00:00And now President Donald Trump has also upped the ante over Greenland.
00:07He posted an AI-generated image suggesting a dramatic expansion of US territory.
00:13Trump posted images on his Truth Social platform that depict Canada, Greenland and Venezuela
00:20as part of the United States, including a map behind him in the Oval Office
00:24showing these regions under the American flag.
00:27Now another image shows Trump, Vice President J.D. Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio
00:33planting a US flag in Greenland with a sign reading
00:36Greenland US Territory Established 2026.
00:40Now the posts come amid Trump's renewed push to acquire Greenland
00:44which he describes as vital to US and global security.
00:51We have to have it. They have to have this done.
00:54They can protect it. Denmark, they're wonderful people.
00:57And I know the leaders are very good people, but they don't even go there.
01:03And you know, because a boat went there 500 years ago and then left, that doesn't give you title to property.
01:10So we'll be talking about it with the various people.
01:14We've had, we've had tremendous success and we've, you know, I've done more for NATO than anybody else.
01:21I don't think you'd have NATO right now.
01:23I got them to go 5% and pay as opposed to 2% and not pay.
01:28I've done more than any other American president for NATO by far.
01:32And we'll see how that goes.
01:34But Greenland is very important.
01:37And once again, let's go back to Pranay Upadia, who's the editor of India Today Global.
01:44Pranay, you know, sometimes it's, it feels like it's futile discussing things Trump does, especially on truth social.
01:53But you know, a picture like that sends out a message to multiple countries, to Canada, to Greenland, to the European nations, to Venezuela.
02:01How, what are the reactions that are coming to this?
02:05You know, Anjali, as they say that there is a method in every madness.
02:08So even if some people are trying to discard it as a madness, there is a method in it.
02:12There is a, there is a pattern in it.
02:14And if you see, President Donald Trump has consistently asked for, for acquiring the territory of Greenland by any method, by any mean.
02:21And look, in, in last, you know, last 24 hours, he has, he has sent out the barrage of social media posts, including these AI generated images,
02:30or be it his text messages.
02:33What he is suggesting, he is suggesting that this is a non-negotiable for the United States.
02:37And these are all suggested things.
02:39And you know, you have noticed it, that not only the territory of Greenland is marked with the, under the US flag, but also the territory of Canada.
02:47You will recall that, you know, President Donald Trump initially proposed the idea that Canada should, should merge with the United States and become the, the 51st state of, of United States.
02:56And, you know, President Donald Trump is trying to sell this idea of acquisition of, of Greenland in the name of the, the Western Hemisphere security for the national security of the United States.
03:05And now, as we were discussing, that this policy of President Donald Trump is pushing the transatlantic partnership to another, you know, extreme level of strain.
03:13And in fact, this can actually bring, you know, fractures and fissures in the NATO partnership, which, you know, President Donald Trump has a very different idea.
03:22And all these, these things are happening at a time when President Donald Trump is trying to write his own rules for the, for the game.
03:28And, you know, beat his, his new, uh, Gaza peace board, which is now being considered as, as a pretext for a, for maybe a new UN.
03:35Because the kind of architecture he is trying to build, will be a completely US led thing, which will be very, you know, a money oriented thing.
03:44And, uh, he will be, uh, he will be envisaging a future where only US will be driving and rest will all, uh, will all be following rather than making it an all inclusive architecture.
03:55Right. And one is surprised that how come Mexico is left behind in that little patch of land that's not been flagged as American.
04:02But, uh, clearly what you're trying to say here, what one can understand is then US is trying to build this new global order where US is at the pinnacle.
04:12And everything else has to either, uh, serve their benefit or they push tariffs because even when we saw that, uh, Macron, uh, uh, you know, he tried to talk about negotiations and he has refused to be part of the board.
04:27We have pushback from Trump. Uh, he is clearly stating that he won't be there and it doesn't matter.
04:34Anjali, if you see the negotiating pattern of President Donald Trump, he always start a negotiation with an extreme, uh, you know, end.
04:40And, uh, he has been a great disruptor, but he also claims to be a good negotiator.
04:45So, you know, we have to see that he has asked for, for maximum, he has asked for extreme.
04:49And now he has pushed these parties to come to negotiating table and at least offer him something so that he can sell to, to his voters.
04:56Uh, and, uh, and that too at a time when US is, uh, you know, approaching and inching towards a midterm poll and which in, in all likelihood, you know, there could be a political change in, uh, in United States if, uh, the, the US electorates decide so.
05:10So, uh, definitely President Donald Trump is trying to push and hard sell this, this idea, uh, of acquisition of, uh, of Greenland by any mean.
05:18And he is pushing the, the European nations in the name of the security architecture, in the name of ensuring the, uh, the, the NATO, uh, partnership.
05:27Or, in fact, asking them to concede and yield something at least in, uh, uh, if they are not, uh, ready to yield or if they are not ready to give Greenland, then there, there has to be some territorial concessions.
05:38So, even if the idea of a greater control of United States on Greenland, it's, it is going to be his victory.
05:44Because all he wants is a, is a greater territory.
05:47All he wants is a greater influence and a greater, uh, greater, uh, you know, control over the territory and the narrative and the policy, uh, architecture of the, of the Western Hemisphere.
05:56Right, absolutely.
05:57Absolutely.
