The Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Playground in central London is set to reopen this summer with a new "full-scale" wooden ship for children to enjoy.
Transcript
00:00A brand new wooden galleon has been built for the Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial
00:06Playground, designed to inspire imaginative play.
00:09The new galleon was constructed in the village of Frasdorf, Germany, by the same designers
00:14who produced the original Peter Pan-themed galleon for the playground's opening back
00:18in 2000.
00:20Andy Williams, park manager for Kensington Gardens, said the galleon really reaches to
00:24children's imaginations, it lets them set free in a safe space.
00:28He added, the new playground was in the spirit of Princess Diana, we've kept it faithful
00:33to that.
00:34The new structure is partially built out of mountain larchwood from sustainably managed
00:39forests in the Bavarian Alps.
00:41The Royal Parks said the harsh alpine conditions result in extremely slow growth, making the
00:46timber stronger and naturally rot-resistant, negating the need for chemically treated wood.
00:52The new galleon is constructed over three levels and will replace the existing pirate ship.
00:57It will have wheelchair accessible spaces and includes an additional crow's nest and a
01:01double storey stern with a ship's wheel and a telescope.
01:04The attraction will also feature a new treehouse, redesigned water play area and a new space
01:09for those aged under three.
01:12Royal Parks said in order to improve accessibility and inclusivity, some of the paths in the playground
01:18will be resurfaced and a new accessible path will be created and the water play and sand
01:22area will have raised tables.
01:24There will also be sensory planting and an upgraded musical area.
01:28there will also be çünkü to heaven through two episodes in which are covered with a millenye
01:47been cutoff of the national improvement of the new beast.
