Voting began on Thursday morning for 29 Municipal Corporation elections across Maharashtra, being held after a gap of nine years.

00:00An important day in Maharashtra as elections for 29 municipal corporations are going on,
00:08but all eyes are on Mumbai as much-awaited BMC election voting day is going on.
00:15Currently, I am at Bandra polling station where Uddhav Thakre, Aditya Thakre and many
00:20others cast their vote just few moments ago.
00:25There are two 27 votes in Mumbai.
00:28Voting stations are open from 7.30 a.m. to 5.30 p.m. in the evening.
00:32A public holiday has been declared in municipal areas to encourage voter turnout.
00:38Results are expected the very next day, which is tomorrow, January 16.
00:44This will be the Shiv Sena's first BMC election since 2022 split.
00:49In Mumbai, the BJP is contesting 137 seats, the Shiv Sena 90, while NCP is fighting separately
00:57on 94 seats.
00:59The Shiv Sena UBT has fielded 163 candidates along with MNS 52, while Congress is contesting
01:06separately on 143 seats with the VBA 46.
01:12More than 27,000 police personnel including senior officials are deployed across Mumbai to oversee
01:20elections to BMC and next day which is a counting day.
01:26This BMC election is very interesting this time as one side there is a Mahayuti while on the
01:32other sides are two Thakere brothers.
01:35But who will conquer the country's richest civic body?
01:39The people of Amchi Mumbai will decide this today.
