00:10:44They scored the second goal and after it was more difficult.

00:10:47But how we compete, how we played overall, building the team like we are.

00:10:55We had to accept this defeat and try to keep going and looking forward for the next matches.

00:11:02So Liverpool back to winning ways, Ashley.

00:11:05But even Arna Slott had talked of late about the blueprint to beat his team.

00:11:10But Villa went away from that today.

00:11:12Yeah, like recent weeks, Liverpool have showed a vulnerability in dealing with long balls straight down the middle.

00:11:18And as you said, Arna Slott has mentioned that in recent weeks.

00:11:21But we know Unai Emery is very, you know, tactically he's normally sound.

00:11:25But I was confused about the way he set his team up today with the tactics that they were playing,

00:11:30especially from the goalkeeper.

00:11:32They had numerous chances to play the ball into the position we were just talking about

00:11:36where Liverpool have struggled.

00:11:37But they seemed obsessed with playing the short pass.

00:11:40And Liverpool were very front-footed today.

00:11:43And this is early on in the game.

00:11:45They get away with that one.

00:11:46Here's another chance to play the ball.

00:11:48But long because it's Oli Watkins who's good at holding the ball up.

00:11:51That's not long enough.

00:11:53Robertson wins it.

00:11:55Ends up with a chance again.

00:11:56They get away with it again.

00:11:57And it was every single time with Martinez.

00:12:00Paul Torres can play the same ball from this position.

00:12:04He turns that down.

00:12:05They want to build up through midfield.

00:12:08But it's slow.

00:12:10It's not sharp enough.

00:12:12Now they've got themselves into trouble again.

00:12:14So they've had lots and lots of warnings.

00:12:20If you've got Oli Watkins up front, hit him or put it in behind him,

00:12:23make the defenders run back to their own goal and deal with it.

00:12:26This is what I mean about the sloppy play.

00:12:28So not only have they not gone long, they're passing it.

00:12:31And it's so inaccurate and sloppy.

00:12:33And Mo Salah will never score an easier goal than that in his career.

00:12:38So it was just confusing really.

00:12:40We've got the graph up here, the stats.

00:12:42And they've played the fewest long balls against Liverpool this season.

00:12:45And when it's so obvious that they've been vulnerable to that,

00:12:49it was confusing that Unai Emery or the Aston Villa players

00:12:52decided to play short out from the back.

00:12:54I should say as well that was Mo Salah's 250th goal,

00:12:56person third on the all-time list for Liverpool.

00:12:58Generally, Ashley said they're front-footed.

00:13:00They were more physical, more combative and more energy.

00:13:03Definitely.

00:13:04Liverpool, it wasn't perfect but it was a lot better.

00:13:07And they just had to win the game tonight.

00:13:09But I thought the Gravenberg back in midfield gave them a bit more energy,

00:13:14a bit more stability and certainly a bit more organisation.

00:13:17And there's no doubt they deserved to win the game.

00:13:19I thought they played well.

00:13:21They pressed there, they win the ball back there.

00:13:24And you can see that they're all in really good positions,

00:13:27ready to hit Aston Villa again.

00:13:29And that's what they did.

00:13:32They said they're on a slot, they got the little bit of luck

00:13:35that perhaps they haven't had it with a little deflection.

00:13:37But you can see from that angle there, the way they set up,

00:13:40they know exactly what they want Aston Villa to do

00:13:43and they're forcing them to do that.

00:13:44And we're really happy that they did that because, as I said,

00:13:46they were ready for them and they were organised.

00:13:49This wasn't happening last week.

00:13:53You've seen the performance.

00:13:55And again, because of what the team that they put out with midweek,

00:13:57they somehow just had to win the game today.

00:13:59They've got to get the belief back, a little bit of confidence back

00:14:02and that will do them the world of good.

00:14:04It was the right result, it's what they needed.

00:14:06And as I said, there's the stats there.

00:14:11where they were criticised for last weekend for not doing.

00:14:14This weekend, this game, it was back to something

00:14:17that we've been used to with this Liverpool team.

01:21:10over the last few weeks have been outstanding

01:21:16just couldn't quite find that little bit of magic
