West Windsor Township Police bodycam footage (New Jersey) from a motor vehicle crash investigation near Route 1 North and Carnegie Center Boulevard on January 19, 2022. Officers responded to a rear-end collision involving a 2019 Hyundai Elantra and a 2021 Honda Accord. Patrolman Edward McQuade contacted the Elantra driver (identified as Samantha Santos, 27) who stated she had no recollection of the moments before the crash.

During the investigation, officers noted behavior consistent with possible impairment and offered Standardized Field Sobriety Tests (SFSTs).

A K-9 unit arrived and conducted an exterior sniff of the vehicle; the K-9 indicated, and officers proceeded with a vehicle search. Based on observations described by officers, the driver was arrested for driving under the influence (DUI). The vehicle was impounded for a mandatory 12-hour hold under John’s Law (NJ).

At police headquarters, the driver was read the Standard Statement for Motor Vehicle Operators and provided breath samples. The Alcotest result was 0.00% BAC, and officers suspected impairment by another substance. A municipal judge granted a court warrant to obtain blood and urine samples, and the driver was transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital for specimen collection. The driver was later released to a sober adult pending court.
