00:02:11Probably about 50 miles further out in the desert

00:02:13I have a place out there

00:02:15She didn't go there that much

00:02:16I would rather be a little bit further removed from civilization

00:02:20But this is handy

00:02:21And handy enough to go back and forth to town

00:02:23But if you're coming here from Florida

00:02:26Kevin Nash came here a long time ago

00:02:28And he goes man why in the hell are you here?

00:02:30He didn't really get it

00:02:31So it's beautiful outside and I love Nevada

00:02:34I don't know there's mountains over here

00:02:35With snow on it

00:02:36I mean this is beautiful

00:02:37You can do a lot of things here man

00:02:39Hunting, skiing, fishing

00:02:41And people out here are very active in the outdoors

00:02:44And kind of suits my taste as well

00:02:46People will be surprised that the Texas rattlesnake lives in Nevada

00:02:49God dang, you know when I was

00:02:50A lot of people still think I live in Texas

00:02:52And that's where I was born and raised

00:02:54And I'll always love Texas

00:02:56But at this point in my life

00:02:57Probably moving forward

00:02:58You know, Nevada is my home

00:03:00And with so much public land to roam around on

00:03:03And it's just been amazing hunting

00:03:06And I started racing anywhere you

00:03:09I just left this past weekend on one of my buggies

00:03:13Side by sides and drove a hundred miles

00:03:15So you know, it's hard to do that in another state

00:03:18I thought I might see some cats as we were walking in here

00:03:21The cats are out in the horse barn

00:03:22Solid ass cats

00:03:23Yeah, solid ass cats

00:03:25They're out roaming around

00:03:26Macho is prowling by the pond

00:03:28He's a hunter

00:03:29And Poncho will pretty much stay by the horse barn

00:03:32He has really befriended one of my wife's horses

00:03:35And so he'll jump on her back

00:03:37And they'll hang out together and nuzzle each other

00:03:39The solid ass cats are alive and well

00:03:42What makes a cat a solid ass cat?

00:03:45I don't know, I just came up with that

00:03:48And it's turned into a thing

00:03:51And people love to see those cats on Instagram

00:03:53So, you know, I was out there shoveling horse shit

00:03:56I think it was two years ago around Christmas

00:03:58And I just addressed the camera on my iPhone

00:04:02I said, hey man, this is Steven Poncho

00:04:04You know, wishing everybody a Merry Christmas

00:04:06And I didn't expect anything of it

00:04:08And just in subsequent posts

00:04:09Not trying to make it a thing

00:04:11It turned into a thing

00:04:12So it is what it is

00:04:13Well, I hope to meet the solid ass cats before we leave here

00:04:16When we leave

00:04:17You just gotta be real chill when you walk up to them

00:04:19Because they know strangers

00:04:21If it's a different sounding vehicle

00:04:23They know that it's not one of our vehicles

00:04:25And so Poncho is pretty leery

00:04:27And he watches out for Moncho

00:04:29So they're quite the duo

00:04:31And I hope to be able to introduce you to them

00:04:35What keeps you busy these days?

00:04:37Man, a lot of things

00:04:38I started racing side by sides

00:04:41UTVs

00:04:43About three years ago

00:04:45We were filming a show

00:04:46The show turned out badly

00:04:49But in the process

00:04:50I got into the racing community

00:04:53And did a poker run

00:04:55And my producer calls me

00:04:57And there was about six foot of snow back then

00:05:00And when the network greenlit the show

00:05:02We didn't even shoot a pilot

00:05:04And all of a sudden we just went to camera

00:05:06And so my wife and I are thinking

00:05:08Because we're just getting pounded with snow

00:05:09Six feet of snow in the valley

00:05:11Where I live is very uncommon

00:05:13And very hard to deal with

00:05:14And they said

00:05:15No, we're ready to start shooting right now

00:05:17So we started filming that

00:05:18And we got our asses handed to us for months

00:05:21And then in the process

00:05:23My producer says

00:05:24Hey, do you want to do a poker run?

00:05:25I don't play cards

00:05:27So I said, man, what is a poker run?

00:05:29And it's basically a poker run

00:05:31Is when you're running a course

00:05:32An outdoor desert racing course

00:05:34It might be

00:05:35The course might be 45 miles a loop

00:05:38Or might be 80 miles of a loop

00:05:40And you have a GPS device in your car

00:05:42So you ride the course to pre-run it

00:05:45To mark your dangers

00:05:46To know the course

00:05:47And then on race day

00:05:48The next day

00:05:49That's when you take off

00:05:50And do your thing

00:05:51So we just did the pre-run

00:05:53And so a few months later

00:05:55The guys called me up

00:05:56That I did the pre-run with

00:05:57And they said

00:05:58Hey, do you really want to start racing?

00:06:00And I thought about it for a second

00:06:02I said, man, yeah, I would

00:06:03And that's how I started

00:06:04And those guys were

00:06:05Those guys were really good

00:06:07And this year I split off on my own

00:06:09So we're currently building a new car

00:06:12I work with Kawasaki

00:06:13So we're building a supercharged car

00:06:14That's the H2

00:06:16250 horsepower

00:06:17We'll be going a lot faster this year

00:06:19We're building this

00:06:20The guy that's building this

00:06:21Is on the other side of Sacramento

00:06:23So I spent a lot of time

00:06:24Going back and forth

00:06:25Working on that

00:06:26I just celebrated

00:06:2710 years of being in business

00:06:28With El Segundo Brewing Company

00:06:30And being in the beer business

00:06:32And man, there's a lot of craft beer places

00:06:35That are kind of

00:06:36Falling by the wayside

00:06:37And we're still running strong

00:06:39So a 10 year anniversary with Kawasaki

00:06:41So that kind of stuff

00:06:43And a few things that I don't talk about

00:06:44On the side

00:06:45Keep me busy

00:06:46And helping my wife

00:06:48Run this place

00:06:49And taking care of the animals

00:06:50Broken Skull beer

00:06:51Was the only beer

00:06:52You were drinking in the ring, right?

00:06:53Well, you know, I drank every beer

00:06:55That there ever was

00:06:56You know, coming up

00:06:57You didn't have a preference?

00:06:58Oh, well, you know

00:06:59Well, back in the day

00:07:00You know, I remember

00:07:01We pitched Coors Light

00:07:02Many years ago

00:07:03When I was really on fire

00:07:05And I was way over the top

00:07:07And way too aggressive

00:07:08And they wouldn't touch me

00:07:09With a 10-foot pole

00:07:10And then, you know

00:07:12We were about to come out

00:07:13With Stone Cold beer

00:07:14Years ago

00:07:16And we were just about

00:07:17To go to packaging

00:07:18And that was

00:07:19About that time

00:07:20Where, you know

00:07:21Vince wanted me to

00:07:22Do the favor for Brock

00:07:23And I said, man

00:07:25F you

00:07:27You know

00:07:28Because it wasn't business

00:07:29I would

00:07:30Man, that was one of the things

00:07:31I really wish

00:07:32I would have got to do

00:07:33Was work with Brock Lesnar

00:07:34But it was just

00:07:35A terrible business decision

00:07:36To beat me

00:07:37On a Monday Night Raw

00:07:39Match

00:07:40No advertisement

00:07:41No pre-build

00:07:42Or anything like that

00:07:44That was a money match

00:07:45At a major pay-per-view

00:07:47So anyway

00:07:48When I took my ball

00:07:51And I hate to talk about

00:07:52Some of this old stuff

00:07:53But that's when

00:07:57And then all these years

00:07:58Removed to get into

00:07:59The beer business on my own

00:08:01It's been fun

00:08:02And it keeps me busy

00:08:08I can just slap my name on

00:08:13I'm in it

00:08:14I help with

00:08:15The hop selection

00:08:17And everything else

00:08:18So I love it

00:08:19You don't get

00:08:20Rich in the beer business

00:08:22With just a couple

00:08:23Beers competing

00:08:24Against all the majors

00:08:25But I'm known

00:08:27I'm known for drinking beer

00:08:28And I still drink beer

00:08:29And I'm proud of

00:08:30The beer that we've created

00:08:31I like that you have now

00:08:33Crushed that rumor

00:08:34There's this rumor online

00:08:35That you don't drink beer anymore

00:08:36Yes

00:08:37I still drink beer

00:08:38But just

00:08:39You know

00:08:40It's kinda like

00:08:41The old timers

00:08:42Used to come up to you

00:08:43In the dressing room

00:08:44When you first start breaking

00:08:45Into business

00:08:46Kids you gotta pick your spots

00:08:48You don't take all those bumps

00:08:50These days you don't need

00:08:51All those hangovers

00:09:01When I'll have a couple IPAs

00:09:33At least once a year

00:09:34Or every other year

00:09:35What's the most amount of beer

00:09:37That you ever drank in the ring

00:09:39It was over in Japan

00:09:41And I've talked about this before

00:09:42Cause the Dudleys were there

00:09:44And Stacey Keebler was there

00:09:45And there's a whole bunch of people

00:09:46That were in the ring

00:09:47And so I just started

00:09:48Tossing out beers

00:09:49But I think we went over a hundred

00:09:51And this is an Andre story

00:09:53But I believe there was

00:09:54A hundred beers involved in that

00:09:55Now did they all get drank

00:09:57Into completion?

00:09:58Sure

00:09:59It was spilled everywhere

00:10:00And thrown here, there, and wherever

00:10:02But I think that was

00:10:04About the biggest one ever

00:10:06Over in Japan

00:10:07And like

00:10:08I used to like get Goldberg

00:10:10In the ring

00:10:11And toss him beers

00:10:12On a few occasions

00:10:13That we did that

00:10:14Cause Bill don't drink

00:10:15He'll drink a beer or two

00:10:16But he doesn't really drink

00:10:17And so I'd keep force feeding him beers

00:10:19Cause if you're in the ring

00:10:20With Stone Cold

00:10:21You gotta drink the beer

00:10:22And I'd try to get him

00:10:23As hammered as I could

00:10:24Before he left the ring

00:10:25It's kind of an ongoing rib

00:10:26Between me and Bill

00:10:27I still keep up with him

00:10:28Pretty closely

00:10:29Did you ever feel a buzz

00:10:30After drinking those beers

00:10:31In the ring?

00:10:32Yeah man, because

00:10:33You're going into the ring

00:10:39You're back eating sandwiches

00:10:42Drinking on an empty stomach

00:10:44When you're guzzling

00:10:45That many beers

00:10:46Whatever goes on you

00:10:47The rest is going in you

00:10:48So yeah, by the time

00:10:49You go through

00:10:5012, 18 back

00:10:51And just dumping them

00:10:52Down your gullet

00:10:53You've absorbed a lot of them

00:10:54So yeah, there were

00:10:55You know, many, many, many occasions

00:10:57Where I left out of there

00:10:59And hit the road

00:11:00I had a pretty good buzz going on

00:11:01How did drinking beer

00:11:03Even become part of your celebration?

00:11:04I don't know

00:11:05Someone else asked me that

00:11:06A while back

00:11:07And Sandman was way before me

00:11:10So I always give Sandman credit

00:11:11And then we evolved it

00:11:12Somehow, some way

00:11:13In a fashion that I don't think

00:11:17And I think he bashed him over

00:11:19His was part of his entrance more

00:11:21Yeah, but anyway

00:11:22But I always throw respect to Sandman

00:11:25Because I wasn't trying to rip him off

00:11:27But we weren't even thinking that

00:11:29When we started doing it

00:11:30And I don't even know how it came to be

00:11:32If it was something where I took

00:11:34A can from somebody in the audience

00:11:36And then it turned into a thing

00:11:38As we were talking on the phone

00:13:01And they didn't send a ring down for me to work out

00:13:04And to, you know, get any kind of timing

00:13:07Or hit the ropes

00:13:08I remember going down there

00:13:10And I was running the ropes

00:13:11And, you know, taking a couple flat back bumps

00:13:13Before we got into the ring

00:13:15But you can't get your timing

00:13:17Or any kind of anything back

00:13:19Or much less your wind

00:13:22And I was over here in my gym

00:13:23Doing all kinds of cardio

00:13:24Because, you know, when that glass breaks

00:13:26Or whoever's music hits

00:13:28And you start walking to the ring

00:13:29Man, just the buzz of the crowd

00:13:32I've seen people blow up walking to the ring

00:13:34Because that's just what a crowd can do to you

00:13:37And so just going there with Kevin Owens

00:13:40And trying to have that match with him

00:13:41Where we didn't bill it

00:13:43Didn't bill it as a match

00:13:44But, you know, it was going to be a match

00:13:46So to speak

00:13:47And I remember telling Kevin

00:13:50And I was knocking the shit out of him

00:13:53I was patating him so bad

00:13:54Because I ain't thrown a punch in 19 years

00:13:56Yeah

00:13:57And he never threw a receipt

00:13:59And I just, I told him

00:14:01Because we keep in touch with each other

00:14:03Every now and then

00:14:04And I just wish that he could have been in the ring with me

00:14:08When I was really going, you know, full speed

00:14:11And had my timing

00:14:12Because he's a great worker

00:14:13And I really like him a lot

00:14:15I wish he would have got a chance to experience me

00:14:17When I was in my prime

00:14:18Because that would have been a great contest

00:14:20But I could still, I could still do it

00:14:22And I'm not advocating for nothing

00:14:51And then finally, after everybody kept pointing it out to me

00:14:54I started, it was really, I could feel it

00:14:57That's why I was limping

00:14:58And then it just started getting really bad

00:15:01Because of all the arthritis in there

00:15:03And finally, last year I had it replaced

00:15:05And, you know, I was thinking, why didn't I do this?

00:15:08You know, to get out of so much pain

00:15:11And I've always wondered what arthritis felt like

00:15:14Man, I found out firsthand

00:15:15And it's chronically over time

00:15:18Years and years and years of it

00:15:20It'll change your personality

00:15:21And it just puts you in a state of mind

00:15:23Where you just want some relief

00:15:24So to get that relief

00:15:26And come out on the other side

00:15:28And still be active

00:15:30I don't really squat anymore

00:15:31I do, you know, like Hindu squats

00:15:33Free squats

00:15:34Like guys would do in their hotel room

00:15:36And I always had good legs

00:15:39So I'll do that to maintain them

00:15:41But anyway, still trying to keep in shape

00:15:44You gotta keep in shape

00:15:45Because first of all, it is who I am

00:15:48I started working out when I was in fifth grade

00:15:51And we were underneath the stadium in Edna, Texas

00:15:55Where I grew up

00:15:56And my brother was two years older than me

00:15:58And in junior high

00:15:59That's when you start football in Texas

00:16:01The seventh and eighth graders were in there training

00:16:03And I was over leaning against the wall

00:16:05Because I was in fifth grade

00:16:06I was too young

00:16:07And there was a coach

00:16:08His name was Coach Harper

00:16:09He goes, hey, who's that kid over there?

00:16:12My brother Scott said, that's my brother Steve

00:16:14Why is he here?

00:16:16Well, he's too young to play football

00:16:17He looked at me

00:16:19Instead of kicking me out of the stadium

00:16:21He goes, you want to lift weights?

00:16:23I said, yes, sir

00:16:24So I started training

00:16:26Wow

00:16:27At fifth grade

00:16:28Because Coach Harper let me in

00:16:29Rather than kicking me out

00:16:30So, you know, I've worked out my whole life

00:16:32And I'll continue to work out until I'm not alive

00:16:35Because you got to

00:16:36And when you feel like

00:16:37First of all, it's who I am

00:16:38Then as you were Stone Cold Steve Austin

00:16:40You just don't want to turn into a tub of shit

00:16:43Because, you know, the people remember you of how you were

00:16:46Yes, yeah

00:16:47So that's part of it

00:16:50And I was talking with Undertaker a few WrestleManias ago

00:16:53And we were by the ring

00:16:54And we were like, God dang, man

00:16:56It seems like it just passed by so fast

00:17:01And here we are now

00:17:02The Grizzle Veterans

00:17:04And we were talking about workouts and stuff like that

00:17:07And Taker said this

00:17:09He goes, motion is lotion

00:17:11And I remember that

00:17:13So I always stay active

00:17:15Why was WrestleMania 38 the right time to have another match?

00:17:18And why was Kevin Owens the right opponent?

00:17:20It was in Dallas, Texas

00:17:22Vince flew down here

00:17:24And we had a conversation

00:17:26And I thought about it for a minute

00:17:28And I love Kevin Owens

00:17:30And he's just

00:17:32I think from a safety standpoint

00:17:35They picked Kevin

00:17:37And when they threw out just a couple of names

00:17:40Kevin was the guy

00:17:41Is it because he was also doing the stunner?

00:17:43Like there's a bit of a tie in there?

00:21:00And I think Rock knew

00:21:02And then we had that little incident the night before

00:21:05But yeah, that was going to be my last match

00:21:07And it was until it wasn't

00:21:09And the incident the night before

00:21:10You went to the hospital, right?

00:21:11Yeah

00:21:12Yeah, it was just a thing where

00:21:14Man, I was running hard

00:21:16And dehydrated and drinking a lot of caffeine

00:21:20And I remember my legs were kind of shaking

00:21:23At the gym that day

00:21:24And it was just kind of a precursor

00:21:26For what was to come

00:21:28And I was working out with Kevin Nash

00:21:29And we were sitting there doing cardio

00:21:30And talking on the recumbent bikes

00:21:33And then when I got into the hotel

00:21:36I think it was at Grand Hyatt

00:21:37And I was up on like the top

00:21:39One of the top floors

00:21:41And God dang my heart just started beating out of my chest

00:22:26And so, anyway, doctor never really cleared me

00:22:31And went to the ring the next day

00:22:33And, you know, put over the rock

00:22:34And took care of business

00:22:36Which could have done

00:22:37I think the match is okay

00:22:38Match is okay

00:22:40But, you know, that was just a product of

00:22:43Running too hard, too fast, too long

00:22:45Were you ready to say goodbye to wrestling

00:22:47At that point in time?

00:22:48Well, it was

00:22:49I was having some neurological issues

00:22:51You know, because of, you know

00:22:53Had fusion a couple years before

00:22:56I got back in

00:22:57Got back on top

00:22:58And just neurologically

00:23:01I wasn't all there

00:23:02And so, I just decided at that time

00:23:05And talking to Vince

00:23:06That it was time to pull the plug

00:23:08And do something else

00:23:09Or right off into the sunset

00:23:11And not risk, you know, damage

00:23:13And damaging myself any further

00:23:15From, you know

00:23:17It's hard to change your style

00:23:19Because I was more of

00:23:21Like a scientific wrestler, if you will

00:23:24Or I was trying to emulate Ric Flair

00:23:26You know, and no one's ever going to be Ric Flair

00:23:28Because he's the GOAT for me

00:23:30And, you know

00:23:32But once I got dropped on my head

00:23:34You know, I had to change my style

00:23:35And when I turned into more of a brawler

00:23:37You know, that worked for the Stone Cold Steve Austin persona

00:23:40So, you know, a tragedy or a mishap turned into a bonus

00:23:44As far as developing that character

00:23:47But, I don't know

00:23:50What more was there for you to accomplish though at that point?

00:23:52I feel like you had done it all

00:25:52Cause I didn't really have a gimmick at the time

00:25:57But when you do

00:25:58You'll stay over

00:26:03And so, that ends up being what happened

00:26:06I think it was just a culmination of things building

00:26:26And I had nowhere to go with it

00:26:38We started going somewhere in time
