00:00:00I feel like us being here has caused a lot of trouble.
00:00:13I don't want to go away!
00:00:15I didn't want to go away.
00:00:17Surviving six ofrendas, such luck, she feels guilty.
00:00:22I think I put the idea in her head.
00:00:24Anything's worth fighting for, isn't it?
00:00:26Two young people that just want to be together?
00:00:30For this, we gave them to the girls of our town.
00:00:33It was supposed to be the Alcázar protected us.
00:00:35Roberto took a truck, no matter why.
00:00:37We've got to go after him.
00:00:38So they're together.
00:00:47They split up here.
00:00:49Looks like three went down there.
00:00:51And two that way.
00:00:56Los huecos.

00:03:25I have to do it.
00:03:32I have to do it.
00:03:34I was with her, my father.
00:03:37And we find her.
00:03:40We drive away.
00:03:43But then we hear them come after us.
00:03:46I got that.
00:03:55Oh, no.
00:03:56No!

00:04:10Again?
00:04:12She never bombed here.
00:04:15They lied all along.
00:04:17And cheated.
00:04:19She did?
00:04:20What are you saying?
00:04:22The ribbons.
00:04:24She was never chosen.
00:04:26How could you do that?
00:04:30She says she will tell everyone
00:04:33if he doesn't stop the friend.
00:04:36Calm down.
00:04:38Calm down.
00:04:40You must get him back.
00:04:52Doña Marca will make him healthy again.
00:04:54I don't know that it's safe enough for him to go back
00:04:56knowing what we know.
00:04:57They have new medicine from Mel Alcázar.
00:05:00It can help him.
00:05:01Papa.

00:05:29Look.
00:05:31Maybe it's safer we don't know.
00:05:34If we don't know.
00:05:36We'll say he got jumped on the road or something.
00:05:39And then he'll throw Fede off and he can get better.
00:05:41I mean, that's what matters, right?
00:05:43It could work.
00:05:45All he needs is a good liar.
00:05:47We got one of those.
00:05:49What are we gonna do about Justina?
00:05:51I don't think there's anything we can do about that.
00:05:54Not now.
00:05:54You can't just do nothing.
00:05:56It's like we're taking advantage of it.
00:05:58We're not taking advantage.
00:05:59Especially these two after everything that they've done for us, for me.
00:06:05I'll just go after them myself.
00:06:07You can't go.
00:06:08You stop telling me what I can and can't do.
00:06:12We should be leaving.
00:06:18Where's that convoy go next?
00:06:20Barcelona.
00:06:21Yeah, probably.
00:06:22They go through there before heading south.

00:06:32In the glove box.
00:06:37I'm coming with you.

00:07:40The potion is called queimada.
00:07:43Special brandy remedy the magas know how to brew.
00:07:47Magas?
00:07:48Folk healers.
00:07:50Ancient learning passed down from mothers to daughters.
00:07:55Like, um, like witches.
00:07:59No.
00:08:00Well, yes.
00:08:11Moxos, caruxas, sapos e bruxas,

00:08:26Apartaos del nostro figlio Roberto.
00:08:29If it doesn't fix him, at least it will make him drunk.
00:08:40My mother will do all she can for, Roberto.
00:08:57She has calendula, ecozote, berberis, palodul, I don't know the word in English.
00:09:08All herbs brought to us by Al-Alcazar.
00:09:17It's hard.
00:09:18Here, now, in the village.
00:09:21Those primitivos were a surprise.
00:09:26We paid a dear price.
00:09:31But we get through it.
00:09:33We get through it.
00:09:35With the munitions and supplies that Al-Alcazar gives us.
00:09:38Yes, we paid a price.
00:09:43Sit down.
00:09:48You know, my cousin Raúl's family used to live up in this part of the town.
00:09:53Two houses over.
00:09:56Te llamábamos Tonetti, entonces, ¿te acuerdas?
00:09:58We call him Tonetti, all the time.
00:10:01¿Te acuerdas, o no?
00:10:02Claro que me acuerdo.
00:10:03No, Raúl, he'd show up for dessert almost every night.
00:10:09Like, it was only a coincidence.
00:10:12Ah, just takes on my postre.
00:10:18Maria was the best baker in Solaf.
00:10:21Maria?
00:10:23Roberto's mother.
00:10:28Tonetti was a lucky man.
00:10:30But he knows that.
00:10:32He knows that.
00:10:33So, tell me, what happened out there?
00:10:41When you found Roberto, how did he end up like this?
00:10:45We couldn't say exactly.
00:10:47Seems he was caught by bandoleros.
00:10:50Snuck up on him, left him for dead.
00:10:52By the time we got to him, he was barely conscious.
00:10:56What about the car?
00:10:58Gone.
00:11:00They must have taken it.
00:11:01And you think it was Los Primitivos?
00:11:06Yes.
00:11:08We think.
00:11:12I don't think so.
00:11:14They would have killed him.
00:11:18No sign of El Alcázar?
00:11:20No.
00:11:21No.
00:11:21Well, that's for the best, I suppose.
00:11:28For everyone.
00:11:32Fede.
00:11:33But he'll behave, right?
00:11:41I'll talk to him about it when he's well.
00:11:44But we're going to do better from now.
00:11:47Yes, yes.
00:11:48That would be fine.
00:11:52I went to check on the boat.
00:11:56Okay.
00:11:56If he's going to come into the village at night, we should know, so he can enter safely, okay?
00:12:04That's very kind of you, but I think he's going to spend the night there.
00:12:09On the beach?
00:12:12Yeah.
00:12:13He's very, um, outdoorsy.
00:12:16Yeah, he looks it.
00:12:23Well.
00:12:25Bueno, eh...
00:12:26Cuando Roberto se recupere, hablaremos de qué pasos debemos dar para dejar todo esto atrás.

00:50:36Hello, Gustavo.
00:50:57Valentina, how long?
00:50:59My annual visit.
00:51:01We're going to see Roberto.
00:51:06Open the door.
00:51:13Robert.
00:51:17Amigo.
00:51:21What have you done those animals?
00:51:25Do you think it will recover?
00:51:28The soul of Roberto is trapped between hope and desperation.
00:51:33I need to get more orujo for the quemada.
00:51:48I can help you?
00:51:50Yeah, thanks.
00:51:51I come into Solace so rarely.
00:51:53Too many eyes here.
00:51:54Too many...
00:51:55Wethys.
00:51:56Judges.
00:51:57It's good of you to come and make the trip.
00:51:59And you?
00:52:00What are your plans now?
00:52:01Daryl and I still plan to set sail as soon as we can.
00:52:04I realize I had it wrong about you and him.
00:52:08I was, um, looking for something in the wrong place, maybe.
00:52:11You prefer the local wine.
00:52:12Wine in Galicia.
00:52:13Wine in Galicia.
00:52:14Don't take this the wrong way.
00:52:15But has anyone ever told you you are a horny old lady.
00:52:16You're a horny old lady.
00:52:19I mean...
00:52:20I'm sorry, but it's all right.
00:52:22It's not me.
00:52:23I'm sorry.
00:52:24I'm sorry.
00:52:25I'm sorry.
00:52:26So, it's...
00:52:27I'll do it.
00:52:28I'm sorry.
00:52:30I'm sorry.
00:52:31I'm sorry.
00:52:32I'm sorry.
00:52:33You're sorry.
00:52:34I'm sorry.
00:52:35Don't take this the wrong way.
00:52:39But has anyone ever told you you are a horny old lady?
00:52:44Usually they don't call me a lady.
00:52:50Can we get a ride to the orchard?
00:52:55Claro.
00:53:05Can we get a ride?
00:53:35So, Valentina, has she been bending your ear?
00:53:43She bended a little, I guess.
00:53:46She's, um, how do you say?
00:53:50Nosy.
00:53:51Si.
00:53:52Yeah.
00:53:53Un poquito.
00:53:54Tell me about it.
00:53:55She was asking what my plans are.
00:53:58And you said?
00:53:59Well, I said when Daryl comes back, we're setting sail for America, I guess.
00:54:09What about you?
00:54:11What are your plans?
00:54:13This is home for me.
00:54:16Starting over somewhere else.
00:54:19I tried it once, but it didn't end so well.
00:54:25Barcelona, you mean?
00:54:27Mm-hmm.
00:54:27Well, it's not Barcelona.
00:54:40Ohio, I mean.
00:54:41It's, um, but it's not a bad place either.
00:54:43It's, um, I mean, it's a...
00:54:45It's a place where a person, someone like you, could learn to like.
00:54:52Maybe.
00:54:55What I'm saying is that you could come with us on a boat.
00:54:59We have to get back.
00:55:07They are waiting for us.
00:55:29What do you have, chaval?
00:55:47So.
00:55:48So.
00:55:48So.
00:55:52Can you know how the Justine arrived at the Manos of Roberto?
00:55:55No, he left it for him.
00:55:57No, he left it for him.
00:56:00He left it for him.
00:56:01You're confused, mamá.
00:56:07Well.
00:56:08I'm going to prepare the dinner.
00:56:09Yes, better.
00:56:11And you can't eat chocolate, you know, that later you don't eat me.
00:56:27I'm going to prepare the dinner.
00:56:31Sergi.
00:57:29Claro.
00:57:30Enseguida.
00:57:30Esa parte del barco.
00:57:31Y es de la barco.
00:57:31Yo no, yo no.
00:57:32Me una pausa.
00:57:32Me una pausa.
00:57:35Teneno.
00:57:35Y es de la barco.
00:57:36¿Y es de la barco.
00:57:37Y es de la barco.
00:57:37What the hell are you doing here?
00:57:46You might need a tour guide in Barcelona.
00:57:50The old Gothic neighborhood.
00:57:52That's where the gun boy will be going.
00:57:55I wonder what your town would think if they knew what you were doing.
00:57:57You want to threaten me?
00:57:59You get to save our girl.
00:58:00You get to kill the next king of Spain.
00:58:02No more king.
00:58:03No more ofrenda.
00:58:07They took care of him.
00:58:19Where's that convoy go next?
00:58:21Barcelona, probably.
00:58:23You got a map?
00:58:28Daryl's character has a big change, really mid-season,
00:58:32where he becomes finally fully engaged in the Justina and Roberto story,
00:58:37which Carol has been engaged in earlier.
00:58:39They've been at odds a bit about that.
00:58:41We see it really hit full throttle in episode five in Limbo.
00:58:46This episode was the one that we most consciously and aggressively leaned into the spaghetti western.
00:58:53When he goes looking for Justina, you know, Carol's back in Solace.
00:58:58He's moving on, going through the desert.
00:59:00I think that was primo spaghetti western kind of.
00:59:04Spain helps us a lot.
00:59:05This is where they've done all the western before.
00:59:08We're filming now in Lerogoda.
00:59:11This is the first time that I'm shooting here,
00:59:12and I had no idea that we had such a beautiful desert so close to Madrid.
00:59:17Quiero llamar tu.
00:59:18I was hoping this was going to happen.
00:59:21To ride motorcycles up here in the mountains, it's like a dream.
00:59:23Norman is not only a great rider.
00:59:25He knows the show like nobody else knows the show.
00:59:28He comes to the location, it's like,
00:59:29oh, this is so great, let me use this, let me use that.
00:59:32So it's like having fun, like, two little children having fun together.
00:59:36Back up.
00:59:48Buenas noches, señor.
00:59:51Episode 5 is called Limbo.
00:59:52It is the name of this group of people that live in the desert.
00:59:55They suffer from leprosy.
00:59:57We started researching, like, what the disease looks like
01:00:00and how it manifests itself physically
01:00:03because the idea is that Daryl comes across this group of people
01:00:06and you want them to think it's walkers for a minute
01:00:08and then all of a sudden they start talking.
01:00:10So he comes in, boom, I think he's a zombie, right?
01:00:14Puts his hands up, the hands go down,
01:00:16then the rest of them come in with weapons.
01:00:18So does this go back up again?
01:00:20Oh, interesting.
01:00:21And then you reveal it's a leper colony.
01:00:23They're called Limbo's partially because they're kind of between living and dead
01:00:26because they're not perceived as fully acceptable in human society
01:00:30and they're sometimes sort of treated almost as if they were walkers,
01:00:33but they're not walkers.
01:00:34They're just humans with a disease.
01:00:35Their town, there's a national monument of Belchite,
01:00:38which from the Spanish Civil War is a town that was bombed mercilessly.
01:00:42And it's visually kind of stunning.
01:00:44There are these churches in the town that are just, like, fantastic.
01:00:47Only these, the ceilings are bombed out
01:00:49and they're sort of relics.
01:00:50Still, it retains an enormous amount of beauty.
01:00:53The thing that they most guard preciously is their water.
01:00:56This power is what we have for all of us.
01:01:00They are besieged by a group of people
01:01:02who regularly come in and take the water from them
01:01:04and leave them on the margins.
01:01:06Daryl comes upon this world and knowing his character quite well,
01:01:09this is not something they'll let abide.
01:01:11And then he kicks into full hero mode.
01:01:13Okay, ready and action!
01:01:18We just immediately started to see a confrontation
01:01:20between Daryl and one of these characters.
01:01:23The showdown between me and the bad guy on the bikes,
01:01:27I really liked because it's a very
01:01:28wah, wah, wah moment, you know?
01:01:31And that actor was really fun to work with
01:01:32because he's like, ah!
01:01:35And then I liked the thing that looks like a katana
01:01:37but it folds like a switchblade.
01:01:38It's called a fucker, which is fun to say.
01:01:42But I like that going in and slicing him.
01:01:49Yeah, it was all fun.
01:01:50And I, in the back of my head,
01:01:54had an idea about zombies pulling a train through the desert.
01:01:58I thought, A, that's awesome,
01:02:00and B, I don't know if we can do that.
01:02:02When we were able to finally put it on its feet,
01:02:04it was pretty amazing.
01:02:06I really liked that whole sequence,
01:02:07you know, and the guy playing guitar,
01:02:09singing an old Spanish song on the horse,
01:02:12and they're following him.
01:02:14It was one of the most exciting sequences we've done.
01:02:16We have high falls.
01:02:17We have people being, you know, knocked off by Daryl,
01:02:20all the while surrounded by walkers.
01:02:22I also will say it required an incredible amount of work.
01:02:25We got an actual real old train.
01:02:27We had to find tracks in the desert
01:02:28that we could get it to,
01:02:29that we could get walkers on,
01:02:31that we could safely have actors.
01:02:32Three, two, one, action!
01:02:35Watch your head!
01:02:36So it took a tremendous amount
01:02:39of team effort and preparation
01:02:41to actually get us there.
01:02:43Crazy day, doing crazy action.
01:02:45It was perfect.
01:02:46I love that guy that I end up drowning in the bathtub.
01:02:57He was really fun to work with.
01:02:58I actually kept his bathrobe.
01:03:00It's my bathrobe in Spain.
01:03:01But everyone's like,
01:03:02why don't you throw it away?
01:03:03It's filthy.
01:03:03And I'm like, it's just makeup.
01:03:05It's not really dirt.
01:03:07Yeah, that whole sequence was great.
01:03:10It felt like Outlaw Josie Wales,
01:03:12you know, Mad Max, sort of Western.
01:03:15It was really fun.
01:03:16I think it's everybody's favorite episode.
01:03:20It's just a really lovely parable
01:03:22in the middle of our story
01:03:24that is kind of a Western tale
01:03:26that's kind of truest to the Sergio Leone homage.
01:03:30So it had a lot of things coming together
01:03:32that felt really indigenous to this place.
01:03:35So Limbo reflects that story very specifically.
01:03:40Limbo also is relevant to the Roberto side of it,
01:03:43the Carol side of it.
01:03:44And they're hoping they're going to be able to get him out of it,
01:03:55but they can't.
01:03:56And they're struggling to pull him back to life.
01:03:58Gracias, señor,
01:04:00por cuidar de mi hijo
01:04:01y hacer que se recupere.
01:04:04Por favor, ayuda a Darila a encontrar a Agustina
01:04:07y hacer que la traiga de vuelta a casa.
