toilets?
00:39Well, let's just say, they were so clogged we had to blur this footage.
00:43After seeing the condition at Janakpuri West Station, I decided to visit most of the interchange
00:48stations and just like Janakpuri, Rajori Garden and Kirti Naga stations had similar issues.
00:54The garbage bins were probably not emptied since the previous day, even though I visited
00:58in the morning.
00:59First off, the public is being charged to use these washrooms, so the expectation is pretty
01:03simple, basic cleanliness, right?
01:05And another major issue is the lack of sanitary napkin vending machine.
01:08I only found a functional one at the Rajeev Chalk Station.
01:11I don't even want to imagine getting your periods only to find out that there are no pads available
01:16or clean washrooms to use.
01:17Pads, soaps, working faucets are literally basic necessities.
01:21And if I speak from a woman's perspective, we are usually the first ones to avoid using
01:25such unclean washrooms.
01:26And not only holding pee is harmful to health, it also makes long commutes much more uncomfortable
01:31for us.
01:32Rajeev Chalk and Mundi House washrooms were surprisingly cleaner, with active staff all over the area.
01:37And if I talk about Noida 6-16 and 18 stations, which aren't interchange stations, the washrooms
01:42had a horrible stench.
01:44And when it comes to cleanliness, we can't only blame the staff, the public also has a role
01:49way.
01:50Basic civic scents like not littering and flushing properly goes a long way in keeping public
01:54washrooms usable.
01:55So, what's your experience with public washrooms?
01:58Comment below.
