00:00To be continued...
00:30...eyes on two riders.
00:32Stay around, police!
00:34You're under arrest against sufficient attempted murder.
00:37Evidence gathered.
00:39Get some tape, I need all the alleyways around the ceiling.
00:42Two very big blades down there.
00:44Wow.
00:45And suspects interrogated face to face.
00:49Tell me your own words, what happened?
00:50There'll be no comment whatsoever.
00:52The mail has kicked and stamped.
00:55Antin, do you remember this?
00:57Can detectives decipher the truth from the lies?
01:03We have to build up the most evidence we can
01:05that this person's committed that crime.
01:08Will the evidence stand or fall?
01:11That's the last time we've seen the live.
01:14We've blown his defence out of the water.
01:16Yeah.
01:18Fighting crime has never been more challenging.
01:21Can justice be done?
01:28There's always that question,
01:30what if we don't get the charges?
01:31Okay, emergency.
01:39No, it's just any damage.
01:42It's still emergency.
01:44Hi.
01:44Um, there's somebody who's...
01:46somebody's trying to get into my house.
01:47My kids here.
01:49Bear me one second.
01:50Stay with me.
01:51I'm just going to get them on their way.
01:54Alright, they are travelling to you, okay?
01:56Have you seen him at all?
01:59Can you give me what he's wearing or anything just in case you make it off?
02:03He's doing all grey. How long is the police going to be?
02:05It's just travelling time. They're coming in as an emergency response.
02:09So he's all in grey.
02:11What's your bills?
02:14Is he big? Is he...
02:15It's OK.
02:17He's big bills. OK.
02:21I think he's going to break the door down.
02:23Stay with me, OK?
02:29OK, OK. Stay with me. Stay on the phone.
02:34They are coming. I promise you they are coming, OK?
02:40Just travelling time. Honestly, they'll be with you shortly.
02:45They're coming, I promise.
02:46After receiving reports of a violent attempted break-in,
02:55Gwent Police urgently dispatch officers to the scene.
02:58When they arrive, the attacker has fled before he could get in the property.
03:09She's confirmed that the male hasn't actually entered the address.
03:12He's just used a rock to smash the front pane of the window,
03:14but it's double-blading, so it hasn't actually gone through the scroll door.
03:18Suspect has run off.
03:19The suspect has fled the scene of the break-in
03:27and is believed to be on foot.
03:32Police scour the area, looking for the attacker.
03:36What is the description here?
03:38He's all in grey. He's quite a large bill.
03:41We're out here.
03:42The suspect could be extremely dangerous,
03:45so police are desperate to catch him.
03:47One officer has spotted a man matching his description.
03:54Just stay there.
03:55I'm walking.
03:56Show me your hand.
03:57Show me your hand.
03:58Don't, mate.
03:58Show me your hand.
04:00I don't ask you to do that.
04:01You do?
04:02No, I don't.
04:03What?
04:03I just said, I'm mad, isn't you?
04:05Stay by here.
04:06Show me your hands.
04:07What are you going to do?
04:08Don't touch me.
04:09Just stay there.
04:10Show me your hands.
04:12Don't touch me, mate.
04:12Do you want to order?
04:14I could do it another year, mate.
04:15I won't touch you before.
04:16I'm just behind the...
04:17Get your hands off me, please.
04:18I'm just behind, like, the civics.
04:19I'm just an ass.
04:21Get your f***ing hands off me, fella.
04:22Get your hands off me now.
04:24Just by the church I am.
04:26Get your hands off me.
04:26Right, show me your hands.
04:27Don't touch me.
04:28Show me your hands.
04:29You touch me again.
04:30I will keep touching you.
04:32Show me your hands.
04:33I'm touching my personal body.
04:34Right, either show me your hands or I will spray you.
04:36For what?
04:37One or another.
04:38Show me your hands.
04:39Really?
04:40Show me your hands.
04:41Show me your hands.
04:42One, two, three.
04:44You're going to get me here.
04:45You're going to get me here.
04:47I'm not going to get me here.
04:47You're going to get your hands.
04:48That's my...
04:49Oh, no.
04:50F***ing...
04:51F***ing...
04:52F***ing...

05:05...league...
05:06...league...
05:08...league...
05:08...league...
05:08...league...
05:09...league...
05:09Hello.
05:10I'm in Olcombran by the shop.
05:12This is one of your gentlemen at the police copper.
05:15He's been beaten by a member of the public.
05:18Where's his streetcar part?
05:20At the back.
05:21Okay.
05:21Is the offender still there?
05:23No, he's run off.
05:25He's beaten him up and run off.
05:28With the attacked officer's condition unknown,
05:31multiple units rushed to the scene.
05:35Well, Tim, any available units on his channel?
05:37I'm going to go to the local area to call me.
05:40I thought you were okay, Mr. Hill?
05:41Yeah, no worries.
05:44I'm just going to do a command right now.
05:49They begin the urgent hunt for the suspect.
05:52He's actually gone in.
05:57While other teams rush to help the assaulted officer.
06:00Showing right on the junction of Commercial Street
06:03and Wesley Street on my raffin.
06:05Mate, it might be down there.
06:08Two, one, it's just on the corner by the pub.
06:10We're just in the car, aren't we?
06:11We're just in the car.
06:13We're just in the car.
06:13We're just in the car.
06:16The assaulted officer has not responded to radio contact.
06:20Where's it?
06:50After an attempted break-in at a house in South East Wales, whilst being arrested, the
07:07suspect brutally assaulted a police officer in a sustained attack.
07:12Fucker! Fuck you, motherfucker!
07:14The attacker fled the scene, and an urgent manhunt is underway.
07:23Any available in the college channel, they can lead to a local area to coordinate efforts
07:28to locate this male.
07:30Yeah, no worries, they're just looked to a command right now.
07:34To one, it's just on the corner by the pub, we're just in the car park now.
07:37While police desperately try to locate the suspect, other officers rush to help their injured
07:44colleague.
07:49Where's it?
07:50He's seen Nathan that well, has sustained numerous blows to the head and body.
08:16While colleagues assist the injured officer, units from across the force are now hunting
08:29for the dangerous suspect.
08:38He's all in green, quite a large fill, round here.
08:44What direction?
08:49Sit down, I'll get in there, Mario.
08:53Mario.
08:54sit down i'll get in there mario at the scene colleagues continue to help pc atwell

09:25yeah my head is pounding it's all right did he hit you with anything naif
09:39i'm with the officer now he's got quite a nasty laceration to his left eyebrow
09:44um it's beating all down his face and um his nose i'm not sure if his nose is broken at the moment
09:49and he's got a black right eye we're just heading to the hospital now
09:54at the back of saint gabriel's church is hiding he's running at the back of
09:57saint gabriel's church apparently he's hiding there we're just taking this to um

10:14the suspect is believed to be hiding
10:21show me your hands turn around show me your hands
10:24turn around show me your hands do it now show me your hands please do a taser turn around

10:46right you're under arrest for assault emergency work all right
10:49do you have to say anything behind your face you don't mention one question
10:54anything you do say make it evidence
10:55you don't mention one of your hands
10:58fucking bullshit mate i don't give a fuck
11:00and come on
11:01and
11:02give me this
11:09stop it
11:11get the floor
11:11get the floor
11:13put yourself on
11:18just start mate
11:20anyone got a speck guard
11:21I don't give a fuck, but I'll bash you all up, you know it.
11:51It takes seven officers to subdue the violent individual.
12:21I mean, well done to everybody though, because that's a pretty good effort, fair play.
12:44The suspect was taken into custody and police had just 24 hours to charge or release him.
12:56Due to the severity of the attack, the case was immediately passed to CID.
13:34It was taken back in 2003, so he would have been a juvenile then.
13:38Yeah, so obviously with his bad character, he's a dangerous individual, isn't he?
13:42Yeah.
13:44Richard Nodwell is a significant threat to the public.
13:47He is a violent individual, so we have to safeguard the public from further violence from him.
13:53With Nodwell's history of violence, it was vital that detectives kept him off the streets.
14:04To do this, they needed to secure a charge in remand, which would keep him in custody.
14:10But the clock was ticking.
14:13This is Nathan Atwell's body-worn.
14:16I'm walking.
14:17Show me your hand.
14:18Show me your hand.
14:19Show me.
14:20Reviewing the body-worn footage was key to understanding the series of events leading up to and during the attack.
14:26Stay by here.
14:27So this is where Nathan stopped in there because he's matching the description.
14:31Don't touch me.
14:32Show me.
14:33Just stay there.
14:34Show me.
14:35Show me your hands.
14:36Don't touch me, mate.
14:37Still being, still being, yeah, still being quite aggressive, yeah.
14:39Don't touch me for.
14:41It is important to make sure that as much evidence is gathered in the early stages to ensure there's no further avenues for that individual to say that he wasn't or she wasn't responsible for that crime.
14:53Don't touch me for.
14:54Get your hands off me, please.
14:56I'm just behind the civics.
14:57You can see from the start that he eats.
14:58He's really agitated, isn't he?
15:00Get your hands off me now.
15:01Just by your hands.
15:02He looks really angry and aggressive.
15:04Right, show me your hands.
15:05Don't touch me.
15:06Show me your hands.
15:07Don't touch me.
15:08He's not showing his hands so Nathan doesn't know what's got behind his back.
15:11He's not listening to Nathan's instructions.
15:14He's back and forth and he's getting more and more.
15:17More agitated, isn't he?
15:18Show me your hands.
15:19Shut up.
15:20Get off me.
15:21Get off me.
15:22You've just got a flurry of punches then until he hits him.
15:26Until he hits the ground.
15:27To the ground very quickly.
15:28Yeah.
15:29And then just carries on with his punches.
15:31And then the two kicks there then.
15:33Yeah.
15:34And then it turns off anyway and that's towards the road then, isn't it?
15:36Yeah.
15:37looking at the body-worn footage it is shocking it's upsetting as well
15:43just the sound of it the nature of the attack the extreme brutality of it
15:49i've been in the police 26 years and i've never seen such an assault on a police officer before
15:54this instance is very very serious given that in grand police it's so rare for this to happen
15:59of a police officer being severely assaulted in the line of their duty it was quite shocking not
16:04only for nathan's colleagues but obviously for members of the public as well show me hands show
16:09me hands show me hands show me hands so the officer's going up now this is where they've got him on stop
16:15now stop it still aggressive as well isn't it really aggressive really aggressive so this is being
16:23restrained now really really difficult for the officer it's really difficult because at least
16:28two of them have been further assaulted you know one's been spat on and one's been bitten yeah
16:31but he can breathe through it that's what it's designed for
16:41which is a big man he's created quite a strong individual as well given when we've looked at
16:48the how many officers it took to restrain him when he was you know resisting arrest and shouting abuse
16:53as officers so you see that and you see sometimes the risks that officers have got to take when they
16:59obviously go out and try and arrest individuals something throughout the day or the evening has
17:06riled in something that's triggered in in order to build a watertight case for the cps detectives
17:16decided to trace the suspects movements we set out a CCTV strategy around the area to try and trace
17:23Richard Nodwell's routes prior to the assault on Nathan at well response officers were sent on a cctv trawl in
17:35and around the local area cctv can be really important to us because it can show us suspects movements and what
17:45their demeanour is like and what they are actually doing before this incident took place
17:50officers visited the scene of the attack
17:56so the pub up there cctv on it got the flats around here that would have been a good place
18:05to check as well the suspects made his way up this alleyway by here onto the main roads yeah
18:15and then ultimately he's gone up here behind the church it's not a lot of cctv or anything here is
18:23there there's no signs saying anything it's nothing that's covering this area there were no cctv
18:31cameras covering the location of the attack
18:35there's another pub there it does have cctv yeah you can see a camera up there
18:39yeah
18:40officers checked a pub near the scene
18:42oh well they got a sign saying there's cctv yeah even with the scaffolding yeah
18:49there's a good coverage of it there's plenty of cameras there isn't there
18:56the cctv was retrieved from the pub and detectives reviewed it yeah there he is walking in
19:13it provided them with a positive sighting of nodwell
19:16and on the second clip then we can see him sitting down he's he's with this guy
19:26because this guy is obviously sitting there and we're assuming he's with this girl because this
19:29girl is actually talking to them and they're all chatting she seems very unsteady on her feet
19:35as well and intoxicated and then he walks out she walks out both of them you can see quite
19:42they look intoxicated and then outside something has gone on she's shouting
19:55she's shouting across towards him then by here yeah she'll go out into the middle of the road now and
20:01stop the traffic
20:09she's screaming shouting look she's really really annoyed yeah and then he follows her across he's
20:17stumbling there they're obviously connected in some way yeah and there's something going on here that
20:25is out of sight of the camera yeah but you can just see their legs for their look
20:32according to this cctv the clock on here is 14 18 when he comes out of the pub yeah
20:40the call comes into us then at 15 35 yeah and that's the damage to the window and then yes it's
20:4715 49 that nathan comes across him yeah so something's happened here even though it's staggering
20:56this doesn't show anything um aggressive about him or anything does it no it just paints a picture
21:01of where he's been beforehand and i felt he has been drinking yeah yeah but clearly there's something
21:07happening there that we can't see yeah the cctv was a dead end for us it does show the suspect in a pub
21:18it does show him intoxicated it does show that there is something going on between him and a female
21:24but the aggression is from the female and it's not from him but it still didn't give us any idea as
21:30to why he would have assaulted nathan in the way he has police cannot interview suspects when they are
21:39under the influence of alcohol or drugs with the custody clock ticking detectives faced an anxious
21:46wait for nodwell to sober up emergency i think he's going to break the door down after an attempted
22:03break-in at a property in southeast wales a gwent police officer was brutally assaulted whilst trying
22:09to arrest the suspect it took a team of officers to subdue the violent individual and bring him into
22:24custody he's got 22 offenses and he's got markers for violence as well right yeah we got offenses
22:34started back in 2003 so when you would have been a juvenile he's a dangerous individual he's a violent
22:41individual police were desperate to prevent richard nodwell from getting back on the streets but time
22:47was running out on the custody clock and they couldn't interview him until he sobered up
22:52in order to secure the maximum possible charge for the assault detectives examined the extent of pc atwell's injuries
23:14so you can see there he's got a cut to his head which he had eight stitches to that yeah
23:20um and then we go on to his face so that's the left side of his face so there we've got um
23:28the break to the left eye socket and we've got the break to the left cheekbone yeah and his left eye
23:36was stitched which i think is by there and that's a front view yeah so his right eye that's just black
23:44isn't it quite significant isn't it yeah it's a criteria but grievous body harm yeah nasty injuries
23:54to be looking at aren't they due to the severity of the attack detectives aimed for a charge of grievous
24:01bodily harm which can result in a sentence of up to life imprisonment the level of injuries that was
24:09caused nathan was significant and physically and mentally that is obviously going to affect him
24:17the assault is something that he's always going to have to cope with
24:19i don't think it's such an assault you would ever really get over pc atwell's attack sent shock waves
24:28across the force every serious assault of a police officer is immediately referred to the chief constable
24:42nathan was subjected to an absolutely unprovoked attack
24:49i was taken aback by the significant physical injuries that he had policing is a job that comes
24:56with some risk and i think you know we what we've seen here is true evidence of that you know our
25:01officers go to calls every single day of the year and deal with individuals who are dangerous to the
25:08public they run towards that danger as opposed to away from it
25:16now unfortunately attacks have been incredibly on the increase over recent times there's been a 21
25:22increase of assaults on emergency service workers over the last 12 months in fact that's now up to 52
25:30assaults a month my concern is that incidents like this unfortunately you know with assaults being on
25:37the rise against emergency workers might actually affect people's thought processes about applying the police
25:42force now if that happens that's a real problem because if we haven't got those people volunteering
25:50from their communities to protect their communities then individuals like nodwell might not well be
25:57restrained and might be out at liberty to conduct violent acts like this it's absolutely essential for
26:03for us to get violent offenders like nodwell off the streets they are a real risk to the wider community
26:11but also a real risk to emergency service workers because they have no regard for the law
26:16um and the way that he dealt with um with with nathan just shows the type of individual he is
26:32to keep nodwell off the streets detectives not only had to secure a charge
26:38but also convinced the cps that he was too dangerous to be released on bail whilst awaiting trial
26:44it's really important that um it's really important that um we get as much as we can out of the
26:50investigation and the interview and we want to make sure that those type of people who will
26:56assault our officers are taken off the streets
27:06nodwell finally sobered up and was fit for interview
27:10but how did he react when confronted with the evidence against him the mission when officers
27:17detectives go into the interviews is to find out the truth they're going to establish the truth to find
27:21out what has happened why it has happened and if there's anything to mitigate what has happened
27:27we're an interviewer at a strip medic police station the time is 14 30 and you please state your full
27:38name and date of birth which are thomas not not setting you down for an exam thank you very much
27:42just regarding welfare is there any reason why you should not be interviewed at this time
27:46no effect of any drug drug no any medication you need no no the reason for the interview is because
27:51you've been arrested for causing grievous bodily harm with intent to pc 2517 at well and also two
27:57further counts of assaulting emergency workers are you responsible for causing serious injury to the
28:02level of grievous body harm i'm just going to say i'm going to be making no comment whatsoever okay
28:10so are you responsible for causing injuries to the level of gbh grievous body harm with intent to pc
28:152517 at well on the train to december 2024. so tell me what happened your vision of events from the moment
28:26you woke up to the point of your arrest tell me in your own words what happened
28:32did you go to the halfway pub
28:37how long were you there for
28:41is there anyone else that happened in the pub while you were there
28:45what time did you leave the brother
28:52where did you go after you left
28:56it can be very frustrating when a suspect doesn't speak
29:00it's the suspect's right to not say anything in interview
29:03it could be that he'd sobered up a bit and he realized the consequences of his actions
29:08not well refused to answer the initial questions but does he break his silence when challenged with
29:18the evidence this is the body-worn exhibit n801 of pc2517 um
29:29the body-worn footage
29:47not well closes his eyes refusing to watch
29:50what exactly was he also doing towards him
29:59did you comply with his commands
30:08how many times did you punch him
30:10what was your intention when you punched him to the face
30:17when the officer was on the floor did you continue punching him
30:25so can you tell me why you continued to punch
30:27what was your intention to do serious harm to the officer
30:40for over five minutes nodwell's eyes remained closed
30:44when the body-worn footage was played to nod well um he didn't want to look at it
31:04there was a shift in his body language in the way he was and he did close his eyes and not look at it
31:10that could be because he felt guilty for what he'd done could be because he was shocked at what he'd done
31:15or it could be that he just didn't care
31:18he's been taken to hospital and he outlines the injuries he sustained
31:25several broken bones in his nose a fractured eye socket and a fractured cheekbone he's also received
31:30a cut to the back of his head and a cut to his cheek which required eight stitches altogether
31:35that those were injured the photographs taken unseen
31:44did you cause those injuries to the officer
31:51oh just quickly does it how does it make you feel as if you need injuries now
31:58is there anything you'd like to clarify talk we can go back through any part of it
32:02any questions you'd like to clarify and this is your opportunity now is there any like to touch on
32:05again in that case then the time is 14 59 and i will stop the recording with nodwell refusing to
32:15speak throughout the interview and with just hours left on the custody clock police needed to decide on
32:22the next steps he was shown body worn he's shown the pictures didn't look around absolutely zero from
32:31him nothing no lines of inquiries whatsoever didn't give us anyone or anything to go and look at
32:39um so there was nothing further for us to investigate other than what we already have
32:45for richard nodwell not to answer any questions and remain silent during the interview shows just
32:51the type of individual he is that there's no remorse no explanation for his behavior
32:56as time was running out for the detectives they had to submit the case file to the cps
33:06so as far as charges now for nodwell the initial disturbance didn't go anywhere we've got no complaint
33:15we've got the grievous bodily harm for nathan yeah and then we've got assault emergency worker times two
33:20so that's one for the spitting and one for the biting of the officer and all three of those were
33:26captured on body worn it's what we call a red case so we're looking for an immediate decision on the
33:34charges for richard nodwell the evidence that it was sent to the cps it was the body-worn footage
33:41of the assault on nathan the arrest of the suspect
33:51and the body-worn footage of the assaults on the two other officers
34:00there's always that element of the question what if we don't get the charges are we gonna have to
34:05bail that person then to get further evidence and put conditions on
34:08on police had to await a decision will the cps agree with the charges and remand the dangerous
34:16suspect in custody or will not well be let back out on the streets
34:23a gwent police officer was brutally attacked in broad daylight
34:40and a violent suspect arrested and taken into custody
34:44the attack even though staggering this doesn't show anything um aggressive about him or anything
35:00does it no but clearly there's something happening there that we can't see yeah
35:07the suspect richard nodwell did not cooperate so tell me your words what happened
35:13i'm just gonna say i'm gonna be making no comment whatsoever okay that's it yeah anything at all
35:20with no more leads the police took the case to the crown prosecution service
35:25the initial disturbance we've got no complaint we've got a grievous bodily harm for nathan
35:30and then we've got assault emergency worker times two they had to wait for a charging decision
35:36and to find out if they had met the threshold for richard nodwell to be remanded in custody
35:43of the police officer
35:46pc nathan atwell was assaulted whilst working alone
35:51a practice that is now commonplace in forces across england and wales
35:57when attacks like this occur it's critical that police review procedures
36:02dci dc i dave morris met with matthew candy chair of the police federation to discuss the incident
36:12it's just terrible this is really traumatic
36:23with nathan and with the the officers who attended the scene in the instant they've they've all had
36:28trauma referrals put in i know their well-being team visited them on the night in both separate
36:34stations and the following day to see if they needed any other support
36:39the police federation is the the body the only staff association that can represent rank and file
36:45police officers our role is to do most of the negotiating with the senior officer team in in the force
36:52how do we go about out of the force corps about reassuring these officers and their team and stuff
36:57after watching that that coming to work is a is a safe place to be you just want as much mitigation
37:04in place as possible you know whether it's more tasers more firearms officers um and and more double
37:12crewing if if need be yeah but we we appreciate as a federation it isn't simple against a backdrop of
37:19money and um you know forced finances and things um shifts of struggling with with staffing that just
37:28the viability of having double crewed at all times is just it's just not there
37:34there's always going to be some frustration that this could happen again
37:37we know this is a dangerous job we sign up knowing full well the risks
37:44but this still has to be suitable mitigation and if if things like double crewing extra taser officers
37:50more firearms officers more officers in general are the options then they are the things that
37:55are in the force that the government in the uk need to really really stress upon but hopefully
38:01you know assaults of this nature are so rare um that they just don't continue to happen on a level
38:06that means we have to change everything the detective's priority was to keep nodwell off the streets
38:21but what did the crown prosecution service decide
38:26cps come back charged with a grievous bodily harm charged with the two assaults times emergency worker
38:32the officers are really happy with that outcome nathan was happy with it as well as the two officers
38:42who were also assaulted the cps also agreed that richard nodwell was a dangerous individual
38:49and should be remanded in custody whilst awaiting trial it's really important that we get somebody who
38:56is capable of this level of assault whether it be on a police officer or a member of the public to get
39:03them off the streets the team secured the charges but their work wasn't finished they then prepared the
39:12case for trial in this case there was overwhelming evidence for the pretrial hearing and we're hoping that at
39:21that stage he will plead guilty an early guilty plea is the outcome detectives hoped for that'll stop us
39:30having to get a jury involved it'll stop nathan having to go to court because it wouldn't be very
39:35nice for nathan to have to go to court and sit through watching everything that has happened to him
39:52on the day of the incident this is the route i took
39:58pc nathan atwell is back at work and returning to the scene of his assault
40:05came down this street here i then came up oak street here
40:12and as i've just come by here i've seen nodwell
40:16coming down that path here so i have parked my police car here
40:26yeah it's a bit weird um i haven't been back here since and um if yes a bit
40:35like overwhelming to be honest just that you know like knowing that's where it happened
40:41yeah when it first happened i did think about nodwell um and what he had done to me and
40:50and i hated the fact that he made me feel like that and made and done that to me
40:55so this is the way i came as i was just coming by here i could obviously still see nodwell here
41:09and he started saying to me what you effing stopping me for what you effing stopping me for
41:15i've made my way in here nodwell have started making his way down and we've come to
41:21this spot here and that's when the interaction started taking place
41:29i was trying to ask him to show me his hands because he wouldn't show me his hands at all
41:35um and then he started moving towards me so i've just popped my arm out and just said
41:39just stay back from me he's then gone to say like don't touch me um and with that that's where the
41:45that's where the assault started taking place i can remember just getting up on the wall and
41:53and i can remember having my head on the wall like this and there was just blood just dripping down
41:58it just brings it back he didn't have to react the way he did and but he did and and that's why
42:09obviously he is where he is today we only come to work to do a job and protect the public and
42:17sometimes it feels like that's against us i'll stay in the police now till i retire um is something which
42:25i love so i can't imagine me going anywhere else now i would never let that this incident
42:32stop me from doing the job that i love as i said at first it was always playing on my mind and would
42:38i go back in the end i didn't want to give him that satisfaction of me not doing something which i
42:46loved anymore
43:06the suspect has gone to court and he has pleaded guilty which is a good result um because that stops
43:11nathan having to go through a trial and it stops us having to have a jury there as well
43:17richard nodwell is now in custody he doesn't pretend any further harm to members of the public or to
43:22other police officers i'm really proud of all the officers and how hard they actually worked to get
43:28this case through to the cps and in the custody time limit to get a charge in remand on um nodwell and to
43:37have that result for nathan so quickly it's really good to see nathan back in the station it's really
43:45good for his colleagues to see him back in work he's been the victim of a really really significant
43:50assault and he's thriving but also what it shows to his colleagues that he's not going to allow
43:55such a violent assault and beat him and he's going to crack on and do what he enjoys
43:59oh hello you all right are you okay yeah what's your thoughts on sentencing then yeah i was really
44:07happy with the sentencing to be honest um because i was always worried all when we got there would
44:12would he not have a prison sentence and and i just think as we say if you if you do something like that
44:18you've got to kind of suffer the consequences we've come through it he got a good sentence and justice was
44:25that
