00:00Can Donald Trump share the Nobel Peace Prize with Machado?

00:08Donald Trump has made no secret of his desire to receive the Nobel Peace Prize,

00:13which was handed to Venezuela's opposition leader, Maria Machado,

00:16for her work promoting the democratic rights of Venezuelans.

00:20As soon as I learned that we had been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize,

00:25I'm dedicated to President Trump because I believe at that point that he deserved it.

00:30Trump thanked Machado, but when the United States captured Venezuela's President Nicolas Maduro

00:35on the 3rd of January, he did not back her as a future leader.

00:39I think it would be very tough for her to be the leader if she doesn't have the support within

00:43or the respect within the country.

00:45On her side, Machado praised Trump for Maduro's capture,

00:48announcing her desire to share the Nobel Peace Prize with him.

00:52Trump has qualified this as a great honor.

00:54I certainly would love to be able to personally tell him that we believe that the Venezuelan

01:02people, because this is a surprise of the Venezuelan people,

01:05certainly want to give it to him and share it with them.

01:08Trump claims to have ended eight wars since taking office in January 2025,

01:13a statement contradicted by experts and evidence.

01:16In reality, once the Nobel Prize is announced, the decision is final.

01:20It cannot be revoked, shared or transferred afterwards,

01:23but it can be shared by up to three individuals when initially awarded,

01:27while the Peace Prize can be given to an organization.

01:30Machado is set to meet with Trump in mid-January.

01:33Journalists asked the U.S. president if Machado's willingness to share the Nobel Peace Prize

01:37could influence her position in Venezuela's future government.

01:41He indicated it could, but again, in practice, this is not possible.
