00:00You toured the world extensively,
00:03but what do you remember most about the experiences in Italy
00:06with the Italian audience?
00:08I saw you playing, I don't remember if it was like three or two years ago,
00:14opening the Sleepnotta show in Italy.
00:16I was there, I was like, oh my God, what am I seeing?
00:19Because you were amazing.
00:22So I always wonder, do you have any stories to share about Italian people?
00:28Yes, I do. I do.
00:30It's one of my favorite stories and probably the biggest accomplishment as a musician.
00:39As we won, we won Italian listeners.
00:47We had to win them, you know.
00:50I remember, I still have some pictures of us playing Italian shows
00:57and there were hardly any people in the room.
01:03Our first shows were, they suck.
01:06They sucked in Italy.
01:09You know, no one wanted to come to our shows.
01:11I remember we played one show during Easter or something.
01:16So people really, they preferred to go to church or celebration
01:20instead of our show.
01:22and those who were at our show, they were completely dead.
01:27Like, dead silence.
01:31Well, I'm still grateful they came
01:34and probably they still come to our shows,
01:38but now they actually know who we are.
01:40Little by little, Italian shows became one of the greatest.
01:47One of the greatest.
01:48The audience is like day and night
01:51that comparing to what we were dealing with
01:55when we were younger, in the beginning,
01:58when they were like two, I don't know, 15 people in the crowd.
02:03The crowd, if you can call a crowd of 15 people.
02:07now they are crazy.
02:10I love, I love it.
02:11And I feel, yes, we did it.
02:14And I love Italian people, Italian audience even more for that.
02:20That we grab them and then we hold them
02:23and they don't want to live.
02:25Yes, because in Italy, metal is not a mainstream genre,
02:29but has a very loyal following.
02:33So people are really loyal to the bands
02:37and also to the artists.
02:40Yeah.
02:40And that's the thing,
02:42that they were really a difficult fish to catch, you know.
02:48We were thinking, oh no,
02:51that means that we never,
02:53you know, when there are people,
02:55there are 15 people in front of you
02:56and they are completely,
02:58they don't understand what's going on.
03:00You feel like, oh, I just want to disappear.
03:03Yeah.
03:04You feel cringe, you feel shame.
03:08But now you have a full audience.
03:11Yeah, now we have a full audience.
03:13Now we have thousands of people coming to our show.
03:15So that's great.
03:17Thank you.
03:18I must thank them.
03:21And if you could destroy one stereotype
03:25that still plagues metal,
03:27since in Italy it's not,
03:29as I said, a mainstream genre.
03:33Is there a stereotype about metal
03:35that you would destroy?
03:39Oh, yes, I would.
03:41And I don't think a lot of people will like it.
03:46But, you know,
03:49I had an interview once
03:53and they played me songs,
03:57played songs for me,
03:58and I had to guess.
03:59So all of the songs were from 80s and 70s,
04:03metal bands that I've never heard of.
04:06and the interview,
04:08I guess it failed
04:09because I couldn't answer any,
04:12like there were like 10 tracks
04:14that I had to guess.
04:15And I think I never guessed any.
04:19But if they played some songs,
04:22some music from the late 90s,
04:25I mean, some new metal,
04:27you know,
04:27I think it's still metal.
04:29Come on.
04:29I don't like gatekeeping.
04:31I think we all diversify the genre.
04:40And so for me,
04:41I would like to destroy the stereotype
04:44that if you play metal,
04:46you are like this,
04:48you're like heavy metal.
04:51I'm not like this.
04:52I have a different vibe of,
04:57it's like not ethereal,
04:59but it's something futuristic.
05:00which future is metal too,
05:02man,
05:03like look at it.
05:05It's unpredictable,
05:08you know,
05:09it's harsh,
05:10harsh reality
05:11that you cannot even see
05:14because it's future,
05:15you know,
05:15blah, blah, blah.
05:15So it's like really brings you chills.
05:19And I think it's pretty metal.
05:22And yeah,
05:23my idea of metal is like cosmos.
05:27I like the secrets of life
05:31and everything,
05:32but not the traditional metal values,
05:36like leather.
05:38For example,
05:39the outfit,
05:40like I don't like leather.
05:41or what is it called?
05:44Like a hand.
05:48Yeah.
05:48Yeah.
05:49Like bracelets
05:49and stuff like that.
05:51Although I like eco leather.
05:56Yeah.
05:56but the style,
06:02the design
06:03is not metal,
06:04you know,
06:04I don't like
06:05like the harness.
06:07Yeah.
06:08Yeah.
06:08I don't like that.
06:09Yeah.
06:09I don't like the vests
06:11with patches.
06:14So I am metal,
06:16but I'm not wearing
06:17the older metal,
06:22how you call it?
06:25Serotyped also,
06:26also serotyped like clothes.
06:29Clothes.
06:29Yeah.
06:29Yeah.
