00:00:00One, three, four!
00:00:01Oh, what a goal!
00:00:02Oh, look at that!
00:00:04Absolutely phenomenal!
00:00:06Rooney, oh ho!
00:00:08Welcome to Match of the Dead.
00:00:30Seven games, plenty of goals and a couple of horror shows.
00:00:54Alan Shearer and Ashley Williams join us.
00:00:56It's a day late, but is that a trick or a treat?
00:00:58I'll let you at home decide.
00:01:00It was six defeats in seven in all competitions for Champions Liverpool.
00:01:05Aston Villa had just won their last four in the league.
00:01:08Your commentator at Anfield, Steve Wilson.
00:01:11Only once in the last 70 years have Liverpool suffered such a dismal run of results.
00:01:17Informed Villa might be feeling that this represents an opportunity to beat them
00:01:22for the first time since that 7-2 game of 2020.
00:01:27Ignore the Carabao Cup, after all Arna Slott did.
00:01:30There are two changes to the Liverpool XI beaten by Brentford last weekend.
00:01:34Kerkhez and Wirtz, replaced by Robertson and fit again Gravenberg.
00:01:39Villa, who've won their last four, the longest current winning streak in the Premier League, make one change.
00:01:45Evan Guisson for the injured Emiliano Buendier.
00:01:48Can Liverpool get a league victory on the board after a dismal period?
00:01:58Watkins.
00:02:00Rodgers trying to give Watkins options.
00:02:02Here he is Morgan Rodgers.
00:02:04Lots of white shirts, forward needs hit the post.
00:02:09Well, Morgan Rodgers scored a fine goal at Tottenham Hotspur the other week.
00:02:14There's a little deflection on that and it carried it beyond Marmadashvili.
00:02:18In 2024, the calendar year, excluding penalty shootouts, he lost one game.
00:02:24In 2025, excluding shootouts, so far he's lost 14.
00:02:29Gakpo into Dominic Sobosly.
00:02:35It wasn't far away.
00:02:37Decent hit, but always heading wide, as you can see from that angle.
00:02:42And Martinez never looked worried.
00:02:49Salah's got the better of Luka Dean here.
00:02:52And he's inside of Onana.
00:02:54And he's looking for Gakpo and his header.
00:02:57Nearly found Eketike.
00:03:00Pretty certain Kody Gakpo was trying to get that on target.
00:03:04But it actually, very nearly, landed on the head of Hugo Eketike.
00:03:09Gakpo first, Sobosly.
00:03:11Robertson deflected and kindly for Villa.
00:03:18Rodgers.
00:03:20The camera into Cash.
00:03:27Villa have broken quickly and in numbers.
00:03:29Cash!
00:03:30Oh!
00:03:31Goodness me!
00:03:32He is so close.
00:03:34This is a brilliant effort.
00:03:36And make no mistake about it, he meant it all right.
00:03:39Georgi Marmadashvili's got a finger on this.
00:03:41It took a deflection too.
00:03:44And that's twice now Villa have hit the woodwork.
00:03:50Rodgers.
00:03:51There's a gap and he's going through it.
00:03:53And he's hit it well and Marmadashvili pushed it out.
00:03:56Good run by Rodgers.
00:04:00Good hit too though.
00:04:01Marmadashvili would expect to save those all day long really.
00:04:07Basically surrendered the Carabao Cup in midweek.
00:04:10Which some might understand, some didn't.
00:04:15Tao Torres.
00:04:16The line has been nicked by Sobosly.
00:04:20Dominic Sobosly, it's tamely into Emiliano Martinez.
00:04:25He had Eketike to his left, Salah to his right.
00:04:29And Villa are very lucky to get away with this.
00:04:32They're actually unbeaten in six now, Villa.
00:04:36They haven't lost a league game since August.
00:04:39Ryan Gravenberg.
00:04:41Salah.
00:04:42Looking for Gravenberg.
00:04:44It's come to McAllister.
00:04:45Great block by Konsa.
00:04:47Really good defending that.
00:04:50Luca Dean's lost his bearings here a little bit.
00:04:55Sobosly.
00:04:57Eketike!
00:05:02Liverpool lead.
00:05:06If he's onside, there'll be a check.
00:05:12Oh, he's offside.
00:05:13That's not going to count.
00:05:16Quite surprising that the flag didn't go up, in all honesty, because he's that far offside.
00:05:21His face suggested that the celebrations were going to be cut short, and that is the case.
00:05:29Oh, what's he done, Emilio Martinez?
00:05:40Mohamed Salah rolls in his 250th Liverpool goal.
00:05:45And it was wrapped up with a silk bow, and presented to him, Liverpool in front.
00:05:55And at a time when they desperately needed a bit of luck, or an absolute gift, they got the latter.
00:06:03Give Salah a bit of credit, he still actually finished it quite nicely, putting it to the left of Pau Torres.
00:06:14Villa have hit the woodwork twice, but gifted Liverpool the lead.
00:06:17Such is Liverpool's propensity to concede goals that it's very unlikely that they will feel comfortable at 1-0.
00:06:28They might not feel comfortable at 2-0.
00:06:30Van Dijk directing it to Gatpo.
00:06:32McAllister into Gravenberg.
00:06:36Here's an opportunity, Gravenberg, 2-0!
00:06:41Well, they've missed him, Ryan Gravenberg, with that ankle injury, but he's back in the side, and back in the goals.
00:06:48And Liverpool have a cushion now.
00:06:51And it's a big deflection of the sliding Pau Torres, which actually diverted it away from Martinez.
00:06:58A little bit unfortunate, Villa here.
00:07:01But it's Liverpool 2, Villa nil.
00:07:05Feels like the next goal in this game could be very important.
00:07:08If Liverpool were to score it, then you'd think job done.
00:07:11If Villa get it, then a very different story.
00:07:15Oh, deflected into the path of Dominic Sobberslay.
00:07:18This could finish it here, Mohamed Salah.
00:07:21Oh, it's blocked.
00:07:23Rebounding to Sobberslay, who's in an offside position.
00:07:25It's a real opportunity, that, for Liverpool.
00:07:28Again from a Villa error.
00:07:31Pass from Sobberslay.
00:07:34Had it been onto Salah's right boot, just might have made it more favourable for him.
00:07:39Emery board?
00:07:42Never.
00:07:44Every minute.
00:07:45Ryan Gravenberg.
00:07:46Good block by Esri Khonsa straight into the path of advancing Villa.
00:07:55Barkley into Daniel Marlin as the sub combine, and Marlin puts that just wide.
00:07:59Started by Khonsa, continued by Barkley, and dipping wide from Marlin.
00:08:09Well, that's nicely worked to Cash.
00:08:12Watkins in the middle, Rodgers in the middle.
00:08:15Blocked by Van Dijk, Villa corner.
00:08:17There's a glimmer of that.
00:08:18And with 20 minutes to go, if Villa can get one, they will firmly believe that they have time to get another one.
00:08:31In a crowded goal mouth tonight.
00:08:33Now, Alexis McAllister.
00:08:39Onana shoving McAllister here around the neck.
00:08:45Which is ill-advised.
00:08:48It's a yellow card for Amadou Onana.
00:08:56And he's nudged McAllister over again.
00:08:59And the referee has said, leave it out.
00:09:11Finally, in comes the corner kick into the crowd.
00:09:14The referee has blown his whistle and given the free kick to Liverpool.
00:09:20And McAllister and Onana three times involved in the tussle.
00:09:26Decision celebrated by Liverpool's World Cup winner.
00:09:37One of two Villa fans now beginning to drift away.
00:09:43The M6 isn't that far away, but can take a long time to get there from here after a match.
00:09:48And Unai Emery is a bit annoyed with Dominic Solverslai.
00:10:00He thinks they are not getting on with it.
00:10:03And Solverslai has indeed been shown a yellow card.
00:10:07And so too has Unai Emery.
00:10:10Margins are small, every single game.
00:10:13So again today, after five minutes, they hit the post.
00:10:16Maybe we didn't concede a set-piece, which is helpful as well.
00:10:20And maybe we were now a little bit lucky.
00:10:22Good first goal, although they made a mistake of course.
00:10:25But it wasn't the first time that we were able to be dangerous after a high press.
00:10:30And second goal deflection is a bit of luck, which we haven't had a lot of the last few weeks.
00:10:36The second half, we started not with the first half we did.
00:10:41And then we were trying to change something.
00:10:44They scored the second goal and after it was more difficult.
00:10:47But how we compete, how we played overall, building the team like we are.
00:10:55We had to accept this defeat and try to keep going and looking forward for the next matches.
00:11:02So Liverpool back to winning ways, Ashley.
00:11:05But even Arna Slott had talked of late about the blueprint to beat his team.
00:11:10But Villa went away from that today.
00:11:12Yeah, like recent weeks, Liverpool have showed a vulnerability in dealing with long balls straight down the middle.
00:11:18And as you said, Arna Slott has mentioned that in recent weeks.
00:11:21But we know Unai Emery is very, you know, tactically he's normally sound.
00:11:25But I was confused about the way he set his team up today with the tactics that they were playing,
00:11:30especially from the goalkeeper.
00:11:32They had numerous chances to play the ball into the position we were just talking about
00:11:36where Liverpool have struggled.
00:11:37But they seemed obsessed with playing the short pass.
00:11:40And Liverpool were very front-footed today.
00:11:43And this is early on in the game.
00:11:45They get away with that one.
00:11:46Here's another chance to play the ball.
00:11:48But long because it's Oli Watkins who's good at holding the ball up.
00:11:51That's not long enough.
00:11:53Robertson wins it.
00:11:55Ends up with a chance again.
00:11:56They get away with it again.
00:11:57And it was every single time with Martinez.
00:12:00Paul Torres can play the same ball from this position.
00:12:04He turns that down.
00:12:05They want to build up through midfield.
00:12:08But it's slow.
00:12:09It's sluggish.
00:12:10It's not sharp enough.
00:12:11He doesn't get turned.
00:12:12Now they've got themselves into trouble again.
00:12:13That should have been a goal.
00:12:14So they've had lots and lots of warnings.
00:12:17Torres is on the ball again with no pressure.
00:12:20If you've got Oli Watkins up front, hit him or put it in behind him,
00:12:23make the defenders run back to their own goal and deal with it.
00:12:26This is what I mean about the sloppy play.
00:12:28So not only have they not gone long, they're passing it.
00:12:31And it's so inaccurate and sloppy.
00:12:33And Mo Salah will never score an easier goal than that in his career.
00:12:38So it was just confusing really.
00:12:40We've got the graph up here, the stats.
00:12:42And they've played the fewest long balls against Liverpool this season.
00:12:45And when it's so obvious that they've been vulnerable to that,
00:12:49it was confusing that Unai Emery or the Aston Villa players
00:12:52decided to play short out from the back.
00:12:54I should say as well that was Mo Salah's 250th goal,
00:12:56person third on the all-time list for Liverpool.
00:12:58Generally, Ashley said they're front-footed.
00:13:00They were more physical, more combative and more energy.
00:13:03Definitely.
00:13:04Liverpool, it wasn't perfect but it was a lot better.
00:13:07And they just had to win the game tonight.
00:13:09But I thought the Gravenberg back in midfield gave them a bit more energy,
00:13:14a bit more stability and certainly a bit more organisation.
00:13:17And there's no doubt they deserved to win the game.
00:13:19I thought they played well.
00:13:21They pressed there, they win the ball back there.
00:13:24And you can see that they're all in really good positions,
00:13:27ready to hit Aston Villa again.
00:13:29And that's what they did.
00:13:32They said they're on a slot, they got the little bit of luck
00:13:35that perhaps they haven't had it with a little deflection.
00:13:37But you can see from that angle there, the way they set up,
00:13:40they know exactly what they want Aston Villa to do
00:13:43and they're forcing them to do that.
00:13:44And we're really happy that they did that because, as I said,
00:13:46they were ready for them and they were organised.
00:13:49This wasn't happening last week.
00:13:53You've seen the performance.
00:13:55And again, because of what the team that they put out with midweek,
00:13:57they somehow just had to win the game today.
00:13:59They've got to get the belief back, a little bit of confidence back
00:14:02and that will do them the world of good.
00:14:04It was the right result, it's what they needed.
00:14:06And as I said, there's the stats there.
00:14:08Have a look at the stats.
00:14:09The duels won, the tackles, all of those things
00:14:11where they were criticised for last weekend for not doing.
00:14:14This weekend, this game, it was back to something
00:14:17that we've been used to with this Liverpool team.
00:14:19So hopefully for them from now on,
00:14:21that will be the start of their form back again.
00:14:24Thank you very much.
00:14:25Leaders Arsenal didn't concede a goal in October,
00:14:27winning six matches in all competitions.
00:14:29Back-to-back victories for Burnley
00:14:31had moved them clear of the bottom three.
00:14:33Stephen Wyeth was at Turf Moor.
00:14:35A shared satisfaction at even healthier positions
00:14:39than they may have aspired to.
00:14:41Burnley are six points better off than at this stage
00:14:43of their last visit to the top flight,
00:14:45but changed the side that won them those successive games.
00:14:48Josh Laurent replaces Jakob Brun Larsson
00:14:51as Scott Parker opts to beef things up defensively.
00:14:54After ten changes in the League Cup in midweek,
00:14:57Arsenal revert to the team that made it four Premier League wins in a row.
00:15:01That means William Saliba's overcome an ankle injury.
00:15:04Leandro Trossard makes his 100th league appearance for the Gunners.
00:15:08Both sets of players wearing black armbands this afternoon
00:15:14in memory of a pair of former Gunners,
00:15:17Willie Young and Colin Addison.
00:15:19Young formed a formidable defensive partnership alongside that man David O'Leary.
00:15:25Only Premier League champions Liverpool have come to Turf Moor
00:15:31and left with a league victory in the last 18 months.
00:15:35And current Premier League leaders looking to do something about that today.
00:15:40Zubemmendi aiming for Jokerez.
00:15:46Ball instead finds Trossard.
00:15:49It was Kalefury who'd made the run.
00:15:52And there was a deflection on the pass.
00:15:55De Bravka realised that too late and couldn't prevent it going behind for a corner.
00:15:59Is an avoidable corner kick conceded, just a hesitation from De Bravka
00:16:05which meant he didn't manage to get across to the ball quickly enough.
00:16:09So the Premier League's corner kick experts have their first of the afternoon.
00:16:14In from Declan Rice.
00:16:17Deep with it.
00:16:18Confusion.
00:16:20And Arsenal capitalise.
00:16:22Victor Jokerez heads them in front.
00:16:27And after five Premier League games without a goal,
00:16:30Victor Jokerez back on the score sheet for the Premier League leaders.
00:16:37Rice swung it in.
00:16:38It was the depth that had everybody peeling towards the back post.
00:16:42But all that resulted in is freeing up just enough space for Jokerez to pounce on the loose ball.
00:16:50Arsenal lead at Burnley by a goal to nil.
00:16:58Jokerez helping it on towards Saka as Dev didn't clear.
00:17:01Saka is in.
00:17:02De Bravka has come up with what might just prove to be a really important save.
00:17:07But Keio Saka scored twice here for Arsenal two seasons ago in a 5-0 win.
00:17:15That was a really good opportunity to make it 2-0 today.
00:17:19To Nsebi.
00:17:20Florentino.
00:17:21Saka.
00:17:22Very nearly.
00:17:23There before.
00:17:24Esteve.
00:17:25Rice across to make sure the ball didn't reach Fleming.
00:17:28And now here's Eza.
00:17:29Jokerez.
00:17:30Arsenal in business here.
00:17:31Saka sees his effort saved by De Bravka.
00:17:32And now Trossard.
00:17:33Can't find a way through either thanks to two Burnley players on the line.
00:17:38Saka.
00:17:39Saka.
00:17:40Onside.
00:17:41Plenty to aim at.
00:17:42And it was a long outstretched arm of De Bravka that turned it aside.
00:17:43And then Trossard.
00:17:44And Hartman.
00:17:45Two Burnley players on the line.
00:17:46Saka.
00:17:47Onside.
00:17:48Plenty to aim at.
00:17:49And it was a long outstretched arm of De Bravka that turned it aside.
00:17:52And then Trossard.
00:17:53And Hartman.
00:17:54And to Nsebi.
00:17:55On the line.
00:17:56Walker with the big booming switch of play from one wing back to the other.
00:18:11Hartman.
00:18:12By Timba.
00:18:15Burnley.
00:18:16With a long throw opportunity that Karl Walker has gone across to take.
00:18:21Launched by Walker.
00:18:24Headed away with great determination by Gabriel.
00:18:29Walker's long throw is a weapon that Burnley will look to utilise.
00:18:35Gabriel with a towering leap above Fleming.
00:18:38And now Arsenal can break quickly.
00:18:41Led by Jocheres.
00:18:42Ezzet through the middle.
00:18:44Pass goes beyond that to Trossard.
00:18:46And now Arsenal shirts are arriving in numbers.
00:18:51Trossard for Rice.
00:18:53Rapid fire Arsenal.
00:18:54From one end of the field to the other.
00:19:03To put themselves 2-0 in front.
00:19:05And how's that for a goal from open play?
00:19:10Open play.
00:19:11A devastating counter attack.
00:19:13Jocheres with wonderful vision.
00:19:17He knew that Ezzet wasn't the best pass available.
00:19:20That Trossard beyond him was where it needed to go.
00:19:23That gave Arsenal the time they needed to get more bodies into the Burnley penalty area.
00:19:28And the one that arrived in the perfect area, Declan Rice.
00:19:34And the team that sits at the top of the table now have a margin that better reflects their first half dominant.
00:19:41Arsenal have won their last three games in the Premier League without conceding a goal.
00:19:49Fleming feels as though he's been on the rough end of one or two decisions.
00:19:52And he gets one here.
00:20:00To Nsebi towards Esteve.
00:20:03Chance here for Burnley.
00:20:05About as good a chance as they've had.
00:20:09Florentino launched himself towards the ball.
00:20:12But it was just fractionally behind him.
00:20:15And that made it a harder chance than it might otherwise have been.
00:20:19Arsenal are going to start.
00:20:21November as they navigated their way through October.
00:20:25The victory.
00:20:32Oh, Norgard has pinched the ball back into Bravka.
00:20:37Flying to make a save.
00:20:39To prevent Christian Norgard getting a first Arsenal goal.
00:20:46Well, they've had to ride out some Burnley enthusiasm
00:20:50in the second half of Arsenal.
00:20:52But they are finishing the game deep in their opponent's territory.
00:20:58Making sure they have done enough.
00:21:01Can Arsenal give the travelling support something else to cheer in the game's dying embers?
00:21:06In from Rice.
00:21:10That's again Burnley uncertain.
00:21:12But they've passed on the loose ball.
00:21:17And they're looking to create something for themselves.
00:21:20Brun Larsson.
00:21:22Look who it is back winning the header.
00:21:24The player who took the corner, Declan Rice.
00:21:26Hannibal.
00:21:30Clames of Handball and it is indeed a late Burnley free kick.
00:21:35Yellow card is out as well for Gabriel.
00:21:38Actually not Handball.
00:21:40Free kick for the challenge on Hannibal by Gabriel.
00:21:43Marcus Edwards for Burnley.
00:21:46Hits the post.
00:21:50The final act of the game.
00:21:52The frame of the goal protecting Arsenal's clean sheets.
00:21:58And Arsenal start November as they serenely progressed through October.
00:22:04With a win.
00:22:06And no goal conceded.
00:22:08The first half we were exceptional.
00:22:09Scored two goals.
00:22:10Probably should have scored another two or three.
00:22:12We gave nothing away.
00:22:14And that was a platform to win it.
00:22:15Because in the second half it's true that we weren't that precise.
00:22:19Especially with the ball.
00:22:20We had to make a few changes.
00:22:22And yeah we didn't have that much control of the game.
00:22:26But defensively again we were exceptional to maintain the clean sheet.
00:22:29We will take massive positives from that second half performance.
00:22:31Like we have throughout this season.
00:22:32When we've played against top top teams.
00:22:34There's been elements that we need to improve on.
00:22:37And certain elements which are really encouraging.
00:22:39And that was his second half here today.
00:22:41And Declan Rice.
00:22:42He was everywhere today.
00:22:43It was a game of a real leader it seemed.
00:22:46Absolutely.
00:22:47I think he stepped up.
00:22:48And winning the most.
00:22:49He won I don't know how many balls.
00:22:50How many tackles.
00:22:51He carried the ball.
00:22:53He scored the goal.
00:22:54So yeah.
00:22:55That's his evolution as a player.
00:22:57Longest winning run since 2018.
00:22:59With ten victories.
00:23:00Seven clean sheets.
00:23:01So you know.
00:23:02We heap the praise on Arsenal week after week.
00:23:04In terms of their attack.
00:23:05And we talk about their set pieces.
00:23:06But you're going to look at their attack today.
00:23:08Through a different prism.
00:23:09Yeah.
00:23:10We've analysed Declan Rice.
00:23:11This season.
00:23:12Who's outstanding again today.
00:23:14We've looked at Jokeres.
00:23:15Obviously defensively.
00:23:16We've looked at them.
00:23:17And they're rock solid.
00:23:18But perhaps what we might not have seen so much.
00:23:21Are.
00:23:22How such an important role is played by the two full backs.
00:23:25Timber and Calafiore.
00:23:26I mean.
00:23:27Their stats really.
00:23:28Are off the charts.
00:23:29And it would.
00:23:30And it would.
00:23:31It would be easy to say.
00:23:32Well okay.
00:23:33Because they dominated for large periods today.
00:23:35Particularly in the first half.
00:23:36This is not today.
00:23:37This is all season.
00:23:38Look at the stats.
00:23:39And the.
00:23:40For total shots.
00:23:41Calafiore's second.
00:23:43Expected goals.
00:23:44Touches in the opposition box.
00:23:46They're so high up there.
00:23:47With their.
00:23:48Particularly.
00:23:49Compared to their forward players.
00:23:50And.
00:23:51And today was another great example.
00:23:53Of what a great strength that is.
00:23:55To.
00:23:56To have them both.
00:23:57I mean.
00:23:58Look at Calafiore here.
00:23:59He's in a centre forward position.
00:24:00He's further forward than.
00:24:01Than anyone else.
00:24:02And.
00:24:03Alright.
00:24:04He doesn't get the ball to.
00:24:05To begin with.
00:24:06But look what happens.
00:24:07With that run.
00:24:08That then gets the corner.
00:24:09Which Arsenal.
00:24:10Once again.
00:24:11Score from.
00:24:12Great delivery.
00:24:13The knockback is superb.
00:24:14And Jokeres is in there.
00:24:15To.
00:24:16To tap it away.
00:24:17Same thing again.
00:24:18He gets into.
00:24:19A really good.
00:24:20Forward position.
00:24:21That run.
00:24:22Is the run of a centre forward.
00:24:24And again.
00:24:25They get another set piece.
00:24:26Which we know.
00:24:27How dangerous.
00:24:28They are.
00:24:29This he works really well.
00:24:30Not really involved.
00:24:31Until he gets into the box.
00:24:32But just watch his final position.
00:24:34Where he actually ends up.
00:24:36Again.
00:24:37He's in that centre forward position.
00:24:38Very difficult to pick up.
00:24:40Eventually the ball gets to him there.
00:24:42He could get his shot away.
00:24:43A little bit earlier.
00:24:44But he does eventually.
00:24:45And again.
00:24:46They get another set piece.
00:24:47But it's all because of him.
00:24:48And his willingness to get forward.
00:24:50Second half.
00:24:51Alright.
00:24:52In the first half.
00:24:53Uri and Timber.
00:24:54Did exactly the same.
00:24:55On the other side.
00:24:56In the.
00:24:57In the second half.
00:24:58They are such a threat.
00:24:59And so difficult.
00:25:00To pick up.
00:25:01Now watch his run.
00:25:02Into the centre forward position.
00:25:03The ball goes.
00:25:04It's a great ball.
00:25:05And he's really unlucky.
00:25:06He's not on the.
00:25:07On the end of it.
00:25:08But his intentions is to get in there.
00:25:10He's got a great relationship.
00:25:11With Saka.
00:25:12Down that right hand side.
00:25:13On the other side.
00:25:14They know when and where to pass it.
00:25:15But again.
00:25:16He's in that position.
00:25:17Getting forward.
00:25:18And there's Calafiore.
00:25:19Coming onto the edge of the box.
00:25:20So.
00:25:21Something that we.
00:25:22Maybe not have picked out before.
00:25:23But it's something very different.
00:25:24And those two players.
00:25:25Give great options.
00:25:26For Arsenal.
00:25:27In those forward positions.
00:25:28And have done all season.
00:25:30Alan mentioned.
00:25:31Declan Rice.
00:25:32His manager today.
00:25:33Mentioned him as well.
00:25:34Gave him.
00:25:35Special praise.
00:25:36And you're also.
00:25:37Going to heap some attention.
00:25:38To him.
00:25:39Because today was.
00:25:40Another complete performance.
00:25:41He was excellent today.
00:25:42But every blade of grass.
00:25:43Look at these stats.
00:25:44From the game today.
00:25:45He ranks first.
00:25:46In.
00:25:47In touches.
00:25:48Passes played.
00:25:49Into the box.
00:25:50Total.
00:25:51Crosses.
00:25:52I like this one.
00:25:53Because he's such a good.
00:25:54Ball carrier.
00:25:55The total distance.
00:25:56Of ball carrying.
00:25:57As a centre back.
00:25:58Myself.
00:25:59He would be perfect.
00:26:00If he's in front of you.
00:26:01Because he does all of the.
00:26:02The work.
00:26:03That you don't really.
00:26:04See.
00:26:05Picks up second balls.
00:26:06His set piece delivery.
00:26:07So important.
00:26:08To what Arsenal do.
00:26:09They score so many goals.
00:26:10From that.
00:26:11Or chips in with goals.
00:26:12Like he did today.
00:26:13He's.
00:26:14I wouldn't.
00:26:15I'd say.
00:26:16It's not an understatement.
00:26:17To say at the minute.
00:26:18He's the complete midfielder.
00:26:19He can attack.
00:26:20And defend.
00:26:21What Arsenal are trying to do.
00:26:22He embodies everything.
00:26:23That the managers.
00:26:24Built the team around.
00:26:25Outstanding.
00:26:26Okay.
00:26:27It is a year today.
00:26:28Since Ruben Amaran.
00:26:29Took charge.
00:26:30At Manchester United.
00:26:31Nottingham Forest.
00:26:32Have had more managers.
00:26:33Than points.
00:26:34Since an opening day.
00:26:35Win.
00:26:36For.
00:26:37For.
00:26:38For.
00:26:39For.
00:26:40For.
00:26:41For.
00:26:42For.
00:26:43For.
00:26:44For.
00:26:45For.
00:26:46For.
00:26:47For.
00:26:48For.
00:26:49For.
00:26:50For.
00:26:51For.
00:26:52For.
00:26:53For.
00:26:54For.
00:26:55For.
00:26:56For.
00:26:57For.
00:26:58For.
00:26:59For.
00:27:00For.
00:27:01For.
00:27:02For.
00:27:03For.
00:27:04For.
00:27:05For.
00:27:06For.
00:27:07For.
00:27:08For.
00:27:09For.
00:27:10For.
00:27:11For.
00:27:12For.
00:27:13For.
00:27:14For.
00:27:15For.
00:27:16For.
00:27:17For.
00:27:18making him the joint top scorer for the club in clashes between these two.
00:27:25United, three Premier League wins in a row.
00:27:28Last one, four in a row in February of 2024.
00:27:34Ndoy has a go and stings the hands of Lannans.
00:27:37He had to watch that, it was swerving all over the shop.
00:27:41Forrest are not playing like a team that's lost five of its last six games
00:27:45and been defeated in every one of its last four in the Premier League without scoring.
00:27:50I'm sure Nice seems to have brought a modicum of confidence back.
00:27:54Bruno Fernandes, nice bit of control, here's Embermo, he leaves it for Ahmad though.
00:27:59And Ahmad's going to take on the shot, powered by Sels.
00:28:05Deflection off Nico Williams, might just have taken a bit of pace off.
00:28:09Hard to tell whether that made it more easy or more difficult for Matt Sels.
00:28:13Ruben Amerim had a smile on his face this week when he said it's been a big journey.
00:28:20One of the biggest honours of his life to be the Manchester United manager and he wants to stay for many years.
00:28:24Well, the huge tanker seems to be on the turn in the right direction.
00:28:32Back with Embermo.
00:28:33He just gets himself a bit of room away from Williams.
00:28:39And an important header from Savona with Szczesko ready to test Sels if he could.
00:28:46And has now gone out.
00:28:47Well, the Forrest fans at the Trent End had a really good look at that, they're right on top of it.
00:28:51They, of course, didn't think it did.
00:28:55It was the hole of the ball, the full skin, over the line.
00:29:02Don't think that was entirely proved.
00:29:04Let's not forget that Forrest conceded direct from a corner at Bournemouth last Sunday when it shouldn't have been one.
00:29:13Oh, it's happened again!
00:29:15It's happened again to Nottingham Forrest and Casimiro scored again for Manchester United.
00:29:21What's the ball out of play? Well, there is part of the circumference hanging over the line and generally that's deemed to be not fully out, but not this time.
00:29:36Kielhausen right on the other side.
00:29:38He thought he'd seen it cross the line in its entirety, gave the corner and from the corner Manchester United score.
00:29:46Two weeks running, Forrest have the same complaint.
00:29:49Forrest.
00:29:54Anderson.
00:29:59And Doy.
00:30:04Yates.
00:30:05Time to set himself before chipping in.
00:30:07Gives one, Xeno goes in.
00:30:11Oh, that was pinpoint stuff.
00:30:13it's taken Forrest less than three second half minutes to level it up
00:30:20their first Premier League home goal since the opening weekend of the season
00:30:29lovely cross from Yates and Hudson had always stayed in front of Ahmad
00:30:34he wasn't strong enough to cope with him it's still a heck of a header to beat the
00:30:40fully outstretched Senna Lammans and find the bottom corner once more the message
00:30:46from Sean Dyche is switch on a different kind of switch on this time
00:30:51Gibbs-White he's leading the charge
00:30:56Gibbs-White looks for Ndoy at the back
00:31:04Ndoy has Savona there to help him
00:31:09Yates has time again didn't want to turn and deliver this time
00:31:14Ndoy does and it loops up towards Igor Jesus
00:31:18and it breaks here for the chance that is taken
00:31:20by Nicola Savona
00:31:24what a turnaround
00:31:32in no time at all
00:31:34Igor Jesus caused a problem with his jump all the United defenders got in one another's way
00:31:40it was all about where the ball would break to
00:31:42Nicola Savona in behind them all to poke the ball home
00:31:48and from 1-0 down three minutes later Forrest a 2-1 up
00:31:52Ruben Amarin wanting an improvement in Manchester United's away form
00:31:58he's been saying we need to improve the way we control the environment
00:32:02well this environment's got away from them here
00:32:05Bruno Fernandes to shoot off the post is Casemiro
00:32:09and he's just wide of the other post
00:32:11it's a terrific try from Manchester United's captain
00:32:19clearly feels that he deserved the goal for it
00:32:23it's hard to argue
00:32:25had a long way to travel and bobble its way towards Matt Sell's goal
00:32:31here come Forrest with Callum Hudson-Odoi
00:32:38and it whistles wide
00:32:42they were clearing their throats behind that goal
00:32:44started on target and just curled away
00:32:49Ruben Amarin
00:32:50I don't think I've seen him look particularly angry before
00:32:54he keeps a lid on his emotions by and large for good and bad but
00:32:58he looked to be close to cracking there
00:33:02Mendoi
00:33:03goes behind off Dorgu
00:33:07I wouldn't say it's all Forrest since they turned it around to
00:33:10go in front but
00:33:12it's predominantly Forrest
00:33:20it's Yates who climbed
00:33:22handball shouts as Morello tangled with Ahmad
00:33:27BAR had a little look at that
00:33:29that was what they were shouting handball about
00:33:31the ball clearly rolling down the shoulder
00:33:33on towards the hand of Ahmad
00:33:35nothing doing there
00:33:37Manchester United's winning run
00:33:40will be at an end unless they can
00:33:42score a couple of times
00:33:44they've got a corner
00:33:46that might aid their cause
00:33:48Abouma to take the corner
00:33:52sells to try and fight through the crowd
00:33:54he couldn't
00:33:55Dorgu had a swipe and missed
00:33:56Ahmad has a swipe
00:33:57and scores
00:33:59spectacularly
00:34:062-2 at the city ground
00:34:08Ahmad's first goal of the season is a beauty
00:34:11Casimiro back across the penalty area
00:34:15Dorgu didn't make any connection with the ball
00:34:18when it came out to Ahmad he had a one-shot deal
00:34:21that's a stunner
00:34:24and it stunned Forrest
00:34:26Nottingham Forrest 2, Manchester United 2
00:34:28Bruno Fernandes to Dorgu
00:34:38Casimiro
00:34:39big deflection on that
00:34:40sells wrong-footed
00:34:41but enough bounce on the ball to take it over
00:34:44it came off Murillo who didn't know whether to go head, knee or leg
00:34:48could have gone anywhere from there
00:34:50could have gone anywhere from there
00:34:55Sean Dyche furious they're trying to get instructions to his players
00:34:58it's a short corner
00:35:00and it's Ahmad with a deep one for De Ligt
00:35:02sells has to fly
00:35:04there's Ahmad
00:35:05off the line
00:35:07Nico Williams has somehow cleared that
00:35:10might have been Murillo
00:35:12the two made sure they dropped back and prevented a Manchester United winner
00:35:18yeah it's Murillo
00:35:19a block that's as good as any save you'll see from a keeper
00:35:23I think from the minute one you can see how aggressive the game was
00:35:26I think chances from both sides making a lot of chances
00:35:29and obviously creating them and scoring them as well to be fair
00:35:32so I think obviously both teams done really well
00:35:34but especially for us we had an amazing game
00:35:36we lost control of the game for five minutes
00:35:38two opportunities and they scored
00:35:40that can happen
00:35:42I feel that in the recent past
00:35:45if we had this situation
00:35:47we would struggle so much more than today
00:35:50we managed to control the emotions
00:35:52and we played well
00:35:54but we dropped a little bit the energy
00:35:57I'm happy to score my first goal
00:35:59but honestly
00:36:01the thing was to win as a team today
00:36:04to go home with three points
00:36:06I just find it bizarre
00:36:08the assistant referee 78 yards
00:36:10I don't know whatever it is
00:36:11I'm sure you've got a bit of technology that can tell me exactly
00:36:14you've got to guess on that
00:36:15and if you're going to guess
00:36:17surely you've got to give it to the defending team
00:36:20I think
00:36:21I know the Premier League want more goals
00:36:22and everyone wants more goals
00:36:23but we're fighting to get out there
00:36:25we're fighting for everything we can get
00:36:27I just think two in two weeks is too much
00:36:29you know
00:36:30I mean they talk about VAR
00:36:31we'll see him walking up to the monitor
00:36:32a waste of time
00:36:33we'll see him
00:36:34you know looking at this
00:36:35look at that waste of time
00:36:36that'll take four seconds
00:36:37we'll get on to that in a moment
00:36:39but first of all
00:36:40Ahmed Diallo
00:36:41we heard him there
00:36:42and clearly has great talent
00:36:44and we saw that today going forward
00:36:45does he create a conundrum for United?
00:36:47Yeah I think conundrum's the correct word
00:36:49because he's in the team
00:36:50because of his attacking qualities
00:36:52but he can't play in the 2-10 positions
00:36:54because you've got Mbwemo and Cunha
00:36:56that are playing really well
00:36:57so where does he play?
00:36:58He plays right wing back
00:37:00so what happens is
00:37:01he finds himself in defensive positions at times
00:37:03which isn't his strength
00:37:05if you look at this graphic
00:37:07this is Hudson-Odoi's touches of the ball
00:37:10so Callum Hudson-Odoi is an attacking player
00:37:12and he's very good in these positions
00:37:14this is where he wants to get the ball
00:37:16Ahmed
00:37:17that's his average position today
00:37:19so he's also an attacking player
00:37:21and he wants the ball going forward
00:37:22but sometimes he finds himself here
00:37:25now this is not what Manchester United want from Ahmed
00:37:28if you look at Lenny Yarrow
00:37:29he's got eyes on Nico Williams
00:37:31he makes an inside run
00:37:32I think they've tried to isolate
00:37:34Ahmed against Hudson-Odoi
00:37:36Casemiro can deal with Nico Williams
00:37:38and what I would like is Lenny Yarrow
00:37:40to come across and be telling Ahmed
00:37:42I'm with you, send him inside
00:37:44but Hudson-Odoi gets to the byline with ease
00:37:48puts a crossing, they nearly score
00:37:50this time, again he's in this sort of full back position
00:37:54because he has to do his work
00:37:55he's an honest lad
00:37:56and he's trying to get back in
00:37:57and do a job for the team
00:37:58but it's not his quality
00:37:59his quality is going forward
00:38:01so as we've highlighted him here
00:38:03as we freeze it
00:38:04we've got the three centre backs
00:38:06if Luke Shaw moves back a little bit
00:38:08De Ligt is marking Milenkovic
00:38:10and then Lenny Yarrow can move back
00:38:12and do Morgan Gibbs-White
00:38:14which would allow Ahmed to be outside
00:38:17to do Hudson-Odoi
00:38:18but as we roll it on
00:38:20now we have Ahmed in a centre backs position
00:38:22trying to head a ball out
00:38:24which is not his strength
00:38:25and then they concede from that
00:38:27on the flip side
00:38:28this is why he's in the team
00:38:29because his quality
00:38:30and when he's going forward
00:38:31he's devastating
00:38:32gets it out of his feet
00:38:35great shot, equal save
00:38:37again, going forward
00:38:40brilliant
00:38:41takes a touch
00:38:42acres of space
00:38:43this is a beautiful ball
00:38:44bounces about two yards out
00:38:46unlucky
00:38:47Casemiro's unlucky not to score
00:38:49this is
00:38:51his goal
00:38:52wham
00:38:54what a strike that is
00:38:55the technique
00:38:56if you look at the technique
00:38:57it's perfect
00:38:58what a goal that is
00:39:00so this isn't the player
00:39:01that you want defending
00:39:03here
00:39:04he puts a ball in at the back stick
00:39:06it comes back out
00:39:07he follows it in
00:39:08could have won it at the death
00:39:09if not for a great block
00:39:10from two of the Forest players
00:39:13but he's in the team
00:39:15because of his
00:39:16his attacking play
00:39:17and he's such an honest lad
00:39:19that he ends up doing
00:39:20lots of defensive work
00:39:21and then he ends up
00:39:22it looks bad on him
00:39:24but realistically
00:39:25what
00:39:26Ruben Amarin's got to sort
00:39:27this problem out
00:39:28where we get Lenny Yarrow
00:39:29across a bit quicker
00:39:30so he can play higher up the pitch
00:39:31now we're going to get onto the corner
00:39:32but there is something else
00:39:33that Forest fans are not happy about
00:39:35tonight
00:39:36and it involves Ahmed
00:39:37so we're going to have a look at this now
00:39:38the possible handball
00:39:40I can see why Forest fans would be upset
00:39:42because it clearly makes contact with his arm
00:39:45it could be given
00:39:48I don't think that he's
00:39:50you can see where the referee is
00:39:52he's got a clear view of it
00:39:53he's right on top of it
00:39:54and he instantly
00:39:56waves his hand and says no
00:39:57so we have to go with what the ref says on that one
00:40:00but I can see why they feel agreed
00:40:02Manchester United dominated possession today
00:40:05but that hasn't been the trend for them of late
00:40:07when they've been picking up good results
00:40:09No, a large part of what they've been doing
00:40:11and been successful over the last few weeks
00:40:13is that when they've been kicking along
00:40:15they've been more direct
00:40:16they've been picking up more second balls
00:40:18but on the other side
00:40:19they've not had so much possession
00:40:21but they've been winning games
00:40:22and you can see the stat there
00:40:24I mean against Brighton it was 43%
00:40:26against Liverpool
00:40:27it was 36%
00:40:29but today they had 59% possession
00:40:31and didn't do too much with that ball
00:40:34so that's the improvement that they've got to make
00:40:36in terms of getting results
00:40:37and playing better
00:40:38when they've got the ball
00:40:40So for the second week running
00:40:42Forest feel they've been hard done by
00:40:44with a decision here
00:40:45where of course there was a corner
00:40:47and they feel it shouldn't have been
00:40:49and the ball wasn't clearly out of play
00:40:53Well Sean Dyche's got a point
00:40:55I mean I'm not sure how the assistant
00:40:56over at the far side
00:40:57can actually see that far
00:40:58and be absolutely certain
00:41:00that that ball is out
00:41:01because it isn't
00:41:02and he's nearly 70 yards away
00:41:03so he can't be certain
00:41:04because well it isn't
00:41:05the ball isn't out
00:41:06but I agree with Sean
00:41:07I understand his frustration
00:41:09and his anger
00:41:10but I wouldn't say that
00:41:12we'd like to get Varen that involved
00:41:14because the game's stopping
00:41:15and starting as it is
00:41:16I know he says it'll only take
00:41:17four or five seconds
00:41:18but no I wouldn't encourage that
00:41:21but I would encourage the
00:41:22officials to do their job properly
00:41:25and get it right
00:41:26not guess
00:41:27because he's guessed there
00:41:28and he's got it wrong
00:41:29Yeah and it's not out is it
00:41:30the disappointing thing for Sean Dyche
00:41:32from my point of view anyways
00:41:33once that's given
00:41:34you can see the Forest players reaction
00:41:36when the goal goes in
00:41:37they don't defend it very well
00:41:39and then they all chase down the referee
00:41:40so the disappointing thing is
00:41:41yes you're disappointed that
00:41:42it hasn't gone out
00:41:43and it hasn't gone out
00:41:44it shouldn't be a corner
00:41:45but once a corner's given
00:41:46Defend it better
00:41:47OK
00:41:48bottom of the table
00:41:49Wolves were hunting
00:41:50a first win of the season
00:41:51at Fulham
00:41:52who'd lost their last four
00:41:53Chris Wise was at Craven Cottage
00:41:55Not a club in crisis
00:41:57but a crisis of results
00:41:59that's Vitor Pereira's assessment
00:42:01of Wolves' current predicament
00:42:02the message is that
00:42:04the club are continuing
00:42:05to back their head coach
00:42:06but if Wolves lose today
00:42:08it's going to be less of a gap to safety
00:42:10and more of a chasm
00:42:12Marco Silva's team
00:42:13are one of those in Wolves' eye line
00:42:15they're 17th
00:42:16but with a squad
00:42:17that has a much more senior feel to it today
00:42:19four changes from the defeat at Newcastle
00:42:22including the return of Joachim Anderson
00:42:24and a first league start for Kevin
00:42:26Vitor Pereira has reinstated Emmanuel Agbedou
00:42:29and Totti Gomez to his side
00:42:31to try to end this horrible Wolves run
00:42:39Vitor Pereira says he believes
00:42:41this group of players will change
00:42:43this situation for Wolves
00:42:45and they really do need change
00:42:48but they're in trouble
00:42:49because this
00:42:50is Jimenez feeding it through
00:42:52and Fulham have the goal
00:42:53from Sessegnon
00:42:56Wolves unlocks inside nine minutes
00:42:59and it is all too easy
00:43:04and Ryan Sessegnon
00:43:05who is a relatively regular contributor
00:43:07to Fulham goals
00:43:08even from that
00:43:09left back position
00:43:11bursts through
00:43:12look at the room
00:43:13he's got
00:43:14time to set himself
00:43:15maybe not the cleanest finish
00:43:17but
00:43:18enough power to get it
00:43:19underneath Sam Johnston
00:43:20and with the Wolves
00:43:22in trouble
00:43:23in West London already
00:43:24Marco Silva talking this week about
00:43:26Fulham starting fast and engaging with the home supporters with their play today
00:43:35so he'll be very content with what his team have served up so far
00:43:38Tete
00:43:41the movement from Josh King
00:43:44Agvedu
00:43:45as he caught him
00:43:46he has
00:43:47now what is the decision going to be
00:43:49Agvedu's in trouble
00:43:51he's in big trouble
00:43:52the Wolves centre half is sent off
00:43:57is King in on goal?
00:43:58I think you have to say he probably is
00:44:00no contact on the ball
00:44:03some contact on Fulham's teenager
00:44:09question is whether
00:44:11Josh King has used his arm to bring that ball down
00:44:15so that's what VAR Andrew Madley is looking at
00:44:18and they are happy that that is not the use of the arm from Josh King
00:44:27so Agvedu will walk
00:44:29the game is not going Vitor Pereira's way right now
00:44:34Glum faces in that Wolves away end
00:44:39well technically it's 13 games without Wolves winning the Premier League
00:44:42they didn't get victories in any of their final four matches of last season either
00:44:46Wobie
00:44:50he left a bid on him there
00:44:52Berger's giving it to Tete
00:44:53Tete's urged to shoot and he did
00:44:58that's Sam Johnstone flying
00:45:00to go all the way back to December 2023
00:45:02for the last Kenny Tete Premier League goal
00:45:05that was against Liverpool
00:45:07that one was going in
00:45:09they've got a few points they want to get across the walls fans
00:45:12now Raul Jimenez again
00:45:25and with a bit more room this time Jimenez
00:45:28Sander Berger
00:45:30and beautifully dispatched by Harry Wilson
00:45:33what a classy finish that is
00:45:40Raul Jimenez just like he was in the first half central to this one too
00:45:45the more you watch that you realise that
00:45:50it is a truly excellent finish from Harry Wilson
00:45:53the chance of we want Fosin out ringing out in the away end
00:46:04and Fulham moving at speed up to the edge of Wolves penalty area with Wilson
00:46:09that was nearly another for him
00:46:10keeping Sam Johnstone honest in this second half
00:46:16very much enjoys a spectacular goal Harry Wilson
00:46:20we've seen that already
00:46:22in many many ways Wolves do
00:46:24not have much of a pace for the defence today
00:46:27that was short from Emile Smith-Rowe
00:46:29so Kearney was on the stretch
00:46:30he got enough of the ball
00:46:32Smith-Rowe
00:46:34out towards Iwobi
00:46:35Chiu has put himself in a defensive position
00:46:40Iwobi with support from Sessignon
00:46:43it's 3-0
00:46:45what a woeful afternoon this is for Wolves
00:46:50hit on the counter attack by Fulham
00:46:54and on an afternoon where they've conceded three
00:46:57they've had a man sent off
00:46:59and one of their own
00:47:01has put one into his own net
00:47:06Sessignon's appetite to get forward that caused the issue
00:47:13now there are Wolves fans chanting to Vito Pereira
00:47:16that you are getting sacked in the morning
00:47:21Smith-Rowe
00:47:23largely been used off the bench Smith-Rowe this season for Fulham
00:47:27Iwobi reaching the ball ahead of Mosquera
00:47:29Smith-Rowe
00:47:30oh up the post
00:47:32from Chikwese
00:47:34and Kearney
00:47:36it's a corner it should have been a full Fulham goal
00:47:38I don't really know how Chikwese's missed
00:47:41and Chikwese from 6 yards out
00:47:44has clobbered the crossbar rather than the back of Sam Johnston's net
00:47:48and there's the full time whistle
00:47:50and the boos are loud from the Wolves supporters
00:47:54there it is
00:47:57you're getting sacked in the morning
00:47:59Fulham 3
00:48:01Wolves 0
00:48:03Ryan congratulations you have your goal and Fulham at long last have their win
00:48:09yeah finally
00:48:11we've been pretty disappointed with the way the results have been going the last 3-4 games
00:48:14and we knew today was a big game
00:48:17we had to make a statement today and happy that we got three goals and a clean sheet
00:48:21a very important one for us back home
00:48:24you want to make this place our fortress really
00:48:26and we won again
00:48:28and it's very important to the clean sheet
00:48:30it's normal to be anxious the team and the players of course it was very important for us to win
00:48:35second half was better and because that we control much better the game and we didn't give any chance for them like we should
00:48:41and we scored two goals and we had some more good chances
00:48:44what's your assessment of today's performance?
00:48:47maybe the worst performance from my team
00:48:52maybe the worst technically, tactically, physically
00:48:5711 against 11 was a mistake and we considered a goal
00:49:04but after with red car it was very difficult
00:49:07we should be embarrassed and you know they might not want to hear it but we obviously apologise to the fans
00:49:14we're trying our best but you know we have to keep going and we've got good players and we need to turn it around quickly
00:49:23the fans were very angry at full time
00:49:26how does that make you feel, Vito, when you're hearing them saying you're going to get sacked tomorrow?
00:49:29I'm not worried about myself, I'm worried about my team. What we showed today we need to talk about it
00:49:38because I cannot accept what we did today
00:49:43Vito Pereira scathing about his side but it is a big win for Marco Silva and Fulham
00:49:49they're first in five and you want to focus on Alex Iwobi's performance in that today
00:49:54Yeah, really impressive today, he played in a deeper role than normal right next to Sander Berg
00:50:00and I think it worked brilliantly
00:50:02you can see him here in the build up play, he's a lot deeper than he usually is
00:50:06but because he's so good and he's in such good form
00:50:09today he was starting off attacks for Fulham which was interesting because normally we see him higher up the pitch
00:50:13here he's taking Crecci out to the left back position almost, which he doesn't actually touch the ball here
00:50:22but it just opens up that lane for Fulham to get in and they get their goal
00:50:28but that kind of movement we see here again, just taking Crecci to the side
00:50:33not being in the middle of the pitch
00:50:36and as we see here, they've dragged the whole of the Wolves team over
00:50:40and that's all because of Iwobi's movement and then that allows Fulham to get out the other side
00:50:46at half time then he moves to the usual left wing position where we see him
00:50:50and I just think he's so impressive because he's so fit, so energetic, so fast
00:50:55he can carry the ball, he can run without the ball
00:50:58a little bit of patience, plays the right pass, ends up in the back of the net again
00:51:02so for me, I just think his evolution as a player, Alex Iwobi has been so interesting, impressive to see him
00:51:12how he's matured into that, he can now play in that deeper midfield position and do it so well
00:51:16Let's get into Wolves then because Sam Johnson said embarrassed there
00:51:19and no team has made more mistakes leading to goals than Wolves this season
00:51:25they've lost, not going to win in their first ten for the second season running
00:51:29The manager said it, didn't he, in his words after the game
00:51:33everything about their game today was shambolic, it really was, they were all over the place
00:51:39and the worrying part is they've been beaten by the three promoted teams
00:51:42Fulham was 17th today but it's not just about being beaten, it's the way they're being beaten
00:51:48and how easy it is for other teams to score against them
00:51:52and yeah, they're in an awful position and you really have to fear for them
00:51:56Two games on Sunday's Match of the Day
00:51:58The one off, that's an absolutely stunning goal
00:52:06The chance to score the winner, the pressure pays
00:52:11There he is, Erling Haaland
00:52:15Kruppi with the goal
00:52:17Second in the Premier League table

00:52:46A London derby next
00:52:48No away team had won more games at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium than Chelsea
00:52:52Commentary comes from Jonathan Pearce
00:52:55Contrasting fortunes in the midweek League Cup ties
00:52:58and in the Premier League of late
00:53:00Spurs make two changes to the side that won in the league at Everton
00:53:03Bergwahl gets his first league start since September
00:53:05and Saar also returns
00:53:07Johnson and Simmonds go to the bench
00:53:09as they look for only a second league victory over Chelsea in 14 meetings
00:53:13The Blues give Wesley Fofana only a 30th league game in three injury hit years at the club
00:53:18with Achimpong rotate to the bench
00:53:19as they make two changes from league defeat at home to Sunderland
00:53:23with Malo Gusto replacing Mark Yu
00:53:25Rhys James has pushed into midfield we think
00:53:27Charles Pedro who missed the League Cup win at Wolves in the week
00:53:29leads the attack
00:53:31Liam de Lap of course is suspended
00:53:33lost just two of his eight Premier League games as a manager against Chelsea
00:53:39Thomas Frank
00:53:40all three of his victories have come at Stamford Bridge though
00:53:42he's not won a home league game
00:53:45against the Blues
00:53:46there's Charles Pedro
00:53:50just rolled his foot on the ball, no free kick
00:53:53and he's scalloped back, won it back and was fouled
00:53:57just got caught by Pabasar
00:54:01it is a London derby where tackles are meant
00:54:05Bergwahl got one right on the side of his head there
00:54:08just checking here there's no concussion, the referee's doing the right thing
00:54:12he looks very groggy doesn't it
00:54:16the referee is explaining to him he has to do what the medical staff say
00:54:21all the best laid plans etc etc
00:54:24and Xavi Simons will get a quick recall
00:54:28the start of the afternoon on the bench
00:54:30well that's bounced kindly here for Charles Pedro, big chance
00:54:41Vicario rescues Tottenham Hotspur
00:54:48first big chance of the game
00:54:51he's lacking confidence in on goal Pedro
00:54:56he's done so
00:54:57and that's got the crowd going at last
00:55:02Sarr
00:55:04he's kudos
00:55:06ooh, it's all the shock
00:55:08suddenly the game has come to life
00:55:11wasn't a good clearance by Porro
00:55:15fell kindly for Charles Pedro
00:55:17Jimmy Greaves scored 398 goals for Chelsea in Tottenham
00:55:22that was not a Jimmy Greaves finish
00:55:28Garnaccio lots of space
00:55:30Porro's gone in too tight into the middle
00:55:32he was helped out there by Kudis though
00:55:35he defended astutely for Tottenham
00:55:40the trouble is they have no out ball through the middle up front
00:55:42Pernamuani wants to go out wider to the right
00:55:46they've made another mistake here Tottenham
00:55:52Cosedo's throw must be this time Charles Pedro
00:55:54and his
00:55:56and Chelsea are ahead and
00:55:58deservedly so I think
00:56:00Tottenham, too many mistakes at the back so far
00:56:03he missed the first opportunity to punish them
00:56:08but not the second
00:56:10Spence wanted to do too much on it
00:56:12got caught in possession by Keseida
00:56:15in Van de Ven
00:56:17and Simmonds had a chance to get away
00:56:18wretched ball back by Simmonds
00:56:20Keseida was in there to backle to win
00:56:23and Charles Pedro scored
00:56:24one mistake here by Tottenham
00:56:27another mistake there by Spurs
00:56:29another mistake there by Spurs
00:56:34and rattled home
00:56:36for his sixth for Chelsea
00:56:38including the Club World Cup
00:56:43in light for Enzo Maresca
00:56:49James to Neto
00:56:50Christo is onside Tottenham a hesitant sluggish
00:56:56in it comes
00:56:57great effort
00:56:58brilliant save
00:57:00what a superb save to the night
00:57:02Charles Pedro a second
00:57:04crisp cross
00:57:06met first time
00:57:07lovely effort
00:57:08super save
00:57:10Charles Pedro unlucky
00:57:14this is Chaliver
00:57:17there was a dangerous ball played in there
00:57:18and James was caught
00:57:21and Ben Tancur here
00:57:23getting involved with an angry Fofana
00:57:28oh it's not a good challenge by Ben Tancur
00:57:32yellow card
00:57:36James thinks it should have been red
00:57:41it was a reckless challenge was it
00:57:43deemed to not have excessive force though
00:57:46excessive force though
00:57:55and it bounced away here of Golo Mouane it does
00:57:58little set up to Papsar
00:58:00one more to Kudus
00:58:02tried to plant it
00:58:04Sanchez had to stretch
00:58:06he went for placement
00:58:08that's a decent save by Sanchez
00:58:10Spurs best move of the game
00:58:11Pedro Neto
00:58:15Pedro Neto
00:58:21James
00:58:22Delegate
00:58:23cheer-bentered Fernandes
00:58:26header flies over it's an opportunity here for Chelsea
00:58:29to get a two goal buffer
00:58:30and a two goal buffer
00:58:35poor touch by Johnson
00:58:39staggering to think that Tottenham on this display came into this game third in the table
00:58:44they have been well short
00:58:45Jamie Gittance
00:58:47Enzo Fernandes
00:58:49could have hit the strike
00:58:50here's Neto
00:58:52Harry but back into a dangerous position by the goalkeeper
00:58:53the cleverest of saves
00:58:55James
00:58:57they have created far more opportunities than Spurs
00:59:00Gittance
00:59:02clever ball in
00:59:03little touch on by Charles Pedro
00:59:04Fernandes
00:59:05could have hit it
00:59:06Neto did
00:59:09Spurs again really failing to get the ball away cleanly
00:59:11and James over the top
00:59:14second minute of stoppage time
00:59:17Chelsea again a high defensive line of 10
00:59:20this time slightly deeper
00:59:2312 yards outside the penalty area
00:59:25it's played short
00:59:29which means that Chelsea can now come out
00:59:32Tottenham fans booing
00:59:35it's all the way through to Robertson
00:59:38listen to the Spurs fans
00:59:42they are hating this
00:59:44that's a lovely ball in
00:59:46there's a chance for Charles Pedro
00:59:48to make it safe
00:59:49oh
00:59:50and Gittance balloons it
00:59:54Esteval
00:59:55head up
00:59:56sensible ball to Charles Pedro
00:59:58heavy touch
00:59:59so he couldn't get the shot away
01:00:01and Gittance probably wishes he hadn't got the shot away
01:00:05that's a horrible finish
01:00:09how many chances do they need
01:00:11to put this game to
01:00:12bed here's Esteval
01:00:13take on Sa
01:00:16take on Sa
01:00:17that's a mismatch
01:00:18enter Fernandes
01:00:19Ciao Pedro
01:00:20good save
01:00:21by Vicario
01:00:24in terms of attacking football
01:00:26there's been one team in it
01:00:27and that's the team in blue
01:00:30and Chelsea
01:00:32five wins in a row
01:00:34against Spurs
01:00:35who cannot get any success at home
01:00:38Tottenham didn't muster a single effort on target
01:00:41in the second half
01:00:43and just one in the entire game
01:00:45Tottenham nil Chelsea one
01:00:47the performance was very good
01:00:49I'm very happy
01:00:50first of all for the players
01:00:52because we needed a reaction after the Sunderland game
01:00:56for the fans because it's a derby
01:00:58it's a huge game
01:00:59and also for the clean sheet
01:01:01because we need to be defensively solid
01:01:03we were definitely the second best today
01:01:05Chelsea were better than us on the day
01:01:07no doubt about that
01:01:09we made so many
01:01:10how can you say
01:01:11simple
01:01:12passing mistakes
01:01:13and lost the ball too many times
01:01:14a little bit
01:01:15there could be many things
01:01:16there could be
01:01:17forms on day
01:01:18there could be freshness
01:01:19there could be decision making
01:01:20and that we didn't have
01:01:22what's your message now
01:01:23that you've won another away game
01:01:24you're having a terrific season away
01:01:26exactly
01:01:27in the last seven games
01:01:28we won six
01:01:29we lost one
01:01:30so I think
01:01:31we are in the right path
01:01:32but
01:01:33after
01:01:34Sunderland
01:01:36we move on
01:01:37and after today
01:01:38we move on
01:01:39continue in three days
01:01:40we have another game
01:01:41in one week another game
01:01:42we don't stop
01:01:43Chelsea's very good away
01:01:44form continues
01:01:45and Tottenham's poor home form continues
01:01:47but Chelsea smothered them today
01:01:49that's exactly what Chelsea did to Tottenham
01:01:51they didn't allow them to play at all
01:01:54their midfield
01:01:55dominated
01:01:57and again
01:01:58the brilliant Caicedo
01:01:59who I thought ran the show
01:02:01was everywhere
01:02:02was getting stuck in
01:02:03winning tackles
01:02:04but there's nowhere to go
01:02:05wherever
01:02:06Tottenham went
01:02:07they had a
01:02:08player or two
01:02:09of Chelsea
01:02:10around them
01:02:11and stopping them from playing
01:02:12and they really were excellent
01:02:13the energy that
01:02:14Chelsea brought to the game
01:02:16the way they stopped Tottenham playing
01:02:18and forcing them to do that mistake
01:02:20after mistake
01:02:21after mistake
01:02:22after mistake
01:02:23again they run into
01:02:24into Caicedo
01:02:25they have a chance to clear it here
01:02:26but no
01:02:27there's no options
01:02:28there's just no options at all for Tottenham
01:02:30and they got caught on the ball
01:02:32so many times
01:02:33and on that occasion
01:02:34they were punished
01:02:36it can go long
01:02:37but they choose not to
01:02:39but look what options are they
01:02:40look at the four up front there
01:02:41what are they going to do
01:02:42how are they going to be found
01:02:43they can't
01:02:44so they try to play out
01:02:46they get caught on the ball
01:02:47once again
01:02:48it's a constant theme
01:02:49throughout the game
01:02:50I mean Chelsea
01:02:51should have won by three or four
01:02:52and then out of desperation
01:02:54look what happens here
01:02:55later on in the game
01:02:56goalkeeper
01:02:57goes straight through
01:02:58to the goalkeeper again
01:02:59and then look at the state of Tottenham
01:03:01look how open they are
01:03:02I mean they really were
01:03:04awful Tottenham Hotspur
01:03:05great credit to Chelsea
01:03:07they made it very comfortable
01:03:09for themselves
01:03:10albeit just with that
01:03:11that one goal
01:03:12and getting skies
01:03:13skies it over
01:03:14but it should have been
01:03:15three or four
01:03:16and yeah it was a poor day
01:03:17for him and for Tottenham
01:03:18and actually a lot of noise
01:03:19around about
01:03:20Bentica's challenge
01:03:21on Rhys James
01:03:22what did you make of it?
01:03:23I'm happy that
01:03:25the referee
01:03:26Jared Gillett
01:03:27had a clear view of it
01:03:28and he gave a yellow card
01:03:29I'd agree
01:03:30I think it's reckless
01:03:31but not serious foul play
01:03:33so it's definitely a foul
01:03:35it's as I say
01:03:37it's reckless
01:03:38and it's a yellow card
01:03:39for me
01:03:40the referee we can see there
01:03:41clearly can see
01:03:42he's got a good view
01:03:43straight on of it
01:03:44and it's a bad tackle
01:03:46but it's not a red card
01:03:47I think
01:03:48if the referee decides
01:03:49that that's a yellow card
01:03:50I can go with him
01:03:51and then fans in the stadium
01:03:52obviously clearly could see this
01:03:54and we're going to see an angle
01:03:55of this that's been kind of
01:03:56amplified a bit on social media
01:03:58where Thomas Frank
01:03:59is encouraging
01:04:00Jed Spence
01:04:01and Mickie van der Ven
01:04:02to go and say thank you
01:04:04or you know applaud the fans
01:04:05as is the way quite often
01:04:07with matches these days
01:04:08and they've said no
01:04:09they're going straight in
01:04:10what do you make of that?
01:04:11I totally get and understand
01:04:12why the players want to get in
01:04:13as soon as possible
01:04:14they've been an embarrassment
01:04:15today
01:04:16they've been booed off the pitch
01:04:17why
01:04:18I get they just don't want to go out
01:04:19they want to get off the pitch
01:04:20and they want to go in the dressing room
01:04:21and then say the sorry's later on
01:04:23but I get it and understand it
01:04:25as much as Thomas Frank
01:04:26likes to go around
01:04:27and thank the fans
01:04:28and clap the fans
01:04:29I get the players point of view
01:04:30that they've been absolutely awful today
01:04:32and they want to get off the pitch
01:04:33as quick as possible
01:04:34actually he said it was a small issue Frank
01:04:36yeah I don't think it
01:04:37I personally don't think it's a bit
01:04:39I'm with you Alan
01:04:40I think just play better
01:04:42that's that's the main thing
01:04:43you've already played bad
01:04:44in a derby
01:04:45you want to get back in the dressing room
01:04:47you frustrated they're frustrated
01:04:48it's not that's nothing personal
01:04:49against the manager or the fans
01:04:51they just want to get inside
01:04:52ok Brighton hadn't conceded a goal
01:04:54in their last seven meetings
01:04:56with Leeds United at the Amex stadium
01:04:57going back over 13 years
01:04:59Simon Brotherton watch this one
01:05:01certainly a tricky trip for Leeds in recent times
01:05:05the last time they won away at Brighton
01:05:07was 16 years ago
01:05:08when the hosts were at the Withdean Stadium
01:05:10and both sides were in League One
01:05:12Brighton make one change from last weekend's
01:05:15defeated Old Trafford
01:05:16with Diego Gomez starting
01:05:17and Maxim Di Kaipo moving to the bench
01:05:19Danny Welbeck scored both
01:05:21in the last home game to beat Newcastle
01:05:23and has five Premier League goals already
01:05:25Leeds are unchanged
01:05:27as they look to follow up home success against West Ham
01:05:29by winning consecutive games
01:05:31for the first time this season
01:05:33Slovenian international Jakar Biol
01:05:35made his Premier League debut last time out
01:05:37he starts again today
01:05:38while USA international Brendan Aronson
01:05:41scored his first goal of the campaign
01:05:45Brighton Ovalvian with three wins so far this season
01:05:47pretty good ones though
01:05:49beating Manchester City and Newcastle here
01:05:52both by two goals to one
01:05:53and 3-1 winners away to Chelsea
01:05:55and a bit unstuck at Old Trafford last week
01:05:594-2 by Manchester United
01:06:01but now Ayari takes it away from Ampadu
01:06:03and brings the save
01:06:05from Lucas Perry
01:06:09just got away from Ampadu
01:06:11and Ayari saw the chance to get a shot in
01:06:13but never really got hold of it
01:06:15Minte
01:06:21away from Goodmanson
01:06:23lovely little play into Max Vigvar
01:06:25here's a chance
01:06:26there's a goal
01:06:27first chance of the game
01:06:29and Brighton Ovalvian are ahead
01:06:31and it's Danny Welbeck once again
01:06:33six Premier League goals already this season for Welbeck
01:06:37he scored both in the last home match
01:06:39to see off Newcastle
01:06:41he scored the first this afternoon
01:06:45Minte
01:06:47delicate touch
01:06:48Vigvar
01:06:49Welbeck
01:06:50in the right place
01:06:51to sweep it home
01:06:53and Danny Welbeck's rich vein of form
01:06:55in front of goal continues
01:06:57suddenly the clouds have appeared and the heavens have opened
01:07:07Tanaka
01:07:09this is Okafor
01:07:11Van Hecke is there first
01:07:13collected here by Welbeck
01:07:15chance to shoot
01:07:17dis-effort from Welbeck
01:07:21Brighton searching for a second goal
01:07:25Brighton with a chance to break
01:07:36and Yankuba Minte
01:07:38has got Rutter up alongside him
01:07:40if he needs it
01:07:41it's still Minte
01:07:43oh
01:07:44it's Joshua
01:07:45and Rutter stands there and looks at him as if to say
01:07:48well why didn't you pass to me
01:07:50but Yankuba Minte
01:07:51only had one thing on his mind here
01:07:53Bial picking out Calvert-Lewin
01:07:59held up by Matt Sweeper
01:08:04elected by Yankuba Minte
01:08:09Calvert-Lewin has it back
01:08:12able to get the shot in
01:08:14it wasn't far wide of the post
01:08:16at times
01:08:18Brighton's lead does look a rather precarious one
01:08:24and Hecke
01:08:29looking to
01:08:30set Yankuba Minte on his way
01:08:34teammates arriving
01:08:35Yankuba Minte
01:08:36searing burst of pace
01:08:37there's a chance of the second goal
01:08:39Diego Gomez
01:08:43who was absolutely in the right place at the right time
01:08:48it was created by Yankuba Minte
01:08:51who had a big part to play in the opening goal as well
01:08:54away from Goodmanson
01:08:56the Paraguayan international
01:08:58finding the back of the net
01:08:59in the Premier League
01:09:01to go with
01:09:03the Carabao cut goals
01:09:04he scored earlier in the season
01:09:06and
01:09:12Rutter
01:09:13will chase
01:09:14third favourite
01:09:22Rutter getting in ahead of Jaden Bogle
01:09:24and
01:09:25Welbeck in the thick of it too
01:09:26and
01:09:27Bogle's made a mistake
01:09:28it's Jorginho Rutter
01:09:29and
01:09:30still
01:09:32it's
01:09:33goal number three
01:09:34Gomes
01:09:37at the double
01:09:38just past
01:09:39the midway point
01:09:40of the second half
01:09:41it's
01:09:42hard to see a route back
01:09:43for Leeds United
01:09:44now
01:09:45two goals
01:09:46in six minutes
01:09:47or so
01:09:48in the second half here
01:09:49and
01:09:50Diego Gomes
01:09:51again
01:09:52loitering with intent
01:09:53inside
01:09:54the penalty area
01:09:55for his second of the match
01:09:56Brighton's third
01:09:57Rutter
01:09:58did a lot of the hard work here
01:10:01it's Brighton three
01:10:02Leeds United nil
01:10:03here comes
01:10:05Carioglu
01:10:06into
01:10:07Baleba
01:10:08free kick
01:10:10pressure on
01:10:13Lucas Perry's goal
01:10:14coming up
01:10:15and it comes
01:10:18Gomez on a hat-trick
01:10:22brings the save
01:10:23Yasin Ayari
01:10:24Leeds really at full stretch there to keep the ball out
01:10:28to avoid conceding a fourth
01:10:30to avoid conceding a fourth
01:10:31but they manage it
01:10:38Simas
01:10:40cracking pass
01:10:41Watson collects
01:10:42the two subs trying to combine
01:10:43Simas still keeps it alive
01:10:46Leeds United really stretched at the back
01:10:48Ayari brings an excellent save from Perry
01:10:51Baleba
01:10:55Brighton really threatening a fourth here
01:10:56and it was the two subs who've just come onto the pitch
01:10:58causing all the mayhem in the Leeds penalty area
01:11:01and the final shot beaten away
01:11:03Beaten away
01:11:12Baleba staying down
01:11:13caught in the tackle
01:11:14and Lucas Mecha now
01:11:16for Leeds looks to at least get them on the board
01:11:18saved by Verbruggen
01:11:20pressure
01:11:21pressure still on
01:11:23Stark
01:11:24good play
01:11:26and Verbruggen
01:11:27standing strong at his near post
01:11:31still Leeds have never scored a goal away at Brighton
01:11:34in the Premier League
01:11:36haven't beaten Brighton away from home for 16 years
01:11:41Yes, it's not that we have to overanalyse this game
01:11:45they were the better side today
01:11:46deserve to win
01:11:47and for that congratulations to Brighton
01:11:49its effect in the end
01:11:51it was probably 50-50 possession
01:11:52and we had 7-4 corners
01:11:54but they were way more creative
01:11:57out of their possession
01:11:58out of their corners
01:11:59and created more situations
01:12:00and were also more clinical
01:12:02and for that they deserve to win the game today
01:12:03I think overall
01:12:04it was a good performance from the start
01:12:06I think especially the first 20 minutes
01:12:09then we lost a little bit of control
01:12:11but in the second half we got it back
01:12:14we kept the clean sheet
01:12:16that was important for us
01:12:17we scored some good goals
01:12:19we created a lot of chances
01:12:20so overall I was happy
01:12:22and now it's really about getting like
01:12:24this consistency into our results
01:12:27they've got great home form
01:12:30and two goals for Diogo Gomez
01:12:32but it is the Englishman Danny Welbeck
01:12:34we are going to talk about
01:12:35because he is currently the top English player
01:12:39who is as an out and out goalscorer
01:12:42actually some of these aren't out and out goalscores
01:12:44obviously aren't centre forwards
01:12:45but in the Premier League at the moment
01:12:48he is 35 later this month
01:12:50Thomas Tuchel is about to announce another England squad
01:12:52this week
01:12:53is he a potential backup for Harry Kane?
01:12:55Oh absolutely
01:12:56because of his form
01:12:58because of his goals
01:13:00he has only been into double figures once in his career
01:13:04and that was last season
01:13:06so there is no doubt about it
01:13:08that he seems to be getting better
01:13:10I was just about to say
01:13:12the manager has probably said to him
01:13:14you stay between the 18 yard box
01:13:16you will get your goals
01:13:17there is no doubt about it
01:13:18and you keep going
01:13:19but with some of these clips
01:13:20when you see them in a minute
01:13:21about him working hard
01:13:23and the running that he is putting in
01:13:24the tracking back that he is actually doing
01:13:26this part here look
01:13:27this is him getting back into his own box
01:13:29to try and defend
01:13:30and then when all of a sudden
01:13:31they win the ball
01:13:32just have a look at him
01:13:33the way he is off
01:13:34and of course England are not exactly blessed
01:13:37with numbers in that centre forward position
01:13:39so absolutely
01:13:41he deserves it
01:13:43if he does manage to get into that
01:13:46into the England squad
01:13:47but
01:13:48again
01:13:49he helps set up the third goal
01:13:52with his work rate
01:13:53with his closing down
01:13:54and he is having a fabulous season
01:13:56he really is
01:13:57as I said
01:13:58he is getting better
01:13:59and there is no doubt
01:14:00that it is correct
01:14:01there is talk about him being in the squad
01:14:03A great professional
01:14:04people seem to really like being around him
01:14:06he has played in two World Cup squads before
01:14:08you played against him
01:14:09yeah I have played against him a few times
01:14:11he is always tough to play against
01:14:13very powerful
01:14:14strong
01:14:15good runner
01:14:16but as you said
01:14:17he just seems to be getting better
01:14:18with age
01:14:19and you know
01:14:20regarding the England squad
01:14:21I think he would be a brilliant person
01:14:23to have around the camp
01:14:24and sometimes you don't need
01:14:25you know
01:14:26a squad full of starters
01:14:27you need good personalities
01:14:28in the squad
01:14:29that are happy to not start
01:14:30and come off the bench
01:14:31and of course
01:14:32Thomas Tuchel is not bothered about the future
01:14:34he is a bother about six weeks in the World Cup
01:14:36that is all he is interested in
01:14:38ok
01:14:39no two teams had used more long throws this season
01:14:42than Crystal Palace and Brentford
01:14:44James Filden was at
01:14:45Selhurl Park
01:14:46Keith Andrews says
01:14:49long throw criticism is snobbery
01:14:51but success has always been about playing to your strengths
01:14:54and these two teams are yielding the results of that
01:14:57with their best starts point-wise in five years
01:14:59Palace played the same team for all three Premier League games in October
01:15:04but one change today with Jefferson Lerman making his second start
01:15:07Adam Wharton is still out due to illness
01:15:09Keith Andrews sticks with the same side
01:15:11that won against Liverpool last week
01:15:13only Erling Haaland has scored more than striker Igor Thiago
01:15:16who himself is one of three to have netted more than Palace's Jean-Philippe Mateta
01:15:20two of the league's leading marksmen going head-to-head here in South London
01:15:26Brentford the winners on each of the last two meetings of these two sides
01:15:28they did the double against them last season
01:15:31winning both games by two goals to one
01:15:33Saar has an opportunity to get in behind here
01:15:38Palace have five forward
01:15:39Ismaila Saar across
01:15:41and it was cut out before it reached Jeremy Pino
01:15:45Lerma
01:15:47Coyote gives it a whack
01:15:49well Crystal Palace should have done far better in that situation
01:15:53so the error by Vandenberg
01:15:55Palace suddenly had five forward here
01:15:57it was a poor choice
01:15:59with Collins there to intercept
01:16:02much-needed win for Oliver Glasner
01:16:04on Wednesday
01:16:053-0 winners at Liverpool
01:16:06that after a run of three defeats in four in all competitions
01:16:11punches off the shins there of Wattara, Kamada, Mateta in between the lines
01:16:16Pino
01:16:18Brentford have a man down
01:16:21Munoz coming in, so too Mateta
01:16:25Holmesdale then claiming handball but the referee Peter Banks doesn't even react
01:16:29let's have another look
01:16:31might have been in a raised position there by Jamajuk but no further action from the VAR
01:16:36certainly a very open game here at Selhurst Park but low on clear-cut chances
01:16:43that might be about to change because here's Mitchell
01:16:45Kamada
01:16:46Daichi Kamada
01:16:49just curling away from goal
01:16:52hasn't scored yet in the Premier League for Crystal Palace
01:16:56hasn't scored now for over a year
01:16:58always going away from the target
01:17:01Lerma
01:17:05meeting tidy from Panis
01:17:07who have Geyi coming forward
01:17:09toppled by Damska
01:17:15two arms up from Spain international
01:17:17Yenemi Pino
01:17:20Pino high
01:17:21rodded in towards Mateta
01:17:23well as they say around these parts
01:17:30there ain't no striker better than Jean-Philippe Mateta
01:17:33and exactly the kind of service he wanted there
01:17:38a hat trick here against Bournemouth in his last home league game
01:17:41and he's off and running this afternoon
01:17:44what a header that was
01:17:46looping beyond Kelleher
01:17:49swivelled, spun
01:17:50and bounced it off the top of his head
01:17:53into that far corner
01:17:55you won't see a better header this weekend
01:18:00Munoz
01:18:06to Saar
01:18:09and that wasn't far away
01:18:12nearly another there for Crystal Palace
01:18:15drop for Saar
01:18:17nice take on the chest
01:18:18just couldn't squeeze it the other side of the post
01:18:26Alice trying the little triangle but
01:18:29this time they might go a little longer
01:18:35Jefferson Lerma with the long throw
01:18:37in it goes
01:18:38off the head of Collins
01:18:39and in
01:18:4020-25-26
01:18:41the season of the long throw
01:18:46and Brentford who've been the masters of them for such a long time now
01:18:52undone by one defensively
01:18:54Lerma put plenty of height on it
01:18:58and there was the tiniest of flicks backwards off the head of Nathan Collins
01:19:01and Collins
01:19:03and Collins a scorer in the week at Blundell Park against Grimsby
01:19:07but he's put one into his own net here
01:19:12all given away by Collins who's having a bit of a nightmare around there now
01:19:16and Saar in for three
01:19:18off the post
01:19:20and the tatter can't get there in time
01:19:22Brentford at sixes and sevens defensively
01:19:24well Collins there so relaxed on the ball
01:19:28Saar pinched it off it
01:19:31back it came off the upright
01:19:33it's dark
01:19:35it's gloomy
01:19:36it's South London
01:19:37and Crystal Palace
01:19:38enjoying their afternoon now
01:19:39two goals to the good
01:19:43Brentford have a throw
01:19:45after Palace scored from their own throw
01:19:46a couple of minutes ago
01:19:48it's Brentford's turn here to have a go
01:19:50but Coyote goes short instead
01:19:52Yarmouyuk
01:19:54Henderson delivers
01:19:56Ayer round the back
01:19:58that is Brentford's first shot on target
01:20:00with 57 and a half minutes gone
01:20:08Ayer going in strongly
01:20:10fair challenge
01:20:13Nelson
01:20:15Lewis Potter
01:20:17the two subs combining
01:20:19Reece Nelson
01:20:20looking to bend one
01:20:21great save by Henderson
01:20:24and that's as much
01:20:25as the Palace goalkeeper has had to do this afternoon
01:20:29Lewis Potter
01:20:30just cushioning it back there to Nelson
01:20:32whose effort wasn't quite going in the corner
01:20:35a disappointing afternoon for Keith Andrews' side
01:20:38have never really been in it
01:20:41the superior side in this one
01:20:42top win
01:20:44I think we are really happy
01:20:46because we knew that it was going to be a hard game
01:20:49but I think we showed that we are also good in set pieces
01:20:52we spoke about that before
01:20:54and I think it's a really good three-point today
01:20:56Naturally players aren't robots
01:20:58players will make mistakes
01:21:00I think there was elements of the first half
01:21:02that I wasn't bowled over with
01:21:04some scrappy bits where I thought we could have done a little bit better
01:21:06we could have secured possession better than we had
01:21:08but I think the players overall
01:21:10over the last few weeks have been outstanding
01:21:12that's our second half
01:21:14really good character
01:21:15tried to break them down
01:21:16just couldn't quite find that little bit of magic
01:21:17little bit of quality
01:21:19and they've seen the game out
01:21:21Great win, very important win
01:21:23and the game was exactly how we expected it
01:21:25and I think I spoke about it before the game
01:21:27it could be a set play battle
01:21:29and we were really pleased that we could win this set play battle
01:21:33I told Geoff Lerma three or four days ago
01:21:36that he would start against Brentford
01:21:38because we would need him especially in set plays
01:21:40and he won the header on the far post
01:21:41and great goal
01:21:43and the other second we were a little bit lucky with the own goal
01:21:45but on the other side we caused chaos in their box
01:21:47and then we got the reward today
01:21:49Yeah, Oliver Glasner rightly quite chuffed there
01:21:51that this set piece battle he'd foreseen
01:21:53his assistants had foreseen, you know, they edged it
01:21:55Yeah, and he called it obviously
01:21:57because he brought Geofferson Lerma into the team
01:21:59this is Coyote's long throw that's caused so much damage all season
01:22:03and Lerma gets contact, first contact with that one
01:22:06it's Coyote again with the long throw
01:22:08Crystal Palace and Richards deal with it
01:22:10and win the second ball
01:22:12Now this is attacking, this is a great leap from that man again
01:22:14Lerma again
01:22:16and what a goal this is from Mateta
01:22:18because that's a good leap
01:22:20but he's still got a lot to do on that Mateta
01:22:21he guides it into the far corner
01:22:23really good goal
01:22:25another good goal for him and a great season
01:22:26this is Jefferson Lerma's long throw in
01:22:29which then Brentford ironically don't deal with very well
01:22:32and Nathan Collins ends up getting contact on it
01:22:35but he's facing his own goal
01:22:37so that man Oliver Glasner is doing a great job this season
01:22:40and he anticipated it being a battle of set pieces
01:22:44and it was and he got the decision right
01:22:46What a week for Crystal Palace
01:22:48and beating 11 at home as well
01:22:50so yeah, great week for them
01:22:51knocking Liverpool of course out of the League Cup
01:22:54as you rightly say
01:22:56OK, let's have a quick look at the table then shall we
01:22:59Arsenal are now seven points clear at the top
01:23:02after yet another victory without conceding
01:23:04victory for Liverpool helps Arna Slott's side rise to third
01:23:07Wolves already eight points from safety
01:23:10and have become the first side in top flight history
01:23:13to fail to win any of their first ten matches in excessive seasons
01:23:16Nottingham Forest ended their run of four straight defeats without scoring
01:23:20but of four points adrift of Burnley in 17th
01:23:22Thank you so much for your company today Ashley and Alan
01:23:26Liverpool get back to winning ways
01:23:29Slot stops the rot
01:23:31and that's your lot
01:23:33Goodnight
01:23:34Yeah
01:23:36Yeah
01:23:46Yeah
01:23:47Yeah
01:23:49Yeah
01:23:52Yeah
01:23:53Yeah
